LIMITED WARRANTY
MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS MW810 MOBILE
WORKSTATION
This warranty applies within the fifty (50) United States, the Dis-
trict of Columbia and Canada, and is effective for MW810 Mobile
Workstation shipments as of June 1, 2008.
If any affected product is being purchased in response to a Motorola
Solutions proposal containing a different communication products
warranty, the warranty contained in that proposal will apply to such
affected product. Otherwise, the following warranty applies.

I. WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS AND FOR HOW LONG:
Motorola Solutions Inc. or, if applicable, Motorola Solutions Canada
Limited ("Motorola Solutions") warrants the Motorola Solutions
MW810 Mobile Workstation (“Product”) against material defects in
material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period
of Three (3) Years from the date of shipment.
Motorola Solutions, at its option, will at no charge either repair the
Product (with new or reconditioned parts), replace it with the same or
equivalent Product (using new or reconditioned Product), or refund
the purchase price of the Product during the warranty period pro-
vided purchaser notifies Motorola Solutions according to the terms of
this warranty. Repaired or replaced Product is warranted for the bal-
ance of the original applicable warranty period. All replaced parts of
the Product shall become the property of Motorola Solutions.
This express limited warranty is extended by Motorola Solutions to
the original end user purchaser purchasing the Product for purposes
of leasing or for commercial, industrial, or governmental use only,
and is not assignable or transferable to any other party. This is the
complete warranty for the Product manufactured by Motorola Solu-
tions. Motorola Solutions assumes no obligations or liability for addi-
tions or modifications to this warranty unless made in writing and
signed by an officer of Motorola Solutions. Unless made in a sepa-
rate written agreement between Motorola Solutions and the original
end user purchaser, Motorola Solutions does not warrant the installa-
tion, maintenance or service of the Product.
Motorola Solutions cannot be responsible in any way for any ancillary
equipment not furnished by Motorola Solutions, which is attached to
or used in connection with the Product, or for operation of the Prod-
uct with any ancillary equipment, and all such equipment is expressly
excluded from this warranty. Because each system that may use the
Product is unique, Motorola Solutions disclaims liability for range,
coverage, or operation of the system as a whole under this warranty.
II. GENERAL PROVISIONS:
This warranty sets forth the full extent of Motorola Solutions responsi-
bilities regarding the Product. Repair, replacement or refund of the
purchase price, at Motorola Solutions option, is the exclusive rem-
edy. THIS WARRANTY IS GIVEN IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER
EXPRESS WARRANTIES. MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS DISCLAIMS
ALL OTHER WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDI-
TIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICU-
LAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT SHALL MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS
BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES IN EXCESS OF THE PURCHASE
PRICE OF THE PRODUCT, FOR ANY LOSS OF USE, LOSS OF
TIME, INCONVENIENCE, COMMERCIAL LOSS, LOST PROFITS
OR SAVINGS OR OTHER INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR
INABILITY TO USE SUCH PRODUCT, TO THE FULL EXTENT
SUCH MAY BE DISCLAIMED BY LAW.
III. HOW TO GET WARRANTY SERVICE:
Purchaser must notify Motorola Solutions representative or call
Motorola Solutions Customer Response Center at 1-800-247-2346
within the applicable warranty period for information regarding war-
ranty service.

IV. WHAT THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:
A) Defects or damage resulting from use of the Product in other
than its normal and customary manner.
B) Defects or damage from misuse, accident, water, or neglect.
C) Defects or damage from improper testing, operation, mainte-
nance, installation, alteration, modification, or adjustment.
D) Breakage or damage to antennas unless caused directly by
defects in material workmanship.
E) A Product subjected to unauthorized Product modifications, dis-
assemblies or repairs (including, without limitation, the addition
to the Product of non-Motorola Solutions supplied equipment)
which adversely affect performance of the Product or interfere
with Motorola Solutions normal warranty inspection and testing
of the Product to verify any warranty claim.
F) Product that has had the serial number removed or made illegi-
ble.
G) Batteries (they carry their own separate limited warranty).
H) Freight costs to the repair depot.
I) A Product which, due to illegal or unauthorized alteration of the
software/firmware in the Product, does not function in accor-
dance with Motorola Solutions published specifications or with
the FCC type acceptance labeling in effect for the Product at the
time the Product was initially distributed from Motorola Solu-
tions.
J) Scratches or other cosmetic damage to Product surfaces that
does not affect the operation of the Product.
K) That the software in the Product will meet the purchaser's
requirements or that the operation of the software will be unin-
terrupted or error-free.
L) Normal and customary wear and tear.
M) Non-Motorola Solutions manufactured equipment unless bear-
ing a Motorola Solutions Part Number in the form of an alphanu-
meric number (i.e., TDE6030B).
N) Lift trucks if required for installation, removal, replacement or
repair of the Motorola Solutions-supplied products.
O) Dispatch to remote site locations.
P) Loading of software upgrades or fixes into the devices.
V. GOVERNING LAW:
In the case of a Product sold in the United States and Canada, this
Warranty is governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and the Prov-
ince of Ontario, respectively.
VI. PATENT AND SOFTWARE PROVISIONS:
Motorola Solutions will defend, at its own expense, any suit brought
against the end user purchaser to the extent that it is based on a
claim that the Product or its parts infringe a United States patent, and
Motorola Solutions will pay those costs and damages finally awarded
against the end user purchaser in any such suit which are attribut-
able to any such claim, but such defense and payments are condi-
tioned on the following:
A) that Motorola Solutions will be notified promptly in writing by such
purchaser of any notice of such claim;
B) that Motorola Solutions will have sole control of the defense of
such suit and all negotiations for its settlement or compromise;
and
C) should the Product or its parts become, or in Motorola Solutions
opinion be likely to become, the subject of a claim of infringe-
ment of a United States patent, that such purchaser will permit

Motorola Solutions, at its option and expense, either to procure
for such purchaser the right to continue using the Product or its
parts or to replace or modify the same so that it becomes non-
infringing or to grant such purchaser a credit for the Product or
its parts as depreciated and accept its return. The depreciation
will be an equal amount per year over the lifetime of the Product
or its parts as established by Motorola Solutions.
VII. FOR AUSTRALIA ONLY:
This warranty is given by Motorola Solutions Australia Pty Limited
(ABN 16 004 742 312) of Tally Ho Business Park, 10 Wesley Court.
Burwood East, Victoria.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the
Australia Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund
for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably fore-
seeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods
repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and
the failure does not amount to a major failure.
Motorola Solutions Australia's limited warranty above is in addition to
any rights and remedies you may have under the Australian Con-
sumer Law.

Motorola Solutions will have no liability with respect to any claim of
patent infringement which is based upon the combination of the
Product or its parts furnished hereunder with software, apparatus or
devices not furnished by Motorola Solutions, nor will Motorola Solu-
tions have any liability for the use of ancillary equipment or software
not furnished by Motorola Solutions which is attached to or used in
connection with the Product. The foregoing states the entire liability
of Motorola Solutions with respect to infringement of patents by the
Product or any its parts thereof.
Laws in the United States and other countries preserve for Motorola
Solutions certain exclusive rights for copyrighted Motorola Solutions
software such as the exclusive rights to reproduce in copies and
distribute copies of such Motorola Solutions software. Motorola
Solutions software may be used in only the Product in which the
software was originally embodied and such software in such Product
may not be replaced, copied, distributed, modified in any way, or
used to produce any derivative thereof. No other use including,
without limitation, alteration, modification, reproduction, distribution,
or reverse engineering of such Motorola Solutions software or
exercise of rights in such Motorola Solutions software is permitted.
No license is granted by implication, estoppel or otherwise under
Motorola Solutions patent rights or copyrights.
Post-warranty Service
Repair Service Advantage (RSA) programs are available at
additional cost, with options of 1-year RSA (covering year 4) and 2-
year RSA (covering years 4 and 5).
All other warranty terms and conditions remain the same.

How to identify the workstation release
number
This manual relates to MW810 Mobile Workstation Release
2.0. The Release Number reflects the type of hardware and
software installed inside the MW810 Mobile Workstation.
When receiving the MW810 Mobile Workstation, the
Release Number is included with the documentation
attached to the shipping package.
To identify Release 2.0 on MW810 Mobile Workstation units,
refer to Figure1.
To identify Release 2.0 after installing the workstation, per-
form the following:
Click Start In and in the search box enter msinfo32. The CPU
type will appear in the processor description.

Who Should Use this Guide
This guide is intended for staff that operates the MW810
Mobile Workstation in vehicles. This guide assumes that
reader is familiar with basic Microsoft® Windows® 7 Pro-
fessional operations. When this is not the case, be sure to
read the documentation applicable to your version of Win-
dows.

The MW810 Mobile Workstation can be configured for simul-
taneous transmission by the following radio combinations:
European Union Notification
This Motorola product can be sold, or put into service for the
first time, anywhere in the European community.
The CE mark is the official marking required by the
European Community for all Electric and Electronic equipment
that will be sold, or put into service for the first time, any-
where in the European community.

Safety Instructions
• Use of the product during driving should be coordinated
with the government-mandated driving rules for specific
users (such as policemen, firemen, etc.).
• Do not connect or disconnect cables while your MW810
Mobile Workstation is turned on.
Reduce the risk of fire or electric shock by
following basic safety instructions:

• Protect your MW810 Mobile Workstation from liquids.
Keep your MW810 Mobile Workstation away from
water.
• Be sure that all power cord connections are securely
plugged into receptacles.
Avoid damage to the MW810 Mobile Workstation by follow-
ing basic safety instructions:
• Your MW810 Mobile Workstation generates heat when
turned on. Ensure that the CPU Box is always mounted in
the CPU Box mounting trunnion provided with each sys-
tem, to ensure proper airflow for CPU Box fans.
• The MW810 Mobile Workstation is very sensitive to
uncontrolled shut down. Never turn off the MW810
Mobile Workstation by turning off the power supply or
by disconnection of the power cable.
• Hard disk drive performance and lifetime could be short-
ened if your MW810 Mobile Workstation is not used for
long periods. Do not leave the MW810 Mobile Worksta-
tion unused for more than 3 months.
• Your MW810 Mobile Workstation automatically shuts
down when the internal temperature exceeds the upper
limit of the valid range.
• Forcing SIM or Express cards into computer slots at an
angle may damage slot connectors.
• If the MW810 Mobile Workstation stops responding, you
can turn it off by holding the Power button of the CPU
Box or Display pressed for more than 6 seconds. Be
aware that this method of shutdown may damage your
Hard Disk Drive.
• Do not insert or remove cards when the MW810 Mobile
Workstation is in Sleep state. Before you insert or
remove a card, make sure that you exit all software
applications that access the card.

What is the MW810 Mobile Workstation?
The MW810 Mobile Workstation series is one of
Motorola Solutions highest-performing and most rugged data
communication and computing solutions. It is specifically
designed for the harsh conditions of the mobile environment,
which is not suitable for conventional notebook or desktop
computers.
The MW810 Mobile Workstation is a versatile three-piece
design with separate display (12.1” or 8.4”), Central Process-
ing Unit (CPU) Box and a keyboard. A choice of configurations
enables fitting the workstation to a variety of vehicle types
and customizing installations to meet specific owner needs
and specifications.
The MW810 Mobile Workstation is a multipurpose mobile
computer with capability to provide seamless mobility. The
workstation supports multiple internal radios, providing reli-
able connectivity across a number of dissimilar public and
private data networks. Among its many communication inter-
faces, the workstation incorporates video (option) and audio
inputs, as well as an internal GPS or Dead Reckoning GPS
module options, ensuring reliable and accurate vehicle loca-
tion notification.
An optional Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) sys-
tem enables to capture license plate images from up to four
imaging sources installed in a vehicle. The plate numbers are
compared against database or hot list.
The workstation is powered by a family of high-tier proces-
sors with extensive memory.
In addition to the basic multiple port connections option (the
“No I/O Expansion Board, R2.X” option), the MW810 Mobile
Workstation is available with three optional expansion
boards:
1. The “Comm & Video I/O Expansion Board, R2.X”
2. The “ALPR I/O Expansion Board, R2.X”
3. The “Serial & USB I/O Expansion Board, R2.X”

The CPU Box
The CPU Box is a high-performance computing platform for
mission-critical applications with numerous computing, data
storage and communication capabilities. It is designed to be
permanently mounted and serve as a hub to the computing
and communications network in the vehicle.

external storage device. eSATA is only available with the
“Serial & USB I/O Expansion Board, R2.X”.

The Display
The MW810 Mobile Workstation offers three optional rugged
displays:
• 12.1” XGA high brightness display: TFT-technology dis-
play with 1500 NIT (1500 cd/m2) LED backlighting to
ensure viewing under bright light conditions.
• 12.1” XGA standard brightness display: TFT-technology
display with 500 NIT (500 cd/m2) LED backlighting.
• 8.4” SVGA high brightness display: TFT-technology dis-
play with 800 NIT (800 cd/m2) LED backlighting.
The displays offer the following features:
• Screen made of tempered glass, with a protective film to
prevent glass shattering in the event of breakage.
• Resistive Touchscreen can be activated even with a
gloved finger or a stylus pen.
• Integrated Smart Card Reader compartment (optional,
only on 12.1“ displays). Integrated Smart Card reader
slot allows a smart card to be completely IP-54 sealed.
Note that the Smart Card reader option does not include
a user application.
• Sealing against moisture.
• Optional built-in Bluetooth radio (only 12.1“Display) to
provide wireless connection to personal area peripherals
such as headset, mouse, printer etc.
• Three USB 2.0 ports on 12.1“ displays and two on
8.4“Display for connectivity to external USB devices.

Getting the MW810 Mobile Workstation Running
This section guides you through procedures to get the
MW810 Mobile Workstation ready for operation.
Unpacking
Unpack your shipment and check the contents to ensure that
you have received all the specified items. Save the packing
carton and anti-static plastic bag for future storage and ship-
ping. Both the shipping carton and the anti-static bags pro-
tect the MW810 Mobile Workstation components from
physical and electrostatic damage.
After unpacking the shipping carton, the following items
should be found if ordered as part of the system:
•CPUBox
• Display
• Keyboard
• Power Cords
• CPU-to-Display(s) cable(s)

Inspect all the items. If any item is missing or damaged,
notify your Motorola Solutions Customer Service representa-
tive immediately.
Starting the Computer
Your computer OS is already installed on the Hard Disk Drive
(HDD) or solid State Disk Drive (SDD) or mSATA memory unit
(optional).
After ensuring proper installation of the MW810 Mobile
Workstation, perform the following steps to turn on the
MW810 Mobile Workstation:

1. Press the power button on the front panel of the CPU Box
or Display- both buttons perform identical function.
2. Wait for the boot process to start and for Windows desk-
top to appear.
NOTE: The MW810 Mobile Workstation can be configured to
start by pressing the:
• Vehicle ignition switch
• CPU power button
• Display power button
The workstation can also start using a combined operations
of the items described above with selectable time-delay. For

Shutting Down the Computer
When you finish a working session, you can stop the com-
puter by turning off the power or leaving the computer in
Sleep or Hibernation mode.
Turning Off
Use the Windows OS Shut Down dialog box to turn off the
MW810 Mobile Workstation.
NOTE: The MW810 Mobile Workstation can be configured so
that the vehicle ignition switch, the power button located on
the CPU front panel, or the Display power button can turn it
off.
For more on turning Off, see “Power Off” on page 29.
Remember to save important information before
turning off your workstation.
Be aware, that rapid turning off and on can damage
your Hard Disk Drive. If you need to turn the MW810
Mobile Workstation on immediately after turning it
off, always wait for the shut down process to
complete.

CPU Box - Front Panel Components
Figure 2 shows the front panel components of the CPU Box.
Power Button
The Power Button turns the MW810 Mobile Workstation
power on and off (CPU Box & display). The button may also be
configured for entering Sleep or Hibernation modes. Note
that the MW810 Mobile Workstation may also be configured
to be turned on/off depending on the state of the vehicle igni-
tion switch. Before powering on the CPU, ensure that the On/
Off power switch on the backpanel of the CPU Box is in ON
position (see Figure 3).
Power LED
The Power LED indicates the following status:
• Green - Power on.
• Amber - Sleep state. In Sleep state, the workstation
switches to low-power consumption. When starting to
use the MW810, it restores exactly to the last used
screen position.
