Youmayheardifferencesinbalancefrom
onerecordtoanotherorfromonetapeto
another.Somerecordsortapesmaybe
recordedwithslightdifferencesbetween
channels.Thedifferencescanbecorrected
withtheBALANCEcontrolonthefrontpanel.
Ifthedifferenceisheardoneveryrecord,
thenthecartridgemayhavea verysmall
differenceinoutput.

HFCutoffFilter.Ifyouwishtoreproduce
old,badlywornrecords,youcanminimize
thesurfacenoisebyswitchingtheHFcutoff

LFRumbleFilter.Ifyouareusinga turn-
tableorchangerwhichhaslow-frequency
rumblenoise,youmayreduceitbypushing

BassControlsandTrebleControls.The
tonebalancewhichyouhearwhenlistening
toanorchestraisaffectedbytheconductor's
instructionstohismusicians,theacoustical
environmentm whichyouarelistening,and
yourownsubjectivehearinginterpretation.
Consideringtheseconditions,itiseasytosee
whytonebalancecontrolsplaya majorrolein
correctingforthefollowingfactors:
1.Eachperson'ssubjectiveideaoftone
balance.
2.Loudspeakerfrequencyresponsechar-
acteristics.
3.Loudspeakerplacementinthelisten-
ingroom.
4.Theconductor'sideaoftonebalance
atthetimetherecordingwasmade.
5.Themicrophonefrequencyresponse
characteristics.
6.Therecordingprocessinfluences.
Thesefactorscanbeconsideredasen-
vironmentalinfluences.TheBASScontrols
andTREBLEcontrolsaredesignedtoprovide
adegreeofcompensationforeffectsof
environment.Listentoyoursystemwith
eachcontrolsetwiththeindicatorscentered
betweenthepanelmarkings• L and° R.If
youwishtoreducetrebleinrelationtobass,
turntheTREBLEcontrolscounterclockwise
untilthetonebalancesoundscorrecttoyou.
Thesecontrolswillmodifytonebalancewith-
outintroducinganyundesirableeffects.Do
notbesurprisedifyoufindyourpreference
intonechangingfromtimetotime.
Loudness.Duetoa selectiveshiftinsen-
sitivityofhumanhearing,musicreproduced
atverylowvolumelosesitsbassandtreble.
TheLOUDswitchontheMX110changes
theVOLUMEcontroltoa loudnesscom-
pensatedcontroltocorrectforthiseffect.
Whenyouwishtolistentomusicata greatly
reducedloudnesslevelandyethearbassand
treble,settheLOUDswitchtotheINposition.
Phase.Ifthestereosoundseemstocome
fromeithersideoftheroominsteadofbeing
distributedbetweentheloudspeakers,adjust
thePHASEcontrolto180°.Thislistening
effectisduetoreproducingsoundthatis
outofphasefromonechanneltotheother.
Youwillfindsomerecordsdifferfromothers
inthisrespectandthatsometapesdiffer
fromrecords.
