2. DesigningYour PCI Adapter

3. Installation
3.1 Install YourPCIAdapter
OpenyourPCcaseandlocateanavailablePCIonthemotherboard.
SlidePCI AdapterintothePCI slot. Makesurethatall ofitspinsaretouchingtheslot'scontacts.
Youmayhavetoapplyabit ofpressuretoslidePCI Adapterallthewayin. afterit isfirmlyinplace,
secureitsfasteningtabtoyourPC'schassiswithamountingscrew. ThencloseyourPC.
AttachtheexternalantennastoPCI Adapter'santennaport.
PoweronthePC.
Note:Select Cancel when "FoundNewHardware windowappears.
3.2 Install DriverandUtility
NOTE:Snap-shotscreensofthefollowinginstallation procedurearebasedon Windows XP.
Installationprocedureswillbesimilarforotherwindowsoperatingsystems.
1.InsertInstallationCDtoyourCD-ROMdrive. And click DriverInstallation. Thewizardwillinstall
all necessaryfilestoyourcomputerautomatically.
2.Click Next toaccepttheAgreement.Orclick Cancel tocanceltheinstallation.

4.SelectRalinkConfigurationToolorMicrosoftZeroConfiguration ToolthenclickNext.
a. It#srecommendedtoselectRalinkConfigurationTool, whichprovidesfullyaccesstoall functionof
PCI Adapter.
b.If youprefertousethewirelessconfiguration toolprovidedby Windows XP orVista, pleaseselect
MicrosoftZeroConfigurationTool.

4. UtilityConfigure
4.1 WZC
4.1.1 Ralink Wireless Utility(RaUI)orWindowsZeroConfiguration(WZC)
WindowsXPincludesawireless configurationutilitynamed"Windows Zeroconfiguration"(WZC)
whichprovidesbasicconfiguration functionstotheRalinkWireless NIC. Ralink'sutility(RaUI)
additionallyprovidesWPAfunctionality.Tomakeiteasierfortheusertoselectthecorrectutility.RaUI
will letusersmakeaselectionwhenit firstrunsafterwindowsXPboots.
Double-clickingtheiconwill bringuptheselectionwindowand allowtheusermakeaselection.
RaUIcanco-existwithWZC.Whencoexisting withWZC, RaUIonlyprovidesmonitoringfunctions,
suchassurveyingthelinkstatus,networkstatus,statisticcounters, advancedfeaturestatus,WMM
statusandWPS status.Itwon'tinterferewithWZC'sconfiguration orprofilefunctions.Itisshownas
Figure1-2.
If "UseRaConfigasConfiguration utility"isselected,pleasejumptoSection2onrunning RaUI.
If "UseZeroConfigurationasConfigurationutility"isselected,pleasecontinue.
Wewill explainthedifference betweenRaUIandWZC.Figure1-3showstheRaUIstatuswhenWZC

WhenstartingRaUI, thesystemwill connecttotheAPwithbestsignalstrengthwithoutsettinga
profileormatching aprofilesetting.Whenstarting RaUI, itwill issueascancommandtoawireless
NIC.Aftertwoseconds,theAPlistwill beupdatedwiththeresultsofaBSS listscan.TheAPlist
includesmostusedfields,suchasSSID, networktype, channelused,wirelessmode, securitystatusand
