Grill Installation Codes
Thisgasgrill mustbe installedin accordancewith
alllocal codes. Inareaswithout localcodes,
follow the latestedition oftheNational Fuel Gas
CodeANSI Z223.1. InCanada,installation must
conformtostandard CAN/CGA 1b149.1or 1-
b149.2(Installation Code forGasBurning Appli-
ancesand Equipment)and all localcodes.
Correct LP Gas Tank Use
LP gasgrillmodels aredesignedfor usewith a
standard 20lb. Liquid Propane Gas(LP gas)
tank,not includedwith grill box. Never connect
yourgasgrillto an LP gastankthat exceeds
thiscapacity.Atankofapproximately12 inches
in diameter by18-1/2 incheshigh isthemaxi-
mumsizeLPgas tanktouse. Youmustuse
an"OPD" gastankwhich offers anOverfill
PreventionDevice. Thissafetyfeature prevents
thetankfrombeingoverfilled which cancause
malfunction oftheLPgas tank,Regulator and/or
grill.
TheLP gastankmust be constructed and
marked in accordance with specifications ofthe
U.S.Dept. ofTransportation(DOT).In Canada, the
LP gastankmust meet the Canadian Transporta-
tion and Communications(CTC)specifications.
Also besure toreadandfollow all LP instruc-
tionson the followingpage.

Never connect an unregulated LP gas tankto
your gas grill. The gas Regulator assembly
supplied with your gas grill is adjusted to have
an outlet pressure of11" water column(W.C.)
for connection to an LP gas tank.
Onlyuse the Regulator and Hose Assembly
supplied with your gas grill. Replacement
Regulators and Hose Assemblies must be
those specified bymanufacturer.
Have your LP gas tankfilled byareputable
propane gas dealer; visuallyinspected and re-
qualified at each filling.
Never fill the gas tankbeyond 80% full.
Have your propane gas dealer checkthe
release valve after everyfilling to ensure that
it remains free ofdefects.
Alwayskeep LP gas tanksin an upright
position.
Do not store (or use) gasoline or other flammable
vapors and liquids in the vicinityofthis gas grill.
An LP gas tankthat is not connected for use must
NOTbe stored inside cabinetry or in the vicinity of
this or anyother gas grill.
Do not subject the LP gastankto excessiveheat.
Neverstorean LP gastankindoors.Ifyou
storeyourgasgrillin the garage orother
indoorlocation, always disconnecttheLP gas
tankfirstand store it safelyoutside.
When your gas grill is not in use the gas
must be turned off at the LP gas tank.
Proper Placement and Clearance of Grill
Never use your gas grill in agarage, porch, shed,
breezewayor anyother enclosed area. Your gas grill
is to be used outdoors only,at least 21 inches from
the back and side of anycombustible surface.
Your gas grill should not be placed under any
surface that will burn. Do not obstruct the flow of
ventilation air around the gas grill housing.
This outdoor gas grill is not intended to be installed in
or on recreational vehicles and/or boats.
The LP gas tankhas aShut Off Valve,
terminating in an LP gas supplytankvalve
outlet, that is compatible with aType 1tank
connection device. The LP gas tankmust
also have asafetyreliefdevice that has a
direct communication with the vapor space of
the tank.
The tanksupplysystemmust be arranged
for vapor withdrawal.
The LP gas tankused must have acollar
to protect the tankvalve.

The Regulator and Hose Assemblymust be
inspected before each use ofthe grill. If
there is excess abrasion or wear or ifthe
hose is cut, it must be replaced prior to the
grill being used again.
Keep the gas Regulator Hose awayfromhot
grill surfaces and dripping grease. Avoid
unnecessarytwisting ofhose. Visuallyinspect
the Regulator and Hose prior to each use for
cuts, cracks, excessive wear or other damage.
Ifthe Hose appears damaged do not use the
gas grill. Call our Grill Information Center for a
replacement, at 1-800-770-9769.
Never light your gas grill with the Lid closed
or before checking to insure the Burner Tubes
are fullyseated over the gas valve orifices.
Never allowchildren to operate your grill. Do
not allowchildren to playnear your grill.
LP gas tanksmust be stored outdoors out of
the reach ofchildren and must not be stored
in abuilding, garage or anyother enclosed
area.

Astrong gas smell, or the hissing sound of
gas indicates aserious problemwith your
gas grill or the LP gas tank.Failure to
immediatelyfollowthe steps listed below

NOTE: The normal flowofgas through the
Regulator and Hose Assemblycan create a
humming sound. Alowvolumeofsound is
perfectlynormal and will not interfere with
operation ofthe grill. Ifhumming sound is
loud and excessive you mayneed to purge
air fromthe gas line or reset the Regulator
excess gas flowdevice. This purging proce-
dure should be done everytimeanewLP
gas tankis connected to your grill. For help

Your Natural Gas Grill is designed to operate on
Natural Gas only,at apressure of7" water column
(W.C.) (1/4 psi or 1.75 kpa), regulated at the
residential meter. Checkwith your gas utility
companyfor local gas pressure and with your local
municipalityforbuildingcode requirements. Ifyour
residential gas line pressure has not been
regulated to 7" W.C., contact your local gas utility
companyforprofessionalassistance.
The gaspressure Regulator supplied with this
appliance must be used. This Regulator is
set for anoutlet pressure of4" W.C.
ItisrecommendedthataShutOff Valvebeinstalled
at the gas supplysource outdoors. Install at apoint
afterthegaspipeexitstheoutsidewallandbeforethe
QuickDisconnect Hose, or install it at the point
before thegas line piping entersthe ground.See
Figure1.
Pipesealingcompoundorpipethreadtaperesistant
totheactionofNaturalGasmustbeusedonallmale
pipe threads when making the connection.
Disconnect yourgas grill fromfuelsource when
the gas supplyis being tested at high pressures.
This gas grill and its individual Shut Off Valve must
be disconnected fromthe gas supply pipe system
during anypressure testing ofthat systemat
pressure in excess of1/2 psi (3.5kpa).
Turnoff your gasgrill whenthegassupply is
testedatlowpressures.Thegrill must beisolated
fromthe gas supplypipesystembyclosingits
individualManualShutOffValveduringany
pressure testingofthegas supplypipe systemat
pressuresequalto orlessthan1/2psi(3.5kpa).
TheQuickDisconnectconnectstoa3/8inchNPT
threadfromgassource.TheQuickDisconnect
fittingis ahandoperateddevicethatautomatically
shutsoffthetheflowof gasfromthesource when
it is disconnected.
TheQuickDisconnectfitting canbeinstalled
horizontally,orpointingdownward.DONOT install
thefittingwiththe openingpointing upward
becausethefittingcould collectwater anddebris.
TheDustCovers(plasticplugs)providedwiththe
Quick Disconnecthelpkeeptheopen ends
cleanwhiledisconnected.
Theoutdoorconnectormustbe firmly attachedto
aridgedpermanentconstruction.

Ifthe length ofline required does not exceed 50 feet,
use a5/8" O.D. tube. One sizelarger should be used
forlengths greater than 50feet.
Gas piping maybe copper tubing, type Kor L;
polyethylene plastic tube, with aminimumwall
thickness of.062 inch; or standard weight (schedule
40) steel orwrought iron pipe.
Copper tubing must be tin-lined ifthe gas contains
morethan0.3 gramsofhydrogen sulfide per 100
cubic feet ofgas.
Plastic tubing is suitable only for outdoor, under-
grounduse.
Gas piping in contact with earth, or any other mate-
rial which may corrode the piping, must be protected
againstcorrosioninanapprovedmanner.
Underground pipingmust haveaminimumof18"
cover.
All connections and joints must be thoroughly tested
for leaksin accordance with local codes and all listed
procedures inthe latest edition ofANSI Z223.1

Natural Gas Safety Instructions
Do not use an open flame to check for
gas leaks. Be sure there are no sparks
or open flames in the area while you
check for gas leaks. This will result in a
fire or explosion which can cause serious
bodilyinjuryor death, and damage to
property.

CAUTION: Spiders and small insects occa-
sionallyspin webs or makenests in the
grill Burner Tubes during transit and ware-
housing. These webs can lead to agas flow
obstruction which could result in afire in
and around the Burner Tubes. This type of
fire is knownas a"FLASH-BACK" and can
cause serious damage to your grill and
create an unsafeoperating condition for the
user.
Although an obstructed Burner Tube is not
the onlycause of"FLASH-BACK", it is the
most common cause.
Toreduce the chance of"FLASH-BACK",
you must clean the Burner Tubes before
assembling your grill, and at least once a
month in late summer or earlyfall when
spiders are most active. Also performthis
Burner Tube cleaning procedure ifyour grill
has not been used for an extended period
oftime.
CAUTION:BEWARE OF FLASH-BACK
Toreduce the chance of"FLASH-BACK" (see
CAUTION at left) clean the Burner Tubes and
Burners before fullyassembling your grill. Re-
move the Cotter Pin fromthe rear underside of
each Burner using apair oflong nose pliers.
Carefullylifteach Burner up and awayfromthe
Gas Valve Orifice, then refer to Figure 1 and
performone ofthese three cleaning methods:

Bend astiff wire, (a lightweight coat hanger
workswell) into asmall hookas shownbelow.
Run the hookthrough the Burner Tube and
inside the Burner several times to remove any
debris.
Use abottle brush with aflexible handle. Run
the brush through the burner tube and inside
the burner several times, removing anydebris.
Use an air hose to force air through each
Burner Tube. The forced air should pass
debris or obstructions through the Burner and
out the ports.

to the orifice is vital for safeoperation.
Checkto ensure the orifice is inside ofthe
burner tube before using your gas grill. See
Figure 2.Ifthe burner tube does not fit over
the valve orifice, lighting the burner may
cause explosion and/or fire.

Unscreweach Ignitor Cap located on the grill
Control Panel and remove the Contacts and
Springs fromthe Ignitor Slots.
Place amanufacturer supplied AA batteryinto
each Ignitor Slot. Be sure to place the
positive pole facing toward you.See Figure 3.
Place the Spring over the AA battery,then
place the Contact on top ofthe Spring.
Screweach Ignitor Cap backonto the grill

Ifthe gap is wider than 3/16" use a pair oflong
nose pliers and gently squeezethe Gas Collector
Box until the gap is correct.
Return the Gas Collector Box to its original
horizontal position, secure the Inside Nut and try
the Electrode Checkagain.
Placethe CeramicFlameTamerson the
CeramicRack and placeon the lowerledge
above the Burners. FlameTamers can be used
either side up. See Figure 5.
Place the stainless steel Cooking Grids on the
ledge above the FlameTamers. The smaller
Cooking Grid is for the center position.
Place the SecondaryCooking Rackinto the
holes on the upper leftand right ofthe Back
Burner framewith the bottomresting in the
slots on either side ofthe Grill Bowl.

Important: Beforecooking on yourgrillthefirst
time, washthe Cooking GridsandtheSecondary
Cooking Rackwith warm,soapywater. Rinseand
drythoroughly.Aftercooking iscompleted,turn grill
to HIGHsettingfor about threeto five minutes to
burn offexcessgreaseorfood residue.

1. Open the leftDoor. Pull out the LP gas tank
Drawer. Place the 20 lb tankwith foot ring
into the hole in the Drawer. See Figure 6a.
Makesure the TankValve is in the OFF
positon.
Makesure the gas TankValve faces to the
right and use the 5/16"x90mm wing bolt
provided to secure gas tank.
Checkthe TankValve to ensure it has proper
external mating threads to fit the Regulator
and Hose Assemblyprovided. See Figure 6b.

Makesure all Burner Valves are in the OFF
position.
Inspect the Valve connection port and Regula-
tor Assembly.Lookfor damage or debris.
Remove anydebris. Inspect Hose for damage.
Never use damaged or plugged equipment.
When connecting the Regulator and Hose
Assemblyto the TankValve, hand tighten nut
clockwise to afull stop. Do Not use a
wrench to tighten because it could damage
the QuickCoupling Nut and result in a
hazardous condition.
Open the TankValve fully(counterclockwise).
Use asoapywater solution to checkall
connections for leaksbefore attempting to light
your grill. See "Checking for LP gas Leaks"
on page 11. Ifaleakis found, turn the Tank
Valve off and do not use your grill until the
leakis repaired.

Checking For LP Gas Leaks

bubbles appear in the soap solution the

the Basic Lighting Procedures. Then, light the match
and place Manual Lighting Stickthrough the Lighting
Hole on the right side ofthe grill. SeeFigure 8.Turn
the right Main Burner Control Knob to the HIGH
setting to release gas. The Burner should light immedi-
ately.
Never lean over the grill cooking area while
lighting your gas grill. Keep your face and

BEFORE rotisserie cooking you will need to remove the Cooking Grid(s) and possiblythe FlameTamers
fromyour grill. When rotisserie cooking place aCooking Pan under the food to be cooked. This will
capture the drippings and keep your grill clean ofexcess grease which could cause afire. Use caution
when moving aCooking Pan containing hot oils.
The bushing and collar must alwaysbe used with this Rotisserie.

Your newgrill includes anInfraredBackBurner and a
Rotisseriedesignedto slowlycookfoodsthat aremoist

infrared heat.Thelocation ofthe BackBurner allows

Rotisserie cooking is aslowcooking process and the
maximumtemperature you can expect to reach with
the Lid closed is about 325to 350¦F,dependingon

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety
precautions should alwaysbe used, including the
following:
Alwaysattach the assembled Rotisserie to your
grill first, then plug the Cord into an outlet. To
disconnect, turn the Rotisserie "OFF" then remove
the Plug fromoutlet.
Most grill surfaces and Rotisserie parts are hot
during and after cooking, so use reasonable care
around your grill and wear protective mitts. Only
maneuver the Rotisserie byits Handle.
Toprotect against electrical shock,do not im-
merse Electrical Cord, Plug or Motor in water or
expose to rain. Protect electrical cord fromburn-
ers, hot grill surfaces and grease.
Do not operate the Rotisserie ifthe cord or plug
becomes damaged, or ifthe Rotisserie malfunc-
tions or has been damaged in anymanner.
Do not let children operate your grill or Rotisserie,
and do not let children playnearby.
Unplug the Rotisserie fromelectrical outlet when
notinuseand before cleaning. Allowtocool before
adding or removing parts. When the Rotisserie is
not in use, store it indoors in adryplace.
The use ofaccessoryattachments is not recom-
mended bythe manufacturer and maycause
injuries. Do not use this Rotisserie for other than
intended use.
Read All Instructions:
When rotisserie cooking place aCooking Pan
under the food to be cooked. This will capture the

ofthe appliance and suitable for outdoor use with
a3-wire grounding type cord. The cord must be
arranged so that it will be protected fromburners,

Cleaning The Grease Tray
Toreducethe chanceoffire,the GreaseDraining
Trayshouldbe inspectedbefore eachgrilluse. Remove
grease (a plastic spatula workswell) and wash Grease
Tray with amild soap and warmwater solution.
Cleaning the Flame Tamers
Toreducethechanceofflare-ups,FlameTamers
shouldbecleanedwheneverfoodorgreasedrippings
accumulate. Brush off FlameTamers with afiber type
brushand turnovertoallowtheBurnerheatto burnoff
anystubornfoodresidue. TheCeramicFlameTamers
workequally well on either side.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Annual Cleaning of The Grill Interior
Use afiber or brass cleaning brush to clean the interior
Grill Bowl, CookingGrids, FlameTamers andGrease
Tray.Never use awire brush or metal scraper on
porcelainfinishedparts(aroundBackBurner) which
can scratch or chip the porcelain finish and promote
rusting.
Checkeach SparkElectrode, adjusting as needed.
Thespacebetween the SparkElectrodeTipand
SparkReceivershouldbeapproximately3/16".
Replace the Burners and adjust the Gas Collector
Box. The edge ofthe collector box should be
overlappingtheBurnerPort.

Weathering and high heat can cause astainless steel
grill Lid to turn tanin color.This is not to be confused

used in the manufacturing process ofstainless steel
as well as cooking oils and a dirtygrill Lid can also
encourage discoloration ifthe Lid is not cleaned prior
to grill use.
1.Shut off gas supply at source and disconnect fuel
line fromGasValve Manifold. Protect fuel line
fitting.
2.Use aStainless Steel Cleaner and softcloth to
removeresidualadhesiveandoilsfromtheinside
andoutsideofyourgrillLid. Never use abrasive
cleaners or scrubbers. In addition to the initial
cleaning,routinecleaningto removedirt,grease
and oils will help discourage Lid discoloration.
CovereachgasValveOrificewithaluminumfoil.
Brush the inside and bottomofthe grill with a
brasswire brushorfiber cleaningpad, andwash
with amild soap and warmwater solution. Rinse
thoroughly and let dry.

RegardlessofwhichBurnercleaningprocedureyou
use, werecommend you also complete the following
steps to help prolong Burner life.

Use abrass wire brush to clean the entire outer
surfaceofeachBurneruntilfreeoffoodresidue
and dirt.
Clean anyclogged ports with a stiff wire, such as
an open paper clip.
Inspecteach Burner fordamage(cracksor holes)
and ifsuch damage is found, order and install a
newBurner. After installation, checkto insure that
the gas Valve Orifices are correctlyplaced inside
the ends ofthe Burner Tubes. Also checkthe
position ofyour SparkElectrode.

Checkto ensure the Orifice is inside ofthe
Burner Tube before using your gas grill. See
Figure 2.Ifthe Burner Tube does not fit

Bend astiff wire, (a lightweight coat
hanger workswell) into asmall hookas
shownbelow.Run the hookthrough the
Burner Tube and inside the Burner several
times to remove anydebris.
Use abottle brush with aflexible handle.
Run the brush through the Burner Tube
and inside the Burner several times, remov-
ing anydebris.
Use an air hose to force air through each
Burner Tube. The forced air should pass
debris or obstructions through the Burner
and out the ports.
Cleaning The Burner Tubes and Burner Ports
To reduce the chance of"FLASH-BACK" the proce-
dure belowshould be followed at least once amonth in

StainlessSteelCookingGrids: Beforeinitialuseand
as needed, wash Grids with amild detergent and rinse
withhotwater.Forstubbornfoodresidueuseadegreaser
andfiberor brass cleaning brush.
Flame Tamers: Toreduce the chance offlare-ups,
FlameTamersshouldbecleanedwheneverfoodor
grease drippingsaccumulate. Brushoff Flame
Tamers withafibertype brush andturn overto allow
theburnerheattoburnoffanystubornfoodresidue.
TheCeramicFlameTamersworkequallywell on
either side.
Grease Tray:
Toreducethechanceoffire,theGreaseTrayshould
beinspected beforeeachgrilluse.Remove grease(a
plastic spatula workswell) and wash Grease Traywith
amild soap and warmwater solution.
Question: Whatcausesstainlesssteeltodiscolor?
Answer:Weathering and highheat cancause a
stainless steel grill Lid to turn tanin color.This is not
to be confused with rust and is not aproduct defect.
Machineoils usedinthemanufacturing processof
stainless steel, cooking oils and a dirtygrill Lid can
also encourage discoloration ifthe Lid is not cleaned
prior to grill use.After your grill is assembled, remove
anyprotective PVC filmfromthe grill Lid and use a
Stainless Steel Cleaner andsoftcloth to remove
residualadhesive and oils fromthe inside andoutside
ofyourgrillLid.Neveruseabrasive cleaners orscrub-
bers.Routinecleaning to remove dirt, grease and oils
will helpdiscourage Lid discoloration.
Turn all Control Knobs to the OFF position.
Turn off the LP gas tankvalve.
Disconnect Regulator fromLP gas tank.
Let unit stand for 5minutes.
Reconnect Regulator to the LP gas tank.
Open Grill Lid or Side Burner Lid. Turn the
tankvalve on slowlyuntil 1/4 to 1/2 open.
Light the Burner farthest fromfuel source by
turning its Control Knob to HIGH then push
the Electronic Ignition 3-4 seconds to light.
Question: Mygrill has alow flame and sometimes
will not light. Why?
Answer: You need to purge air fromthe gasline or
reset the Regulator excess gas flowdevice. Opening
the tankvalve all the wayor too quicklytriggers the
Regulators safetydevice to shut downgas flow which
prevents excessive gas flowto your grill. Lighting the
Burnerfarthestfromthefuelsourceeverytimewillhelp
eliminate air pockets in the Manifold. Performthis pro-
cedure every timeanewLP tankis connected to grill:
Check LPgassupply.An emptyLPgastank weighs
about 20 pounds.Afull tankweighs about 40 pounds.
Checkto insure all gas connections are secure.
The IgnitionAAbatterymayneed replacing.
Ignition wiresmaybe loose. Remove the battery,
inspect the Ignitor JunctionBox found behind the
Control Panel and connect anyloose wires.
SparkElectrode Tipsmayneedrepositioning. Referto
the ElectrodeCheck?procedures foundon page8.
Checkthat the end ofeach Burner Tube is properly
located over eachGasValve Orifice.
There may be anobstruction in the gasline. Tocorrect
this,remove LP gasHose and Regulator or Natural
Gas fuel line fromyour grill. Do not smoke!Open gas
supplyfor one second to clear any obstruction from
fuel line. Close off gas supplyat source and reconnect
fuel line to your grill.
