1.1.Introduction
MSNswitch isdesigned toautomaticallypower-cycle either oneorbothofitsoutlets
when either;
a)internet connectivityislost(resetsRouter/Modemtorestartit), or
b)the networkdevicebeingmonitored isnolongerrespondinginLAN.
Itcan alsobe used to;
a)remotelycontroloutletsviainstantmessaging toollikeGoogleTalk(Gtalk),ora
WebUserInterface.
b)performscheduled powerOn/Off/ Reset
MSNswitch is usefulwheretheinternet connection andaccessibilitytoa remotesiteis
critical.Itcan besetupsothat when theremotebroadband/ cable/DSLconnection
dropsoriftheremoterouterfreeze-up,itwillautoresetthe routertore-gain
connectivity.MSNswitch is alsousefulfor;
1.Saving homeusersthe troubleofconstantlyhaving topower-cycletheir
routertore-gaininternetconnectivity.
2.Resetting unresponsivedevice(forinstanceIPcameraorNAS servers)
whichotherwisewillbeinaccessiblefromremote.
3.ITProfessionalswhoneed toautomaticallyorremotelyreset devices

Indefault settings,when the UISfunction isturned On,the systemwill automatically
ping pre-assigned externalIPaddress.Shouldthe pingfails onall thesites,both
Outlet1and2will automaticallypower-cycle.If theUISfunctionis Off, the system
will ignoreanyfailedpings.
Itis importanttoensurethatthe deviceisOnline, beforeactivatingthe UISfunction.
Seebelowforhardwaresetupprocedure.
Usercan change the pingsites, setwhichoutlet resetshouldping fails, setnumberof
failedping cyclesbeforereset,etc.See Section 4.2.1Configurations.

Step1:
Connectthe powercordtodeviceandwall
outlet.The twoorange LEDwill lightup,
indicatingthatthe
individualOutletisON.
Press theOrangeLED
for2secondstoturn
the Outlet On/ Off.
Step2:
ConnectthepowerplugtoMSNswitch
outlet.
Step3
:
ConnectLANcablefromyourrouter.
Step4
:
Makesurethe InternetLEDlightis blinking
toshowthattheinternetconnectionis
ready.
Pressand hold(2seconds)the “UIS
On/Off”buttontoactivateinternet
protection. Done.
Note:
InorderforMSNswitch tomaintain
continuousinternetconnectionorreset
yourxDSLmodem/Router, therouter
powerinput mustbeconnectedhere.

3.1.Introduction
MSNswitch isdesigned toworkwithouthavingtoinstall anysoftware(seehardware
setupabove).However,foradvancedusertheunitcanbe customizedand
configured forremoteaccess.Thisgivestheuserfurthercontroloverthepower
ports.
Therearetwoways toremotelycontroltheoutlets(accessfromWAN);
a.Using DDNSandPortforwarding, see Section 3.3or;
b.Using GoogleTalk instant messagingtool, seeSection3.4.
3.2.HowtoLocate&AccessMSNswitch inLAN
MSNswitch comeswithabuilt-inWeb UserInterface(WebUI)thatallowsformore
advancedcontrolovertheunit. Therearethreewaysofaccessing the Web UIin
LAN (both MSNswitch and PCareconnectedtothesamerouter).
a.byhostname(enter http://MSNswitch inthebrowserof localPC)or,
b.byusing the Netilityprogram.
c.byusing fixIP(when there’snoDHCPserver).MSNswitchwilldefaultto
192.168.0.254 ifitdoesnotdetectaDHCPserverwithin 3minutesof
start-up.
3.2.1LocateMSNswitchinLAN usingthedefaulthostname.
Step1:
Openabrowserandtype
http://MSNswitch
Step2:
Apassworddialog boxappears.
Bydefault; Usernameis: admin
(Passwordfieldisleft blank).
Press “OK”.
Note:
FormodelsUIS-311andUIS-315, onlyOutlets1and2canbe remotelycontrolled.
Thethirdoutlet isfixedforlocaluseonly.

EnterMSNswitch mainmenu.
3.2.2Locate MSNswitchinLAN usingNetilityprogram.
Step1:
Download the Netilityprogramfrom
http://www.MSNswitch.com or
http://www.Megatec.com.tw andinstall.
Onceinstalled Netilitywilllocateandlistthe
MSNswitch units.
Step2:
Click “LaunchDevice”torun Internet
Explorer(oryourdefaultbrowser) and
access theIPaddress ofthe unit.
Apassworddialog boxwillappear.
Bydefault; Username: admin (Password
fieldis leftblank). Press “OK”.
Step3:
EnterMSNswitch mainmenu.
Note:
1.Netilitycanonlydiscover MSNswitch
unitsthatarelocatedwithinthesameLAN
ornetwork.
2.NetilitywillshowLANIPifunitsare
connectedtoaRouter.Else,userwill
havetomanuallyassign anIPaddress.

ConnecttheLAN cablefromMSNswitchtoyourPC LANport
Step2:
AssignafixedIPwithinthesamesubnettoyourPC. Example:192.168.0.20and
subnetof 255.255.255.0
Step3:
OnyourPClaunchabrowser,and enterthe IP192.168.0.254 Login:admin,no
password.
Youcannowchangethis fixIPaddress toonethatyou prefer.

TheMSNswitch Web UserInterface(Web UI)abovecanbeaccessremotelyfrom
WideAreaNetwork(WAN).Todo so;
i.Setup port forwardingatyourrouter.
a.Logintoyourroutersetup/configurationpage.
b.Goto PortForwarding / Virtual server section and open(allow):WAN
Port80;Type/Protocol:TCP.
and,
ii.SetupaDomainNameforyourDynamicWANIP.Usercan choosetoeither;
a.Usethefreepre-assigneddomainname.
a.EachMSNswitch assignedauniquedomainnameas
<serial_number>.iCV99.net.
b.Renamethis bybrowsingtohttp://MSNswitch àConfiguration à

AND / OR;

createanewaccount.
Anaccountwill havetobecreated for
eachMSNswitch device.

Browseto http://MSNswitch

Select Online andenterthenewGoogle
ID andpassword.Then addyourGmail
in ContactAccount andclick Apply.
ContactAccount referstoyourown
Googleaccountorwhoeverwantsto
controlMSNswitch.
Step3:
AllowafewmomentsforMSNswitch to
connectandSignin.Theconnection
statuswill be shownon the heading.
Step4:
Onceconnected,Googleuserlistedin
ContactAccount willreceivea
notificationintheirGmail accounttoadd
MSNswitch asfriend.Click Yes to
accept.
Onceadded,usercan control
MSNswitch bychatting withit.
Note1: Ifyou donotreceivea ‘friend’notification,youmayneedtolog-ontoyournewly
createdGoogleaccountto Add friendsdirectlyfromthere.
Note2: Onlytheuserslistedin ContactAccount can commandMSNswitch.Ifyouare
removed fromthislist, youwillstillbe MSNswitch ‘friend’but will notbeabletocommandit!

commands.”

SET[ON/OFF/RESET][0/1/2] (where
0=bothoutlets,1/2=Outlets)

iii.OutletSetup
Outlet1Name, Outlet2Name
Nametheoutletinordertoidentifytheconnected device.This alsoallows
easeofreferencewhenusing MSN orsetting schedules.
Delay beforechecking Website/ IPAddress afterpowerreset
Thissection determinesiftheoutletwillreset once or twice WHENtarget
Website/ IPAddressisno longerresponding.
Ifthisissetto0(default),uponWebsite/IPAddressfailing,MSNswitch will
resetitsoutlets once.Itwillnowwaituntilthe targetWebsite/IPaddress
responds, beforerestarting the check.
Ifthisissetbetween 1and30minutes(eg.5min),then upon Website/IP
Addressfailing, MSNswitch willresetitsoutlets(1st time).It willthenwait5min,
andchecksifthetargetWebsite/IPaddressisresponding.If not,itwillreset
itsoutlets(2nd time).It willnowwaituntilthetargetWebsite/IPaddress
responds, beforerestarting the check.
Outletpowerresetdelay
Set theOff-->OndelayfortheOutlet.This appliestobothoutlets.
Power-ondelaybetweenOutlet1andOutlet2
Setthe poweron intervalbetweenOutlet1andOutlet2.Setto0todisablethis
feature.Defaultis setto10seconds.
Note:
Thisfeatureonlyworksif BOTHOutletsareintheONstate,whenpowerresets.
IftheOutletisOFF,itwill not “Reset”.
