Remove the top and bottom assemblies of the Vari-Rack from
the carton. Loosen the four ea. 5/16" hex nuts and remove the
4 ea. 10-32 x 1/2" screws (shown below) on both sides of each
assembly. Slide the front and rear parts of the assembly to
the desired depth and center the inner bracket on the assembly.
The Vari-Rack top and bottom assemblies can also be adjusted
in standard EIA increments that will accept Lowell standard
blank panels, vent panels and fan panels.
Markings are located on the inner bracket showing 1 through 4
rack unit spaces. Simply follow the steps mentioned above and
adjust the depth of the assembly using the inner brackets as a
guide. Once the depth is determined, replace the 10-32 x 1/2"
flat head screws in the holes (as shown) and secure each screw
with a 10-32 hex nut. Tighten the 5/16" hex nuts. Repeat this
procedure to the remaining assembly.
These 4 pinning screws should be used when possible but the
assembly can be adjusted to depths other than the ones
mentioned above.
It is recommended that cabinets with excessive loads or heights
over 16 RU should be securely fastened at the base.

Position the top assembly, bottom
assembly and the mounting rails as
shown at the right.
The mounting rails are numbered consecutively
in EIA rack units and are made for right hand or
left hand applications.
Slide the 2 larger holes on the end of the mounting
rails over the 2 ea. 5/16" threaded studs in the
corners of the bottom assembly as shown in
(detail B). Install the 5/16" hex nuts on the studs but
do not tighten at this time.
Align the 10-32 tapped holes in the mounting rails
with the countersunk holes in the front and rear of
the assembly and insert a 10-32 x 1/2" flat head
screw in each hole (detail A).
After the 10-32 screws are inserted and tightened
in the rails, tighten the 5/16" nut on the threaded
studs as shown in (detail B).
Repeat the above steps with all 4
rails on both the top and bottom
assemblies.

Optional rear mounting rails are
also available with this rack.
Included with the rear mounting
rails are two pair of rear support
brackets.
Position the support brackets on
the Vari-Rack as shown. Align
the holes in the bracket with the
matching holes in the mounting
rails (make sure all 4 holes are
centered). Insert a 10-32 x 1/2"
flat head screw in the holes
shown in (detail D.)
Align the .218" dia holes in the
additional mounting rails with
the slots in the support bracket
and insert a 10-32 x 5/8" truss
head screw in each hole.
Secure each screw with a
10-32 hex nut.
A rail side support bracket is supplied
in cabinets that are 30RU of vertical
panel space or greater. This bracket
can be installed in racks deeper than
17.5".
Attach the bracket to the front and
rear mounting rails (as shown) with
the return flanges in. Loosen the
5/16" hex nut on the assembly and
extend it to the depth of the
mounting rail holes.
Align the countersunk holes in the
ends of the bracket with the smaller
diameter holes in the mounting rails.
Make sure all 4 holes on the end of
each bracket are centered over the
matching holes on the mounting rails.
Insert a 10-32 x 1/2" flat head screw
in the inner two countersunk holes
on the bracket and secure each
screw with a 10-32 hex nut. Tighten
the 5/16" hex nut.
