The acquisition card can be installed and operated
by all persons following the instructions given in
this manual. However, if you encounter a problem,
we recommend that you contact our after-sales
support service.
It is imperative that the instructions be
followed strictly.
Not adhering to these instructions may
endanger personnel, result in damage and
render the manufacturer’s warranty void.
All repair or maintenance operations must
be carried out by our after-sales support
personnel.

Réception du matériel
L’option que vous venez d’acheter se
compose des éléments suivants (voir
figure 1) :
◗une carte d'acquisition,
◗un câble de communication série RS232
DB9/DB9,
◗un manuel d’installation et d’utilisation de
la carte d'acquisition (le présent document).
Stockage
En cas de stockage avant sa mise en
service, laisser votre carte d'acquisition dans
son emballage d’origine et à l’abri de
l’humidité (température de stockage : –40°C
à +70°C).
Recyclage de
l'emballage
Concernant le rebut de l'emballage, veuillez
vous conformer aux dispositions légales en
vigueur.

Vue d'ensembleFonction
La carte d'acquisition est un élément
optionnel du module MultiSlot (voir le
manuel d'installation et d'utilisation de ce
module n°5102919700).
Elle assure l'interface entre le bus I2C du
module MultiSlot et l'Alimentation Sans
Interruptions (ASI) à surveiller.
Elle acquiert, à l'aide du protocole de
communication U-Talk (protocole
propriétaire MGE UPS SYSTEMS) ou par
lecture de contacts secs de type Basic, un
ensemble d'informations, représentatives de
l'état de fonctionnement de l'ASI, qu'elle
transmet sur le bus I2C du module MultiSlot
dans lequel elle est insérée.

Configuration de la carte
Pour liaison à une ASI
munie d'un port
U-Talk
C'est la configuration par défault de la carte.
La figure 3 présente la position des
éléments de paramétrage à respecter pour
ce type d'utilisation. Si vous devez
manipuler les micro-interrupteurs du boîtier
SA1, retirer le film plastique de protection.
Pour liaison à une ASI
munie d'un port
Basic
Pour communiquer avec une ASI équipée
d'un port Basic, vous devez configurer la
carte comme indiqué sur la figure 4. Avant
de manipuler les micro-interrupteurs du
boîtier SA1, retirer le film plastique de
protection.

Installation
La carte d'acquisition peut être insérée dans
l'un quelconque des quatre emplacements
du module MultiSlot, il n'y a pas d'ordre à
respecter (voir le manuel de ce module).
Seul le connecteur DB9 J3 de la carte
d'acquisition U-Talk/Basic doit être utilisé.
Le connecteur J4 est réservé pour une
utilisation future.

Utilisation
Lorsque la carte d'acquisition est insérée
dans le module MultiSlot :
◗ le voyant vert 3de la carte d'acquisition
clignote régulièrement toutes les secondes
pendant la phase de démarrage ;
◗ si des cartes de communication sont
connectées au coffret, le clignotement du
voyant vert 3devient plus rapide et
irrégulier pendant l'initialisation du dialogue
sur le bus I2C du module MultiSlot ;
◗ en mode U-Talk, lorsque le dialogue avec
l'ASI est initialisé, le voyant vert 3clignote
au rythme des échanges entre l'ASI et la
carte d'acquisition ;
◗ en mode Basic, le voyant vert 3clignote
toutes les trois secondes.

Dépannage
Anomalies de
fonctionnement
Problème d'alimentation
Le voyant vert 3 de la carte d'acquisition
reste éteint en permanence :
◗ vérifier l'alimentation du coffret de
communication,
◗ vérifier que la carte d'acquisition est bien
insérée à fond dans le coffret,
◗ appuyer sur le bouton poussoir de "reset"
4de la carte.
Problème de démarrage
Le voyant vert 3de la carte d'acquisition
reste en permanence allumé : appuyer sur le
bouton poussoir de "reset" 4de la carte.
Remplacement du
câble
En cas de perte ou de détérioration du
câble de communication fourni avec la
carte d'acquisition, un câble correspondant
au schéma de la figure 7 peut être utilisé.
Si le problème persiste, contacter notre
service après vente.

Contents of package
This optional equipment is made up of the
following components (see figure 1):
◗one acquisition card,
◗one DB9/DB9 RS232 serial
communications cable,
◗one installation and user manual for the
acquisition card (this document).
Storage
If the card is stored prior to installation, it
should remain in the original packing in a dry
place. The storage temperature range is
–40°C to +70°C.
Recycling of packing
materials
Packing materials must be disposed of in
compliance with applicable laws and
regulations.

Overall viewFunction
The acquisition card is an optional part of
the MultiSlot module (see the installation
and user manual for the MultiSlot module,
ref. 5102919700).
The card acts as the interface between the
I2C bus of the MultiSlot module and the
supervised UPS (Uninterruptible Power
Supply).
Using the MGE UPS SYSTEMS proprietary
protocol (U-Talk) or the Basic protocol (dry
contacts), it acquires measurements, status
information and alarms from the UPS to
which it is connected and transmits the data
to the I2C bus of the MultiSlot module in
which it is installed.

Card settings
Connection to a UPS
with a U-Talk port
The default card settings are for this type of
connection. Figure 3 shows the
corresponding positions of the jumpers and
DIP switches. Before changing any of the
DIP switches on the SA1 block, the plastic
protection sheet must be removed.
Connection to a UPS
with a Basic port
Card settings must be modified as indicated
in figure 4 for communication with a UPS
equipped with a Basic port. Before changing
any of the DIP switches on the SA1 block,
the plastic protection sheet must be

Installation
The acquisition card may be installed in any
of the four slots in the MultiSlot module. No
particular order is required (see the manual
of the MultiSlot module). Only the DB9 J3
connector on the acquisition card may be
used for connection. Connector J4 is
reserved for future applications.

Operation
When the acquisition card is installed in the
MultiSlot module, the following occurs:
◗ the green light 3on the acquisition card
flashes once every second during the start-
up phase,
◗ if communications cards are connected to
the module, the green light 3flashes more
rapidly and irregularly during initialization of
the dialogue on the I2C bus of the MultiSlot
module,
◗ in U-Talk mode, once dialogue with the
UPS has been initialized, the green light 3
flashes when data is exchanged between
the UPS and the acquisition card,
◗ in Basic mode, the green light 3flashes
every three seconds.

Troubleshooting
Operating anomalies
AC-power problem
The green light 3on the acquisition card
remains off:
◗ check the supply of power to the MultiSlot
module,
◗ check that the acquisition card is correctly
installed (fully inserted) in the module,
◗ press the reset button 4on the
acquisition card.
Start-up problem
The green light 3on the acquisition card
remains on:press the reset button 4on the
acquisition card.
Cable replacement
If the communications cable supplied with
the acquisition card is lost or damaged, a
cable wired as indicated in figure 7 may be
used.
If the problem continues, contact our
after-sales support department.
