GeneralWarnings:

Thecartcontainsbatteries,whichcanemitquantitiesofexplosivegases.Keepthecartinawell
ventilatedareaandawayfromsparksandopenflames.
Donotcoverthecartwhilechargingasanaccumulationofhydrogengascouldresultin
explosion.
WhenchargingthecartbesurethattheignitionisswitchedtotheOFFposition.Ifthekeyisleft
intheONpositiondamagemaybecausedtothechargerorthecar.
ThecartisequippedwithanonboardULlistedcharger.Whenchargingyourcarpleasebesure
touseapropergroundedchargingcabletoprovidepowertothecharger.Ventilatewhen
chargingoroperatingthecartinenclosedareas.
Donotperformserviceormaintenanceonbatterieswhilecartischarging.
Thecartdoesnotofferprotectionfromlightning,flyingdebris,orotherstormhazards.Upon
indicationofsevereweathercondition,seekappropriateshelterimmediately.
Alwaysobeyalltrafficandcourseregulationswhenoperatingthecart.
Inspectbatteryterminals,cablesandbatteriesbeforeeachuse.
Alwayswearafullfaceshield,rubberglovesandrubberapronwhenworkingwithorinclose
proximitytobatteries.
TurntheignitionswitchtotheOFFposition,removethekey,placethedriveintopark,setthe
parkbrakeandunplugthechargerbeforeinspectingorperforminganytypeofserviceonthe
cart.
Connectionsshouldbetightandfreeofcorrosion.
Useinsulatedtoolsonlywhenworkingwithelectricalconnections.
Thetightnessofthebatteryterminalnutshouldbebetween95105inchpoundsoftorque.Do
notovertighten.Looseand/orovertightenedconnectionscancausebatteryfailure,explosion
andorfire.

Donotoverfillthebatteriesandkeepbatteriescleanandfreeofmoisture.
Ifanyhighheatconditionorburningsmellisnoticedimmediatelyparkthecartinasafelocation,
placetheignitionintheOFFposition,moveyourselfandpassengersawayquicklytoasafe
distancefromthecartandcontactyourdealerforassistanceandrepair.Iffireorsmokeis
detectedcontactyourlocalfiredepartmentimmediately.
Donotstoreyourcartinsideifanyoftheabovenotedconditionsexist.
Onlyuserecommendedbatteriesofthecorrectsize.
Onlyauthorizedtechniciansshouldperformmaintenanceorrepaironthecart.Itisrequiredto
abidebyallregulationsandsafetydecalsonthecartwhileperforminganytypeofmaintenance
orrepairs.
Removealljewelleryandloosenitemsbeforeperformingmaintenanceprocedures.
Improperapplicationormaintenancewillleadtodeteriorationofcartperformanceandreduce
theoveralllifeofthecart.

Controls&Operation:
•ItisimperativethatalloperatorsoftheMEVcartbefamiliarwiththecontrolspriorto
operation.
•Toavoidunintentionalaccelerationandcartdamage,donotpositionthedirectionselector
switch(forward/reverse)untilthecarthascometoacompletestop.
•Alwayssettheparkingbrakeandremovethekeywhenparkingorleavingthecart
unattended.
DirectionSelectorStick
Thedirectionselectorswitchislocatedbelowthecupholder’scentreofmaindash.Ithasthree
positionpoints,‘FWD’forDrive(Top),‘P’forPark(Middle)and‘REV’forReverse(Bottom).
IMPORTANTNOTE:ForSafety,thecartmustbeplacedinthe‘middle’positionbeforethe
ignitionswitchisturnedon.

TheMultiFunctionStalkisamultifeaturecontrol.Itislocatedontheleftsideofthesteering
wheel.
TurnSignal
LeftSideStalk
Pushingdownwardonthestalkindicatesaleftturn,pushingupwardarightturn.Note:theturn
signalisnotselfcancelling.
Horn
Toactivatethehorn,depressthebuttononendoftheleftturnsignalstalk.
Headlights
Pushtheleftmultifunctionstalkforwardtoactivatethemainlights.Theheadlamps,rearlamps
willilluminateandthestalkwillcontinuetooperatethesameappliesforturnsignallingand
horn.
ParkingBrake
Thecartisequippedwithafootoperatedparkingbrakepositionedabovethemainbrakepedal.
Toengagetheparkbrake,positionfootontheparkbrake,pushandrollover.Thefurther
distanceitispushedwiththebrakepedal,thestrongertheparking.Inordertoreleasethepark
brakesimplepresstheacceleratorpedalwhichwillautomaticallyreleaseparkbrake
IMPORTANTNOTE:BecarefulnottotryanddrivethecartwiththeParkingBrakeengaged–
thiscouldcausemotorandbrakedamage.Andensurebeforereleasingparkbrakecartis
switchedandinpark(middle)position.

Topreventthecartfromrolling,thisbrakeshouldbeappliedwheneverthecartisparkedorleft
unattended.
IftheParkingBrakeisengagedwhilethekeyswitchisintheonposition,ared(P)lightwill
illuminateonthedisplay,indicatingtheparkingbrakeisengaged.
TheFWD–REVswitchshouldbeplacedintheparkposition(middle)andtheparkingbrake
appliedwiththekeyremovedwhenevertheoperatorexitsthecart.
BrakePedal
Thebrakepedalisthelargerfootpedaltotheleftoftheacceleratorpedal.Thebrakepedal
engagesthereardrumbrakes.Toslowthecartdown,theoperatorshoulddepressthebrake
pedal.
AcceleratorPedal
Theacceleratorpedalisthesmallerpedaltotherightofthebrakepedal.Whendepressed,the
acceleratorpedalwillengagethedrivemotorinthedirectionthedrivestickissetinthe‘FWD’
or‘REV’position.
Thecartwillaccelerateuptoitstopspeed,atwhichtimepowerwillbereducedtothemotor.
Whenthereversepositionisselected,cartspeedisreduced.
Smooth,slowaccelerationwillsubstantiallyincreasethecartrange.
Alwaysremembertodisengagetheparkingbrakepriortooperatingthecart.
PowerOutlet
Youwillfindthepoweroutletonthemaindashareatotherightofthekeyswitch;thepower
outputisDC12VandratedforaMaximumAmpdrawof5A.

PreoperationChecklist:
EveryMEVcarthasbeenthoroughlyinspectedbyboththemanufactureranddealerpriorto
delivery.
Beforetheinitialoperation,itisimportantthattheuserinspectthecartusingthefollowing
guidelines;
Thefollowingitemsshouldbecheckedonadailybasispriortocartoperation:
•Generalcheckthatallpartsaresecurelyfastenedtothecart,nopartsaremissing,andall
screwsornutsareproperlytightened.
•Reviewallwarningdecalsandplacementonthecart.
•Tires/Tyres–checkforproperinflation,visuallycheckfordamageandwearonadailybasis.
Thecorrectpressureis30psi/2.75bar.
•Batteries–Fillelectrolytelevelinallcellsofeachbattery.Adddistilledwaterasdescribedin
theBatteryCaresectionofthismanual.Allwiresshouldbefreefromcorrosion.Batteries
shouldbefullychargedbeforefirstuseofcart.
•Brakes–check
•ChargerChargercord,plug,andreceptacleinspectforcracks,looseconnections,orfrays.
•Forward/ReverseSwitch–ensureproperoperation
•Brakes–makesurethebrakepedalisoperatingsmoothly.Thecartshouldcometoasmooth
stopwhenoperating.Ifexcessiveorlowpedalpressure,pullingtoonesideorunusualnoise
isnoticedwhilebraking,havethecartservicedimmediately.
•ParkingBrake–makesurethefootoperatedparkingbrakeisfunctioningproperly.
•Theparkingbrakeshouldengagetherearwheelswhenintheuppositionandallowthecart
torollsmoothlywheninthereleasedposition.
•ReverseBuzzer–thereversebuzzershouldsoundwhenthekeyisintheonpositionandthe
directionstickissettoreverse‘R’.
•Steering–steeringshouldbesmoothandconsistent.
•General–listenforanyunusualnoisessuchassqueaksorrattles.Checkthecart’srideand
performance.Haveacertifiedtechnicianinvestigateanythingunusual.

•Donotallowanyonetohangontoanypartofthecartwhileoperating.
•Obeyalltrafficandcourseregulations.
•Ensureallpersonshavereadtheoperator’smanualandcanproperlyoperatethecart.
•Avoidoperatingatnightbecausethecartmaybedifficulttoseebyothers.Ifthecartmust
beoperatedatnight,makesureyouuseheadlampsandtaillamps.
•BringthecarttoacompletestoppriortoshiftingbetweentheDrive(‘FWD’)andReverse
(‘REV’)settings.Failuretodosomayinjureanunsuspectingpassengerand/ordamagethe
cart.
•Operatethecartfromthedriver’sseatonly.
•Tohelppreventfromtheriskofseriousinjury,driverandpassengershouldkeepallbody
partsinsidethecartatalltimes.
•Avoidsuddenandsharpturns.
•Toreducethechanceofthecarttippingover,reducespeedwhilemakingsharpturns.
•Neverdrinkanddrive.Notonlyisdrinkinganddrivingunsafe,butitmayalsoviolatestate,
localandnationallaws.
StartingtheCart
•Studyandunderstandthecontrols.
•Removethebatterychargercableifconnected.
•Makesureeveryoneisseatedwithseatbeltsproperlyfastened.
•Adjustrearviewmirrors.
•PlacethekeyintheONpositionandturnthewheelsinthedesireddirectionofmotion.
•ReleaseParkingBrake–thisMUSTbedonepriortogearselection.
•SelectdirectionofmotionwiththeDrive/Reversewithdashswitch
•Slowlyapplytheaccelerator.
•Usethebraketostopandlimitcartspeed.
•Avoiddrivingthroughwaterasdoingsomaydamagethedrivemotorandalsoreduce
brakingperformance.Ifdrivingthroughwatercannotbeavoided,checkthebrakeoperation
bygentlyapplyingpressuretoensurenormaloperationoccurs.

•Whenstationaryonahill,usethefootbrakeorparkingbraketoholdposition.Donotusethe
acceleratorpedal.Holdingtheacceleratorpedalwillreducethelifeofthebatteriesandthe
motor.

•Afterstoppingtheelectriccart,engagetheparkingbrakebypushingparkbrake.
•TurnthekeyswitchOFF,removethekey,andplacethedriveswitchinthemiddleposition
(‘P’).
Towing
•Donottowbehindanautomobileortruckonanypublicroads.Totowthecartonpublic
roads,useatrailerwithaminimumloadratingof2,000lbs.
•Totowthecart,turntheignitionswitchtotheoffpositionandplacethedrivestickintopark
position.
•Useextremecautionwhileturning.
•Donotallowpersonsinthecartwhilebeingtowed.
•Avoidstoppingonahillwhentowinganddonotallowtorollbackwardsasthismaycause
thecarttooverturn.
Storage
•Donotattempttochargefrozenbatteriesorbatterieswithbulgedcases.Discardthebattery.
Frozenbatteriescanexplode.
•Batteriesinalowstateofchargearemorelikelytofreeze.Chargebatteriesfullybefore
storingthecart.
1.TurntheignitionkeyOFF,placethedrivestickswitchinPark(‘P’),andchockthewheelsto
preventanyrolling.Applytheparkingbrake.
2.Fullychargethebatteries.Ifpossible,keepthebatterychargerconnectedsothatthebatteries
willnotdischarge.Acomputeronthechargerwillautomaticallymonitorandchargethe
batteries.IfareliableACpowersupplyisnotavailable,disconnectthechargerfromtheAC
supplyanddisconnectthebatteries.
3.Dirtybatterytopscanconductsmallamountsofelectricityandhastenthedischargingofthe
batteries.Cleanbatterytopsandterminalswithasolutionofwaterandbakingsoda(1gallon/
3.78litresofwaterfor1cupofbakingsoda).Donotallowthissolutiontoenterthebatteries.
4.Inspectandcleanbatterywires.Damageorfrayedwiresshouldbereplacedbyaqualified
technician.
5.Storethecartinacool,drylocation.

•Theelectrolyteinthebatteriesishighlyacidicandpoisonous.Avoidcontactwithskin,eyes,
andclothing.Severeburningandscaringmayresult.
•Remedialmeasuresincaseofcontactwithbatteryacid:
External:Flushwithwaterfor15minutes.Callphysicianimmediately.

Thesix8voltbatteriesinthiscartarespecificallydesigneddeepcyclebatteries.
Automotivebatteriesshouldneverbeusedinthiscart.Thesametypeandsizeleadacid
batteriesshouldbeusedifreplacementisnecessary.Alternativebatteriessuchassealed
batteriesandglassmatbatterieswillrequireadifferentchargingsystemandshouldnotbe
used.
Itisimportanttoproperlyconditionnewbatteries.Newbatterieswilltake50to100chargesto
reachtheirfullpotential.Duringthisperioditisimportantnottoexceeda50%dischargelevel.
Batteriesshouldbefullychargedbeforefirstuseofcart,beforeremovalfromstorage,and
beforeuseeachday.
Chargebatterieswheneverpossible;avoiddeepdischargingofbatteriesasitwillshortentheir
life.
BatteryWateringSystem(IfyouhavethisOptionalAccessoryfittedtoyourcart)
Thecartisequippedwithabatterywateringsystemtomakemaintenanceofthebattery
electrolyteleveleasy.Thesystemhastwowateringpoints.Oneislocatedinthebattery
compartmentbeneaththepassengerseat;theotherislocatedunderthedrivers’seat.
Note:Bothpointsmustbeaccessedandusedwhenwateringthebatteriesasthesystemdoes
notconnecttheleftandrightbatterybanks.

SystemManualincludedwithyourcartdocumentation.
Itisalsohighlyrecommendedthatyouhaveyourdealerdemonstratetheproperoperationof
thewateringsystem.
BatteryCare
Thefollowingmaintenanceisrequired:
1.Keepbatteriesclean(seepage17).Ensurethebatterycelltopsaresecure.Washthebattery
topsandterminalsofbatterieswithasolutionof1gallonwater/3.78litresand1cupbaking
soda.Donotallowsolutiontoenterthebatteries.Rinseoffresidualsolution.
2.Theelectrolytelevelinthebatteriesshouldbecheckedweeklybyfillingthemusingthe
batterywateringsystem.

Addwateronlyafterchargingunlesstheelectrolytelevelisbelowthetopofthebatteryplates.
Addwatertocoverplatesthencheckelectrolytelevelsagainoncecharged.
Note:abatterywateringgunorbottleisavailableatmanyautopartsdealers.
Inspectthewiresandterminalconnectionsforcorrosion,fraying,ordamage.Replacewiresif
necessary.Ensurebatterywireterminalconnectornutsaretightenedto95105inchpounds–
alwaysuseatorquewrenchanddonotovertighten.
•Ifthebatterywiresorterminalsaredamagedorcorroded,theyshouldbereplacedor
cleaned.Failuretodosomaycausethemtooverheatduringoperation.
•Torquebatteryholddownstrapsto40inlbstoensurethebatteriesareheldinplace
securely.
•Aftereachuse,thecartshouldbeplacedoncharge.Thebatteriesshouldneverbeleft
dischargedlongerthanabsolutelynecessary.
BatteryCharging
•Batteriesemithydrogenwhichisanexplosivegas.Whilecharging,keepcartinwell
ventilatedareas.
•Donotcoverthecartwhilechargingasanaccumulationofhydrogengascouldresultinan
explosion.
