1 Introduction
MicroGEM’s MG725 is an innovative digital multimedia player that acts as a bridge
between the TV and iPod™, MP3 player, USB memory stick, USB hard disk and USB card
reader. It is specially designed to access all the digital multimedia in the iPod™ or USB
storage devices and allows you to view them comfortably on your TV screen. MicroGEM’s
MG725 lets you watch movies, view the photos and play back any other multimedia
data stored in your digital devices.
9With iPod interface, MG725 shows all the iPod information on TV screen and
supports full controllability of iPod function through remote control.
9MG725 decodes and plays multi format music, photo and video files stored in
iPod or USB storage devices
9MG725 supports hot plug functions, letting the user connect and disconnect
iPod or USB storage devices easily.
9MG725 can be used as a battery re-charger for iPod, even when its power is
off (Standby Mode)
9Even when MG725 power is turned off, iPod’s audio/video data can be
accessed through MG725 A/V output.

2 Safety and warning instruction
Please read it carefully to ensure safe and proper use:
Copyright
All multimedia contents (Movie, Music, and Photo) are under the
protection of copyright law. Avoid using pirated or illegally copied
material. Any legal repercussions resulting from illegal viewing of
pirated or copyrighted material will be born solely by the user.
Codec supported The system can not support all codec formats. Please check the
supported codec type in this manual. (3. Specification)
Disassembly
Do not attempt to repair the system by yourself. Opening or
removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or
other hazards.
Foreign object Do not insert a foreign object into the system. It may damage the
system and be harmful to user.
Shock or sudden
impact
Do not apply excessive pressure on the system. It may damage
the system.
Water and humidity
Do not let liquid enter the system as it may touch dangerous
voltage points or short electrical circuit that can result in fire or
electrical shock.
Chemical objects
Under any circumstances, Do not spill benzene, petrol, paint
thinner, or other corrosive materials in or on the system. Serious
and permanent harm can occur
Firmware update Do not turn off the power during firmware update. If the power
turns off, it causes fatal damage to the system.

iPod detachment
It is recommended to select Eject icon on the main menu screen
(right bottom of main menu screen). You can remove iPod from
MG725 after "OK to disconnect" message appear on TV
screen.
Simultaneous use of
iPod and USB storage
devices.
MG725 does not allow simultaneous installation of iPod and
USB storage devices. For proper operation, be sure to use only
one device.
iPod software update
For proper operation of MG725, be sure to use the latest
iPod software version. Please refer to the iPod manual for
software update.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant
to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency
energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference
to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on. The user is
encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
•Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
•Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
•Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is
connected.

4.2 Name of each part and function description
4.2.1 MG725 main body
4.2.1.1 Front / Top side
•Power LED : Indicates the system power on/off status.
•IR sensor : Receives remote control signal. For proper operation, be
sure there is no obstacle between IR sensor and remote control.
•Dock adapter : It allows you to use different types of iPods such as
3rd gen., 4th gen. iPod™, 20GB or 60GB model, iPodU2™, iPod mini,
iPod photo and iPod nano. Please be sure to use correct type of dock
adapter for your iPod model.
•Dock connector : It connects MG725 with all types of iPod having
dock connector.
4.2.1.2 Back side
SPDIF connector for digital audio output, S-Video connector for high-
resolution video output, A/V out connector for

4.2.1.3 Left side
A-Type USB port is located on the left side of the main body to connect
the external USB storage devices such as
MP3 player, USB memory stick, USB
memory card reader, USB hard disc drive.
MG725 does not allow simultaneous installation of iPod and USB storage
devices. For proper operation, be sure to use only one device at a time.
5 Installation and connection
5.1 Dock adapter installation and removal
5.1.1 Installing the dock adapter
According to your iPod™ model and size, choose the proper dock adapter to
ensure the device fits properly into the slot.
Four different size of dock adapter is
included. Insert it into the slot. A clicking
sound informs you when it is properly
inserted.
When you install the dock adapter, be sure to check the orientation. Do not use too
much force to push the dock adapter into the slot.
5.1.2 Removing the dock adapter
To remove the dock adapter, turn off the power of MG725 and unplug it.
Remove iPod from MG725. Using your fingernail or a sharp object, pull out the
projected part (circle in the picture) and
remove the dock adapter.

When you remove the dock adapter, be careful not to damage the dock connector.
Do not use too much force to pull out the dock adapter.
5.2 iPod installation and removal
For proper operation of MG725, be sure to use the latest iPod software
version. Please refer to the iPod manual for software update
5.2.1 iPod installation
You can install iPod on MG725 anytime regardless of power ON/OFF.
Please be sure not to install any USB storage devices simultaneously. Also, check the
dock adapter type matching with your iPod model.
5.2.2 Removing the iPod
Before you remove iPod from MG725, select the Eject icon on the main
menu and wait until “ OK to disconnect “ message appear on TV screen..
5.3 Remote control battery installation
Before using your remote control, install the battery as described below.
•Using a clip or fingertip, push the locker and pull out the battery holder.
•Insert one “CR2032” battery as shown. Make sure to keep the correct polarity
(+ or -).
•Push the battery holder until click sounds.

5.4 Power connection
AC power adapter supports 100V~240V AC input voltage with DC9V 1000mA
output. To prevent the damage to the system, it is recommended only to use included AC
power adapter.
5.5 Video connection
5.5.1 Connecting to composite output (most commonly used)
Using the yellow connector of A/V cable, connect the MG725 A/V out
terminal with VIDEO IN or COMPOSITE IN terminal of TV. Please refer to the user’s
manual of your TV to find the VIDEO IN terminal.
5.5.2 Connecting to S-VIDEO output
If your TV has S-Video input terminal, you can enjoy high quality video using
separately bought S-Video cable (not included).

5.6 Audio connection
5.6.1 Connecting to analogue audio output(most commonly used)
Using the white and red connector of A/V cable, connect the MG725 A/V
out terminal with AUDIO IN terminal of TV. Please refer to the user’s manual of your TV
to find the AUDIO IN terminal.

5.6.2 Connecting to digital audio output (5.1CH)
If your A/V receiver has a digital audio input terminal(coaxial), you can enjoy
5.1ch audio in case you play back 5.1ch audio files. Using the separately bought (not
included) digital audio cable, connect digital audio output terminal with digital audio
input terminal (coaxial terminal) of your A/V receiver. Please refer to the user’s manual
of your A/V receiver.
6 Operation of MG725
When iPod is connected to the system,
Main menu icon will appear in a few seconds.
Main menu consists of iPod, Photos, Music,
Videos, Files and Eject menu. You can select
menu icon by / key and execute the menu
by ENT key. When Eject menu is selected, you
can remove the iPod from MG725 after “OK
to disconnect “ message appear on TV screen. You can go to Eject menu directly by ESC key in
main menu. You can come back to the main menu by HOME key anytime.

Commonly used remote control keys in all menus
•POWER : Turn ON/OFF the power of MG725.
•HOME : Go to the main menu
•SETUP : Go to setup menu. The details are explained in 8. Setup system
configuration
•VOL(+/-) : Adjust the volume in iPod, Photos, Music and Videos menu.
•MUTE : Mute the audio. Press it again to cancel the selection.
•: Start playing a highlighted file. Press it once more to pause playback.
•/ (Previous / Next) : Go to previous page/ next page when file browsing.
Go to previous file/next file when playback.
6.1 iPod mode
You can enjoy itunes™ music, which is downloaded by Apple™ itunes™, in iPod
mode.

Remote control keys in iPod mode
•ESC : Go back to the previous menu. It works in the same way as iPod Menu key
•ENT : Select highlighted menu or song. If song is selected, it starts playing.
•REPEAT : Press to setup REPEAT function. ONE,ALL and OFF selection is available
•ALL(SHUFFLE) : Press for SHUFFLE function ON/OFF.
•A/V SEL : Switch iPod audio and video line out (only for iPod photo and iPod with color
screen) to the A/V out connector of MG725. If you start music slide show with your
iPod photo or color screen, you can enjoy this iPod slide show on TV screen by
selecting A/V SEL. While iPod slide show, / , VOL(+/-), key works. Press
A/V SEL again to cancel the selection.
•/ : Move up/down when browsing.
•/ : Fast reverse/forward in song playback. By pressing it once more, go to
normal speed
•: Start playing a highlighted song. Press once more to pause playback
6.2 Photos mode
Photos mode reads and plays image files saved in iPod or USB storage devices.
MG725 can play back image files such as JPG(JPEG), BMP, and GIF.

Remote control keys in photos mode
•ESC : Go back to the previous menu
•REPEAT : Setup REPEAT function. “Folder Repeat ON” and “Folder Repeat OFF” is
available.
•ALL : Sort and show all the photo files regardless of folder structure. Press it once
more or press ESC to cancel the selection.
•SHOW : Choose a photo folder to be used for music slide show. Only one photo folder
can be selected. Press SHOW again or ESC to cancel the selection. Music slide show
can be executed only in Music mode. If no photo folder is selected, it selects all the
root files under the Photos folder as a default.
Slide show can be executed only for the JPEG file format. If there is no JPEG file
in the selected photo folder, “NO PHOTO FILE” message will appear when trying
music slide show in Music mode.
•DIGEST : Display photo thumbnails. Press it again or press ESC to escape from the
thumbnail screen. It may take time to finish the digest screen depending on the photo
file resolution. You can highlight the photo thumbnail using / , / keys and
play the highlighted photo using ENT, keys.
•ZOOM : Enlarge the photo during photo playback in the following sequence of 2X, 3X,
4X and Off. You can move around the enlarged photo using / , / keys.
•DISPLAY : Show the photo file information while playback. Press it again to cancel the
selection.
•/ : Rotate the photo while playback.
6.3 Music mode
Music mode reads and plays music files saved in iPod or USB storage devices.
MG725 can play back MP3, WMAand WAV music files.

File information on equalizer screen is determined by the ID3 Tag information. If
there is no ID3 Tag or wrong information, it can’t show the correct file information.
Remote control keys in music mode
•REPEAT : Setup REPEAT function. “ONE” , “ALL” and “OFF” is available.
•ALL(SHUFFLE) : Sort and show all the music files regardless of folder structure. Press
it once more or press ESC to cancel the selection. By the ALL key selection, you can
enjoy non DRM protected itunes song. All the paid itunes song is protected by DRM
(Digital Rights Management) technology. DRM song can be played back only in iPod
mode.
•DISPLAY : Show the music file information while playback. Press it again to cancel the
selection.
•SHOW : Start music slide show using the previously selected photo folder in Photos
mode. If no photo folder is selected ahead, it starts music slide show using all the
root files under the Photos folder. SHOW key works only when a music file is
highlighted in library screen or played back in equalizer screen. Press SHOW again or
ESC to cancel the selection.
•A/V SEL : Change the equalizer effect in music equalizer screen.
•/ : Reverse fast/ Forward fast during song playback.

6.4 Videos mode
Videos mode reads and plays video files saved in iPod or USB storage devices.
MG725 can play back video files such as MPEG1,2,4,DivX and Xvid.

Remote control keys in videos mode
•REPEAT : Setup REPEAT function. “ONE” , “ALL” and “OFF” is available.
•ALL : Sort and show all the video files regardless of folder structure. Press it once
more or press ESC to cancel the selection.
•DISPLAY : Show the video file information while playback. Press it again to cancel the
selection.
•/ : Reverse fast/ Forward fast during movie playback.
•SUB-T : Select the preferred subtitle language. This function is useful only with video
files on which multiple subtitle language are recorded.
•AUDIO : Select the preferred audio language. This function is useful only with video
files on which multiple audio soundtrack language are recorded.
If a video file does not include the audio file, or includes audio file whose format is
not supported by MG725, you can’t hear the sound. Please check the file format for
proper operation.

6.5 Files mode
Files mode shows all the files together in one screen regardless of the folder
name and file format. You can browse
and play a file if it is a playable file.
7 Firmware update
7.1 Saving firmware
Connect iPod or USB storage devices to the computer. And save the “*.rom” file to
the iPod or USB storage devices. (File name is *.ROM file).
7.2 Connecting iPod
Connect iPod or USB storage devices to the MG725.
Turn off MG725 and turn it on again.
7.3 Selecting firmware upgrade menu
Press SETUP key to go to the setup menu.
Go to PREFERENCES, UPGRADE MODE and select YES. Exit setup by pressing
SETUP key.
Firmware updating starts automatically.
Do not turn off the power during firmware update. If the power is turned off, it
causes fatal damage to the system.
7.4 Completing firmware update
After finishing update, power is turned off automatically.
Turn off mechanical switch. (Power off by remote controller is useless)
7.5 Removing the iPod or USB storage devices
Removing the iPod or USB storage devices from the MG725 and connect it to
computer. Delete the firmware in iPod or USB storage devices. (File name is *.ROM)

If you don’t delete the firmware saved in the iPod or USB storage devices,
unexpected firmware update can happen.
7.6 Checking Firmware update
Press SETUP key go to the setup
menu. Go to PREFERENCES, VERSION
MODE and ON to check the firmware version.

7.7 Starting the MG725 after firmware update is finished
After completing update of firmware process, re-connect the MG725 into iPod
and start again.
8 Setup system configuration.
Press SETUP key go to the setup menu.
Highlight the menu item you want using / ,
/ keys and press ENT for selection.

TRANSITION MODE allows you
to select a transition speed in photo
playback.
