INSTALLATION
Professional installation by
an
authorized Memphis Car Audio/Xtreme Audio dealer
is
highly recommended. Otherwise the performance
of
your new gear may not be
satisfactory.
In
the event that you decide to do your own installation, please read and
follow this manual very carefully. Failure to read and follow the guidelines
in
this
/
manual may compromise the integrity
of
this product and your vehicle, and could
possibly void the product warranty.
Amplifiers are generally mounted
in
the hatch/trunk area or under the seat
of
a vehicle.
In
boats or UTVs, under the seat
is
an
acceptable location. Although MXA amps have
coated circuit boards to resist corrosion from humidity and dampness, be sure to
choose a mounting location that avoids direct water contact, which will cause failure
of
the amplifier. Select a location that will provide adequate ventilation for the amplifier.
The fins should be facing up -either vertically or horizontally. Secure the amplifier with
the screws provided.
WARNING!
Before securing the amplifier, inspect the mounting location carefully to ensure that you
do not drill into or damage any electrical, hydraulic, fluid, or fuel lines.

WARNING!
INSTALL
THE
FUSE
AT
THE
BATTERY
LAST!
Use conventional stranded copper wire for all connections. Finish the ends of the wires
at the amp and vehicle connection with proper size terminals. Poorly made connections,
and /or inadequate wire size will generate excessive heat and may lead to equipment
failure.
The 12 VOLT + connection
should
be
made directly at the positive battery post using
the wire size recommended below and fused within
18
of the battery. This fuse is vital
and
is
primarily intended to protect the vehicle from damage
in
case of
an
accidental
short circuit of the power wire to ground, which could cause maximum current to flow
from the battery. The fuse value at the battery should
be
adequate for
all
amplifiers
used
in
the system.
Due to their compact chassis, MXA amplifiers are not equipped with
on
board fusing.
Memphis Car Audio recommends that addition of fusing at the amplifier as well. The
fuse value recommended along with the Memphis Connection amp kit
is
below:

-4GKIT
16-MXA4.480

-8GKIT.
16-MXA5.750
BOA
17-4GKIT
Please note that the amp kit recommendations above apply only when using a single
amplifier. If your system includes multiple amplifiers, please consult a professional
installer for the best Connection solution for your installation.
The GROUND connection should be made directly to the chassis
of
the vehicle and as
close to the amp as possible. Make this connection with the same size wire as used for
the 12
Volt+
connection. Ensure that all grease, paint, and other coatings are removed
from the connection point on the chassis. If the installation
is
in
a boat, or other vehicle
without a metal chassis, run the ground connection directly to the negative post
of
the
battery.
The REMOTE TURN ON
terminal should
be
connected to the source unit's remote out
lead or power antenna output wire. When using the power antenna wire, make sure this
wire does not lose power when any source other than radio
is
selected. Ifthe source
unit does not have a remote output wire, it
is
acceptable to connect this to
an
additional
switched +12Volt source, or a switch can
be
added for manual turn
on
ofthe amp. The
remote lead must be provided with a +12Volt input for the amp to operate.

Please note that the MXA1.500 uses 2 positive and 2 negative terminals for the speaker
outputs. These are provided to make it easier to put multiple subwoofers
on
the
amplifier. The connections go to the same point inside the amplifier.
CAUTION
Always check your speaker load with a multi-meter before connecting the amplifier.
Connecting any speaker load lowerthan the rated impedance
of
the amplifier will result
in
damage to the amplifier! Such damage is not covered under warranty, so pay close
attention to what connections are made to the amplifier.

SET
UP
AND
ADJUSTMENT
Gain The gain control is NOT a volume control. The gain control adjusts the amount of
signal required to drive the amp to full output. With the gain control at maximum (full
clockwise rotation), less signal input voltage is required to drive the amp to full output.
With the gain control at minimum (full counter clockwise rotation), more signal input
voltage is required to drive the amp to full output.
Crossovers -Low Pass Filter (LPF) The Low Pass Filter is designed to remove high
frequency information from a subwoofer. This prevents the subwoofers from trying to
reproduce the mid and high frequencies that they were not designed to reproduce.
Most subwoofers are designed to operate at a frequency
of
between 80 and 1
00 Hz, but
since each system is different, you will want to fine tune the settings according to what
other components comprise the system
in
your vehicle.
Crossovers -High pass Filter (HPF) The High Pass Filter is designed to remove low
frequency information from a midrange speaker or tweeter. This prevents those
components from trying tom reproduce the low frequencies that they were not designed
to reproduce. Subjecting a tweeter
of
midrange speaker to low frequencies will not only
result
in
poor quality sound, it could cause permanent damage to the speakers, so
careful adjustment
of
this setting is suggested.
Bass Boost -This provides
an
increased emphasis in the subwoofer range for added
bass response. On the MXA
1.500, the frequency that can be boosted is adjustable
from 40Hz -100Hz, in the amount of 0-12dB. On the MXA4.480, the bass boost is
fixed at a frequency
of
45Hz and can
be
boosted by either 6dB or 12dB. On the
MXA5.750, the subwoofer channel only has a 45Hz fixed bass boost
of
0-12dB.
Subsonic Filter -This removes unwanted frequencies below the subwoofer's or
enclosure's response range. This increases the amp's efficiency by not requiring it to
reproduce frequencies below the tuning
of
the enclosure. On the MXA
1.500, this is
adjustable from 10-50Hz. On the MXA5.750, it is adjustable from 15-55Hz.
Input Mode (MXA5.750 only) -This enables you to get output from all 5 channels even
if input is only sent to 2 or 4 channels &eliminates the need for Y adaptors.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Before removing your amplifier, refer to the list below and follow the suggested
procedure. Speakers and speaker wires/connections should be tested first.
No Output:
a.
Confirm that all wiring is firmly connected.
b.
Both "12V"and "REM"terminals must have +12 Volts present and "GND" must
be connected to chassis ground or the negative terminal
of
the battery.
c.
Confirm that signal source is connected and is supplying output signal. To
confirm that the amp
is
working, connect an RCA patch cord to the line inputs
of
the amplifier (do not connect the other end
of
the patch cord). Briefly tap the
center pin
of
each (disconnected) RCA plug on the other (disconnected) end with
your finger. This should produce a noise (briefstatic or HUM)
in
the speakers.
d.
Ifthe amp is hot, check the speaker impedance,
or
load. The total minimum
impedance
of
all speakers should not be lowerthan the rating
of
the amp.
Weak Output:
a.
Check gain control adjustment
b.
Check speaker impedance
Noise in Audio:
a.
Ifthe noise is a "whine" that goes up or down with engine speed, confirm that the
amp
&
source unit is properly grounded.
b. A "clicking"or "popping"noise ata rate that follows engine speed is often induced
by the vehicle's ignition system. Confirm that the vehicle is equipped with
resistor spark plugs and wires. The ignition system may need service.
c.
Speaker and input wires should never be routed next to wires that interconnect
lights and other accessories/equipment
in
the vehicle. Re-routing
of
these wires
can often reduce noise.
d. Ifabove steps do not improve/reduce noise interference, the system should be
checked by a professional car audio installer.
