A. Getting Started
The e-Strap is a smart companion to your mobile phone. It keeps track of
the incoming communications on your smartphone, monitors your physi-
cal activity and remotely controls your phone. Follow this Getting Started
chapter or the Quick-start guide enclosed with the e-Strap before setting
up your e-Strap and connecting it to your phone.

Understanding your e-Strap
The e-Strap consists of three parts: the device holder made of stainless
steel and rubber, the electronic device with display and touch-control,
and the leather strap for attaching to your Montblanc TimeWalker watch.

Charging the e-Strap
You need to charge the battery before first use. Follow these instructions
to charge the battery.
1. For charging, remove the electronic device from the holder by apply-
ing gentle pressure. Loosen the strap to increase the space between
the device and the strap, and take care not to drop the device.
2. Open the cover by carefully pulling it out of the charging port. Make
sure that no dust, humidity or liquidity enters. In order to prevent loss,
the cover is fixed to the device. Please do not pull it out using force, in
order to avoid damaging the connection.
3. Plug the enclosed Montblanc micro-USB cable into the charging port
and into a USB port of a computer or a suitable USB charger. Please
make sure that the output of the USB charger is 5 volts.
4. When charging, the e-Strap shows the battery status. A filled battery
icon will be displayed if the battery is fully charged. This takes approx-
imately four hours. First remove the USB cable from the computing
device or USB charger and then disconnect the micro-USB from the
e-Strap.

5. After charging, carefully insert the cover into the charging port of the
device. Make sure that it fits and clicks into the charging port. If it is
not inserted properly, the e-Strap will not be protected against water
or dust.
6. Please ensure that the device is inserted with the cover facing the
narrow side of the holder and the touch control at the bottom.

Battery Life
The battery lasts approximately five days, depending on the number of
notifications received per day and the personal usage pattern. You can
check the remaining battery life in the companion app. If the battery
drops below a critical level, you will be reminded to charge your e-Strap.
Please make sure that you fully charge your battery.
You can extend the battery life by:
• Reducing the number of notifications: you can decrease the number of
notifications by deselecting notification types in the companion app.
• Activating mute mode: if there is a time frame where you do not want
to be disturbed, mute the notifications.
• Avoiding frequent checks of notifications and limit the time you re-
motely control your phone.
• Activating Bluetooth on your phone: When no Bluetooth connection is
enabled, the e-Strap is waiting to connect to Bluetooth. This consumes
more energy than when the device is connected.

Adjusting the e-Strap
To attach the e-Strap to your watch, pull the strap through the watch 1
and then through the holder with the electronic device so that the strap
covers its back of it 2. You can adjust the position of the device on your
wrist on the strap 3. The device should be worn at the bottom of your
wrist.
Navigating by touch
The touch-sensor is located under the display. The best way to navigate
is by touching under the display.
The e-Strap recognises the following touch patterns:
Tap
Short tap Tap with your finger for less than one second.
Long tap Tap with your finger and leave the finger on the touch-
sensor for three seconds.
Swipe
Right Drag your finger from left to right

Turning the e-Strap on
To turn the device on, tap and hold three seconds on the touch-sensor.
Then swipe your finger from left to right. The device will respond by vibra-
tion and the Montblanc logo will appear.
To turn the device off, tap and hold for three seconds. Then swipe your
finger from right to left.
When the device is already turned on, you can wake it up with a simple
tap.
Setting up the e-Strap app
The Montblanc e-Strap app is compatible with the following mobile
phones:
• Apple iPhone 4S and later running iOS 8
• Samsung Galaxy S4 and later
• Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and later
Other mobile devices are not supported.
Installation of the app
For installing the mobile application make sure that you have an active
Wi-Fi or mobile network connection for accessing the application store.
The installation procedure depends on your mobile device.
For iPhones
By clicking on the App Store logo below you will be forwarded to the app
download.

You can also download the app by following these instructions:
1. Access the store from your phone by tapping on the “App Store” icon.
2. Tap the “Search” icon in the navigation bar.
3. Tap on the search field and type “Montblanc e–Strap”.
4. Select the first search result from the list and tap on the “Load” button.
For Samsung Android phones
By clicking on the Google play store logo below, you will be directly for-
warded to the app:
You can also download the app by following these instructions:
1. Access the store from your phone by tapping on the “Play store” icon.
2. Tap the “Search” icon in the navigation bar.
3. Tap on the search field and type “Montblanc–Strap”.
4. Select the first search result from the list and tap on the “Install” button.
Pairing the e-Strap with your phone
The e-Strap is paired to your mobile phone using Bluetooth® Low Energy.
Pairing enables the e-Strap to communicate continuously with your
phone. The pairing process only needs to be carried out once.
Before pairing, please ensure the following:
1. Bluetooth is on
2. e-Strap is on
3. e-Strap is nearby
4. The app is up to date
5. Your phone has an active Internet connection
Depending on your mobile phone, Bluetooth is activated differently.
iPhone
1. Swipe from bottom to top
2. Tap on the Bluetooth icon in the overlay
Android phone
1. Swipe from top to bottom
2. Tap on the Bluetooth icon in the overlay
The e-Strap will automatically connect to your smartphone once paired.

Setting up notifications on iOS
To receive notifications on your e-Strap, they have to be set up in iOS. For
this, enter “Settings” on your iPhone and select “Notifications”. To receive
notifications from apps, add them to the “Include” list. Apps listed under
“Do Not include” will not send notifications. To include or exclude apps,
use “Edit”.
For each app that you would like to receive notifications from, activate
“Allow Notifications”.
Set the Alert Style to “Alerts” or “Banners”. Some apps require the Alert
Style to be set to “Banners” to be displayed on the e-Strap.

Updating the e-Strap
If an update for the e-Strap is available, it will be triggered by the app.
When you tap on the “Update” button, the updating will start. Please
make sure that you have an active internet connection. A bar will show
the progress of the process.
Reconnecting to a new phone
Once the e-Strap is paired, it cannot be used with another phone unless
you unpair it. To reconnect the e-Strap to another phone follow these
three steps.
1. Remove the e-Strap from your app
Tap on the “-“ icon next to the e-Strap in order to remove it from the app 1.
2. Unpair the e-Strap from your phone
The e-Strap can only be paired to one phone at a time. If you have al-
ready paired your e-Strap to a phone, you must unpair it before pairing it
with another phone.
Unpairing the e-Strap from your iPhone
Enter Settings and tap on Bluetooth.
Under “My Devices”, tap on the information icon next to “MONTBLANC
E-STRAP”.
Then tap on “Forget This Device”. Turn your e-Strap off. The e-Strap is now
ready to pair again.

Unpair the e-Strap from your Samsung Android phone
Enter “Settings” and select under “Connections” the “Bluetooth” connec-
tion. Below “Paired Devices” the paired Bluetooth devices are listed.
Tap on the gear icon next to “MONTBLANC E-STRAP” and then on “Un-
pair”. Turn your e-Strap off. The e-Strap is now ready to pair again.
3. Reset the e-Strap
Before pairing to another phone, reset the e-Strap to factory settings by
pressing the reset button. For this, please use a pointed object like a nee-
dle, paper clip or pen to press on the button. Make sure that the object
does not damage the device or cover. When the button is pressed, the
e-Strap will show the Montblanc logo and then turn off.

The Montblanc e-Strap app manages the connection between your
e-Strap and your mobile phone.
Home screen
From the home screen, all functionalities of the application can be ac-
cessed. Tapping on the Montblanc logo will always bring you back to the
home screen. Please keep the application running for best operation.

Notifications
The e-Strap will vibrate and light up for incoming notifications. The types
of notification received by the e-Strap are set in the notification settings.
Tap the button next to the item in order to activate or deactivate the noti-
fication. Only active notifications will be displayed by your e-Strap.

The following notifications can be shown on the e-Strap:
Calls name or number of caller.
E-mail name or e-mail address of sender, topic and preview of
content.
Messages sender and content of text message.
Calendar reminder for calendar events with topic, time and preview
of content.
Social displays messages and events from social networks and
messengers. Shows name, source of notification and
content.
Battery alerts if the battery of your phone is low.
Activity alert alerts you if you have not moved in the last hour.
If you want to exclude notifications from individual apps to your e-Strap
disable “Allow notifications” in the notification settings or within the app.
Tracking your activity
You can monitor your activity with the activity tracking function of the
e-Strap. You need to complete your personal activity profile before you
can use this feature. The data will only be stored locally on your device
and not transmitted to Montblanc or any other third party.
The activity profile
The profile only captures relevant personal attributes in order to guaran-
tee the accuracy of the activity tracker.
Picture you can use your own profile picture by tapping on the
avatar. This entry is not mandatory.
Name personalise your application with your name. This entry is
not mandatory.
Gender select your gender from female or male.
Height you can select between inches (in) and centimetres (cm)
to set your height.
Weight you can select between pounds (lb) and kilograms (kg) to
set your weight.
Date of birth set your date of birth.

Activity level the individual activity level is split into relaxed, moderate
and very active. Select according to your current activity
level:
Relaxed: You are exercising very irregular, less than
once a week.
Moderate: You are exercising regularly, one to three
times a week.
Very active: You are exercising very frequently, more
than three times a week.
Tap on “Create my profile” to save the information and proceed to the
activity screen. You can change the activity profile settings later in the
settings.
Set your daily activity goal
You can set a daily walking goal of up to 25,000 steps by dragging
the dotted circle. A trophy symbol notifies you when the daily goal is
achieved.
Analyse your activity
The activity graph is split into the activity timeline and the activity level
section.
1Activity timeline: Shows your number of steps over time. You can se-
lect days, weeks or months as your time-frame. In
the day view, the trophy signals the time when you
achieved your daily goal and a dotted line indicates
yesterday’s activity. The horizontal axis shows the
time and the vertical axis the number of steps.
2Activity level: Shows the percentage of time you spent today run-
ning or jogging (very active), walking (lightly active)
and sitting or sleeping (rest).

Camera mode
With the camera function you can take remote photos with your phone.
Select the camera on the e-Strap and tap to trigger the shutter to take
a picture with your phone. Within the smartphone application you can
look at your snap-shot by clicking on the picture at the bottom left. The
images are saved in the photo gallery of your phone. To turn the flash off/
on, tap on the flash symbol 2. You can also switch between your front
and back camera 3. To exit camera mode, tap on the “x” 1at the top
left.
Find your e-Strap
Use the “Find me” function to locate your e-Strap within the range of your
phone. Tap on the home screen on the “Find me” button, located under
the watch. The e-Strap will vibrate and provide visual feedback about its
location. Once you have found your device, you can turn off the alarm by
tapping on the “Find me” button on the phone again.
Settings
You can access the settings from the home screen by swiping from left
to right or tapping on the three bars ()at the top left of the screen.
The settings allow you to change your activity profile and manage your
e-Strap connection.
User Profile
Tapping on the “gear” icon () opens the profile settings. Here, you
can change your activity profile. Tap on “save” to confirm changes in the
profile.

Managing your e-Strap connection
You can check the status of your e-Strap connection under “Your watch
connections”.
1Connection status shows “Connected” when the device is linked to
your phone or “Disconnected” when it is not con-
nected.
2Battery status shows the current power level of the e-Strap as a
percentage. Please charge when this falls below
10%.
3Change connection tap on the “-“ sign in order to disconnect the
e-Strap. Make sure to forget the device in the
Bluetooth settings of your phone.
4Name displays the name of your e-Strap watch.

C. e-Strap functionality
The e-Strap allows you to read notifications, remotely control your phone
and consult a summary presentation of your daily activity. The function-
alities and their respective icons are briefly explained below.
Connection
An alternating closed/open link shows the e-Strap is ready to be paired
to your phone. Once paired to a mobile device, the e-Strap will show a
closed link as confirmation of a successful connection.
If the Bluetooth connection to the e-Strap is lost, an open link is dis-
played.
Reasons for losing the Bluetooth connection can be:
aThe phone is not close enough to the e-Strap.
bBluetooth is turned off on the phone.
cThe e-Strap is turned off.
The e-Strap will automatically reconnect when the cause of the connec-
tion loss is remedied.
Notifications
The e-Strap will vibrate and light up for incoming notifications. The types
of notification received by the e-Strap are set in the notification settings.
Tap the button next to the item in order to activate or deactivate the noti-
fication. Only active notifications will be displayed by your e-Strap.
Tapping on the icon produces a detailed notification screen showing the
last incoming notification for each notification type. If the message is too
long to fit on one screen, it will page. You can scroll through the notifica-
tions by swiping left and right and exit the detailed notification view by
means of a tap.

C. e-Strap functionality
Music
You can play and skip songs with your e-Strap.
Skip to the previous song by tapping on , play or pause music with
and skip to the next song by tapping on . Note that non-native music
players might not be supported.
Camera
Activate the camera mode of the app. to take pictures remotely with the
e-Strap. By tapping on the icon the shutter of the camera is released.
Mute
Tap on the mute icon to activate silent mode. You will not receive any no-
tifications from your phone on the e-Strap. To receive notifications again,
tap on .
Activity
The e-Strap shows the number of steps walked and notifies you when the
daily goal is achieved by displaying a trophy icon ( ).
When the activity reminder is turned on, the e-Strap reminds you to get
active if you have not moved during the last hour. This option can be
switched off in the notification settings.

C. e-Strap functionality
“Find my phone”
Tap on the phone icon to activate “Find my phone”. Your phone will play
the Montblanc melody. Stop the melody by tapping on the flashing phone
icon, swiping left or right to enter another function or by deactivating the
melody on your phone.
Battery
The battery symbol shows the remaining battery life of your mobile
phone. When the display shows an empty battery, you should charge
your phone.

Please read these safety instructions carefully.
• Use the device with care. In particular, do not disassemble the device,
subject it to high pressure, place it near or in a heat source (e.g. fire,
microwave oven, radiator or stove), or otherwise try to damage it.
This could cause the battery to explode.
• Avoid using the device when swimming, diving, showering or partici-
pating in other activities where the device could come into contact
with water.
• The device comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The bat-
tery is not replaceable. Please consult a Montblanc Boutique or an
authorised Montblanc Retailer if you believe that the battery needs to
be replaced.
• Please refrain from using the device while driving, as it may distract
you.
• While moderate physical activity is considered to be safe for most
people, you are advised to consult a doctor before using the activity
tracker for the first time.
• Never forget to replace the gasket on the device after charging the
battery. Liquids may enter the device, leading to corrosion. If liquids
have entered the device, please refrain from using it and contact a
Montblanc Boutique or an authorised Montblanc Retailer.
• The gasket provides only limited water protection (splash-resistance).
Any damage to the gasket can adversely affect the water-resistance.
• In the event of a leaking battery, refrain from handling or touching
it. Avoid any contact, particularly with your eyes or skin. Contact a
Montblanc Boutique or an authorised Montblanc Retailer.
• Do not drop the device, as this can damage not only the surface but
also the battery and electronics.
• For charging the device use only the USB cable provided and take care
to use a stable power source, such as the USB outlet of a computer.
Damage resulting from the use of an improper charger is not covered
by the Montblanc warranty.
• Please do not leave the e-Strap on prolonged charging, as this can
harm the battery’s performance.
