original warranty period. After expiration of the applicable warranty period, the PURCHASER shall be charged HPS™’ current prices for parts and labour,
plus any transportation for any repairs or replacement.
ALL EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO THE WARRANTY PERIOD. NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WILL APPLY AFTER THIS PERIOD.

reasonable period of time within the warranty period of the product; they will, at the option of HPS™, be repaired or replaced.
IV. Defects or damages caused by modifications and repairs effected by the original PURCHASER or third parties not authorized in the manual.
Condition of Returned Products
HPS™ will not accept for repair, replacement, or credit any product which is asserted to be defective by the PURCHASER, or any product for which paid or

When products are used with toxic chemicals, or in an atmosphere that is dangerous to the health of humans, or is environmentally unsafe, it is the
responsibility of the PURCHASER to have the product cleaned by an independent agency skilled and approved in the handling and cleaning of
contaminated materials before the product will be accepted by HPSTM for repair and/or replacement.
In the course of implementing this policy, HPSTM Customer Service Personnel may inquire of the PURCHASER whether the product has been contaminated
with or exposed to potentially corrosive, reactive, harmful, or radioactive materials, gases, or chemicals when the PURCHASER requests a return

damage or do not allow the limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts. If such laws apply, the limitations or exclusions expressed herein may not
apply to PURCHASER.
II. Unless otherwise explicitly agreed in writing, it is understood that these are the only written warranties given by HPS™. Any statements made by any
persons, including representatives of HPS™, which are inconsistent or in conflict with the terms of the warranty shall not be binding on HPS™ unless

General safety information
The safety instructions should always be followed during installation and operation of the 900 Series USB
Converter.
Pass safety information to all users.
Safety Precautions:
Electrical connections. Pins are not protected against wrong electrical connections.
Wrong electrical connections can cause permanent damage to the USB Converter and/or
the connected transducer.
Internal fuse. The USB Converter internal 24VDC power supply is equipped with a
thermal fuse. The fuse is self recoverable and should not be changed.
Connectability. The 900 Series USB Converter was designed to operate one transducer
at a time. Please only connect one transducer to the 15 pin DSUB connector.
Current limitation. Due to the limited current output of USB ports the 900 Series USB
Converter can deliver a maximum of 2.5W of power. This is satisfactory for most
transducers in the product line. However, hot cathode transducers like the 979B and 999
are not supported at present. The Description contains a list of compatible transducers.
Service and Repair. Do not substitute parts or modify the USB Converter. Do not install
substituted parts or perform any unauthorized modification to the product. Return to a
MKS Calibration and Service Center for service and repair to ensure all of the safety
features are maintained.
CE marking. This product complies with CE norms EN 61326 and generic
industry EN 61000-6-2. In order for the 900 Series USB Converter to comply
with the norms, it is necessary for the USB cable not to exceed 3m in length.

Unpacking
Before unpacking your 900 Series USB Converter, check all surfaces of the packing material for shipping
damage. Inspect for visible damage. If found, notify the carrier immediately.
Please make sure that your 900 Series USB Converter package contains these items:

Disposal (European Union only)
The 900 Series USB Converter is manufactured according to the RoHS directive.
For the benefit of the environment, at the end of life of the 900 Series USB
Converter, it should not be disposed in the normal unsorted waste stream. It
should be deposited at an appropriate collection point or facility to enable
recovery or recycling.

Description
The 900 Series USB Converter is a communication port interface for 900 series vacuum transducers. It
provides easy access to the digital interface and features full auto detection of baud rate and address of the
attached transducer. Communication with the transducer is achieved through the 900 Series USB Converter
communication port which emulates a standard serial communication port on the host system.
The 900 Series USB Converter can be used with the following transducers:
901P, 902, 910, 921, 922, 925, 925C, 971, 972, 973 and 974.
USB Converter overview
The 900 Series USB Converter is equipped with three set point relay status LEDs. The LEDs illuminate when
the corresponding relay is set.
If the connected transducer is without mechanical relays (and only has set points via the digital
interface), the set point diodes will not illuminate.
The status LED indicates the status of the communication with the attached transducer.
Red No transducer connected.
Green Contact with transducer established.
Green, flashing Data is being sent to / received from the transducer.
The USB port can be connected to both USB1.1 and USB2.0 ports with the supplied cable. It is, however, a
native USB2.0 Full Speed device (12MBps).

Driver installation
The 900 Series USB Converter connects to a PC using a standard USB port (powered).
It is important to install the driver before connecting the device to the USB port.
Please use the following guide in order to correctly install the 900 Series USB Converter on computers
equipped with Windows 2000, XP or Vista (32 and 64bit). The actual screens may vary according to the
specific operating system.
Step 1.
Insert the driver CD and run the file PreInstaller.exe in the “900SeriesUSBConverter” directory.
The following screen appears:
Click on “Install” to begin the driver preinstallation.
During the installation the following screen may appear. Be sure to click “Continue Anyway” to complete the
driver installation.
Step 2.
The driver for the USB Converter has now been installed. Plug in the product using the supplied USB cable.
The following system tray notification will be displayed when the USB Converter is ready for use.

Using the 900 Series USB Converter
The USB Converter installs a Virtual Com Port (VCP) in the system and features full auto detection of baud
rate and communication standard (RS232 / RS485). The communication program should be configured to
the following parameters at all times:
115200 bps
1 stop bit
No parity
In order to communicate with the attached transducer the user simply has to choose the correct
communication port and use a serial communication program. We recommend Docklight
(http://www.docklight.de) by Flachmann und Heggelbacher. The program has a lot of features which makes
communicating with serial ports easy.
A list of the system communication ports can be found, in Windows 2000/XP, using the following guide:
Right click “My Computer” and choose “Properties”.
Go to “Hardware” and click on “Device Manager”.
Look under “Ports” and a list resembling the following appears:
On the picture above the attached USB Converter shows up as COM4. Note that the virtual comport may be
assigned to a different port than the one indicated above.
Loss of communication can occur when unplugging and reinserting the USB Converter (not the
transducer). If this happens closing and re-opening the communication port (in the communication
software) generally resolves the issue.
