Please note all (Ref.) refer to the Controls and Functions mapping guide on
Page 1.
Plug the power connector into the back of the system via the
port that is labelled as DC 5V (Ref.). Alternatively, charge the
radio for approximately 2.5 hours, using the power cable, to
charge the internal battery. This will allow for approximately 4-6
hours of charge.
Once powered or charged, switch the Power Supply switch on
the back of the system to‘ON’(Ref.).
Ensure the antenna (Ref.) is extended as far as possible so that
you can rotate it. This will allow you to receive the best possible
signal before DAB or FM mode are selected.
When you rst switch on the radio, it will be in Standby mode
showing the time and date. The time and date will not yet be set
up, but it will automatically update after you switch to DAB later
on.
Press the ‘Power/Source’ button (Ref.) to turn on the unit. It will
automatically take you to DAB radio mode or the previous mode
you were using.
If DAB mode is activated, the radio will automatically begin
scanning and storing DAB stations with good signal. The screen
will display “Full Scan”when it is scanning, and will display a
radio station when the scan is complete.

If the radio does not automatically begin scanning, simply press
the ‘Scan’ button (Ref.) to initiate a full scan. Once it is nished,
the rst available station will begin to play.
Now that the DAB stations have been scanned and searched,
you can scroll through the available DAB/DAB+ stations by using
the ‘Prev’ button (Ref.) or ‘Next’ button (Ref.). Once you nd
a station you wish to listen to, press the ‘Select/Snooze’ button
(Ref.) to select the station.
To change the mode, press the‘Power/Source’ button (Ref.) to
switch between DAB Radio and FM Radio.
Further guidance on DAB and FM will be provided in the following
pages.
Standby
To place the music system in standby mode, press and hold the
‘Power/Source button (Ref.)
To turn the radio o fully, turn the switch at the rear of the unit
(Ref.) to OFF and turn the power o at the mains. This would
be advisable to save the radio’s internal battery charge if you are
operating it in this way instead of operating it from the mains.
Please keep the power cord out of reach of children.

In working mode and o standby, press the ‘Power/Source’
button (Ref.) to switch the mode to DAB Radio. On rst use it
will automatically scan all stations and save them.
Fully extend the antenna (Ref.) to ensure the best signal is
being received for the scan.
If the unit hasn’t automatically scanned or you would like to
rescan the available stations, press the‘Scan’button(Ref.) and
then release. This would also be advisable if you are having
trouble listening to particular stations.
Once you have chosen to scan, the radio will display“Full Scan”
as it starts scanning up the frequency band and store stations.
Once the scan is complete, the rst radio station with good
signal will begin to play.
To browse through all of the stations that have been stored, use
the ‘Next’ and ‘Prev’ buttons (Ref./8) to scroll through them.
Once you have found your desired station, press the‘Select/
Snooze’ button (Ref.) to conrm your choice.
When listening to a DAB station, you can access station
information by pressing the ‘Info/Menu’ button (Ref.)
repeatedly to view information available (See page 7)
When you power up the radio again after switching o, it will
automatically tune to the same station (DAB or FM) that was last
selected.

How to store a preset radio station
To be able to quickly access your favourite DAB stations, you can
preset the stations. Up to 10 dierent preset stations can be set
for you to browse between.
To store a station as your preset, it is best to be listening to the
station at the time.
Once listening to the station, press and hold the ‘Preset’ button
(Ref.). The screen will then display “Preset Store <1: (Empty)” to
show the empty preset 1. To set the station as preset 1, simply
press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.) to conrm your choice.
To set the station as preset number 2 or above, press the ‘Prev’
(Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons to change the “<1” to the number
you want to store the station as. Follow by pressing the ‘Select/
Snooze’ button (Ref.) to save.
Once the station is saved as a preset, the display will then show
“Preset (x) stored”.
How to play a preset radio station
To play your preset radio stations, press the‘Preset’ button to
enter the preset catalogue (Ref.).
Use the ‘Prev’ (Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons to scroll through
your preset stations from 1-10.
Once you have found the preset station you wish to play, press
the ‘Select/Snooze’ button (Ref.) to select your choice. The
station will now begin to play.

DAB/DAB+ Station Information
Whilst listening to a DAB/DAB+ station, you can nd out station
information. Press the ‘Info/Menu’ button (Ref.) repeatedly to
scroll through the following information:
Bit Rate: Shows the data rate at which the signal is being
transmitted.
Bit Error Rate (BER): Provides details of the signal error rate.
Channel and Frequency: Displays the station’s transmission
channel number and frequency.
PTY (Programme Type): Shows the type and description of the
programme provided by the DAB station.
Time and Date: Displays the time and date information
provided by the broadcaster.
DAB Indication: Indicates DAB mode.
Dynamic Label Segment (DLS): Displays scrolling text
information supplied by the broadcaster.

Press the ‘Power/Source’ button (Ref.) multiple times to switch
to FM. The rst time you do this, the FM frequency “87.5 MHz’will
be displayed on the screen.
Fully extend the antenna (Ref.).
To scan for the available stations with good signal, press the
‘Scan’ button (Ref.) for the radio to begin scanning up the
frequency band. The next available station will then begin to
play.
To scan down the frequency band, press and hold the ‘Scan’
button (Ref.).
The radio will display station information when you press the
‘Info/Menu’ button (Ref.). Press multiple times to view all
information available (See page 10 for more information).
How to tune a specic frequency manually
To listen to a specic frequency, press and hold the ‘Next’ button
(Ref.) to search forward quickly, or the‘Prev’ button (Ref.) to
search back quickly. It will stop searching when the button is
released.
To search slowly, press the‘Next’or ‘Prev’button (Ref./8)
multiple times rather than holding.

How to set Mono or Stereo
Press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.) multiple times to change
between Mono and Stereo. The receiver will automatically switch
between Mono and Stereo.
Playing ‘Strong’ or ‘All’ FM Stations
When on FM mode, you can decide if you would like to pick up
all stations (even if they do not have a good signal), or just the
stations with strong signal.
To do this, press and hold the‘Info/Menu’button and use the
‘Prev’ or ‘Next’ buttons (Ref.7/8) to scroll through to‘FM Scan
Set’. Conrm this choice by selecting ‘Select/Snooze’(Ref.5)
You can now choose between ‘Only’or ‘All. Select “Only’”with the
‘Select/Snooze’button to only receive the stations with good
signal.

FM Station Information
Whilst listening to an FM station, you can nd out station
information. Press the ‘Info/Menu’ button (Ref.) repeatedly to
scroll through the following information:
Signal Strength: Displays a signal bar with the strength of the
current station.
Time and Date: Displays the time and date.
Frequency: Displays the station’s transmission frequency
Audio Type: Displays the audio type of the station you are
listening to. it will either be Stereo or Mono.
Radio Text: Displays scrolling text information supplied by the
broadcaster.
Programme Type: Displays a description of the type of
programme provided by the broadcaster.

Clock and Date Setting
Manually Setting the Time
Ensure the unit is in working mode. The time will automatically
update after the rst time of using DAB radio, but you can still
set the time manually as follows:
To enter radio settings, press and hold the ‘Info/Menu’ button
(Ref.).
Use the ‘Prev/Next’ buttons (Ref./8) to scroll through to ‘Time/
Date’ and press the ‘Select/Snooze’ button to select (Ref.).
Once this option is selected, the hour will then ash on the
display screen. You can now alter the time hour by pressing the
‘prev’ (Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons until the required hour is
displayed.
To conrm the hour press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.).
The minutes will then ash on the display screen. Press the‘Prev’
(Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons until the required minute is
displayed.
To conrm the minute press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.).
The time is now set and you will be able to alter the date in the
next step.

Manually Setting the Date
The date can be changed straight after changing the time.
The year will ash on the display screen. To change the date year,
press the ‘Prev’ (Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons until the required
year is displayed.
To conrm the year, press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.).
The month will then ash on the display screen. Press the‘Prev’
(Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons until the required month is
displayed.
To conrm the month press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.).
The day will then ash on the display screen. Press the‘Prev’
(Ref.) or ‘Next’ (Ref.) buttons until the required date is
displayed.
To conrm the date, press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.)

Dual Alarm Setting
Alarm 1/Alarm 2 Setting
1. Press (do not hold) the ‘Alarm/Sleep’button (Ref.) and “Alarm
1” will be displayed. Press the button twice for“Alarm 2”. To select
the alarm, press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.).
2. Once alarm 1 or 2 is selected, OFF will display on the screen.
To turn the alarm on, press the ‘Next’ button (Ref.) to make “ON”
ash on the display. Press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.) to
conrm the alarm switch on.
3. The hour digits for the alarm will then ash. To set the hour
you want the alarm to sound, press the ‘Prev’ or ‘Next’ buttons
(Ref./8) to browse to the hour and press the‘Select/Snooze’
button (Ref.) to conrm your choice.
4. The minutes of the alarm are now able to be set. Using the
‘Prev’ or ‘Next’ buttons (Ref./8), scroll up and down the minutes
and press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.) to conrm your
choice.
5. Once the alarm time is set, you can change the alarm volume
by pressing the‘Prev’ or ‘Next’ buttons (Ref./8) to choice the
noise level. Press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.) to conrm.
6. You can now choose the alarm tone sound. Press the ‘Prev’ or
‘Next’ buttons (Ref./8) to change which sound you would like:
Alarm, DAB or FM Radio. Press the ‘Select/Snooze’ button (Ref.)
to conrm.
To set Alarm 2, follow Alarm 1 instructions but choose “Alarm 2
S e t ”.

Alarm Functions
Cancel Alarm 1 or Alarm 2
To cancel the alarm, press the ‘Alarm/Sleep’button (Ref.) and
“Alarm 1” will be displayed. Use the ‘Prev/Next’ buttons (Ref./6)
to choose “Alarm 1” or “Alarm 2” depending on which alarm
you wish to cancel. Press the‘Select/Snooze’ (Ref.) button to
conrm.
To turn the alarm o, press the ‘Next’ (Ref.) button so that
the word“OFF”is ashing and press the‘Select/Snooze’button
(Ref.) to conrm.
Switch o the alarm when it is sounding
If the alarm is set to sound a DAB/DAB+ or FM station, the alarm
will sound that station for one hour unless it is turned o.
To turn o the alarm when it is sounding, press the ‘Alarm/Sleep’
button (Ref.).
Snoozing your alarm
When the alarm sounds, press the‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.)
to snooze for another 9 minutes. The radio will now go into
standby mode and will sound again in 9 minutes.

Other Functions
Sleep Setting
This enables you to programme the radio to switch o at a
selection of set times up to 120 minutes from activation.
Press and hold the ‘Alarm/Sleep’ button (Ref.) for 1 second and
release.
Using the ‘Prev/Next’ (Ref./8) buttons, choose the sleep timer
amount from activation: 5mins, 15mins, 30mins, 45min, 60mins,
90mins, 120mins or OFF.
When your choice is displayed press the‘Select/Snooze’button
(Ref.). The system will automatically start the timer.
To turn the sleep timer o, follow the above instructions and
choose “OFF” from the choices.
Once the timer has been set, the minutes will count down on
the display screen. For example, if set to turn o in 5 minutes
“S5” will ash, counting down to “S0”. The radio will then go into
standby mode.

System Reset
To erase all setting and preset options, and reset your radio,
perform a factory reset. This would also be advisable if you are
having any functionality issues with your radio.
To perform a factory reset, press and hold the ‘Info/Menu’ button
(Ref.3).
Use the ‘Prev/Next’ buttons (Ref.7/8) to browse to the “Factory
Reset” option and press the ‘Select/Snooze’ button (Ref.5) to
conrm.
The display screen will then show “Factory Reset Yes or No?”. To
conrm the factory reset, use the‘Next’button (Ref.8) to choose
“Yes”. Press‘Select/Snooze’ button (Ref.5) to initiate the factory
reset.
SW Version – Software Version Display
Press and hold the ‘Info/Menu’ button (Ref.).
Use the ‘Prev/Next’ button (Ref./8) to select “SW Version”and
press the ‘Select/Snooze’button (Ref.). The software version will
then display.
Headphones
You can listen to your DAB/FM Radio using headphones.
Just plug the your headphones into the 3.5mm socket at the rear
of the unit (Ref.).

Play Time
The Newnham has an internal rechargeable battery that has a
playtime of 4-6 hours when it is fully charged. This will allow you
to take the radio on the go and use it portably.
If you want to turn the radio, save the battery life by putting into
standby mode and then turn o at the ON/OFF switch.
To charge your radio, simply plug it into the mains using the
power adapter provided.
Charging
The unit will charge in standby and working mode if it is
connected to the mains.
To conrm that the unit is on charge, a red light will appear on
the back of the system (Ref.). the unit takes approximately 2.5
hours to fully charge, after which the light will show blue.
