INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this Montague Induction range. Before operating this unit, read and
familiarize yourself with the following operating and safety instructions.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTION FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK, FIRE OR BURN INJURIES CAN OCCUR
IF THIS EQUIPMENT IS NOT USED PROPERLY
The Montague Induction Cooktops feature Vollrath Technology, developed through extensive
research and work with the Electric Power Research Institute, to deliver high performance with high
reliability.
This technology is what allows power conversion efficiencies of over 90% and helps our cooktops to
detect the size, shape, and material of the cooking pan more accurately, resulting in superior
performance compared to cooktops with higher power ratings. The Chef can rely on consistent peak
power.
Vollrath also delivers superior low-end power control through a blend of continuous proportioning
and low-wattage pulse modulation, allowing cooking with very delicate sauces and even the melting
of chocolate.
High reliability is maintained with quality components, individual sector protection and additional
thermal sensors and controllers. We believe the Montague Induction Cooktops feature superior
performance and reliability, and will provide years of cooking satisfaction.

INSTALLATION & OPERATION PRECAUTIONS
Studies have shown that the induction element presents no danger. However, as a precaution for
persons using a pacemaker, please keep 12 inches ( 30cm ) from the unit while in operation.
The top is made from a strong non-porous material. However, in case of cracking or breakage,
discontinue using the unit and disconnect the power immediately.
Do not place spoons, kitchen utensils, knives, pan lids or other small objects on the cooking
surface while the unit is operating, as they may also become hot. The unit is equipped with a
“small object detector” to prevent small objects from accidentally heating if placed on the cooking
surface of the unit by themselves. However, if they are placed on the unit with a suitable piece of
cookware that activates the unit, the smaller object may also become hot.
Keep all magnetic security strips commonly found on credit cards or a drivers license away from
the unit as the unit’s magnetic field will damage the information on the security strip.
Use a dedicated grounded electrical circuit with the specified voltage rating provided on the
nameplate.
Place the induction range on a flat, horizontal surface, with at least 4 inches of space from any
other object.
Insure proper ventilation for the cooling fans. ( Do not block air intakes or exhausts. )
Use cookware at least 4.5 inches in diameter.
Do not place empty cookware on cooking surfaces while the range is turned on. ( Exceptions are
for stir-fry and searing meat. )
Use more oil ( liquid ) than you would with conventional cook-tops.
Do not touch the cook surface after use. Although the induction cook-top itself does not produce
heat, the surface will be hot from the cookware and can cause burns.
Never place any objects in the air intake. ( Shock Hazard )
Never place this unit in or near water.
Never allow children to use any cook-top without adult supervision.
If this unit malfunctions in any way, first look at the troubleshooting section of this manual, then
contact the nearest service facility for repair.
Do not operate unit if it has been damaged or is malfunctioning in any way.
Do not place this unit near open flames, electrical burners, or any other heat source.
Never heat sealed cans. This will cause pressure to build up in the can and may cause an
explosion.
Let the cook-top cool before moving. NEVER MOVE WHILE IN USE.
2

Unplug when not in use.
Never store objects on top of your induction range.
Do not use this product for any purpose other than cooking.
Unplug and let cool before cleaning and moving.
Do not spray controls or outside of unit with liquid or cleaning agents.
Do not operate unattended.
3

INSTALLATION
This unit is to be used in a level position. Counter top units are designed to be installed on a flat
horizontal surface with a minimum clearance of 3” at the rear and 1” at the bottom of the unit.
Drop-In units are designed to be installed into an enclosed area with adequate ventilation. There
must be at least 2 unrestricted openings of 80 square inches each for ventilation. The unit must have
a minimum of 4” of space around the unit and 3” of space at the bottom of the unit.
The double drop-in induction ranges have two remote control boxes. The control boxes can be
mounted side by side, one above the other, or in separate locations as desired.
PLEASE SEE APPENDIX “A” FOR CUT OUT DIMENSIONS
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is best to use the actual induction unit along with the dimensions in
Appendix “A” to position the Induction unit exactly as desired in your counter top.

OPERATION
1. Plug power cord into a grounded electrical outlet with the nameplate rated voltage.
IMPORTANT! : Using a voltage other than the nameplate rated voltage will cause
damage to the unit.
WARNING: ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD !
Keep water from entering the inside of the unit. If liquid spills or boils over onto the
surface of the unit, Immediately unplug the unit and wipe up any liquid. The liquid
could enter the electrical compartment and cause an electrical shock.
2. Place a suitable cooking utensil in the center position on the cooking plate.
3. Turn on the power by pushing the power ON/OFF button. The power level display will light.
IMPORTANT: The cooking plate is made from a strong non-porous material, however it
will break if the cooking utensil is dropped onto the surface. The warranty will not cover this
type of abuse.
FRONT CONTROL PANEL
How to adjust the cooking power:
Pressing the ON/OFF button turns the unit on. An LED above the POWER/TEMP button will
illuminate. When an appropriate pan is placed on the range, the display will remain “steady on” with
a value “1” indicating the unit is heating. Press the POWER/TEMP button to choose between
cooking at a certain level of power (1-100), or at a desired approximate temperature (100-400 F).
Press up and down arrow buttons to increase or decrease temperature or power.

4. The display will be continuously on displaying the power level when an appropriate pan is
placed on the unit. If the unit is running and the power display is flashing, the cooking utensil
may not be suitable.
WARNING: BURN HAZARD!
Induction ranges heat extremely fast. They heat much faster than most other types of
stovetops or ranges. Therefore when preheating oil or other liquids or items, be very
careful when adding additional items to the cooking utensil. Hot food and liquids can
burn skin.
IMPORTANT!: Do not heat cookware on the unit without something to be heated in the
pan.
Because of the speed and efficiency of the induction range, the cookware can develop an
excessive amount of heat very quickly and damage the cookware and non-stick coatings.
The unit is equipped with an over heating protection device. If the temperature of the top
plate gets too hot, the unit will shut down until the top plate cools. The heating indicator will
flash to indicate the over heating protection function is on.
5. While the unit is in use it will not harm the unit to remove the cooking utensil for a short time. If
an unsuitable pan is placed on the unit or if the unit is left on for more than 1 minute without a
pan, the unit will turn off automatically.

CLEANING
To maintain appearance and increase the service life, the induction range top should be cleaned at
least daily.
1. Before cleaning, unplug the unit and let it cool completely.
WARNING: BURN HAZARD!
The top surface gets very hot during cooking. Hot surfaces and hot pans can burn
skin. Allow the induction range and any cooking utensils to cool before handling
them.
WARNING: ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD!
Do not spray outside of the unit or controls with liquid or cleaning product. Liquid
could enter the electrical compartment and cause a short circuit or electrical shock.
2. To avoid damaging the finish, do not use abrasive materials, scratching cleaners or scouring
pads to clean the surface of the unit.
3. If mild soap or mild chemical cleaners are used, be sure they are completely wiped away
immediately after cleansing. Chemical residue could corrode the surfaces of the unit.
IMPORTANT: Periodically vacuum or brush the air intake and exhaust vents on the unit. A build
up of debris in the air openings can cause the unit to overheat.
REPAIR: There are no user serviceable parts within this appliance. To avoid serious injury or
damage, never attempt to repair the induction range or replace a damaged power cord yourself.

WARNING
If not installed, operated and maintained in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions,
this product could expose you to substances in
fuel or in fuel combustion which can cause death
or serious illness and which are known to the
State of California to cause cancer, birth defects
or other reproductive harm.
The State of California enacted the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986,(PROP.65), which
“prohibits any person in the course of doing business from knowingly and intentionally exposing any individual to a
chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity without first giving clear and reasonable
warning to such individuals.” The Governors Scientific Advisory Panel added carbon monoxide to the list of hazardous
chemicals known to cause reproductive harm.
In order to establish full compliance with Proposition 65, we attached a yellow warning label to each gas fired unit
manufactured by the Montague Company.
Carbon Monoxide would not be present in concentrations that would pose a “significant rist” to the consumer when the
equipment is installed, operated and maintained as follows:
1. Installed in accordance with all local codes, or in the absence of local codes, with the current National Fuel Gas Code
Z223.1.
2. Installed under a properly designed and operating exhaust hood.
3. Connected to the type of gas for which the unit is equipped.
4. Proper appliance pressure regulator installed on the gas supply line and adjusted for the manifold pressure marked
on the rating plate.
5. Adequate air supply to the unit.
6. The equipment is operated in the manner intended using the proper utensil for that type of appliance.
7. Keep the equipment clean and have it checked periodically.
8. Burner air adjustments, mechanical maintenance and repairs should be performed by qualified service personnel.
If the equipment is not installed, operated and maintained in accordance with the above, concentrations of carbon
monoxide in excess of the established could present in the kitchen environment.
ALL PERSONNEL IN THE WORKPLACE WHO MAY BE SUBJECT TO ANY EXPOSURE OF CARBON MONOXIDE
MUST BE WARNED OF SUCH POSSIBLE EXPOSURE. THIS WARNING SHOULD BE CONVEYED IN A MANNER
SO THAT IT IS CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD BY THE EMPLOYEE, AND THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD BE ASKED IF IN
FACT HE OR SHE UNDERSTANDS THE CORRECT METHOD OF OPERATION OF THE EQUIPMENT AND THAT A
RISK OF EXPOSURE EXISTS IF THE EQUIPMENT IS OPERATED IMPROPERLY.
