OPERATION
M1 Turntable Instructions for Use Page 7of 8
Issue 2: March 2004
CONNECTION
All connections should be made with the
mains power switched OFF.
The accessory RCA plug pickup lead should
be connected between the pickup arm base
sockets and corresponding right and left
phono input sockets on your audio system
pre-amplifier. The red-coded plug is for the
right-hand channel, and white is for left.
The pre-amplifier sockets must have input
characteristics suitable for the cartridge type.
BEFORE SWITCHING ON. . . . .
Connect the low-voltage power lead attached
to the turntable to the corresponding 3-pin
DIN socket lead from the power supply unit.
Now plug the IEC mains lead into the power
supply rear panel socket, and the other end
into a convenient wall outlet.
The mains power supply unit has been
designed so that it may be left switched on
indefinitely, but please note that it becomes
slightly warm to the touch - this is normal.
To avoid possible magnetic hum interference
when in use, position the power supply unit
away from the pickup cartridge.
Turn the volume control on your amplifier to
minimum.
STARTING
Ensure that mains power is applied to the
power supply unit. The blue LED on the
power supply front panel will be lit and the
LED on the motor assembly shows red to
confirm that the player is ready for use.
OPERATION
To play a record, place it on the turntable
over the centre-spindle. Fit the accessory
collet clamp over the spindle, and press it
down to make firm contact with the record
label. Tighten the clamp by holding the
lower flange steady with one hand, and turn-
ing the upper knob clockwise, using moder-
ate force only. To release the record after
playing, hold the lower flange steady and
rotate the upper clamp knob anticlockwise
sufficiently to allow the clamp to slacken and
be lifted away.
There are two rotary controls on the record
deck motor assembly, located on the top left.
A three-position switch controls motor power
and speed. In mid-position, the motor is off.
Turn the switch anti-clockwise to obtain 33
1
/
3
RPM speed, or clockwise for 45RPM opera-
tion.
When either speed is selected, the indicator
LED lights red for a few seconds as the plat-
ter starts to turn, then changes to green when
the motor stabilises at the correct speed.
The other rotary control is for fine speed or
“pitch” contol. Turning it either side of the
centre-click position adjusts the record speed
continuously by up to 6% above or below the
nominal 33
1
/
3
or 45RPM settings. When not
in the centre-click position, the LED will
give brief flashes of red between longer inter-
vals of green to confirm a non-standard
speed.
Release the tone arm by shifting the retaining
clip towards the left, and then raise the arm
by moving the cueing lever towards the back
of the player.
Position the tone arm over the required
record track, then lower onto the record by
moving the cueing lever towards the front of
the player. Now adjust the volume control to
the preferred listening level.
