4 Working with the Discman
4.1 Connecting to the power supply
For an optimum workplace layout, route the power cable
down from the ceiling.
4.2 Before commissioning
Before you start working, remove the locking bolt and the Allen key from the device!
4.3 Grinding angle setting
To set the grinding angle, release screw [1].
Turn the angle adjuster [2] manually to the desired position.
Turning by one number is equivalent to changing the angle by one
degree. The angle adjuster latches every 0.5 degrees.
Hand-tighten the screw [1] with an Allen key.
1
3.5 = 86.5°
0 = 90°
2

30 Discman 2 / 230 V
Only hand-tighten the screw [1] with the Allen key!
4.4 Fitting angle wheel 87°/88°(optional)
The angle wheel can be fitted optionally instead of the angle adjuster. This helps the Discman to glide more smoothly over
the dressed surface. These angle wheels are only available for edge angles of 87° and 88°.
1) Shim ring
2) Position the angle wheel with label pointing to the Discman.
3) Screw
Fit and tighten the parts in this order.
4.5 Grinding disc feed
Turning the knurled nut in PLUS direction [1] moves the
grinding disc towards the steel edge to be ground.

4.6 Replacing a grinding disc
1) With the device switched on, turn the knurled nut to the stop in
MINUS direction.
2) Disconnect the Discman from the power supply.
3) Remove the angle adjuster and screw.
4) Remove the protective cap from the drill hole.
Insert the positioning bolt into the drill hole.
5) Insert the Allen key through the hole in the angle adjuster into the
clamping screw.
6) Turn the grinding disc until the positioning bolt latches into place.
7) Release the grinding disc clamping screws and remove.
8) Remove the grinding disc and support card and clean the guide
sleeve with a brush.
Do not use compressed air!
9) Push on a new grinding disc with support carton and hand-tighten
the clamping screw. Check the grinding disc for correct seating.
10) Remove the positioning bolt.
Then replace the protective cap.
11) Adjusting the grinding angle (see chapt. 4.3 Grinding angle setting,
page 29).
Only hand-tighten the screw with the Allen key!
4.7 Changing the slide blocks
1) Push out the slide blocks on the left and right with a screwdriver.

2) Push in the new slide blocks until they are flush with the housing.
Whenever you change an abrasive disc, you should also replace the sliding bocks to guarantee grinding of
precise edge angles.

3) Attach the spring clip to the first ventilation slot on one side as shown
in the figure, then push the spring clip onto the other side until the
spring clip latches into place on the other side.
4) Push on the support plate as shown and fasten the screws.
4.8.2 Adjusting the angle on the attachment
1) The notch shows the support plate angle on the scale.
Make sure that the screws are fastened after completing
setting work.
The deviation of the angle setting can be up to 0.5°.
Check the grinding angle.
Check the grinding results on disused skis or snowboards.
We accept no responsibility for operator error during
grinding!
When grinding the base edge, clamp the ski tightly and make sure that
the Discman can slide freely (ski tightener, ski brake).

36 Discman 2 / 230 V
Please read these operating instructions, and in particular chapt. 2.1 Safety information, page 25 carefully
before using the Discman!
Before grinding, check the sliding blocks for wear and tight seating; replace if needed!
If the grinding disc is applied too heavily there is a risk of excessive heat development!
Always grind side edges before waxing to avoid wax clogging the grinding disc!
Before grinding use a side plane to remove protruding materials from the side edges!
Before lowering the edge tuning device onto a piece of winter sports
equipment, make sure that the grinding disc does not protrude
beyond the slide blocks to avoid the Discman grinding the steel
edge in an uncontrolled manner when switched on.
Lower the Discman onto the ski or snowboard with the slide blocks
and angle adjuster and push against the ski or snowboard with slight
pressure.
Switch on the edge tuning device and turn the knurled nut counter-
clockwise until you see sparks appear.
Switch off the Discman, lift off the ski and check the grinding angle
again.
Again lower the edge tuner onto the ski or snowboard with the slide
blocks and angle adjuster and push against the ski or snowboard
with slight pressure.
After switching on the Discman move the device manually from one
end of the ski or snowboard to the other.
During grinding, you can turn the knurled nut to move in the grinding
stone in case of insufficient material removal, or move out the
grinding stone in case of excessive material removal.
In working position the Discman is in stable state of balance; due to
this ergonomic handling, no force is required to move the edge
tuner; instead apply slight contact pressure and push or pull gently.

Discman 2 / 230 V 37
When tuning the base edge, place your hand on the base edge
tuning attachment as shown to ensure that the base edged is
ground evenly.
Make sure that the Discman does not tilt when tuning the
base edge!
Ensure that the ventilation grilles are not covered during
grinding!
The slower you move the device forward, the finer the surface!
After each ski or snowboard change, you must switch off the edge tuner and turn back the grinding disc
with the knurled nut (in direction) so that the Discman does not grind the steel edge in an un-
controlled way when switched on.
For consistently good tuning quality, always remove the swarf that occurs after base edge grinding!
