National Communications Page 3
DESCRIPTION
Our Model DP1 SURFACE MOUNT DOOR PHONE device is specifically
designed for connection to a National Communications DOOR STATION
(CONTROLLER).
The Door Phone can operate at distances of up to 300 meters from the
Controller, providing high quality cabling such as CAT5 is used.
Up to two DP1 devices can be connected to the one DOOR STATION
(CONTROLLER). This allows for a DP1 to be located at two different
locations. In this situation, the DP1 devices are connected in parallel
(see wiring connection).
OurDP1isdesignedforwallorpolemountingataheightofapproximately
1.5 meters (5 feet). Visitors should stand within 0.5 meters (20 inches)
of the Door Phone for best results.
DP1 is designed to be highly WEATHER RESISTANT and they have
proven to be highly reliable over long periods of time, providing it is not
exposed to direct rain. The Speaker is made of a plastic mylar material
and great effort has been taken to maximise weather proofing all
electroniccomponents.
Please Note : DP1 is not WATER PROOF.
Whenever your Door Phone is not under cover, a PERSPEX DOOR
PHONE COVER is highly recommended to ensure that water from rain
cannot gradually permeate through to the electronics of the Door Phone
which can cause unreliable operation and can eventually lead to
permanent failure of this device. See page 8 for further details.
A separate USER GUIDE will have been supplied with your DOOR
STATION (CONTROLLER).
It is ESSENTIAL that you read both user guides fully before
commencing installation, as the satisfactory performance of this
product is dependant on CORRECT INSTALLATION.

DOOR PHONE PERFORMANCE
This product is IDEAL for RESIDENTIAL USE or COMMERCIAL USE,
where ROAD NOISE is NOT HIGH. It is not designed for INDUSTRIAL
USE where ambient noise can be constantly high. A balance Speaker-
Microphone POT, accessed from the rear of the unit may need to be
adjustedtoachievebestperformance.
The volume of the audio communication on the internal phones
should be comfortably audible (although not quite as loud as a
telephone call) providing :

WIRING CONNECTION
Two wires must be connected between the screw terminals on the rear
of the DOOR PHONE and the DS Model Controller that it will be used
with.
*** You must use solid core telephone cable, such as CAT5
*** The polarity of these wires is not important.
Connecting to Door Station Controller Models DS1 and DS4
Using CAT5 cable or similar solid core cabling, you should connect the
CENTRE 2 PINS of the Door Phone RJ Connector on the Door Station
Controller to the 2 SCREW TERMINALS located on the rear of the
Surface Mount Door Phone. See page 6.
Connecting to Door Station Controller Models DS2,3,5 &6
These Door Station Controllers all provide for Lock Strike Control and
the power circuit to the Lock must be connected to 1 or 2 internal relays
inside the DS Controller unit. See page 7.
An interface unit with screw terminals is supplied with all Door Station
Controllers that provide Lock Strike Control. It connects to the
CONTROLLER via a short (supplied) RJ to RJ cable. This provides a
convenient means of connecting the solid core cable to DP1 and also
the wiring which must be connected to the Single Lock (DS2 & DS5) or
Dual Locks (DS3 & DS6).
If using the supplied interface box, the screw terminals connecting to
the RED and GREEN wires should be connected to the screw terminals
on the rear of the DP1 unit. The polarity of these wires is not important.
The LED on the DOOR PHONE should then switch ON as soon as power
is applied to the CONTROLLER.
Where Two Door Phones are to be used, they should both connect to
the same contacts of the interface box (ie: parallel connection).
Detailed information concerning LOCK CONTROL is provided within the
User Guide supplied with your DOOR STATION CONTROLLER.

MOUNTING THE DOOR PHONE
The DOOR PHONE should be mounted at the average face
height of 1.5 meter (5 feet) for optimum performance.
The DP1 Surface Mount Door Phone unit is designed to be fitted onto a
wall surface.
This is done by separating the Door Phone unit from the integral backing
plate, secured by a screw underneath the grey plastic label, above the
speaker.
The backing plate should then be screwed to the wall surface, before
re-attaching the Door Phone with the securing screw.
DOOR PHONE COVER
If your Door Phone is not under cover, a strong transparent DOOR
PHONE COVER is essential to ensure that water from rain cannot
gradually permeate through to the electronics of the Door Phone.
Failure to use a suitable Door Phone Cover can cause unreliable
operation and can eventually lead to permanent failure of this device.
Our Door Phone Covers are made from strong 5mm transparent perspex.
