TheModel16bstudioseriesforbanjois aquick mount 2Micthat “has itall”.Specificationsforthe
Model16b arethesameas forournewModel3quickmountforguitar –onlythemountingmechanism
is different.FortheModel16b,weuseourstudioseriesmicswiththewidest &flattestfrequency
response,and includetheoptionto createamono linelevelsignal,orabalanced XLRmiclevelsignal.

Upperright:EPS-1batterypowersupply(oneAA),plustheoptionalbelt clip and1/4”-XLRadapter.
Upperleft:EPS-2phantompowersupplywithtwo 1/4”-miniXLRcablesfortheEPS-2
Bottom:2Micassemblyforbanjowith two micsmountedon to separate6” long, 150mmgoosenecks
attachedtoa1/4”output jack.Inparticular:
§Theoutput jackis secured tothebanjobytwopadded hooks–onehookisattachedtothebarrelof
theoutputjack,whilethe2dhookis attachedto theend oftheelasticcord.
§Thehooksattach tothehoopbracketsthattightenthebanjo’s head,andtheelasticcordprovides
enoughtensiontoholdthe2Micassemblyinplace.

Thefollowingdiagram showsthe2Micassemblymountedon to aresonatorbanjo.Onegooseneckis
bent sothatitrestsjust abovethehead,and immediatelybehind thebridge–awayfromtheplayer’s
hands.Thesecond gooseneckrestsalongsidetherim, and justabovetheflange.

TheModel16bcan createeitheramiclevelsignal–preferred,usingtheEPS-2 phantompowersupply,
oralinelevelsignal usingtheEPS-1batterypowersupply.
PartE:AdditionalInformation
1. TheModel16bis provided with twoseparatepowersupplies.Which powersupplyyou choosewill
determinethestrengthoftheoutputsignaloftheModel16b.
2. EPS-1:Isbatteryoperated usingoneAA–1.5vbattery. Standard mono guitar cableswill connectthe
Model16btotheEPS-1.Theoutput jackof theEPS-1 actsas aswitchtoturn thebatteryonwhena
plugisinserted.Batterylifeis approximatelytwoyears.TheEPS-1 producesalinelevelsignalof 3.5K
ohms, andis compatiblewith most guitareffectsdevicesandDIboxes.Anoptionalbeltclip is
providedfortheEPS-1.
3. EPS-2:Isoperatedby9-48vphantompowerfromaP.A.mixerorotherphantompowersource.Use
theminiXLR-1/4”cable–suppliedwiththeModel16b,to connectfromthe2MictotheEPS-2.
OutputfortheEPS-2 is astandardXLRmiccable.DonotplugtheEPS-2 directlytotheinputsofthe
mixerorsnake.TheEPS-2 canbeclippedtotheperformer’s beltusingthe3'miniXLR-1/4”cable,or
can layonthefloorusingthe6ft miniXLR-1/4”cable–both3'and6'miniXLR-1/4”cablesare
supplied with theModel16b.OutputfortheEPS-2 is 500 ohm,balanced.
4. Wheneverpossible,itis recommendedthattheEPS-2 is used.TheEPS-2 producesabalanced mic
levelsignaland is protectedfrom60 cyclehumorinterferencefromCB radiosand canuselongcable
runswithout loss of sound quality.

5. TheEPS-1 maybebestformusicianswho want on-stagecontroloftheirsound usingaDI. TheEPS-1
mayalso bethebest choiceforusewithamplifiers, effectsdevices, orotherequipmentthatneedsa
linelevelmonoinput.Often,usingthe1/4”-XLRadapter–supplied withtheModel16b,and
connectingintoanXLRinput will improveperformancefortheEPS-1.
