Precautions
• Alwaysreadcarefullyandunderstandinstruc-
tionspriortousingthisequipment
• Wearsafetyglassesatalltimes
• Operatevehicleonlyinawellventilatedarea,
andawayfrompotentialsourcesofameor
ignition
• Priortoandduringoperationoftheengine,
makesureallequipmentcomponents,body
parts,andpersonalclothingareclearofrotating
enginecomponents
• Avoidburnsbyremainingcautiousofengine
partsthatmaybecomehotwhentheengineis
running
• Neverleaveavehicleunattendedwhileper-
formingthisprocedure
Procedures
Bleeding Air from the Power Steering System
1. Checkthelevelofpowersteeringuidinthe
reservoir.ItshouldbebetweentheMAXand
MINlevelwhentheuidisatnormalambient
temperature.Adjustthelevelasnecessary.
2. RemovethereservoircapandinsertthePower
SteeringEvacAdapterintotheneckoftheres-
ervoiruntilitissnug.
3. Connectthehandvacuumpumpandreservoir
totheevacadapterasshowningure1.
NOTE: Theuidbottleisrequiredtoprevent
uidfromenteringthepump.
4. Operatethevacuumpumptoapply20-25in-
Hg(68-85kPa)vacuumtothesystem.Main-
tainthevacuumforatleastthreeminutes.
WARNING: Topreventdamagetothepump,
donotruntheenginewhilethesystemisunder
vacuum.
5. Releasethevacuumandremovetheevacplug
fromthereservoir
6. Top-offtheuidlevelasrequired
7. Repeattheprocessuntiltheuidlevelremains
stable
8. Starttheengineandturnthewheellock-to-lock
threetovetimes
WARNING:Donotholdthewheelatthestops.
9. Stoptheengineandcheckthepowersteering
systemforleaks.
10.Checktheuidinthereservoirforbubbles
andcheckthelevel.Ifbubblesarepresentor
theuidlevelislow,repeattheprocedureas
necessary.
