Assembly Instructions
Large pictures are at the end of the instructions.
1. Modifying the chassis.
•Be sure power is disconnected from unit.
•Remove 12 (twelve) top cover screws and
top cover. Put in safe place.
•If the chassis doesn’t have cutouts for
DB25s, go to appendix.
•Remove the two middle block-off plates
from the rear panel of the chassis.
•Mount DB25 to header connector in the
opening closest to the power supply on the
chassis.
•Mount the switch assembly/DB25 blank in
the hole next to the DB25 connector just
installed. Mount with switches away from
the power supply side and the LED towards
the power supply.
•Mount the BNC cable assembly into the
remaining space on the chassis, far right,
when looking at the chassis from the rear
with the BNC connectors close to the switch
assembly.
•Apply labels for added switches and
connectors.
•See picture.
Figure 1
2. Changing the power supply.
•Be sure power is disconnected from unit.
•Remove 4 (four )power supply cover screws and
put power supply cover in a safe place.
•Unplug power supply cable assembly from the
power supply board and from all preamp cards
and set aside. Note orientation of Molex
connectors for reassembly.
•Unplug front panel LED connector from power
supply board. Note orientation for reassembly.
•Unplug four connectors at the power switch.
Note orientation for reassembly. Remove six
screws holding the power supply chassis to the
main chassis from the bottom of the unit.
Remove the existing power supply assembly
from the HV3D unit.
•See picture.
Figure 2
•Place new power supply assembly in
chassis.
•Mount chassis with six screws removed
earlier. (Bottom of unit).
•BE SURE input power module is set to
correct voltage for your location. Next
to the power cord socket is a window
that displays the current setting.
•Plug switch harness into front
panel power switch. Brown wires
are on top
•See picture.
•Plug front panel LED connector into
power supply board.

3. Mounting the ADD-96 board assembly.
•Mount ADD-96 assembly to chassis using six
6/32 by 3/16”pan head screws.
•Connect switch assemblies to ADD-96 board.
•44.1K/48K switch assembly to SW1 3 pin
header.
•X1/X2 switch assembly to SW3 three-pin
header. This is the switch in the middle of the
switch/LED assembly.
•Note that the SW1 and SW3 connections are
dependent on the orientation of the connector.
Tracing the wires from the connector up to the
switch will help in connecting the correct way.
Monitor the clock or AES data output and be
sure the switches make the correct changes in
frequency while the unit is in internal clock
mode. If not, rotate connector 180
o
•Plug DB25 assembly to header J10.
•Clock out BNC to J16. This is the BNC
connector closest to the LED.
•Clock in BNC to J13.
4. Modifying the HV3 pre amp cards.
•Remove the front panel from the unit using a
3/16” Allen wrench. Remove the center screw
from the center of the front panel on the inside
of the chassis. Put the front panel in a safe
place.
•Remove the power supply harness from each
pre amp card if not already removed.
•The input and output signal cables can remain
connected during this modification.
•Remove each of the pre amp cards by removing
the knob using a 1/16” (if there are two set
screws) or 5/64” (if there is only one set screw)
Allen wrench, removing one screw going through
the front panel of the chassis, and two screws
on the bottom of the chassis per card.
•Lift out the pre amp card to get access to the
lower right corner of the card.
•Remove R53 and R54 from each pre amp card.
Replace with solid wire jumpers. R53/R54 are
located on the lower right area of the pre amp
card, next to the J5 connector
•Plug in Molex power supply cable assembly.
Start with the power connector for pre amp
card number one. Continue for the
remaining seven pre amp cards, then the
power supply circuit board and lastly the
power connector for the ADD-96 card,
connector J10. See picture.
Figure 6
5. Connecting the pre amp cards to the
AD-D96.
•Note the colors of the wires at the Molex
plugs. The wire in the center position is the
+ signal. This + signal goes to J5 pin 2 on
each pre amp card. J5 pin 2 is the pad that
connects to the end of the jumper in the
R54 position. Connect the other
–signal wire to J5 pin 1. Pin 1 is usually the
square pad and connects to the jumper in
the R53 position on each pre amp card.
•Solder the two wires to each pre amp card.
Note the color coding, and which hole in J5
of the pre amp card each color is soldered
to. Route wires to left side of the ADD-96
card as viewed from the front of the unit.
Wires should sit between the back of the
pre amp cards and the side of the ADD-96
card facing the front of the unit.
•See picture for wire Routing.

6. Post Modification Testing
•Double check all connections, etc.
before continuing.
•Plug in unit to suitable mains power.
•Plug AES snake into DB25 connector on
back of unit.
•Connect inputs as usual.
•Plug AES outputs into next piece of
gear in the recording chain.
•Plug in external clock, if used. If
external clock is used, set jumper SW2
on the ADD-96 circuit board for ‘EXT’.
SW2 is located next to the two three
pin Molex connectors that connect to
the clock BNC connectors on the rear
panel.
•Be sure to set switches on back of unit
to desired mode if using internal clock.
•Power up the unit.
•If using EXT clock, the lock LED on the
rear panel should be lit provided that a
suitable clock is connected. You can use
either AES or Word clock for external
sync. Be sure to set the inside jumpers
for the type of clock that is to be
connected.
•J12 selects between word clock and
AES clock.
•The unit is ready for operation.
Appendix
•Older chassis need to be modified to
accommodate the AD-D96 kit.
•Using a metal nibbling tool*, carefully
cut the metal in between the option
XLR holes on channels 5 through 8
(three places).
•CAUTION the edges will be sharp
•The cut should be 1/16” away from the
screw holes.
*Nibbling tools can be ordered from Millennia.
They are approximately $20 USD
