2.2Usage&areasofuse
Thepushbuttoncontainsofalmostallofthefunctionsofthebinaryinput.Itisdesignedforflush
mounting.Byapushingabuttonthepushbuttoncancallparameterizedfunctionslikedimmingor
callwholescenes.
Theplusvariantcontainsadditionalofupto8bicoloredLEDsfortherespectivebuttonsanda
bicoloredorientationLEDanda4logicblocks.TheLEDScanbeparameterizedindividually.
2.4Structure&Handling
Thepushbuttoncontains,dependingonthedesign,of2to8buttons,whichcanbeparameterized
individually.AdditionalLEDsexistsattheplusvariant.Thebuscanbeconnectedatthebackofthe
pushbuttons.Furthermoreallpushbuttonscontainsofthestandardelementsprogrammingbutton
andprogrammingLEDatthesideofthepushbuttons.

Thepushbuttonscontainsofaninvisiblecoverplate,whichisincludedatthedeliveryofthepush
buttons.Thiscoverplateisfortheprotectionofthelabeling.Whenthelabelingwasinserted,the
coverplatecanbeinstalled.Thecoverplatehastwolugsateveryside,whichmustengageinthe
intendedexecutions.Fortheinstallationofthecoverplate,onesideisinsertedintotheexecution.
Nowyoumustcurvethecoverplateabit,sothesecondlugfitsintotheexecution.Thecoverplate
shouldbeinstalledwiththeplainsideup.
Thereare2opportunitiesforthelabelingofthepushbuttons.Whenthepushbuttonisnottobe
labeled,agreyinsertplateisincluded,whichcanbeinsertedbehindtheinvisiblecoverplate.Ifyou
wanttolabelthepushbutton,youwillfindafreepatterninthedownloadsectionatourhomepage
www.mdtautomation.de.Thiscopypatterncanbeadaptedtoyourparameterizationandinserted
behindtheclearcoverplatewithoutthegreyinsertplate.
Fordismantlingthecoverplate,onebuttonispushed.Nowyoucanliftthecoverplatebestwitha
pointyobject.Sothecoverplatejumpsoutofitsexecutionandcanberemoved.
2.5Functions
Thefunctionalityisidenticalforeverychannel.Thedevicecontainsof2,4,6or8buttonsbasedon
thehardwaredesign.
Thedesignationofthechannelsisalwaysinaconsecutivealphabeticorder.
Therearethreepossiblefunctionalitiesforeachchannel:
Disabled
Nofunctionissettothechannel,sothischanneldoesnotcontainofanycommunicationobjects.
Channelsgrouped
Ifyouselectapairofchannelas“channelsgrouped”,youwillbeabletoparameterizethepairof
channelsasdimming‐function,shutter‐functionorswitching‐function.
Channelsunique
Ifyouselectapairofchannelsas“channelsunique”,youwillbeabletoparameterizeeachchannel
foritselfasswitch,counter,scene,switchshort/long,onebuttondimmingoronebuttonshutter.
Attheplusvariant,thereareadditional4logicfunctions(and/or)containingofuptotwoadditional
inputobjects.FurthermoretheplusvariantcontainsofonebicoloredLEDperchannel,whichare
individualparameterizeable,andonebicoloredoperatingLED.

3.1Communicationobjectsperchannel
Thecommunicationobjectsappearforeverychannelindependenceoftherespective
parameterization.10numbers(0‐9,10‐19,…)forcommunicationobjectsareautomaticallyassigned
foreverypairofchannels.Thenumerationisconsecutive,sothechannelpairA/Bcanonlyhavethe
numbersfrom0to9,thesameiftheyparameterizedasgroupedchannelsoruniquechannels.With
everyfollowingchannelpairthenumbersoftheobjectsincreaseby10,evenifachannelpairis
disabled.Ifyouchooseachannelpairasunique,thechannel,whichisfirstinthealphabet,will
becomethefirst5numbersandtheotheronewillbecomethefollowingfivenumbers(e.g.channel
A‐‐>0‐4andchannelB‐‐>5‐9).Thenumerationofthechannelsisalwaysthesame,evenifsome
channelsaredisabled.
Attheplusvariant,thereareadditionalobjectsfortheLEDsandthelogicblocks.Thecommunication
objectsforthelogicfollowontheobjectsforthechannels.Thereareupto12objectsforthelogic
function,so12numbersarereservedforthelogicfunction,e.g.thenumbersfrom40to51atan8‐
foldpushbutton.ThecommunicationobjectsfortheLEDsstartconsequentlywiththefirstnumbers
afterthelogicblocks.Accordingtotheparameterization,onecommunicationobjectperLEDcanbe

1. Allpushbuttonshaveafixeddebouncingtime,whichcannotbechangedbytheuser.The
debouncetimeisadjustedin‐planttothepushbuttons.
1. Theparameter“Timeforkeystrokelong”allocatesastaticvaluetothepushbuttonfrom
whenalongkeystrokeisrecognized.Thisparameterisimportantforfunctions,whichhave
differentfunctionsforalongandashortkeystroke.
2. Thelimitationoftelegramscanachievethatthebusgetsnotoverloaded.Anoverloading
ofthebus‐systemcancauselongwaitingperiods,e.g.atpushingabutton.Ifthelimitation
oftelegramsisactivatedandmoretelegramsthanallowedaresend,thetelegramsabove
thelimitationwillbesendatthenexttimeinterval.Thereforeanoverloadofthebuscan
beprevented.
3. Theparameter“Behavioratbuspowerup”definesthebehaviorofthepushbuttonata
buspowerreturn.Thesetting“Readvaluefortoggle”effectsthatallcommunication
objects“valuefortoggle”areread.Sothepushbuttonknowsthecurrentstatusofthe
objects.Ifyouchoosethesetting“noreadvaluefortoggle”,thepushbuttonwillnotknow
thecurrentstatusoftheactor.Sothepushbuttonassumesanunconfirmedvalueforthe
objects“valuefortoggle”andsendsalwaysa“0”‐signalatthenextoperation.Onlynow
thepushbuttonknowsthestatusoftheactorandcansendtherightvalues.Butifyou
choosethereadofthesevaluesatabuspowerup,thepushbuttonwillsendimmediately
therightvaluefortoggling.

Thedualsurfacedimmingfunction(channelsgrouped)isforcontrollingdimmingactuatorsbystart‐
stopdimmingcommands.

Whenapairofchannelsisparameterizedasdimmingfunction,twoobjectsareshown.Oneobject
reactstoashortkeystroke,theswitchingobject“Dimmingon/off”,andtheotherobjectreactstoa
longkeystroke,thedimmingobject“dimming”.
Itispossibletoparameterizethisfunctionasbrighter/darkerorasdarker/brighter.Thefirstfunction
belongsalwaystothefirstbutton.Ifyouswitchthisparameter,thefunctionwillbeswitched
automatically.
Bychoosingthedimmingfunction(channelA/B)asbrighter/darker,thefunctionreactsinthisway:
AshortkeystrokeatbuttonAswitchesthelightson.Thelightsareswitchedoffbyashortkeystroke
atbuttonB.Alongkeystrokedimsthelightsstepbystepuntilreleasingthelongkeystroke.Thelights
aredimmedbrighteratbuttonAanddarkeratbuttonB.Thepushbuttonstartsalwayswiththelast
brightnesslevel,beforeswitchingoff.
Thestepsizeissetfixedto100%atthedualsurfacedimming.Itisastart‐stopdimming.thatmeans
thelightsaredimmedaslongasyouholdthebutton.Afterreleasingthebuttonastopvalueissent,
whichstopsthedimmingprocess.Soyoucandimthelightswithonlyonekeystrokefrom0%to
100%orfrom100%to0%,bypushingthebuttonlongenough.

Everyshutteractuatorcontrolswitha0‐signaltheup‐movementandwitha1‐signalthedown
movement.Sothepushbuttonsendsthesesignalstothecorrespondingdrivingcommands.
