Introduction
Thank You for purchasing the Magnet PR-9R. The PR-9R is a Solid State Line Pre-
amplifier, representing Magnet’s goal of merging technology and convenience into one
product. The full functions remote control let you comfortably control your stereo
from your favorite listening chair and just enjoy your music. The PR-9R has been
carefully designed, manufactured and tested to ensure our product’s high quality and
reliability. You will never be disappointed with Magnet.
The PR-9R
The PR-9R is a series of precise and well designed circuits. With separated JFET
Folded Cascade Differential Input, each channel has its own entire DC servo
controlling a directed couple output circuit. The PR-9R creates a clear, warm and vivid
midrange. Bass sound is tight and fast. With an accurate frequency response of less
than +/- 0.1dB from 20-20,000 Hz and THD+NOISE of less than 0.0025 %, the
PR9R specifications show how precisely the PR-9R can reproduce your music. You
can be sure every sound you hear is an accurate reproduction of the original
performance.
The PR-9R emphasizes on the line level pre-amplifier design and making it more
suitable for today’s digital stereo system. The PR-9R has 7 signal inputs and 2
outputs. The 2 pre-outputs make it capable of connecting with 2 power-amplifiers at
the same time. The ON/OFF power switch and remote control circuit are independent
and separate from the audio signal, maintaining the purity of the signal path. The PR-
9R remote control can accurately adjust the volume without compromising
conveniences. We use Alps’s highest grade motor driven parts for selector, volume
and balance units.
All components and accessories are audiophile grade and many are specifically
designed for high-end audio. The double sided PCB allows us to include a full surface
ground plane to reduce stray capacitance and inductive-coupling to reduce the
interference of RF signals.
1% tolerance metal film resistors, Wima capacitors, Wonder Cap, gold plated RCA
jacks, 6mm aluminum anodized faceplate and full aluminum chassis are just a few
features for those of you who are looking for a quality Hi-end product. This is a
product that you can be sure of sound quality, high valued, and durability for many
years to come.

control will turn the machine on. The LED on the front panel will light up
when the machine in ON. The PR-9R will remain in mute for approximately
10 sec after turning on to allow for component stabilization. The power
LED will be dimly lit while the machine is on MUTE. The LED will be fully
lit when the machine is out of mute and ready to play.
Press POWER again to turn the machine OFF. The LED will fade off when
the power is off.
Remark The PR-9R has an on-off digital control signal (REMOTE) to turn
the power amplifier ON/OFF with the pre-amplifier.
2.TAPE Press the Tape switch once to select TAPE input as the source. The
green LED will lit while in TAPE mode. Press TAPE once more to
un-selected TAPE mode.
3.CD/TUNER/LASER/VIDEO/LINE1/LINE2
Turn the select knob to your desired source input.
4.BALANCE Turning the balance level will lower your output level left/right. Leaving it
in the center will give you equal output on both channels. Sometimes in
unequal source recording, you may need to adjust the balance level to
get a balanced stereo image.
5.VOLUME Adjust the output level.

Connections
INPUTS The PR-9R has a total of 7 line level inputs.
1. CD Receives signals from a Compact Disc player.
2. TUNER Receives signals from a Tuner.
3. LASER Receives signals from a Laser Disc player.
4. VIDEO Receives signals from a VCR audio outputs.
5. LINE1 receives the signal from input line level.
6. LINE2 receives the signal from input line level.
7. TAPE Receives signals from a cassette tape player.
REC (Recording output monitor) The PR-9R has 2 recording monitor output for

If the program source is from a VCR, then there is no output at REC (Video)
because the VCR Player cannot play and record at the same time. Video source
can only be recorded to a cassette tape player.
Some audiophiles believe that the higher bandwidth of the VCR tape will
reproduce higher quality audio signal than the conventional cassette tape.
9. TAPE (REC) Send output signal from selected program source to Cassette
tape input. To record from the program source onto Cassette
tape, turn the selector switch to the source program you wish to
record and press record on the cassette tape player.
OUTPUTS The PR-9R have 2 outputs for connection to power-amplifier.
10. OUTPUT 2 Sends signals to power-amplifier (use in bi-amp application).
11. OUTPUT1 Sends signals to power-amplifier
12. REMOTE This is a digital control signal designed to use as remote control
signal to other Magnet power-amplifier with remote turn on
capabilities. With this function, your power-amplifier can be
power ON/OFF with your PR-9R POWER switch.
Connect the cable supplied with the PR-9R into this jack and connect the other
end to Magnet power-amplifier with remote turn on capabilities.
13. AC POWER Connect the PR-9R to an AC power source only of the type
describe in these operating instruction or as marked on the rear
panel of the unit.
We recommend plugging the cord's outlet end into a grounded 3 hole wall outlet.
Please make sure to have the proper power voltage rating to match with your
PR-9R.
Connect power to your PR-9 with a CE or UL certified power cable only.
