STAGE
ID~IVE

Thank you for purchasing a Micromega
STAGE IDRIVE.
You are now the owner
of one of the most advanced and adaptable CDplayers ever produced.
Please read these instructions carefully in order to fully understand the many unique
functions of your player
CONTENTS
Upon opening the box! you will find the following accessories. Should any be missing! please contact your dealer.
*Mains Lead
*Remote Control with batteries.
*Stereo Phono / Phono Interconnect Cables (Stage) or mono (Drive).
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Carefully check the outside of the carton for any signs of obvious damage. It should have none.
Step 2. Very carefully remove the unit from the box! taking care to preserve all the packing. It is good practice to put the carton
and all the contents into an outer plastic bag and deposit it somewhere safe and dry. (When you upgrade your player to a higher
model itwill protect the casing from the possibility of damage if you take it back to your dealer in the full packing.) In the unlikely
event that your player needs to be sent back by carrier to the distributor! it MUST be sent in the original materials. Failure to
observe this will invalidate your warranty.
Step 3. Check that the mains voltage as stated on the player corresponds to your local power supply. If in doubt, please consult
your dealer.
Step 4. If you have purchased a STAGE player, insert the phono cables provided between the sockets (figs.13 & 14) on the
player's rear panel, and the sockets on your amplifier. (n.b. Be sure to select a LINE level or CD input on your amplifier! NOT the
"phono" or RIM record player input.) The digital output socket (fig.15) is only for connection to an outboard digital to analogue
converter. If you possess
DRIVE,
insertthe digital (mono) cable provided into the digital output (fig.15) and into an appropriate
digital input on you separate digital to analogue converter. Alternative sockets (figs.17!18) are provided for both optical and
AES/EBU digital connections. If your d to a converter is equipped with an AES/EBU input! this is to be prefered for optimum
performance.
Step 5. Plug the mains lead into the rear of your player's IECsocket (fig.16).
Step 6. Insert the mains plug into the wall socket. Switch on at the socket.
Step 7. Power the unit up by pressing ANY front panel function key or any key on the remote control handset. The player will
light up, displaying the legend "no diSC in the display window. (fig.9)

THE KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS
-(fig.C)
KEY NUMBER
;-
1
OPEN/CLOSE
- to open and close the disc tray.
(The user software for STAGE and DRIVEhas been written entirely in-house and we believe it is supremely easy to use, and logical in the
extreme. It is however difficult to describe. Rest assured that you will find yourself totally familiar with the incredibly flexible controls of your
player in very little time. )
When the player is in the "auto off" position, (see Other Features section) the open/close switch will light up the display and open the tray.
When in "display off" (see below) and "play" mode, the switch will light up the display.
When in "display off" and "stop" mode, the switch will reactivate the display and open the tray as well.
2 TIME - to display time information in three modes:
- track time elapsed (display shows
TIME)
- time elapsed since start of disc (TOTAL TIME)
- time remaining on disc (TOTAL REM TIME)
3 BRIGHTNESS
- choice of three levels of brightness, high, low and off. When in high or low settings, the STAGE or DRIVElogo and model
number (fig.10) will be displayed. When in off mode, a small red horizontal bar is present to show that the player is in "display off" not "auto
off" position.
HEADPHONES- when headphones are in use, the brightness control serves as the headphone volume control. When headphones are plugged
into the jack socket (fig.11), an appropriate logo is displayed (fig.12), and the STAGE model number disappears, to be replaced by a zero.
This is the headphone level indicator. Each depression of the Brightness control steps the volume up, to a maximum level of 9. Continuous
pressure on the Brightness control reduces the volume. Unless the player is unplugged from the mains or there is a power failure, your player
will remember the last headphone volume setting and automatically retum to it when you next plug in your headset.
n.b. Plugging in headphones does NOT disconnect your audio output, although your setting does effect volume. The nominal output level of
2v is reached at setting 9.
4.
DOUBLE SPEED
- replays discs at precisely twice the speed. Cuts recording time by half when used with one of the many cassette players
currently available with double-speed duplication facilities.
Single depression of this switch initiates double speed mode. When in play mode, the play symbol (fig.7) blinks. When in stop, the word
"time" will blink.
5.
REVERSE
MODE -single depression of this switch selects previous track.
Continuous depression operates Fast Reverse Scan. This latter function has two speeds. For the first three seconds, the audio output is muted
by 12db, allowing you to search for a particular section of the track. After three seconds the output is totally muted for a high speed search.
6. FORWARD MODE
-Single depression of this switch selects next track.
Continuous depression operates Fast Forward Scan, with the same operational technique as in reverse mode.
7. PLAY- press once to start disc.
Ifthe tray is open, one touch of the Play button closes the tray and starts the disc.
Ifthe machine isalready playing, one touch of the button
REPLAYS
the track.
Ifthe machine is in Pause, one depression of the key will return you to the beginning of the track that has already been selected, but in pause
mode.
8.
STOP/PAUSE/CLEAR
-single depression moves machine into and out of pause.
Continuous depression will activate Stop function.
Single depression whilst in stop mode will clear any program information.
All these functions are duplicated on the remote control. However, even greater flexibility is possible via the handset, such as track
Programming, Random, and Repeat Play.
Please refer to the separate Remote Control Manual enclosed with the player.
n.b. When in Pause mode, remember that the laser is switched on -it will operate as if it were still playing the disc as regards overall life of
the laser.
STAGE and DRIVE
- other features.
STAGE
and
DRIVE
have a number of unique functions - you will already have noted the Double Speed Play and Multi Function keys.
But even below the surface your player is quite unlike any other machine on the market.
All STAGEand DRIVEplayers are equipped with auto Standby. You will have noticed that your player is not equipped with an on/off switch.
There is no need. As soon as you connect STAGE
or DRIVE
to the mains supply it automatically moves into a stand-by mode. Subsequent
depression of ANY keyboard or handset key then moves the player into fully operational mode, and all legends will light. Should the player
not be used for a period exceeding ten minutes, it will automatically switch back into Auto Standby, therefore ensuring that all audio circuits
are kept at optimum temperature. Greater longevity and sonic performance are thus guaranteed.
STAGEand
DRIVE
have a push-tray function - if you gently push the tray in, it will close and start playing the disc. If the tray is opened and the
unit not used for ten minutes, the tray will automatically close and your player go into auto-standby mode.

CARE OF STAGE & DRIVE
This, as by now you are certainly aware, is a very sophisticated piece of modem engineering, yet it is robustly built to operate in the real world.
A few minutes perusing these commonsense points will ensure that your player will continue to give you satisfaction for years to come.
*Do not clean the casework with anything remotely abrasive. Polishes containing silicone should be avoided, as the oil they contain will
adversely effect electrical contacts. It is permissible to use proprietary foam cleaners sparingly, but breathing on the machine and then gently
machine wiping with a soft, lint-free cloth should be all that is needed. Solvents must NEVER be used.
*Please do not open the casing. Whilst we are very proud of the quality of our internal construction, not only could you cause expensive
damage to your purchase, but the damage to yourself could be irreparable. Electricity can be lethal. If anything should need to be done, see
your authorised Micromega dealer.
*All upgrades MUST be carried out by your dealer, who will also issue you with the requisite paperwork authenticating and registering your
upgrade guarantee.
*The co-axial, ACUTRANS-equipped digital output is provided ONLY for connection to an outboard digital to analogue converter. For further
details, please contact your authorised Micromega dealer.
UPGRADES
With your Micromega STAGE and DRIVE this is easy. Each machine is designed to be upgradable; what is more, wherever possible, it will be
upgradable at NO COST PENALTY.
Just think of it. No huge losses in value at trade-in - no second-hand player of which to dispose.
By designing the internal architecture in a modular form, it is possible to place the digital to analogue circuits on a separate board. Upgrading
your player is therefore devastatingly simple.
In order to progress from one model in the range to another, simply make an appointment to retum your player to your Micromega dealer who
will convert it for you to any higher level.
There and then - In minutes - With no fuss.
As soon as the new circuit board is plugged in, and you have rushed home to re-install it in your system, your player will even proclaim its new
identity in the display window.
Micromega are committed to ensuring that their advanced research and development facilities and unique approach will continue to make
upgrades available whenever and wherever possiole.
