Introduction
MSIMP54G5, theWireless11gminiPCICard, isa TypeIIIB
card,whichcanbeusedtointegratewithsuchsystemsas
notebook,mini-bareboneandportablePC. WithMSIMP54G5
embeddedinside, asystemcouldprovideuserswiththeability
and flexibilitytoconnect uptoInternetwirelesslyvia 802.11g
withspeed up to54Mbps.
MSIMP54G5istaking advantageof leadingtechnologiesfrom
Ralink. It addresses WLAN(Wireless LocalAreaNetwork) mar-
ketsby providing truesimultaneousconnectivitywhiledeploy-
ingIEEE 802.11g.Alongwiththissolution, asysteminstalled in
asinglecardisabletooffercapabilityofWiFimode.It will
benefit systemvendorsinminiaturization of systemdimension
and BOMcost reduction,as well asalsomake usershappywith
the all-in-onefunctionality.

InfrastructureMode: The differencebetween Infrastructure
networkand Ad-hocnetworkisthat theformeroneincludesan
Access Point. InanInfrastructurenetwork, theAccessPointcan
manage thebandwidthtomaximizebandwidthutilization.Addi-
tionally,the AccessPointenablesusers onawireless LANto
access anexistingwirednetwork, allowing wireless users totake
advantage ofthewired networksresources,suchasInternet,
email, filetransfer, andprinter sharing. Thescaleandrange of the

HardwareInstallation
1. Locatethe MiniPCIslotonthe mainboard.Placeyour
MP54G5overthe MiniPCIslot(at an angleof30
degrees).Then,gentlyinsertit intothe slotuntilthe
goldenfinger ofthe cardgetsfullyinserted.
2. Press downthecard,andtheretainingclips(ontwo
sidesoftheslot) willlockontothenotchesof the card.
3. Connect theattenna’scabletotheconnector onthecard.
The followingdiagramsprovideyouabasicinstallationfor your
MP54G5.Theinstructionbelowissuitablefor most computers
withMiniPCIslot. FormoreinformationabouttheMiniPCI
module, pleaserefertoyourcomputer’smanual.

SoftwareInstallation
Thischapterdescribestheprocedures ofinstallingthedriver
andutility. Followtheinstruction stepbysteptofinishthe
installation.IfyouuseWindows 98SE/ME,please prepare
theWindows Setup CDathandbeforeinstallingthedriver;
becausethe systemwillaskyou toinsert the Setup CDtocopy
filesduringthe installation.
Please NOTE thattheMP54G5shouldbe installed intoyour
computerbeforeinstalling thedriverandutility.Then,the
operatingsystemwilldetectanewdeviceandstarttoconfigure
thenewdevice. Click Cancel heretostartinstallation fromthe
InstallShieldWizard.
Click
Tip: TheMP545adaptershould
beinstalled intoyourPCbefore
installingthe driver andutility.
Theadaptermodel you installed

Insertthe softwareCDintoyourCD-ROMdrive,and theSetup
programshouldlaunch automatically.
If theAutorun programdoesn tlaunch automatically, click Start
atthetaskbar andselect Run....Type E:\setup.exe (where Eis
yourCD-drive) inthe Open box andclick OK tolaunch the
Setupprogrammanually.
The mainscreenofSetup programwillappear asbelow.
1. Clickthe Install WLANDriver button.
2. ThewelcomescreenofInstallShieldWizardappears.
Click Next.
3. Readandaccept theLicense Agreement; then, click Next.
4. Click Install andtheprogramwillcopythenecessary
files tothesystem.Theprogress indicator showsthe
installing status.
5. Click Finish when theWLANdriverinstallationis
completed.
