General
The n-DNet™ Concentrator is a key component in managing segments of the Mobix
patented
n-Dimensiona Network (see box for n-DNet™ description.) On one end, the
Concentrator contro s communications with a c uster of up to 1000 meters and on the
other end it connects to the MDM Server. The Concentrator communicates with the
meters over the simu taneous RF and PLC n-Dimensiona mesh network. Mobix
advanced n-DNet™ techno ogy provides unprecedented advantages in data avai abi ity,
so ution topo ogy and price/performance.
Actua meter connectivity is achieved either by a meter embedded/connected n-DNet™
component or through a network node such as an n-DNet™ Hub. To connect to the
MDM server, the Concentrator supports mu tip e IP based options such as wire ess
GPRS, LAN or Wi-Fi.

Major Components
The Concentrator has many major hardware components on board – a together bring
the power and f exibi ity to adapt it for a most any end system.
•Power supply
oSmart protecting operationa power supp y unit. The
hardware is equipped with power stabi izers and fi ters,
protecting the board from hazardous input vo tage eve s and
ensuring the operationa power is steady and strong.
oThe PS unit is bui t to meet internationa safety and noise
fi tering standards.
•Internal Modem (incase of an upgrade)
oThe concentrator needs to communicate not just with the
meters but a so with the ‘outside wor d’ - it communicates
with a remote server (Management) for receiving commands
or sending information.
oThe concentrator has an interna GPRS modem for that
cause.
•Secondary serial communication ports ( S232)
oIn addition to the seria port associated with the modem, the
concentrator provides 2 second seria RS232 ports, a owing
for connecting to an n-DNet NIC, PLC modem, RF
transceiver, B uetooth device or a direct seria connection to
a meter.
oAn externa seria connector is ocated on the concentrator
box and used to connect a handhe d reader for data
down oad.
•TC
oFor providing an accurate time keeping even without externa
updates the concentrator inc udes an interna Rea Time
C ock mechanism. It is capab e of keeping the time and date

•Memory
oIn addition to a arge interna RAM, the concentrator is
equipped with a 2MB f ash memory for storing data. This
memory is non-vo ati e and can store the data even without
power.
•n-DNet NIC
oThe concentrator communicates with the n-DNet network
using the interna n-DNet NIC. It provides simu taneous
communication over both PLC (power ine) and RF.

programming, communication, testing etc.

Installation
Mounting:
The concentrator shou d be mounted on a wa or po e using at east two mounting
points. The mounting is done using the supp ied mounting p ates, connected to the
back of the concentrator box.
Power:
The required power supp y is 110-230VAC (50/60Hz). The concentrator has an interna
connector for a standard power cab e (Line,Neutra ,Gnd) coming from existing power
source in the fie d.
This source wi supp y both power and the communication medium for the system,
therefore, it shou d be of the highest qua ity possib e.
The cab e shou d be passed through the PG connector at the bottom of the box, and
then the connector shou d be tightened on it for sea ing.

deux points de montage. Le montage est effectué en uti isant des p aques de fixation
fournis, connectés à 'arrière de a boîte de concentrateur.

Le câb e doit être passé à travers e connecteur PG au fond de a boîte, puis e

Safety Note: Unit is intended to be powered from building wiring in
Overvoltage Category II. If the unit is installed in Overvoltage Category
higher than II, external overvoltage protective device compliant with IEC
61643 standard and NEC/CEC shall be provided in building installation to
reduce mains transients to Overvoltage Category II.

Supply disconnect switch:
A supp y disconnect switch, or a circuit breaker must be insta ed at the connection
point of the power cab e to the mains. Circuit breaker shou d be a standard device with
the fo owing characteristics - 2A 110/230VAC 50/60Hz. An examp e - S201M-C4NA by
ABB. The switch shou d be in c ose proximity to the concentrator within easy reach for
the operator. A marking shou d be added on the switch identifying it as a disconnection
device for the concentrator.

Operating:
Turning ON the Concentrator Unit:
1) Connect the mains cab e to the interna connector
If power is not turned on (power ed stays off), check for ive
power in the mains.
2) The LCD wi show the app ication software version
3) Meanwhi e, the BB2 LED wi start functioning, as fo owed:
POWER LED (RED) shou d be a ways ON
MCU LED (Green) – Starts b inking s ow y, and after a few
minutes (when modem connects to the network) it shou d
stay permanent y ON.
4) The concentrator wi show the current time as stored in the RTC.
Important notice: The concentrator wi get a time update
from a connected hand he d termina or from the remote
server if modem is insta ed.
5) At that point the system is ready for comp ete operation
Maintenance:
WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
Do not touch live electrical parts.
• Verify that the system is proper y insta ed and grounded according to its
insta ation manua and nationa , state, and oca codes.
• Incorrect connections may cause e ectric shock.
• Disconnect input power before insta ing or servicing the equipment.

• If any component part is found to be damaged and/or in need of service, have
a such service performed by a certified e ectrica contractor or qua ified Mobix
personne .

• If operating, disconnect the concentrator from the power source.
• Inspect the concentrator supp y cord – ook for nicks in the insu ation or

Troubleshooting
Please follow the troubleshooting section in case of encountering troubles with this
sub-section
1) The BB2 is plugged to the power supply but Power LED or LCD
remains in OFF state.
Check if power supp y is turned ON (if this option exists)
Check if power supp y p ug is connected we to the BB2
Check if LCD cab e is connected to the BB2
Check the input vo tage eve of the BB2. It shou d be in
range of 9 – 30 VDC
Consider rep acing the power cab e
Consider rep acing the BB2
2) The BB2 is plugged to the power supply but LCD shows a static
black/half black display
Verify correct jumper configuration on J3 (see jumper
configurations)
Verify LCD cab e is connected correct y
Make sure BB2 was programmed with the current sw version
3) The MCU LED blinks continuosly without switching to permanent
ON state – modem cannot connect to the network (if modem is
connected)
Make sure the communication parameters are correct (APN
domain, IP, Port etc)
Check the SIM card – it shou d be inserted correct y in p ace
and with a correct GPRS package
Make sure the modem is firm y connected to the board
4) No time appears on the display after 5 minutes from power on (if
modem is connected)
In GSM modems: Ensure the SIM card is insta ed proper y
inside the modem
There are few countries ( ike Peru) were this procedure takes
ong time. That is norma
Change the position of the modem’s antenna. Either the
receiving signa is poor or the network cannot ‘hear’ the
modem we .

5) A request was sent to the concentrator by the handheld reader,
but nothing happened afterwards
Ensure RS232 seria cab e is correct y connected
Verify B uetooth device operation (if existing)
Make sure you are using a compatib e handhe d reader with
atest sw
Power reset the concentrator and try again
6) The concentrator shows meters in its list but there are no
readings
Make sure that the meters detai s are correct (ID)
Check that the communication wires are connected to CON2
on BB2
Check that the communication wires are connected to PLC
Verify that TX LED on the PLC is b inking from time to time
 Verify correct jumper configuration on J4 (see jumper
configurations)
7) The PLC shows constant TX or none at all
Check that the communication wires are connected to CON2
on BB2
