Warnings, Cautions and Dangers
•WARNING: Do not drive into water that exceeds 12” in depth. Electrical inverter is mounted
under RV floor. Inverter’s case is splash resistant but not waterproof. May result in water
damage.
•CAUTION: The 2 hook-and-loop straps must be detached from the upholstery before raising
popup top. Keep all objects and body parts away from the popup top lift mechanism. Before
raising the popup top, check for obstacles above the RV. Before lowering the popup top, ensure
that the popup top’s travel path is completely clear. May lead to injury or damage.
•DANGER: Popup Top must be lowered when van is in motion.
•CAUTION: Load carrying capacity reduced. Modifications to this vehicle have reduced the
original load carrying capacity by 603 kg or 1330 lbs.
•DANGER: Do not use gas cooking appliances for comfort heating. May lead to carbon monoxide
poisoning, which can lead to death or serious injury.
•WARNING: Gas cooking appliances need fresh air before safe operation: Open vents or windows
slightly or exhaust fan prior to using cooking appliances. Gas flames consume oxygen, which
should be replaced to ensure proper combustion. Improper use may result in death or serious
injury.
•WARNING: Fresh water tank contains potable water only. Sanitize, flush and drain water tank
before using. See instructions, care and maintenance information below. Failure to maintain
tank may result in death or serious injury.
•WARNING: Test smoke alarm operation after vehicle has been in storage, before each trip, and a
least once a week during use. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
•DANGER: IF YOU SMELL PROPANE:
1. Extinguish and open flames and all smoking materials
2. Shut off propane supply at the container valve(s) or propane supply connection
3. Do not touch electrical switches
4. Open doors and other ventilation openings
5. Leave the area until the odor clears
6. Have the propane system checked and leakage source corrected before using again.
Ignition of flammable vapors could lead to a fire or explosion and result in death or serious
injury.
Driving
Driving your CV1 is much like driving a large, modern SUV with these big exceptions:
1. The popup top must be lowered while the RV is motion
2. The CV1 is 8’4” tall (approximately 13’ tall with cell phone booster antenna raised) –use caution
when driving under any structure or obstacle
3. To avoid water damage to the inverter mounted under the floor, do not drive into water that
exceeds 12” in depth
If you are unfamiliar with driving a vehicle that is 8’ tall and 20’ long, we recommend the following: Any
time you need to back up or there is any potential to hit nearby objects such as trees, fences, cars or

6 ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1
light poles, have a passenger get out and spot you. Make sure the spotter can see everything! Heed
this warning and you’ll be fine. Ignore it and you may hit something and cause damage.
Operation of the Ford Transit chassis systems, such as cruise control, dash heating and A/C, is covered in
your Ford Transit Owner’s Manual which is typically located in the glovebox.
Tire Changes
Instructions for changing a tire are in your Ford Transit Owner’s Manual. All items, such as the tire iron,
jack and spare tire are in their original Ford designated locations. The jack is in its original location,
under the passenger seat. Due to the CV1’s passenger seat swivel, access to the jack is more difficult,
but the jack can be retrieved and stored under the seat in its original position.
Cleaning
Your CV1’s popup top and rooftop A/C housing (or fan housing) are painted in automotive style base
coat/clear coat. Use the same cleaners and techniques as you would for your chassis body paint.
Do NOT use glass cleaner on your CV1’s popup top windows. These windows are made of plastic, not
glass, and glass cleaner can damage the plastic finish.
To avoid mildew, avoid closing your popup top when wet. If you must close the popup top when wet,
raise it and let it dry as soon as possible.
Wash your popup top canvas with soap, not detergent. You can read the canvas manufacturer’s
extensive recommendations at https://www.marlentextiles.com/top-gun-fr-care.html. In general, with
gentle cleaning and typical use, we do not expect that you will need to reapply water repellant.
Storage
To store your CV1, drain the fresh water system and turn off both the House Battery and optional Solar
Panel via the Lower Control Panel (instructions below). Then prepare your chassis for storage according
to the chassis manufacturer’s recommendations. If you plan to store your CV1 for an extended period,
pay careful attention to manufacturer’s recommendations for gas deterioration/oxidation and tires.
We recommend turning on your House Battery switch, then starting and running your CV1 for at least 30
minutes every month with the chassis A/C on. Turn the House Battery switch off when you are done.
This should keep the batteries charged and mitigate potential issues with turbos and other components
running without oil on startup.
When taking your CV1 out of storage, we recommend checking the function of each system and
appliance, including the smoke detector.
Maintenance
For the CV1 chassis, we recommend that you carefully follow the chassis manufacture’s maintenance
recommendations.

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 7
With the exception of recommended water system sanitizations, the CV1 systems are relatively
maintenance free. If the popup top lift mechanism begins to squeak or shudder, apply white grease to
the lift mechanism bearings and bearing surfaces.
Major Systems
12V System
The CV1 has two 12V batteries: the chassis battery and the house battery. The chassis battery starts the
chassis engine and runs other chassis based systems such as the headlights. The house battery runs all
the RV’s non 110V camping equipment. When the RV’s engine is running, the batteries are automatically
connected so the chassis alternator can supply 12V power and charge both batteries. When the engine
is off, the batteries are disconnected so you can’t drain the chassis battery by using the RV systems.
In normal use, the standard house battery can run the CV1 RV functions for 1-2 days without being
charged while the optional high capacity battery can run the CV1 for several days. However, certain
activities such as running the furnace or the inverter
can drain the battery quickly. To help you monitor
your batteries, the CV1 includes a volt meter on the
CV1 Control Panel, showing the voltage level of the
house battery. When the volt meter reads above 13V
the battery is charging. When the volt meter reads
between 12V and 13V, the battery is fully charged.
When the battery shows below 11V, the house
battery has been depleted. To avoid damage to your house battery, you should either charge it or stop
using it when it has been depleted (showing 11V or below). Repeated discharging of the house battery
below 11V will significantly decrease its lifespan.
Automatic Charging Relay (ACR)
In normal use, the ACR will automatically connect and disconnect the chassis and house batteries to
charge the house battery when the engine is running and keep the systems separated when the engine
is off to prevent discharging the chassis battery. There are two ways to override the ACR’s automatic
functions:
1. In the Lower Control Panel, the red ACR switch allows you to force a
connection between the two systems (left position) or to force the
systems to be disconnected (right position). The normal, automatic
operation is selected by the center position.
2. The ACR has a manual override switch. To access this switch, you will
need to remove the wall paneling on the driver side, just behind the
driver’s seat. Once this paneling has been removed, you can access the
yellow ACR manual override switch at the top of the ACR. To force the
two systems to connect, turn the switch clockwise and depress the
button on top of the switch (see photos).

8 ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1
If either the house battery or the chassis battery falls below 9.6V, the ACR will not automatically
connect the two batteries. To charge the house battery in this condition, you will have to manually
override the ACR as explained above.
Storing or Parking
As mentioned above, to protect your house battery, it is best to keep it from draining below 11V. The
simplest way to do this is to turn off the house 12V system when storing or parking your CV1 for more
than 1-2 days. To do this, turn the House Battery switch in the Lower Control Panel to the Off position.
Charging via Shore Power
To charge your CV1’s battery with the integrated battery charger, plug your
shore power cable into the CV1 shore power outlet (round grey door located
on the driver’s side between the wheels) and a compatible 120V outlet. Then
turn on the inverter; the battery will not charge if the inverter is off. See 120V
System below for more information about the inverter.
High Capacity Battery (Optional)
The high capacity battery is a large battery that is installed in an aluminum box under the floor on the
passenger side of your CV1, just in front of the rear leaf spring. It is a sealed AGM battery and requires
no maintenance or any other special service or operational procedures. Be aware that the AGM battery
weighs 150 lbs –service or repairs should only be performed by trained professionals with the proper
equipment necessary to service heavy objects under a vehicle.
120V System
The rooftop A/C and 120V outlets require 120V
power. Your CV1 includes an integrated 2000W
inverter/charger/transfer switch unit for 120V power
applications. To use 120V power, even when connect
to “shore power,” you must turn on the inverter. The
inverter uses some power, even when idle, so you
should turn it off when you are not plugged into shore
power and you don’t need to use 120V.

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 9
120V Inverter Function
The inverter’s primary function is to take 12V from the house 12V system and convert it for use in the
120V system. To use 120V power, turn on the inverter via the Control Panel switch. The 2000W inverter
is powerful enough to run the rooftop A/C; however, the house battery alone cannot run the rooftop
A/C (that would require a much, much larger battery!). To run the rooftop A/C, you must either run the
chassis engine (to allow its alternator to function as a generator) or plug into shore power. When the
inverter is on, the 120V GFI outlet should be active and available for use to charge laptops and other
devices and to run small tools or appliances.
Battery Charger Function
The inverter can charge the CV1’s batteries when plugged into shore power. To charge your CV1’s
battery with the integrated battery charger, plug your shore power cable into the CV1 shore power
outlet and a compatible 120V outlet and turn the inverter on via the Control Panel. The battery will not
charge unless the inverter is turned on.
Transfer Switch Function
When your CV1 is plugged into shore power and the inverter is on, all 120V power applications are run
directly from shore power. This allows you to run loads such as the rooftop A/C that cannot normally be
run off the house battery.
The shore power cable supplied with the CV1 is designed to be plugged into a 120V 30A shore power
receptacle such as you will find in most RV parks. The input is standard 120V, so, with the necessary
adapters, you can plug your CV1 shore power cable into a standard 120A 15A or 20A wall outlet.
However, the cables that supply a typical wall outlet are not large enough to support running the
rooftop A/C. If you compare the diameter of the CV1 shore power cable with that of a standard
extension cable, you’ll also realize that a standard extension cable is not large enough to support
running the rooftop A/C. Cables that are too small cannot handle the current and can easily overheat
and possibly cause fire or electrocution. Never use an extension cable to connect shore power. Instead,
reposition your CV1, use a compatible 120V 30A outlet, or run your chassis engine.
Fresh Water System
The fresh water system consists of a fresh water tank, a 12V water pump, the sink faucet, and the
optional external shower. To use the fresh water system:
1. Fill the fresh water tank with cool, clean, potable water. In 25-gallon models, the fresh water
tank is located in the bottom of the driver side storage cabinet. The fill door is accessed through
the top compartment of the cabinet, near the back of the shelf.
2. Turn the Water Pump switch on via the Control Panel. The water pump should automatically
stop and start as water pressure is needed.
3. Operate faucets normally.
If the system has been drained or otherwise run dry, you must clear the air out of the cold and hot water
lines (when equipped with the hot water heater) by opening the faucet in each direction, cold and hot,
until the water flows smoothly. Failure to clear the air out of the lines may cause the water pump to run
continuously and the water heater to malfunction.

10 ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1
Avoid leaving water in the tank when the motor home is not in use. Whenever possible, drain the fresh
water tank before traveling. Water in the tank will reduce the carrying capacity of your RV by
approximately 8 lbs. per gallon.
Draining the Fresh Water System
To drain the fresh water system:
1. On the Control Panel, ensure that the Water Pump switch is On.
2. Open the hot water temperature pressure relief (TPR) valve and the cold water drain valve,
which are located under the RV on the front corner of the furnace box on the driver’s side near
the shore power inlet
3. Open all faucets and water tank fill doors, including the shower if equipped
4. Allow the system to drain completely
5. Turn off the water pump as soon as water stops coming out of the drain valves.
6. Close all valves, faucets, and fill doors
Water System Sanitization
To discourage the growth of bacteria and other organisms that can contaminate the fresh water system,
sanitize the fresh water tank and plumbing approximately every 3 months or whenever the RV has been
stored for a prolonged period. Use a chlorine (bleach)/fresh water rinse as follows:
1. For the standard 25 gallon tank, prepare a solution of ½ cup household liquid chlorine bleach
(5% sodium hypochlorite) in 2 gallons of water. Make sure to use “regular” bleach without any
added fragrances or other chemicals.
2. Close all drain valves and faucets, pour solution into fresh water tank, and complete filling the
tank with fresh water.
3. Turn Water Pump switch on via the Control Panel. Open all faucets individually until water flows
smoothly, then turn them off to purge air from the water system.
4. Top off water tank with fresh water, then wait 3 hours.
5. Drain the water system following the fresh water system drain procedure.
6. Flush the system with potable water. Let the fresh water flow through the complete system,
including all faucets, for several minutes to flush out the chlorine solution.
7. Close drain valves and faucets –the fresh water system is ready for use.
Cold Weather Operation
The CV1’s plumbing and optional hot water heater can be damaged by freezing water. Damage due to
freezing is NOT covered under warranty. The CV1’s water systems have some capability for running in
sub-freezing conditions. However, you do so at your own risk. Do not let your hot water heater freeze
with water in it. If you choose to run your hot water heater in sub-freezing conditions, do not allow it to
run out of propane or 12V electricity. The safest strategy for sub-freezing conditions is to completely
drain the water system, and carry water containers inside the RV.
Popup Top and Beds
The popup top is raised and lowered via a rocker switch on the Control Panel. Before raising the popup
top, it is very important that you completely release the 2 hook-and-loop straps at the front end of the
popup top. After releasing the straps, go outside and look around the RV to ensure that there are no
obstacles (trees, awnings, garage ceilings, etc.) above the popup top that could cause interference with

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 11
the top as it is raised. Hold the rocker switch in the up position until the popup top has been raised. The
lift motors will automatically stop when the top is completely up or down.
To lower the popup top, first go outside and look around the RV to ensure that no objects or body parts
can interfere with the lift mechanism or would be in the travel path of the top as it is lowered. Inside the
RV, make sure that the upstairs bed is flat (no panels or cushions are stacked) and any bedding or cargo
is lower than the ceiling in its lowest position. Hold the rocker switch in the down position until the
popup top is completely lowered and the lift motors have stopped. Optionally, secure the hook-and-
loop straps at the front.
The beds consist of rails, panels, cushions, and cushion covers. The covers are zippered and removeable
so that they can be washed or replaced as necessary. The cushions contain memory foam on one side
and a more standard foam on the other. You may sleep on whichever side feels most comfortable.
The upstairs bed is 6.5’ x 4’ and is made up of two 4’ x 2’ panels and cushions plus one 4’ x 2.5’ panel
and cushion. The panels friction fit on the rails installed on the sides of the popup top openings. The
cushions sit on the panels and friction fit on the sides. One of the 4’ x 2’ panels has a pair of holes along
the edge near one corner, for attachment of the ladder. This panel should be closest to the front of the
van, with the holes positioned above the stove.
The downstairs bed is 6’x4’ and is made up of three 4’x2’ panels and cushions. To use the downstairs
bed, the front and back rails must be installed. To install them, position the front and back rails across
the RV, over the side rails that are permanently mounted on the sides of the RV, over the storage
cabinets. When you have them positioned correctly, all the rails together form a frame that is
approximately 4’x6’. There are holes in each corner of the frame that accept bolts to hold the frame
together. The panels friction fit on the rails. The cushions sit on the panels and friction fit on the rails as
well.
Propane System
The propane tank is outside under the RV floor on the driver’s side and holds enough fuel to run the
stove and furnace for 2 or more weeks. Some truck/RV stops such as Flying J sell propane (and also
have RV dump stations), and many U-Haul locations and some gas stations sell propane. Propane fill
services are also available at propane suppliers. Propane is generally “full service” and the station
attendants generally know the proper procedure for filling the propane tank. To allow room for
expansion due to heat, the propane tank should never be filled more than 80%. This is a standard
requirement and the propane station attendant will know how to properly fill your tank. If the stove
won’t light after a fill-up, check the manual cut off valve on the propane tank to ensure that it is open.

12 ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1
Because the propane tank is large compared to the demands
typically placed on it, a reasonable strategy is to fill your tank
before (or at the start of) your trip, then check the level every
few days. The propane level gauge is a round dial on the left
side of the propane tank.
The propane system is controlled by a solenoid (electrical
valve) that is attached to a combination CO and propane
detector. If the detector senses CO or propane, the solenoid
will automatically be closed to shut off the propane system. To
use a propane appliance such as the stove or furnace, turn on the LP Gas switch on the Control Panel (LP
stands for Liquid Propane). After a few seconds, the solenoid will open, then you can use propane
appliances. If the propane system has run completely empty, we suggest that you light the stove and let
it run for about 30 seconds before turning on the furnace or hot water heater. We recommend that you
turn the LP Gas switch off when the RV is in motion.
Seating
2nd Row Seating
The ModVans CV1 comes standard with 3-person 2nd row seating, which can be installed in three
configurations: Camp Mode, Transport Mode, and Dinette Mode. The components of the 2nd row seats
are the driver’s side captain’s chair with cupholders, passenger’s side captain’s chair, middle seat (which
mounts over the cupholders), mounting plates, and mounting plate attachment bolts.
In Camp Mode, passengers sit against the driver’s side of the van and face the passenger side slider
door. There are four possible layouts in Camp Mode:
1. Driver’s side captain’s chair with cupholders only.
2. Driver’s side captain’s chair with attached middle seat.
3. Passenger’s side captain’s chair only.
4. All three seats installed.
In Transport Mode, passengers face forward as in a typical SUV or minivan. Transport Mode has the
same four possible layouts.
In Dinette Mode, only the passenger’s side captain’s chair is used, and it is mounted further back, just in
front of the driver’s side storage cabinet. An optional dinette table can be mounted between it and the
front row seats, which can be swiveled to face backwards and use the table.
In Camp or Transport Mode, the middle seat can be installed to allow 3-person seating or removed to
reveal cup holders. To remove the middle seat:
1. Pull the loop on the driver side captain’s chair’s right shoulder
2. Lean the middle seatback forward to disengage the seatback from the driver side captain’s chair
3. Pull the loop under the middle seat
4. Lift the middle seat bottom to disengage the bottom part of the seat
5. With the seatback and bottom disengaged, remove the middle seat
To install the middle seat:

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 13
1. Fold the middle seat as much as possible
2. Place the middle seat into position. Align the mechanisms at the bottom back of the seat
3. Under the seat bottom, fold out the support
4. Lower and latch the seat bottom
5. Lean the seatback backwards to latch the seatback to the driver side captain’s chair
To remove either captain’s chair:
1. Use the seatback position lever to lean the seatback all the way forward
2. The seat bottom lifts up and reveals the seat latch handle
3. Use the seat latch handle to detach the seat from the seat mounting plate
4. Have an assistant help you lift the seat away from the seat mounting plate
5. The seat mounting plate can be removed by unbolting 4 large bolts
6. Insert black plastic caps into seat mounting plate floor holes
To install either captain’s chair:
1. If necessary, separate the captain’s chair from the seat mounting plate
2. Use the mounting plate to locate the seat mounting plate floor holes
3. Remove the black plastic caps from the seat mounting plate floor holes
4. Use the 4 seat plate attachment bolts to bolt the seat mounting plate into the mounting plate
floor holes
5. Have an assistant help you lift the seat into position over the seat mounting plates
6. Align the rear seat latches with the seat latch attachment channels and pins on the seat
mounting plate and lower the rear of the seat. Gravity should cause the rear seat latches to
engage.
7. Lean the seat forward to engage the front seat latches
8. Sit on the seat and rock backwards and forwards to ensure that all 4 seat latches are properly
engaged
Front Row Swivel Seats
The ModVans CV1 comes standard with a passenger side swivel seat. Some CV1 customers opt to add a
driver side swivel as well. To operate swivel seats vans with manually operated seats, slide the seat
forward, tilt the seatback forward, move the swivel handle toward the middle of the van, and swivel the
seat toward the middle of the van. On the driver side, if the steering wheel gets in the way while the
seat is being swiveled, simply adjust the seat backward until there is enough room to swivel completely.
For powered seats, seats must also be raised as high as possible before swiveling.
Cabinets
The ModVans CV1 comes with three interior cabinets: the galley cabinet, containing the propane stove
and sink; the driver’s side storage cabinet, containing the fresh water tank; and the passenger’s side
storage cabinet, containing the refrigerator. All three cabinets can be removed.
To remove the galley cabinet, first detach the gas line and power from underneath the stove, and the
water lines and drain line from underneath the sink. Then remove the four silver-colored bolts attaching
the wooden frame of the cabinet to the floor. Have an assistant help you lift and remove the cabinet.

14 ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1
To remove the driver’s side storage cabinet, remove the four silver-colored bolts attaching it to the
floor. They are located in the end caps of the cabinet, visible from outside of it. You will need a socket
wrench with an extension in order to reach them. Have an assistant help you lift the cabinet straight up
off of the water tank in order to remove it. To remove the water tank, drain it, and then from under the
van, remove the bolts holding it in place. Have an assistant help you lift and remove the tank.
To remove the passenger’s side storage cabinet, remove the four silver-colored bolts attaching the
wooden frame of the cabinet to the floor. Slide the cabinet out a short distance until you can reach
behind it and disconnect the power to the refrigerator. Have an assistant help you lift and remove the
cabinet, with the refrigerator in it.
Solar Charging System (Optional)
The Solar Charging System consists of 3 components: the Solar Panel, the Solar Charge Controller, and
the Battery Monitor.
The Solar Panel is a large panel mounted on the roof of your CV1. The large size allows some parts to be
covered or shadowed while continuing to generate electricity. The amount of output will depend heavily
on how much sunlight reaches the panel. During the summer there is more daylight and the angle of the
sun is better. Clouds, snow, trees, mountains and other items can block sunlight from reaching the
panel.
The Solar Charge Controller automatically produces
the correct battery charging voltage from the
available sunlight. Generally, you will not need to
manage or configure the Solar Charge Controller. You
can monitor and configure the Solar Charge Controller
with a Bluetooth app on your smartphone. See the
Solar Charge Controller owner’s manual for detailed
instructions.
Located on the right side of the Control Panel, in the center of the ring of switches, the Battery Monitor
gives you an overall status for your house battery. The battery monitor measures all current flows in and
out of the house battery plus the house battery temperature, and it produces a
“state-of-charge” that is a more accurate estimate of your battery capacity than
a voltage reading. The Battery Monitor’s display can be configured to show
voltage, current (power use), and remaining battery capacity as a percentage. In
addition, you can monitor and configure the Battery Monitor with a Bluetooth
app on your smartphone. See the Battery Monitor owner’s manual for detailed
instructions.
The Solar Panel contains its own switch on the Lower Control Panel. To disable
the Solar Panel for service or while storing your CV1 for an extended period,
turn the Solar Panel switch to the Off position.

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 15
Appliances and Devices
Fast Charging USB Ports
The CV1 includes 2 fast charging (2.1A) USB ports. They are located in the control panel, behind the volt
meter, and are powered by the house battery. There are two additional USB ports in the dash (one on
top in front of the driver, and one below the vehicle climate controls). These are powered by the chassis
battery and do not provide fast charging.
Furnace
To use the furnace, turn on the LP Gas switch, then
use the furnace controls on the Control Panel to set
the desired temperature and fan speed. See the
furnace owner’s manual for detailed instructions.
To set the furnace thermostat temperature (or to turn
off):
1. Rotate the knob to select the flame icon
2. Tap the knob to enter temperature selection mode
3. Rotate the knob to the desired temperature (or all the way counterclockwise to off)
4. Tap the knob to set the selected temperature
When the furnace is in use, the fan can be set to 3 different speeds: ECO, HIGH and BOOST. In addition,
the fan can be used to recirculate air in VENT mode. To set the fan mode:
1. Rotate the knob to select the fan icon
2. Tap the knob to enter fan selection mode
3. Rotate the knob to the desired fan mode
4. Tap the knob to set the fan mode
The furnace has three hot air outlets: one on the driver’s side just in front of the storage bin, one on the
driver’s side rear corner, and one on the passenger side rear corner. All three are circular outlets
mounted just under the windows, with covers that can be closed. The cold air return for the furnace is
the metal grill on the floor next to the driver’s side storage bin. It must be kept unobstructed when the
furnace is in use.

16 ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1
LED Cabin Lights
The CV1 has 9 LED lights divided into 2 zones: Main Lights and
Bed Lights. To operate the Main Lights, turn on the
corresponding Control Panel switch. The 4 Bed Lights each
have their own independent light switch. The 2 light switches
for the downstairs bed are in the ceiling panels above the
bed. The 2 light switches for the popup top bed are also in the
ceiling panels, but they are mounted just in front of the
popup top bed for easy access from the popup top bed. To
operate the bed lights, turn on the Bed Lights Control Panel
switch, then use the appropriate light switches. When the Bed Lights Control Panel switch is off, the bed
lights cannot be turned on with the individual bed light switches.
The CV1 also has two large interior lights mounted above the rear doors. These are part of the van
chassis and are powered by the chassis battery. They come on automatically when any door is open. To
override and turn them off, press the button inside the rear door frame on the driver’s side, or turn off
the courtesy light switch in the roof panel above the driver’s seat.
Propane Stove
To light the propane stove, turn on the LP Gas switch, then turn the knob to high and push and hold it in
until the burner lights. To avoid damage to your CV1’s walls and ceilings, never leave a burner lit
without a pot or pan over it. The interior of a camper van is tight quarters - when cooking, take extra
care to make sure that surrounding materials (wall, ceilings, containers, etc.) are safe from heat and hot
splashes. In case of emergency, there is a fire extinguisher behind the passenger seat.
Sink
To use the sink, there must be fresh water in the tank, and the water pump must be turned on (see
Fresh Water System, above). To get hot water in the sink, the LP Gas and water heater must be turned
on (see Water Heater, below). Turn on the faucet by pulling the lever toward the front of the van.
Adjust the temperature by moving the lever towards you for cold, away from you for hot.
The flat circular cover for the sink drain is decorative and should be removed before using the sink. To
plug the sink drain, push down on the button in the center of the drain guard. To unplug it, push down
on it again. The sink drains onto the ground directly underneath it. If you need to prevent that, you can
place a bucket or pan underneath the van.
To the right of the faucet is a pump-action liquid soap dispenser. To fill it, lift the pump straight up and
off, and pour soap into the hole using a funnel.
To use the popup countertop to the left of the sink, lift it up and out from the bottom until it is flat and
you hear it lock into place. To lower it, squeeze the tabs under each side of it and push down until it
seats firmly into its stowed position.
Refrigerator
The refrigerator runs off the house battery and 12V system. To use the fridge, turn the Fridge switch on
via the Control Panel. The fridge will automatically shut off if the house battery voltage falls below 11V
to protect the battery. There is a knob inside the fridge that allows you to set the temperature. The

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 17
fridge works best when full of precooled items. Running the fridge empty will cause the compressor to
cycle frequently and use additional battery power. The freezer box can be removed if desired to make
more room for refrigerated items. See the fridge owner’s manual for detailed instructions.
Rooftop A/C
To use the Rooftop A/C, you must have 120V power. To get 120V power, turn on the inverter via the
Control Panel. The 2000W inverter is powerful enough to run the rooftop A/C; however, the house
battery alone cannot run the rooftop A/C (that would require a much, much larger battery!). To run the
rooftop A/C, you must either run the chassis engine (to allow its alternator to function as a generator) or
plug into shore power. Once the inverter has been turned on, you can control the Rooftop A/C with the
knobs on the ceiling. The Rooftop A/C includes a small electrical heater. Turn the function selector knob
to the heating, cooling, or fan function as desired, then set the temperature with the temperature knob
with the colored scale.
Toilet
The CV1’s toilet contains an integrated fresh water tank, black water tank, and battery operated pump.
We supply all toilet parts sealed in their original packaging, so the toilet will require a bit of attention
before its first use. See the toilet owner’s manual for detailed instructions. We highly recommend that
you carefully follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for adding deodorant and a bit of water at
the start to avoid odors. If you are traveling with youngsters or people who are challenged by the
operation of mechanical devices or by following instructions, be sure check that the holding tank valve
is completely shut before driving your CV1.
The toilet is attached to a mounting plate. To remove it:
1. Take the top half of the toilet off, following the instructions in the toilet owner’s manual.
2. Pull out the plastic tab on the floor at the front of the toilet until it stops (about ¼ inch).
3. Slide the bottom half of the toilet forward and lift it up and off of the mounting plate.
Reverse the process to reattach the toilet. Start with the bottom half slightly forward and above its
regular mounting position, and slide it backward and down simultaneously.
For privacy, a curtain is available to separate the toilet area from the rest of the van. It is attached to
the ceiling above the toilet. Unscrew the knob in the center of the curtain attachment until the curtain
cord moves freely. Extend the curtain cord across and attach it to the fitting on the opposite side of the
van.
Water Heater (Optional)
To use the water heater, turn on the LP Gas switch,
then use the water heater controls on the Control
Panel to set the desired temperature. See the furnace
owner’s manual for detailed instructions. It takes
about 30 minutes to completely heat a tank of water,
so plan accordingly.

The hot water heater can be set to 3 different modes: ECO (104F), HOT (140F) and BOOST (prioritize
water heat over furnace heat). To set the water temperature:
1. Rotate the knob to select the water temperature icon (the icon to the right of the flame icon)
2. Tap the knob to enter water temperature selection mode
3. Rotate the knob to the desired water temperature mode
4. Tap the knob to set the water temperature mode
Exterior Shower (Optional)
To use the exterior shower, there must be fresh water in the tank, and the water pump must be turned
on (see Fresh Water System, above). To get hot water from the shower, the LP Gas and water heater
must be turned on (see Water Heater, above). Turn on the shower faucet using the knobs mounted on
either side of where the shower hose plugs in. The upper knob is the cold water and the lower knob is
the hot water.
Once the faucet is on, squeeze the trigger on the shower head to get water. Rotate the shower head to
change the stream type. When finished, turn off both shower faucet knobs, then squeeze the trigger to
relieve the pressure in the shower hose.
The shower hose can be disconnected by turning the fitting where it attaches to the faucet.
For privacy, a curtain is attached to the rear door. Open both rear doors until they latch 90° open.
Unscrew the knob in the center of the curtain attachment until the curtain cord moves freely. Extend
the curtain cord across and attach it to the fitting on the other door.
Cell Phone Booster (Optional)
To use the cell phone booster:
1. Make sure its antenna is in a vertical position. See instructions below if you need to raise it.
2. Turn the cell phone booster on at the Control Panel.
3. Position the inside antenna between 18” and 36” away from the cellular device. The inside
antenna is initially mounted on the wall panel just behind the driver’s seat. It has a long cable
and can be moved where needed.
Turn the cell phone booster off when not in use to conserve power.
To raise or lower the antenna, you will need a pair of 3/8” wrenches or sockets. Climb a ladder to reach
the antenna, which is on the roof above the driver’s seat. Use the wrenches or sockets to loosen the
two bolts holding the antenna arm into the base. You should not remove the bolts entirely, just loosen
them. Raise or lower the antenna as desired, and then retighten the bolts.
Awning (Optional)
The awning is controlled by switches mounted in the ceiling panel above the passenger side sliding door.
Consult the awning owner’s manual for detailed instructions.
To extend the awning:
1. Ensure that the van is level, particularly from side to side. Damage can result if the van is tilted.
2. Ensure that the space into which the awning will extend is clear and there are no obstructions.

ModVans CV1 Owner’s Manual V1.1 19
3. Ensure that the outside weather is not windy. Windy conditions can damage the awning and/or
the van.
4. Turn on the awning system (front-most switch).
5. Press the “extend” switch. To stop the awning before it is fully extended, press the “extend”
switch again.
To retract the awning:
1. Ensure that the retraction path is clear and there are no obstructions.
2. Press the “retract” switch. To stop the awning before it is fully retracted, press the “retract”
switch again.
3. Turn off the awning system (front-most switch) so that the awning cannot be extended
accidentally.
If the awning detects excessive wind, it will retract automatically. However, it may not succeed in time
to prevent damage. Retract the awning manually if wind comes up. Do not leave the van unattended
while the awning is extended.
There are LED lights along the end of the awning. They are controlled by the rear-most switch. They can
be used with the awning in any position.
Power Running Boards (Optional)
The power running boards operate automatically, extending when the corresponding door is opened
and retracting when it is closed. If you need to override them and keep them from extending, unplug
their connector from the OBD-II Diagnostic Port in the driver’s side footwell.
Troubleshooting
House Battery Usage
The standard 85Ah house battery is designed to last about 1 day without having to be charged. If the
house battery doesn’t last as long as you would like, consider the following battery conservation
techniques:
•Minimize the use of the 120V inverter and make sure that the inverter is off when not in use
•If the fridge is not being used, leave it off. When the fridge is in use, set its thermostat to the
middle of the range and try to keep it as full as possible (air is more difficult to keep cold and
leaks out when the fridge door is opened).
•Turn the furnace off or use the ECO setting
•Turn the hot water heater off
•Turn the LP Gas switch off when the furnace and stove are not in use (the solenoid value uses
battery power when the switch is on)
