1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
iFALL is a mobile telecare device with an automatic fall detection system, voice/data
communication capabilities and GPS positioning. It is worn at waist level being operative both
indoor and outdoor.
The fall detector is based on a patented algorithm (activated when the device is worn) that
monitors constantly the status of the user and it has a panic button to send emergency alarms.
The device integrates a GPS module in order to locate the user at any moment and a
GSM/GPRS modem to communicate with a call-centre or a caregiver.
It is advisable to use the device during the day and take it off for charging during the night.
2. FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATION
2.1. User interface
Device and components:
1.- Green LED: indicates device status.
Starting (seeking coverage): blinking fast (0.25sg ON / 0.25sg OFF).
ON & non-worn (0.5s ON / 2.5s OFF).
ON & worn: fixed ON.
ON & worn & sleeping: turned OFF.
2.- Microphone for the “hands-free” system.
3.- Orange LED: indicates battery status.
Normal: turned OFF.
Low battery: blinking slowly (0.5s ON / 2.5s OFF).
Very low battery: blinking fast (0.25sg ON / 0.25sg OFF).
Charging: fixed ON.
4.- Clip: the rear clip allows to wear the device at waist level and it has a detector in order to
alert if the user carries it or takes it off. If the user is not wearing the device, it is generated a
tone (twice a day and never at night) reminding that the device must be worn.
5.- Charger connector: here we connect the battery charger supplied together with the device to
charge the battery.

4
www.masermic.com
6.- Speaker for the “hands-free” system.
7.- Panic button: it can be used to alert about an emergency (short press), cancel an alarm
when pre-alarm mode (long press) or switch the device ON the first time from BIRTH mode.
8.- Red LED: indicates ALARM mode.
First 10 seconds: blinking fast (0.25sg ON / 0.25sg OFF).
After 10 seconds: blinking slowly (0.5s ON / 2.5s OFF).
Note 1
When the device is turned ON/OFF the LEDs make a SPLASH (1 second blinking green + red +
orange).
Operation mode:
OFF –device not in operation.
ON –device in operation.
ALARM - alarm state by a fall detection or a panic emergency.
2.2. ON/OFF
The device turns ON by any of the following ways:
Pressing the panic button (short press).
Turns ON and enters the ALARM mode.
Opening the clip for 2 seconds.
Turns on in standard (not alarm) mode.
Keeps turned ON even if the clip is closed after the 2 seconds.
Unplugging the device from the charger after being charged.
Turns on in standard mode.
The device turns OFF in three different ways:
Automatically: when the battery is depleted or the device is connected to the charger.
Manually: using the option “SHUTDOWN DEVICE” of the App iFALLLDET-C.
For safety reasons, the device cannot be turned OFF when in ALARM mode or when it is
WORN unless the battery is depleted.
Note 1
The device implements a “BIRTH” state (or deep-off state) for storage/shipping, so there is a
special initial turning ON feature. In this case the button must be pressed for ~10 seconds in
order to activate the device.
2.3. Automatic fall detection functionality
The fall detection algorithm is only activated when the user wears the device. When a fall is
detected the device enters the ALARM mode.
Use in bed: The fall detection is deactivated when using the device in bed. The system
deactivates it when a lying position is detected and activates it back when a standing position is
detected.

2.4. Panic button functionality
When the user presses the panic button the device enters the ALARM mode, even in the case
the device is turned off (provided that the battery voltage level is sufficient).
2.5. Alarm mode management
When the device enters the ALARM mode.
1.- Alarm cancellation (optional): during the first 10 seconds the user can cancel the alarm by
pressing the red button (panic button) for at least 2 seconds. During this pre-alarm mode the
device vibrates. It is possible to deactivate this functionality using the App (see section
ADVANCED configuration tab).
2.- After the pre-alarm period of 10 seconds, the generated alarm is sent periodically via
SMS/GPRS.
3.- The alarm is only cancelled with:
a. A call received on the iFALL device.
b. A specific SMS command for cancellation.
c. A maximum number of messages have been reached (optional).
d. At the press of the panic button for 2 seconds.
4.- If the alarm is not cancelled, the system keeps sending messages every 3 minutes.
2.6. Call functionality
The incoming call is automatically picked up in hands-free mode. The user cannot start a call,
but can request it at the press of the panic button.
The incoming call decides when to end the communication and has always priority over
outgoing messages.
2.7. Battery charging
The device will indicate “low battery” to the user and the call center when the remaining
operation time is less than 4 hours of standard use.
The device will indicate “very low battery” to the user and the call center when the remaining
operation time is less than 1 hour of standard use.
The device will indicate finally “depleted battery” to the user and the call center when the battery
level is not enough to maintain the device in operation.
The charge process is automatic, the process starts when the charger is plugged into the device
and it stops when battery is completely charged or the user unplugs the charger. Complete
charging process takes 2 ~ 2.5 hours.
2.8. GPS location features
The GPS fixes the position every 5 minutes. In case of ALARM this position is updated and
included in the alarm messages. The GPS position can be requested at any time by sending a
SMS command or using the App iFALLDET-C.
The device can provide a security perimeter from which send alarm messages.

device automatically downloads the new firmware as long as this does not interfere its normal
functioning. The firmware new version will be installed when the device be connected to the
charger and switched off.

10
www.masermic.com
Note 1
When an alarm critical event is generated the following procedure will be carried out:
1. As soon as the event is detected, an alarm message with the last GPS position stored
in the internal memory will be sent.
2. Should not be any stored position or be this very old the system indicates “No valid GPS
position”.
3. At the same time the GPS module will be activated trying to fix a position. If after 5
minutes no position is fixed, it will be turned off assuming that the user is indoor or with
bad GPS coverage, and that it will be very difficult to fix a position.
Note 2
In this case the GPS module will be in operation even if a critical event has not arisen. In order
to save battery every 5 minutes the GPS will be turned on up to a minute (less if it fixes a
position in less time, not more to save battery because the user could be in a position with no
GPS coverage). Once acquired a GPS position it will be stored in the internal memory and
when requested this last position will be sent.
Note 3
In these three cases the device could be turned off. In that case these messages will be sent
transparently to the user without turning on the user interface. The rest of the alarm or info
messages will not be sent while the device is turned off.
Note 4
The device is turned off in the three ways mentioned above (when turning off the three LEDs
and vibrator will flash and after this all the user interface will be disabled) but with the difference
that transparently to the user the GSM module will be kept running while sending the SMS and
turned off after that.
