Protection of the environment
HEnvironmental note
DaimlerChrysler's declared policy is one of
comprehensive environmental protection.
Theobjectives are for the natural resources
which form the basisofour existenceonthis
planet to be used sparingly and in amanner
whichtakes the requirements of bothnature
and humanity into account.
You too can help to protectthe environment
by operatingyour Mercedes-Benz in an envi-
ronmentally responsible manner.
Fuelconsumptionand therate of engine,
transmission, brakeand tyre weardepend
on the followingtwo factors:
!Your vehicle'soperating conditions
!Your personal driving style
Youcan influence both factors.
You should, therefore, observethe
following:
Operating conditions:
!Avoid short trips as these increase fuel
consumption.
!Make sure thatthe tyrepressuresare al-
wayscorrect.
!Do notcarry anyunnecessaryweight.
!Keep an eyeonthe vehicle's fuelcon-
sumption.
!Removeroofracks once younolonger
needthem.
!Aregularly servicedvehiclecontributes
to environmental protection. Therefore,
adhere to the service intervals.
!Alwayshavemaintenancework carried
out at aqualified specialist workshop,
e.g. aMercedes-Benz ServiceCentre.
Personalstyle of driving:
!Do not depress the acceleratorpedal
while startingthe engine.
!Do not warm up the engine when the ve-
hicle is stationary.
!Anticipate roadand traffic conditions
andmaintain sufficientdistance from
thevehicle in front.
!Avoidfrequent, sudden acceleration.
!Changegearingoodtime and useeach
gear only up to 2 / 3of its maximum en-
gine speed.
!Switch off the engine in stationary
traffic.

Union (EU) EndofLife Vehicles Directive.1
Returningused vehicles
1. Applies to vehicles of up to 3.5 tgross vehicle
weight,inaccordancewithnationalregulations.
Your Mercedes-Benz vehicle hasalready been
meeting legalrequirements fordesignintermsof
suitabilityfor recycling and reuseofparts forsev-
eral years. Thereisanetworkofreturnpoints and
disassembly plantswhich can recycle your vehicle
in an environmentallyresponsiblemanner.The
options for recycling vehicles and parts arecon-
stantly being developed and improved.This
means that your Mercedes-Benz willcontinue to
meet even the increased recycling quotas in the
future in goodtime. You can obtainfurther infor-
mation from the Mercedes-Benz homepage for
your countryorbycalling your national hotline
number.

Operatingsafety
GRiskofaccident and injury
Have allworkonyourvehicle,inparticular
work relevanttosafety andworkonsystems
relevant to safety and maintenance work,
performed at aqualified specialistwork-
shop. The specialistworkshopmusthave
the necessary specialist knowledge and
tools to carry out the work required.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you usea
Mercedes-Benz ServiceCentre for this pur-
pose.
Some safety systems onlyoperate when the
engine is running. Therefore, do not switch
the engine off when thevehicle is in motion.
Otherwise, the safety systems on your vehi-
cle couldstopworkingproperlyand would
then be unable to protectyou andother per-
sons in the manner intended. There would
then be an increased risk of accidentand in-
jury.
GRiskofaccident andinjury
Work or modificationtoyourvehicle that is
not performed properly, e.g. due to cables
being routed under trims, couldprevent the
safety systems on your vehiclefromworking
properly. The safety systems would then be
unable to protect you andother personsin
themanner intended. There wouldthen be
an increased risk of accident and injury.
For thisreason, always have anywork or
modifications to the vehicle, for example
parts fitted or conversions, performedata
qualified specialist workshop.
GRiskofaccident
Aheavy impact against the underbody, tyres
or wheels(e.g. when bottoming outon
rough terrainordriving over an obstacle at
high speed) coulddamage your vehicle.
This also applies to vehicles which are
equipped with underbodyprotection. If such
damageoccurs, haveyourvehicle checked
at aqualifiedspecialist workshop.
Work incorrectly carriedout on electronic
equipment and its software could stop this
equipment from working. The electronic sys-
tems are interconnected through interfaces.
Tampering with these electronic systems
mightalso causemalfunctionsinsystems
thathave notbeen modified. Such malfunc-
tions could, however, seriously impair the
operational safety of your vehicleand thus
your own safety.
Forthis reason, always have any work or
modifications to electronic componentsper-

registration details.
Mercedes-Benzrecommends that youreg-
ister your vehicle at aMercedes-BenzServ-
iceCentre.
Please inform Mercedes-Benz of any
changeofaddress or changeofvehicle
ownership as soon as possible.
