Warranty Details
USB Microscope
The product is guaranteed to be free from defects in workmanship and parts for a period
of 36 months from the date of purchase. Defects that occur within this warranty period, under
normal use and care, will be repaired, replaced or refunded at our discretion.
The benets conferred by this warranty are in addition to all rights and remedies in respect of
the product that the consumer has under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and similar
state and territory laws.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation
for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.You are also entitled to have the goods
repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure
does not amount to a major failure.

Congratulations on purchasing a high quality Maginon product. You have chosen a modern
USB Microscope with excellent technical features and respective accessory, which is particularly
easy to use. Please study all information in detail, observing, in particular, the safety information.
The USB Microscope comes with a 3 year warranty. In case of a defect you will need
the enclosed warranty card and your till receipt.
Keep these in a safe place together with the Operating Instructions.
Include the Operating Instructions when passing on the device to third parties.

3. Hazard, Safety and Warning notices
Intended use
This USB Microscope has been designed for private use and is not suitable to be
used for commercial purposes.
Hazards for children and persons with limited ability to operate
electronic equipment
The USB Microscope, accessories and packaging are not toys for children to play
with and should be kept away from children. There could be a risk of electrocution,
poisoning and suocation.
The device may not be used by persons (including children) with a limited
physical, sensory or mental ability or persons not being able to operate the device
due to a lack of experience and/or knowhow, unless they are supervised by a person
responsible for safety or have received instructions on how to operate the device.
Children should be supervised, to ensure that they are not playing with the device.
Electrocution hazard in wet and humid conditions
Do not expose USB Microscope and its components to dripping or spray water.
Also do not place any containers filled with liquid, such as vases or glasses on top
or immediately next to the device. Danger of fire and electrocution. Protect the USB
Microscope in particular in case of rain, snow, at the beach or near water against
moisture and humidity.
Do not use the USB Microscope and its components in areas exposed to high
humidity, a lot of steam, smoke or dust. Danger of fire and electrocution.
Electrical hazard
Switch o device if foreign bodies or uid has entered the USB Microscope,
disconnect from mains. Leave all parts to dry thoroughly, danger of re and
electrocution.
If the USB Microscope has been dropped or its housing has been damaged, switch
o device, disconnect from mains, danger of re and electrocution.
The USB Microscope may not be dismantled, modied or repaired, there is a
danger of re and electrocution.

Damage from heat – re hazard
Do not leave the USB Microscope in places that are susceptible to considerable
increases in temperature (e.g. in a vehicle). The housing and internal parts may be
damaged, which in turn could cause a fire.
Do not wrap up USB Microscope or place on textiles. This could produce a build
up of heat in the device that could cause deformation of the housing and may
represent a fire hazard.
The microscope may only be connected to computers with USB interface version 1.1
or later. In case of faults, operation via a USB 1.0 interface may cause a short circuit
and may represent a fire hazard.
Injuries and material damage
Only place the USB Microscope on sturdy surfaces. The USB Microscope could
otherwise fall or topple over, causing damage or injury.
Do not operate the USB Microscope whilst running or driving. You could fall or
cause a traffic accident.
Only use the USB cable supplied. Install the cable in such a way that nobody can trip
over it.
Remove the USB cable from the USB port of the computer:
• If you do not use the microscope.
• Prior to any cleaning work.
Regularly check all cables and electrical components for any defects or wear.
Damaged cables, plugs or other components represent a safety hazard.
Ensure adequate ventilation and do not cover the power supply (not supplied) to
prevent overheating.
Do not place any open ignition sources, such as lit candles onto or close to the
device.
Do not use the supplied experimenting materials with objects coming in contact
with food.
Do not eat, drink or smoke at the place were experiments are carried out.
The supplied eosin dye can cause irritation when coming into contact with the
eyes (R36). Do not inhale the dust. If agent comes into contact with the eyes,
rinse thoroughly with water and consult a doctor!
Take care when handling dye. Can cause discolouration of textiles, furniture and
other surfaces.

Damage to the electronics or lens caused by external influences, such as electric
shocks, falls or others are not covered by the warranty and shall thus be charged for.
Do not drop or bump the USB Microscope and always handle with due care as the
USB Microscope could otherwise be damaged.

5. Preparation for use
Remove microscope from packaging and place on a straight, stable and clean surface.
Slide microscope unit from the top into the stand holder.
Before you can use the USB Microscope, the software supplied on the program CD
must be installed on your PC.
5.1. Installation of software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD
Place the supplied program CD containing Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD into the CD
or DVD drive. The CD normally starts up automatically.
Click on menu point “Install Ulead VideoStudio 7“ in the selection menu.
Note:
• First install the UleadVideoStudio 7 SE VCD software and the device driver. Only then complete the USB
connection between the microscope and the PC.
Note:
• If the CD does not start up automatically, open Windows Explorer and select the drive into which the CD has
been inserted.To start the selection menu double click on“AutoRun.exe“. The installation routine can also
be started by double clicking on the“Setup.exe“ file.

Follow the instructions of the installation assistant. After completing a step always
click on “Continue“ to start the next step.
1. Select a language. The default language is
“German“.
2. The menu window of the InstallShield Wizard
appears on screen.
3. Read the license agreement and conrm by
clicking on “Yes“.
4. Enter the user name, the company name,
where applicable, and the serial number.
The serial number of the software can be found on the cover of the program CD. Store
the cover in a safe place.
The “Select target directory“ shows the default target directory. Confirm the
suggested target directory for Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD by clicking on
“Continue”. Or click on the “Search“ button and chose another target directory.
For tuning the unit to your TV system, please select your country and used TV
system in the next step.
Next select whether you wish to read the “ReadMe file“ upon completion of the
installation and whether you wish the registration window to open.
The next window provides an overview of the selected settings. Check the list and
start the installation process by clicking on “Continue”. Click on “Back” to change
already selected settings.
The next step copies the required files to your PC. This may take a few minutes.
Note:
• If the serial number has been entered incorrectly, a warning message will appear. Confirm by clicking on
“OK”and enter serial number.
Note:
• The selection of another program folder may be significant in networks where the hard disc on which the
program is to be installed is not the“C“ drive. On stand alone PCs we recommend installing the program in
the suggested folder.

The software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD has now been installed. If selected at the
top, the “ReadMe file“ and/or registration window is opened. The “ReadMe file“
contains further information about the installation of the program and about
remedying problems.
Click on “No, computer will be restarted later“ if asked in the subsequent
InstallShield Wizard menu and click on ”Finish“ to close the menu screen.
5.2. Installation of device drivers
Now connect the USB Microscope to your PC by connecting the supplied cable rst to
the microscope and then to the USB port of your PC.
Next start “Install PC Cam“ from the selection menu of the program CD.
Note:
• The microscope may only be connected to USB ports version 1.1 or later in order to prevent any hazards.

The menu window of the InstallShield Wizard appears on screen.
To start the transfer of the driver files click on “Continue“. Please restart your
computer once the driver installation has been completed.
After having restarted the system, connect the USB Microscope to your computer,
using the USB cable provided. Please connect the microscope directly to the rear
USB port of your computer.
The installation program will then search for the connected device and set it up for
the application.
The next InstallShield Wizard menu will ask you to restart the computer. Remove the
program CD from the drive and click on “Finish” to restart the computer.
After the PC has been restarted and the Ulead Video Studio 7 SE VCD program has
been started, the USB Microscope is ready for use.
Note:
• The first time the program is started the process will take a little longer as the software still carries out some
program setups automatically.
• If possible, always connect the USB Microscope to the same USB port of your PC to avoid additional
installation steps and multiple installations of drivers.

6. Using the accessories
The USB Microscope is a versatile device. To start o hobby enthusiasts, the set
contains also some accessory materials allowing specic experimenting without the
need for an equipped hobby laboratory.
6.1. Ready made preparations
The following ready made preparations are part of the contents of the box and can be
analyzed under the microscope without further preparation:
• Apple
• Plant pollen
• Leaf of water thyme (Hydrilla verticillata)
• Leaf of broad bean (Vicia faba)
• Onion skin (Allium cepa)
6.2. Making your own preparations
The following accessories have been provided for making your own preparations:
• Slide: Using a sharp blade cut very ne samples from the material to be examined
and place on the clear slide.
• Adhesive (Rubber Arabicum): This substance is water soluble and is used to
attach preparations to the slide.
• Eosin colouring: Eosin is a strong dye for colouring preparations, making it easier
to see details (such as cell walls or cell nuclei). The use of minute amounts
together with a drop of water suces.
Note:
• Caution !The supplied Eosin dye can cause irritation when coming into contact with the eyes (R36). Do not
inhale the dust! If agent comes into contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and consult a doctor!
• Be careful when handling dye. Can cause discolouration of textiles, furniture and other surfaces.

7. Using the microscope
7.1. Adjusting the lighting
Connect the USB Microscope to the switched on PC and switch on the object lighting
by pushing the Lighting button:
• Press 1x: The object is illuminated from above (uplighting principle). This setting
should be used for examining non transparent objects.
• Press 2x: The object is illuminated from below (backlighting principle). This setting
should be used for examining transparent objects.
• Press 3x: The object is illuminated from below and above. Use this setting to show
internal and surface structures of semi transparent objects.
• Press 4x: Illumination is switched off completely.
7.2. Setting the factor of magnication
The inside of the microscope unit contains 3 optical systems with dierent
magnication factors (10x, 60x, 200x) moved by the Magnication dial in front of the
image converter (lens changer). The dial can be turned in any direction until it
engages. The selected magnication is shown on the dial.
7.3. First observation
1. Switch on the object lighting as described above.
2. Select the lowest magnification (10x) by turning the Magnification dial.
3. Place a slide containing the preparation under the retaining clamps on the
microscope stage.
4. Start the software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD.
5. Click on the first tab “Capture“ for record. Once the microscope is ready, the
Ready Light lights up. The preparation now appears in the preview area of the
program window.
6. Adjust the picture focus by turning the Focus dial.
7. Where necessary, move slide until the preparation is fully lit and at the centre of
the image.
8. You can now select a higher magnification, the focus will then have to be
readjusted.

8. Recording and storing images and videos
8.1. Snapshot function
• Carry out steps 1 to 8 as directed in section 7.3.
• Push the Snapshot button to capture the image currently displayed.
• The “SnapShow“ window and the image is shown on screen. By pushing the button
again, the last image is always displayed on screen.
• By clicking on “File“ and “Save“ the image can be saved on the hard disc in PNG,
JPEG or Bitmap format. The selection options appear in the next window (as shown).

8.2. Creating digital images with Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD
• Carry out steps 1 to 8 as directed in section 7.3.
• Ensure that in the“Source“ drop down menu the
USB Microscope is specified as the source. The
entry for the microscope is “USB 2.0 Video
Camera“. Change the selection where required.
• Specify the folder in which the images are to be
stored. Click on the folder symbol“Recording
folder“ and select the desired folder.
• In the Ulead program window click on“record
image“. The image is recorded. Preview windows
appear in the right and bottom area of the
program window.
• The image is stored in the Bitmap format .bmp.
• In order to view an image in the preview window, click on the small preview image
in the right area of the program window. The view below the heading,
• “VideoStudio 7“ may have to be changed to “Image“.

8.3. Producing digital videos with Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD
• Carry out steps 1 to 8 as directed in section 7.3.
• Select the desired video format from the menu point“Format“.
• Click on the symbol “Capture Video“ to start recording.
• The recording time is shown under“Duration’“.
• To stop recording click on the symbol“Stop recording“.
