MARTIAN WATCH OVERVIEW
Congratulations on your purchase of the MARTIAN WATCH! The MARTIAN WATCH provides you
with connectivity to your cell phone via Bluetooth® wireless technology, allowing you to:
Place and answer calls,
Send text messages (“speech-to-text” via voice command)
Receive text messages (OLED display and/or“text-to-speech” played through the Watch),
Initiate voice commands to set calendar events and reminders, and search for information,
Be notified of incoming calls, texts, and calendar and social media events with vibration, an
LED light and OLED text display,
And more
All without taking your cell phone out of your pocket, purse or backpack!
The MARTIAN WATCH allows 2+ hours of talk time and 7 days of standby time, and the timepiece
will run for approximately 30 days on a charge.
DEVICE COMPATIBILITY
Your device features determine your MARTIAN WATCH functionality.
Cell phones: The “talk and listen” feature of MARTIAN will work with any cell phone that has
Bluetooth wireless technology. (How do you know if your phone works with MARTIAN? First
find out if it has Bluetooth connectivity. To know for sure, borrow a friend’s Bluetooth
headset and pair it with your device. If you can place a call by saying a name in your
Contacts list, or answer a call, then MARTIAN will work with your phone for basic dialing and
answering features.)
Since MARTIAN connects to your mobile device using Bluetooth technology, anything you
can do with your Bluetooth headset, you can do with your MARTIAN WATCH.

To use the Voice Command access feature on your MARTIAN WATCH, you must have a
compatible Voice Command feature on your mobile device.
o Voice Command functions for Android are dependent upon your device. If your device
came with an integrated Voice Command app and it works with a Bluetooth headset, it
will work with MARTIAN. Coming soon: If you don’t have integrated Voice Command,
most Androids will work with Martian via the app. Here’s how to test your phone:
Download the app and choose it as your default Voice Command app. If your
Bluetooth headset can initiate commands via , then Martian will work, as well.
o On iPhone 5, iPhone4S, and iPad 3, MARTIAN works with Siri. On iPhone 4 and iPhone
3GS, it works with the integrated Voice Controls.
Text and email notification/display is supported with all devices that have a MAP profile, or
by downloading the MARTIAN WATCH ALERTS App for Android. (the MAP profile is available
for all compatible Apple products using iOS 6)

GETTING STARTED
Kit contents
Before you start using your MARTIAN WATCH, make sure the following items are in the box:

Charging
The charging cable can be plugged into your computer’s USB port or a power outlet (wall
adapter sold separately). A solid red light will appear when the Watch is receiving power. Charge
your MARTIAN WATCH until the light changes to green (approximately 2 hours). Unplug from
cable and you’re ready to turn on your MARTIAN WATCH, pair to your cell phone, and set the
time.
Turning Your MARTIAN WATCH On and Off
To turn your Watch on, tap both buttons simultaneously. The green light will flash 6 times, the
Watch will vibrate, and the OLED will display “Hello”. Tap both buttons again when you want to
turn the Watch off. The red light will flash 6 times, the Watch will vibrate and the OLED will
display “Good-bye”.
Checking Battery Life
On a full battery, you will have 2+ hours of talk time or 7 days of standby time, and the Watch
will run for approximately 30 days. When the Watch is turned on, you can check the battery level
by pressing the bottom button to access the status menu during charging or operation. The

battery icon is on the left of the screen and will display battery level with a proportionate icon. A
solid battery is displayed when fully charged. When the battery level reaches the “critical” stage,
the red light will flash every 10 seconds until you press the bottom button to acknowledge.

Pairing Your MARTIAN WATCH
After you have fully charged the battery, your MARTIAN has to be paired with your phone before
you can use it. It can only be paired with one phone at a time. If you wish to use your Watch with
a different phone, you need to unpair from the current phone and start a new pairing procedure
with the next phone.
To enter pairing mode, press and hold the top button until the blue light begins flashing steadily,
which indicates that your MARTIAN WATCH has entered pairing mode. Release the button when
the light begins to flash. The PIN code “0000” will appear on the OLED display of your Watch,
in case your phone requires a PIN code to pair.
For Android Phones:
1. Go to Applications/Settings/Wireless & Network/Bluetooth.
2. Turn on Bluetooth if not already on.
3. Go to Bluetooth Settings and make device “discoverable” if not already on.
4. On your phone, “MARTIAN WATCH” will appear on the Devices Menu.
5. Tap “MARTIAN WATCH”, and when the pop-up appears, tap “Accept”.
6. If phone requests confirmation, tap “Yes”.
1. A pop-up window will appear on your phone, telling you that MARTIAN WATCH would
like to pair with your phone, and asking you to confirm the code on your phone matches
the code on your MARTIAN. If the codes match, tap “Pair” to complete the pairing
process. If the codes don’t match, tap “cancel” and try again.
For iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch:
2. For iOS 6, go to Settings/Bluetooth. For iOS 5, go to Settings/General/Bluetooth.
3. “MARTIAN WATCH” will appear on your phone’s Devices Menu.
4. Tap “MARTIAN WATCH”.
5. A pop-up window will appear on your phone, telling you that MARTIAN WATCH would

like to pair with your phone, and asking you to confirm the code on your phone matches
the code on your MARTIAN. If the codes match, tap “Pair” to complete the pairing
process. If the codes don’t match, tap “cancel” and try again.
6. If you are using iOS 6 and wish to receive text messages on your MARTIAN: After pairing
is completed, wait 5 seconds and then tap the > button to the right of “MARTIAN WATCH.”
Switch “Show Notifications” to “On”. Then tap the “Bluetooth” button on the top of the
screen to go back to the previous menu.
Note: If text messages don’t begin to appear, go back into the Bluetooth menu and turn
Bluetooth off and back on again, then press the bottom button on your MARTIAN WATCH
to reconnect.
For Other Phones (may vary depending on phone):
1. Turn on the Bluetooth function in the phone (follow the instructions in your phone’s User
Manual).
2. If needed, turn Bluetooth visibility on in your phone (most phones do this automatically
when you turn on the Bluetooth function). This makes your phone discoverable to other
Bluetooth devices.
3. Press both buttons on the Watch until the blue light flashes, then release.
4. Press “YES” when “Add Device?” appears in your phone. If “Add Device?” does not
appear, review step 1. For some phones, you may need to enter a passcode. The default
passcode is 0000.
5. A pop-up window will appear on your phone, telling you that MARTIAN WATCH would
like to pair with your phone, and asking you to confirm the code on your phone matches
the code on your Martian. If the codes match, tap “Pair” to complete the pairing process.
If the codes don’t match, tap “cancel” and try again.
With all phones, if pairing is successful, the Watch will vibrate and the blue light will flash
quickly 3 times, and when you tap the bottom button, you will see the Bluetooth icon on the
OLED display.
Setting the time
Gently pull out the crown and rotate it to set the time. When the time is set, push the crown back
in until you hear a click.
Range/Disconnected and Re-Connecting
After you have paired your Watch with a phone, some phones have the option in settings to
“always ask” or “always allow” the Watch to reconnect to your phone after you go out of range
and back in.
1. Always Ask
If you choose “Always ask”, you will always be asked if you want to reconnect each time
the Watch and the phone are within range.
2. Always Allow

If you choose “Always allow”, the Watch automatically reconnects to the phone each
time both devices are within range.
“Always allow” is the preferred setting.
When you are out of range, the Watch attempts to connect every 1 minute for the first 5 minutes,
then every 3 minutes after that. If you are back in range, you can manually reconnect your Watch
by pressing any button if you don’t wish to wait for it to automatically re-connect.
Each time the Watch returns to the range of the phone and stays connected for 30 seconds, the
blue light will flash 3 times and the OLED screen will display “Connected”.
In Android, iPhone 5, and iPhone 4S, you can use the “Martian Leash” option to be notified that
you have left the cell phone’s range. Please see “Martian Leash” section for more information.
The “connected” range of the MARTIAN WATCH to your cell phone is approximately 10 feet/3
meters, but the distance may vary depending on your location, obstacles, etc. You will likely
improve your range if there are no solid objects between your Watch and phone.
Status Bar
The Status Bar gives you operating information that includes, among other things, battery level,
volume level, Bluetooth connected status, and date.
Press the bottom button once to view the Status Bar. Icons that may appear include:
Martian Menu
The Menu allows you to change the settings of select features on your Watch. To access the
Martian Menu, press the bottom button twice. Press the bottom button repeatedly to scroll

through the available menu items, and press the top button to enter that item.
Once inside a menu, use the top button to scroll to the option you would like, then either press
the bottom button to keep that selection and move on to the next menu item, or it will exit
automatically and save your changes after 3 seconds. To exit the Menu, use the bottom button to
scroll to “Exit”, then press the top button; or it will exit automatically after 3 seconds.
Sound Profiles:
Options are High (3), Medium (2), and Low (1). You will see the volume setting your
Watch is currently set on – to change it, press the top button repeatedly and it will scroll
through the volumes. You can then press the bottom button to go back to the main menu
items, or it will exit automatically after 3 seconds. This will be your “default” sound
profile. During an active call, you can change the volume by pressing the bottom button
repeatedly, and it will return to your default setting after you hang up.
LED On/Off:
This controls the red/green/blue light that notifies you of calls, texts, low battery, etc.
Options are On and Off. If LED shows “Off”, press top button to switch to “On”, and
vice versa.
Martian Leash:
See “Martian Leash” section for details on usage. Options are On and Off. If Leash shows
“Off”, press top button to switch to “On”, and vice versa.
Gestures On/Off:
See “Gesture Controls” section for details on usage. Options are On and Off. If Gestures
shows “Off”, press top button to switch to “On”, and vice versa.
Setup:
Languages: Use the top button to scroll through the languages – English, Spanish,
French, German, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. When you reach the language you
would like to use as the default language, either press the bottom button to keep that
selection and move on to the next menu item, or it will exit automatically and save your
changes after 3 seconds.
Date layout: You can choose to view your date as mm/dd or dd/mm. Use the top button to
scroll between mm/dd and dd/mm. When you reach the layout you prefer, either press the
bottom button to keep that selection and move on to the next menu item, or it will exit
automatically and save your changes after 3 seconds.
A2DP controls whether your music comes through your cell phone or Bluetooth® device
(MARTIAN WATCH, headset, etc.). If A2DP is off, music will play through your phone; if it
is on, it will play through your Watch (please note that this will affect battery life). If
A2DP shows “Off”, press top button to switch to “On”, and vice versa.

The MARTIAN WATCH ALERTS App (for Apple devices and Android phones - free download)
Features
With the Martian App:
You will automatically be able to:
o Receive text message notifications on your Watch, even if your cell phone doesn’t
have a Bluetooth MAP profile.
o View Martian battery life icon on your phone
o Enable Text-to-Speech so incoming notifications from the listed apps will be read
to you verbally as they come in
Choose which notifications you wish to receive on your MARTIAN WATCH:
o Facebook notifications
o Twitter mentions
o Today’s weather forecast for your area
o Gmail notification of unread emails
o Calendar
o Hotmail
o Yahoo! Mail
o Sina Weibo
Downloading the App
Android: Visit the Google Play Store on your phone and search “MARTIAN WATCH ALERTS”.
Download per store instructions.
iPhone: Visit the App Store on your phone and search “MARTIAN WATCH ALERTS”. Download per
store instructions. (coming soon)
Using the App
Android: After downloading the MARTIAN WATCH ALERTS App to your phone, you will find it in
your Applications folder. Tap on the icon to open it.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: After the MARTIAN WATCH ALERTS App has finished downloading to
your device, it will appear on your desktop. Tap on the icon to open it.
Once the App is open, it will check to make sure that your phone’s Bluetooth connection is on –
if not, it will instruct you to turn on your Bluetooth (if needed, see “Turning On and Pairing”
section to locate this on your phone).
You will then be asked to enter your Facebook User Name and Password to access notifications.
To accept, enter the information and submit. To decline, press the “back” button on your phone.
You will receive the same request for Twitter “mention” notifications. To accept, enter the

information and submit. To decline, press the “back” button on your phone.
You may then choose to turn notifications on or off – this can be changed at any time by
accessing the MARTIAN App on your phone.
USING YOUR WATCH
Accessing Voice Command
A key feature of your Watch is its ability to access your phone’s Voice Command functions. The
Watch essentially acts as a remote speaker and microphone. All processing of the commands is
done by the phone in the same manner that direct on-phone voice commands are processed.
To access Voice Commands via the Watch, tap the top button. The green light will flash to
acknowledge your request. Wait until you hear your Voice Command’s “beep”, then speak your
command. You can press the top button a second time to end the connection. If you end the
connection, or if Voice Command “times out”, the red light will flash. If this happens, tapping
the top button again will initiate another command.
NOTE: Because MARTIAN WATCH is accessing your cell phone’s Voice Command feature, it can
only execute commands that your specific phone is capable of executing. See your phone’s Voice
Command instructions to find out which commands it can accept. For example, with iPhone 4
you can command that the phone call a number in your address book, but you cannot ask what
the weather is like today because this feature is not supported in devices prior to iPhone 4S.
Calls
Incoming Call:
When the phone rings, the Watch vibrates, the green light flashes, and the name or number of the
caller is displayed on the Watch’s OLED display.
To answer, press the top button. To mute/reject the call and send it to voicemail, press the bottom
button, and the OLED will display “Call Declined”.
When you are finished with your conversation, press the top button to end the call. The OLED
will display “Call Ended”.
Outgoing Call:
Tap the top button. The green light will flash to acknowledge your request. Wait until you hear
your Voice Command’s “beep”, then interact with Voice Command as you would from your
phone.
NOTE: You can only make outgoing calls from your MARTIAN WATCH if you have Voice Command

on your cell phone.
Call Volume and Mute:
While you are on a call, if you want to change the volume press the bottom button multiple
times. This will cycle through the 3 options, which you will see on your OLED display. Simply
stop when you reach the option you want to use: Low, Medium, or High. When you finish your
call, Martian will revert back to the default Sound Profile setting.
To mute your Martian microphone during an active call, press and hold the bottom button until
the word “Mute” appears on the OLED display. The LED will change from green flashes to
alternating green and red flashes until you press and hold the bottom button to un-mute.
Disconnecting your Watch During an Active Call:
To disconnect your Martian (while keeping the call active) or switch audio to another device (e.g.
a paired headset) during an active call, use your phone’s menu to make your choice, or tap and
release both buttons on the side of the Watch (this turns the Watch off, so if you do this make
sure to press both buttons again after you complete your call to turn Martian back on!).
Text messages, Emails and Notifications
Incoming:
When you receive a text message, the Watch vibrates, the blue light flashes, and the name or
number of the caller is displayed on the OLED, followed by the first 18 characters of the
message, which scrolls across the screen.
If you have Voice Command, you can also tap the top button, and after you hear your Voice
Command’s “beep”, command “read text” to have your text message read to you.
When you receive a social media notification (must be enabled via Martian app), the Watch
vibrates, the blue light flashes, and the first 20 characters of the notification message scroll
across the screen.
When you receive an email notification (must be enabled via Martian app), the Watch vibrates,
the blue light flashes, and the OLED displays the message “<your email> has XX unread
emails”.
To reject any incoming notification, press the bottom button.
To create or reply to a text, or set a reminder:
Press and release the top button. The green light will flash to acknowledge your request. Wait
until you hear your Voice Command’s “beep”, then interact with Voice Command as you would
from your phone.

Outgoing:
You can create outgoing texts and emails and set reminders from your MARTIAN WATCH if you
have Voice Command on your cell phone. See your phone’s Voice Command instructions for the
specific commands to use. For example, with iPhone 4S, you can command “Send Text to
<name of recipient>, <message>”.
Enabling/Disabling A2DP for Music
A2DP controls whether your music comes through your cell phone or Bluetooth® device
(MARTIAN WATCH, headset, etc.).
Android: You can choose to enable or disable A2DP in your phone’s settings. Refer to
your phone’s user manual for location.
iPhone: If Martian is connected, when you are playing music an icon appears to the right
of the “play” bar on the bottom of the Music screen on your phone. Tap the icon to switch
from Martian to phone and back.
MARTIAN LEASH
If you turn your Martian Leash option on, you will receive a notification when you leave the
Bluetooth range of your cell phone while wearing your connected MARTIAN. The Watch will
vibrate, the red light will flash 3 times, and the OLED will display “Out of Range”. If you have
not returned to within range in 5 minutes, you will receive a second message that says “Out of
Range for 5 Min”.
When you are out of range, the Watch attempts to connect every 1 minute for the first 5 minutes,
then every 3 minutes after that. If you are back in range, you can manually reconnect your Watch
by pressing any button if you don’t wish to wait for it to automatically re-connect.
Gesture Controls
If you turn your Gesture Controls option on, you can decline an incoming call by lifting your
arm straight up and turning your wrist quickly back and forth from side to side. More gesture
controls will be released in future updates.

TROUBLESHOOTING

MARTIAN WATCH turns off unprompted:
The battery level is too low. Charge your battery.
Pairing has failed. Follow instructions to turn on and pair your MARTIAN.
Text message notification/display not working:
Visit the “technical specs” page for your phone on either your phone carrier’s or phone
manufacturer’s web site to see if your phone has an MAP profile. Some phones do not
support the MAP profile (for iPhone 4S, 4, and 3GS, the MAP profile will be available
upon download of Apple iOS 6).
Red battery light doesn’t turn on when Watch is plugged in to charger:
Make sure the mini-USB connector is securely seated in the Watch’s port, and the USB
adapter is connected to a working power outlet or the USB port of a computer that is
charged and turned on.
Watch doesn’t reconnect to phone after returning into range:
The Watch attempts to connect every 1 minute for the first 5 minutes you are out of
range, and every 3 minutes after that. Press any button on your Watch to reconnect
manually.
If your phone settings have an option to “always allow” or “always ask”, check to make
sure you chose the “always allow” option. If you chose “always ask”, press this button
when prompted by your phone.
Verify you are in range by pressing the bottom button to view the status bar – the icon
will appear if the Watch is in range of the phone. Note: Solid obstacles reduce the range
of the Watch.
Check to see if your Watch has disconnected from the phone. If so, re-pair Watch to
phone following instructions in the Pairing section above.
On Android phone, Caller ID shows Address Book names for texts, but it only shows phone
number for incoming calls.
Caller ID for incoming calls comes from the phone itself, so the phone dictates whether
you see the Address Book name or only the phone number. For texts, if your Android
phone doesn’t support the Bluetooth MAP profile, caller ID comes through the MARTIAN
App. Since the App connects to your Address Book, it allows you to receive the caller’s
name on your Watch.
When speaking to someone on MARTIAN, the person on the receiving end experiences your voice
“cutting in and out”.
The background noise on the receiving end may be too loud, so MARTIAN can’t
differentiate between the person’s voice and the background noise. This causes
MARTIAN’S microphone to think the person is speaking, which in turn cuts off your
speech.
Master Reset

To reset your MARTIAN, plug the USB cable into the side of the Watch and immediately unplug it
again.

Reading Texts While Driving
Reading incoming texts on your MARTIAN WATCH while driving is not recommended, and may
be illegal in your state. Please refer to your state laws for further information.
Battery Use & Safety
The following battery use and safety information applies to all MARTIAN WATCHES.

Important: Handle and store batteries properly to avoid injury or damage. Most battery
issues arise from improper handling of batteries, and particularly from the continued use of
damaged batteries.
 Don’t attempt to remove or change the MARTIAN WATCH battery. This should only be
done by an authorized MARTIAN WATCHES representative.
 Don’t disassemble, crush, puncture, shred, or otherwise attempt to change the form of
your MARTIAN or its battery.
 Avoid liquids, including water. Liquids can get into your MARTIAN’s circuits,
leading to corrosion.
 Keep your MARTIAN WATCH away from heat sources. High temperatures can cause the
battery to swell, leak, or malfunction.
 Always keep the mini-USB cover closed when not in use to help keep water from getting
in.
 If your MARTIAN gets wet, don’t attempt to dry it with any heat source, such as a hair
dryer or microwave oven. Allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.
 Don’t leave your MARTIAN in your car – high temperatures may cause malfunction.
 Avoid dropping your MARTIAN. Dropping it can potentially cause damage.
 Contact a MARTIAN WATCHES representative if your MARTIAN or its battery has been
damaged due to a drop, liquid exposure or high temperatures.
Warning: Use of an unauthorized battery may present a risk of explosion, fire, leakage, or other
hazard.
Disposal: Dispose of your MARTIAN WATCH in accordance with local regulations for used
batteries. Contact your local recycling center or national recycling organizations for more
information on how to dispose of batteries.
Warning: Never dispose of batteries in a fire because they may explode.
Battery Charging
Notes for charging your MARTIAN’s battery:
 During charging, keep your MARTIAN WATCH and charging cable at room temperature for
efficient battery charging.
 When you receive your MARTIAN WATCH, the battery is not fully charged.
 MARTIAN WATCHES have circuitry that protects the battery from damage from
overcharging; however, for longest life, we recommend that you remove your MARTIAN from
the charging cable as soon is the battery indicator shows “full”.
Third Party Accessories
MARTIAN WATCHES is not responsible for any third-party accessories that may impact your
MARTIAN’s performance, including but not limited to charging cables and power adapters. Poor

quality and improper use of third-party accessories can be dangerous and may void your
MARTIAN’s warranty.
Children
Keep your MARTIAN WATCH away from small children. They are not toys and may be
hazardous to small children. For example:
 A choking hazard may exist for small, detachable parts such as the USB cover.
 Improper use could result in loud sounds, possibly causing hearing injury.
Similar to a computer, if a child does use your MARTIAN, you may want to monitor their access
to help prevent exposure to inappropriate apps or content.

The crystal of your MARTIAN is made of glass. This glass could break upon substantial impact. If
the glass breaks, do not touch or attempt to remove. Stop using your MARTIAN and contact a
MARTIAN WATCHES representative to have the glass replaced.
Potentially Explosive Atmospheres
Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres are often, but not always, posted and can include
fueling areas, such as below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, or
areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain dust, or metal powders.
When you are in such an area, turn off your MARTIAN, and do not remove the back cover. In
such areas, sparks can occur and cause an explosion or fire.
Radio Frequency (RF) Energy
Your MARTIAN contains a Bluetooth transmitter and receiver. When this feature is in use, it
receives and transmits RF energy. Your MARTIAN is designed to comply with local regulatory
requirements in your country concerning exposure of human beings to RF energy.
Nearly every electronic device is subject to RF energy interference from external sources if
inadequately shielded, designed, or otherwise configured for RF energy compatibility. In some
circumstances, your MARTIAN may cause interference with other devices.
Turn off your MARTIAN in any location where posted notices instruct you to do so.
In an aircraft, turn off your MARTIAN whenever instructed to do so by airline staff.
If you have an implantable medical device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, consult
your physician before using MARTIAN.
