1GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1. Instruction manual
This manual is a general guide for the installation, use and maintenance of "PAD-V" series "adiabatic"
cooling systems.
Before carrying out any work or activity on or with the machine, carefully read all the instructions in this
manual; failure to observe the instructions provided herein may lead to problems for which MITA
Cooling Technologies S.r.l. shall not be held liable.

The instruction manual must be taken care of by a designated person and kept in a suitable place so that it
is always in good condition and readily available for consultation. It must always be easy to find so it can be
consulted by machine operators and must always accompany the machine in the case of transfer or resale.
CAUTION
The manual must be kept with care and replaced if it deteriorates
and/or becomes illegible.

1.4. Machine data
1.4.1.
Machine data plate
The adiabatic coolers built by MITA Cooling Technologies S.r.l. come with an identification data plate
affixed to the exterior wall near the control panel [Fig.1].

This plate indicates all the machine's technical data together with its year of construction and
serial number [Fig. 02].
CAUTION
It is strictly forbidden to remove or tamper with the identification data plates on
the machine.

Accompanying documents
Every MITA Cooling Technologies S.r.l. cooler is supplied with a “DECLARATION OF EC CONFORMITY”,
in accordance with Directive 2006/42/EC Annex II A) –Machinery Directive and also complies with the
following European Directives:
Directive 2014/30/EU –Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC);
Directive 2014/35/EU –Low Voltage Directive.
Said documents are provided as an appendix to this manual.
1.5. After-sales technical assistance
Whenever requesting technical assistance for the machine, always provide the following information:
data given on the identification data plate (machine model, serial number and year of
construction);
approximate number of hours use;
detailed information on the defects encountered.
For any assistance, contact the Manufacturer's Assistance Service.
CAUTION
The Manufacturer declines all liability for accidents involving persons or things caused by a
failure to observe the instructions and regulations provided in this manual or the non-
observance of the safety and accident prevention regulations in force in the country of
machine use.
1.6. Warranty
Any damage resulting from wear and tear of machine parts caused by normal use of the machine
is excluded from the warranty.
MITA Cooling Technologies S.r.l. declines all liability and shall not accept any claims for injuries to people or
damage to property caused by one or more of the following:
inappropriate use of the machine;
failure to observe the use and specific functions of the machine, its limits and capacity;
inadequate or negligent use, inspection or maintenance of the machine;
failure to observe the scheduled maintenance inspections and required checks;
modifications to the machine or its components which have not been expressly approved by
MITA Cooling Technologies S.r.l.
the use of accessories, spare parts and consumables which are not suitable for the machine's use.
1.7. Testing
The machine was tested during the production phases on the manufacturer's premises.

2SAFETY
2.1. Identification of operating personnel
Operating personnel are the team of people assigned by the user to perform the various production
and maintenance activities based on specific skills and qualifications. Said personnel must:
•be fully familiar with the indications provided in this document on which specific instruction and
training has been provided;
•have acquired experience and knowledge in the specific sphere of work.
The presence of the following symbols means that the operations described can only be carried out by
specific qualified personnel.
OPERATOR
Person responsible for the operating phases who in complete autonomy can:
•within the sphere of his competence, anticipate dangers in the work cycle or during the
adjustment of parts and correct any irregularities;
•guarantee the quality of the production he is in charge of;
•ensure good equipment and system efficiency;
•ensure adequate cleanliness.
MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
Person with specific and certified qualifications responsible for performing mechanical
work on equipment, who in complete autonomy can:
•perform maintenance, disassembly and technical assistance operations and replace and
reassemble mechanical parts or equipment;
•identify mechanical breakages/damage and determine the relative causes;
•perform calibration and lubrication operations;
•foresee the hazards linked to these operations.
MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN
Person with specific and certified qualifications responsible for performing electrical work
on equipment, who in complete autonomy can:
•perform maintenance, disassembly and assistance operations and replace and
reassemble electrical parts or equipment;
•identify electrical and electronic breakdowns/damage and determine the relative causes;
•perform calibration operations;
•foresee the hazards linked to these operations.
Mita Cooling Technologies S.r.l. SKILLED TECHNICIAN
Expert technician appointed by the manufacturer who is able and qualified to perform
the same tasks as the:
•Operator;
•Maintenance mechanic;
•Maintenance electrician;
can execute specific activities (e.g. mechanical, electrical and electronic) which are
outside the competence or scope of work performed autonomously by the user (e.g.
supervision of installation, testing, adjustments, optimisation, software updates, etc.).
The manufacturer, in the absence of a specific contractual agreement, can in any case
guarantee as required, the intervention of an expert technician via the post-sales
assistance service.

2.2. Design criteria
During the machine design phase, the principles and concepts set out in the relative paragraphs of the
harmonised standards listed below were adopted:
•UNI EN ISO 12100: 2010
Safety of machinery —General principles for design —Risk assessment and risk reduction
•UNI EN ISO 14120: 2015
Safety of machinery —Guards —General requirements for the design and construction of fixed
and movable guards
•UNI EN ISO 13857: 2020
Safety of machinery —Safety distances to prevent hazard zones being reached by upper and
lower limbs
Compliance with the relevant paragraphs of the aforementioned harmonised standards has made it possible to
eliminate or reduce risks in the best possible way, both during normal operation and during adjustment and
maintenance work, throughout the machine's life cycle .
The components used have been carefully chosen from those available on the market and the materials which
make up the machine (and its accessory tools) are free from risks to people's health and safety. All parts
supplied by third parties are CE marked (when required) and comply with the relevant reference directives. All
components have been strictly checked in compliance with the quality standards prescribed by the regulations
in force.
Furthermore, the necessary warning and protective measures against residual risks have been adopted for the
machine (see following paragraphs).
2.3. Materials found on the machine
None of the materials used to construct the machine components is dangerous for the people who interact with
the machine at any time during its life cycle.
Specifically, the materials used to construct the machine are mainly:
•ferrous materials (predominantly);
•plastic materials (e.g. the casings on the control panels and for electrical cable insulation);
•copper-based materials (e.g. for wiring and electrical conductors).
During operation, the machine does not emit hazardous mists, dust or fumes.
The machine uses normal oils and greases to lubricate the work tools and drive components.
Unless otherwise indicated, all the power supplies, utilities and set-ups indicated in the paragraph on machine
installation are the user's responsibility.

2.4. Protection Devices and Solutions
The devices and construction solutions described below have been adopted for the machine.
•Fixed metal guards that shield off moving drive components.
The active safety devices described below have been adopted for the machine.
•Emergency stop button located on the control panel. In emergency status, all the relative
actuators are disconnected from power supplies. Machine reset after an emergency situation
must always be performed locally on the control panel.
2.5. Warnings concerning residual risks
In order to avoid any hazardous conditions for people or damage to the machine caused by residual risks, i.e.
those risks that persist despite all safety measures adopted, or by potential risks that may not necessarily be
obvious, the Manufacturer recommends that all operators, maintenance technicians and personnel who interact
with the machine adhere strictly to the warnings indicated in the following pages.
CAUTION:
always observe the warnings and indications on the signs affixed to the machine and operate
exclusively in accordance with the instructions provided in this manual.
2.5.1
Lifting and handling
Residual risks during lifting and handling operations
During lifting and handling operations, there are risks associated with:
•operations performed on the machine by unqualified, untrained, uninstructed or incorrectly
equipped personnel;
•incorrect choice or incorrect use of the means of transport and/or equipment (for example, crane,
hoist, winch, forklift truck) used to handle the machine components;
•crushing of personnel involved in handling operations;
•loss of load stability during the operations in question;
•projection of moving parts of the machine that cannot be removed or properly secured;
•impact of parts or components of the machine against people or things caused by unexpected
movements of the machine or due to incorrect behaviour on the part of the operators involved
in the operation;
•impact or dropping of machine components resulting in damage to the machine itself and
relative guards;
•uncomfortable working posture or excessive strain for operators involved in transporting and
handling the machine components.
Personal protective equipment required
Precautions to be taken during lifting and handling operations
During lifting and handling operations, the precautions set out in this paragraph must be observed.
•Only assign the execution of these operations to specialised personnel who have been trained
in machinery handling procedures and are able to select and safely use the right means of
transport and handling equipment for the specific circumstances (for example, crane, hoist,

winch, forklift or pallet jack).
•Follow the instructions given in the specific paragraph concerning machine lifting, handing and
installation.
•Follow the standard precautions for the safe use of the forklifts, hoists or lifting equipment
considered suitable for carrying out lifting and handling operations (considering their maximum
hoisting capacity). In particular, avoid bumps and overturning; for example, when using a forklift
truck it is essential to insert the forks under the supporting structure of the load; when using a
hoist it is necessary to check that the load is correctly rigged to make sure there is no risk of it
being dropped during lifting and handling; when using a crane, a guide rope may be required to
avoid hazardous shifting of the load.
•Check and if necessary make sure that all parts that could move are correctly secured.
•Check and if necessary make sure that all piping on the machine or auxiliary equipment has
been emptied.
•Never, under any circumstances, lift the various parts of the machine by grabbing hold of non-
structural elements (e.g. cables or sheaths).
•Make sure there is no-one in or near the area where lifting, handling and unloading operations
are performed. Always keep a safe distance.
•Always give out a warning that manoeuvres are about to commence.
•Never pass under suspended loads.
•Never travel on suspended loads.
2.5.2
Installation and connection
Residual risks during installation and connection operations
During installation and connection operations, there are risks associated with:
•operations performed on the machine by unqualified, untrained, uninstructed or incorrectly
equipped personnel;
•contact with live parts;
•impact, crushing or dragging and entrapment caused by components of the machine being
handled;
•tripping or falling over the machine's supply connections;
•damage to the machine during installation and connection operations.
Personal protective equipment required
Precautions to be taken during installation and connection operations
During installation and connection operations, the precautions set out in this paragraph must be observed.
•Follow the safety instructions given in heading 3.4.1 - Lifting and Handling when performing the
necessary operations to move the machine components.
•Use auxiliary equipment and, in any case, any other machinery or tool (electric or pneumatic)
only after having understood the indications provided in the relative Use and Maintenance
Manuals or after having followed specific and formal training.
•Choose an installation site that:
•provides adequate space for normal use as well maintenance of the machine,
including room for any peripheral equipment;
•allows you to correctly make the connections needed for the machine to function.

•For the electrical power supply, connect theearthing system before making anyother connection
to the mains.
•Protect the ducts of the connections to the power supplies using rigid sheaths or suitable cable
glands.
•Perform the required interventions using standard work tools (ladders, harnesses, various tools)
and paying maximum attention to elements that could represent a tripping hazard of cause cuts
and bruises.
•The machine work positionscannot be occupied until themachine has beentested: the presence
of any assembly or installation errors could, in fact lead to serious accidents for the operators in
charge of machine operations. Testing must be carried out by the manufacturer's technicians.
•Before proceeding with the testing and putting into service of the , check that none of its parts
show signs of physical damage due to impact, tears or abrasions and that all the connections
present have been made correctly and without the possibility of disconnection.
•To avoid malfunctions, check that the machine is perfectly level.
2.5.3
Use
Residual risks during machine use
During machine use, there are risks associated with:
•use of the machine by unqualified, untrained, uninstructed or incorrectly equipped personnel;
•contact with hot or overheated parts during and at the end of processing, for example
•the batteries (external temperature of about 60°C);
•electric motors, in the event of malfunctions;
•moving parts, due to friction, in the event of malfunctions;
•exposure to noise during operations;
•contact with live parts in the event of incorrect maintenance;
•contact with pressurised and/or hot fluids (maximum temperature 90°C) should any valve or pipe
rupture;
•flying particles in the event of:
•breakage of working parts, with projection of the same or of part thereof and/or
the parts being processed;
•rupture of components in the fluid distribution, containment and management
system, with projection of the same or part thereof or of pressurised fluids
•presence of materials/foreign bodies, projected outside the machine guards.
Precautions to be taken during machine use
During machine use, the precautions set out in this paragraph must be observed.
•Only use the machine if all the protection and safety devices are intact.
•Do not remove the safety devices or guards installed on the machine for any reason.
•Observe all safety and danger signs affixed to the machine:
•Make sure that all safety and danger signs affixed to the machine are always legible.
•Do not use the machine in any way other than as indicated in the section Intended Use.
•Do not work on or with the machine without having first read the whole of this manual carefully.
•Use auxiliary equipment and, in any case, any other machinery or tool (electric or pneumatic)
only after having understood the indications provided in the relative Use and Maintenance
Manuals or after having followed specific and formal training.
•Report any abnormal operating conditions immediately.
•Do not perform any operations (including cleaning) while the machine is running or near hot
surfaces.
•Do not attempt to make the machine perform any operations not contemplated in the instructions
provided in this manual.
•Do not place equipment/pipes/ducts on the machine or any of its components.

2.5.4
Maintenance and Demolition
Residual risks during maintenance and demolition operations
During maintenance and demolition, there are risks associated with:
•all the risks mentioned in the previous paragraphs;
•risk of biomechanical overload, due to the weight of the external panels (fixed guards) on the
machine, which need to be removed to access the batteries for maintenance purposes, weighing
approximately 10 kg;
•operations performed on the machine by unqualified, untrained, uninstructed or incorrectly
equipped personnel;
•contact with live parts of the electrical system;
•impact, crushing or dragging and entrapment caused by components of the machine being
handled;
•ejection of pressurised fluid;
•forgetting objects on the machine at the end of maintenance or adjustment operations;
•contact with hot machine parts;
•contact with dust, fibres, residual chemical agents and/or biological agents present in the
batteries and in the water collection tank;
•falling from a height (during any work performed at height).
Personal protective equipment required
Precautions to be taken during maintenance and demolition operations
During maintenance and demolition operations, the precautions set out in this paragraph must be observed.
•Appoint suitable personnel to lift and handle the external panels (fixed guards), which have a
weight of about 10 kg. It is, however, advisable to have this operation performed by two
operators.
•Do not get onto the machine: none of its parts are to be considered walk surfaces. Use standard
aerial work platforms or an equivalent system.
•Always wait for parts to cool down before commencing work on them.
•Perform the required work using standard work tools (and always wearing the necessary PPE.
•Maintenance and demolition operations must be carried out by qualified and specially trained
personnel only.
•Check that all the power supplies have been properly cut off and that no-one can turn them back
on before the work in question has been completed (use padlocks, appropriate signs and
consolidated work procedures). Also check that any residual energy has been discharged before
carrying out any work.
•When performing maintenance on the top section of the machine, personnel must be kitted out
with fall protection equipment and must access the areas in question using a cherry picker or
platform ladder with side rails in compliance with the regulations in force in the country of use.
•Take the necessary precautions to avoid contamination through contact with water containing
bacteria.
•As far as is possible, perform work on the machine and piping only after they have been emptied.
Before restarting the machine, make sure the system has been thoroughly cleaned.
•Obtain the necessary work permits and check that all the procedures for preparing the machine
for maintenance operations have been carried out correctly.

•Use auxiliary equipment and, in any case, any other machinery or tool (electric or pneumatic)
only after having understood the indications provided in the relative Use and Maintenance
Manuals or after having followed specific and formal training.
•Never use petrol, solvents or flammable liquids to cleaning components; use approved
commercial non-flammable, non-toxic detergents.
•Do not carry out alterations, transformations or applications on the machine that could affect its
safety, without first obtaining written authorisation from the Manufacturer.
•Before restarting the machine, make sure no-one is carrying out maintenance operations near
the machine and that all safety devices on the machine have been reset.
•Do not climb up or down the machine.
•When handling lubricants, do not smoke, eat or drink. Comply with the regulations in force
concerning the handling of mineral oils and greases.
•Do not strike the machine structure, components or panel with equipment or anything else.
•Do not tamper with the machine components.
IMPORTANT:
Cooler maintenance staff should follow the recommendations provided in EUROVENT 9-
7 guidelines (Ed. 2011) to keep cooling systems safe and efficient.
