Thank you for purchasing the AUDIO 2 DJ! The AUDIO 2 DJ is a studio-quality audio
interface that connects to your computer via high-speed USB 2.0. With its professional

2 Safety Considerations
The following sections contain important information regarding the use of the AUDIO 2 DJ.
Please read them thoroughly before using the AUDIO 2 DJ!
2.1 Warning
The AUDIO 2 DJ, in combination with an amplier, headphones or speakers, can pro-
duce sounds in decibel ranges that may cause hearing damage. For protection, set all
volume levels to a minimum before using AUDIO 2 DJ. Gradually raise the volume
controls while music is playing to set the desired listening level. If you experience any
hearing problems or ringing in the ears, consult a hearing specialist immediately.
2.2 Caution
Before connecting the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware to other electronic components, turn off
the power for all devices. Before powering your system up or down, set all volume
levels to minimum.
The AUDIO 2 DJ hardware contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not open it or attempt
to disassemble or modify any internal hardware. If there appears to be a hardware
malfunction, immediately stop using the hardware and contact Native Instruments.
Do not expose the AUDIO 2 DJ to rain, and do not use it near water or in damp or wet
conditions. Also, never place anything on top of the controller, and be careful that no
objects or liquids of any kind enter the unit.
The AUDIO 2 DJ hardware is powered via USB. Operation can be guaranteed only as
a single device with a USB 2.0 controller or with a self-powered USB 2.0 hub.
Do not place the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware in an unstable position where it might acci-
dentally fall to the ground.
Before moving the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware, remove all connected cables.

Never subject the unit to extreme temperatures (e.g. direct sunlight in an enclosed
vehicle or near a heat source) or high levels of vibration.
Do not use excessive force on the buttons, knobs, switches or connectors.
When cleaning the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use paint thin-
ner, solvents, cleaning uids, or chemically-impregnated wiping cloths.
2.3 Important Notes
Disclaimer: Native Instruments GmbH cannot be held responsible for damage or data
loss caused by improper use of, or modication to, the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware or software.
It is your responsibility to back up data you do not want to lose.
Specications subject to change: The information contained in this manual is believed

Nameplate location: The nameplate is located on the bottom of the AUDIO 2 DJ hard-
ware and lists the Production ID.

4 Installation
This chapter provides step-by-step instructions explaining how to install the drivers and
software needed for using the AUDIO 2 DJ.
To make use of the
AUDIO 2 DJ
, you need to install its driver rst. The driver handles
communication between the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware and your computer.
The driver itself is not accessible: like any other driver on your operating system, it is a piece
of software loaded in the background when your system starts up. The driver takes care of
all audio coming from the AUDIO 2 DJ hardware through the USB 2.0 connection.
Although the driver itself is inaccessible, you can edit some of its settings to modify its
behavior for your audio setup.
These settings can be edited. How to achieve this will be explained in detail in chapter 8
“Understanding the Control Panel.”

4.1 Installing the AUDIO 2 DJ Driver on Windows XP and Windows
Vista
Do not connect the AUDIO 2 DJ to your computer until the installation of the driver is
completed!
1. Place the installation DVD-ROM in your computer’s CD/DVD-ROM drive.
2. Use the Windows Explorer to browse the content of the DVD.
3. Double-click the installer le named “Audio 2 DJ Driver Setup.”
4. Click “Next.”
5. To continue, you need to accept the license agreement rst. After you have read the
license agreement, check the according checkbox and click “Next.”

6. Select the Windows Program Folder you would like to add AUDIO 2 DJ shortcuts to.
To use the default path, just click “Next.” To set a custom folder, type in a path and
name, then click “Next.”
7. The InstallAware Wizard will prompt you to begin the conguration by clicking “Next.”
Click “Next” to proceed.
8. During the driver installation a Windows security warning will appear. This does not
indicate a problem. To proceed with the installation, click “Continue Anyway” (on
Windows XP) or “Install” (on Windows Vista, pictured).

9. Once the installation has been performed successfully, click “Finish.”
10. After the installer has nished running, connect the
AUDIO 2
DJ to a USB 2.0 port
on your computer, using the USB cable included in the package. Windows will identify
the AUDIO 2 DJ and begin the nal installation process.
11. Choose “No” if Windows asks you to search the Internet for a driver.
12. Choose “Automatic” when Windows asks you how to install the software.
13. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.
14. After you have completed the installation procedure, the installer will start again. You
need to pass through the same sequence of installer steps once again in order to in-
stall all required driver components. This is an intended behavior, so just follow along
in order to nish the installation.

4.2 Uninstalling the AUDIO 2 DJ Drivers on Windows XP and Windows
Vista

To uninstall the AUDIO 2 DJ drivers from your computer:
1. Open “Control Panel” and choose “Add/Remove Software.”
2. Choose “Native Instruments Audio 2 DJ Driver” from the list.
3. Click the “Remove” button.
4. Choose “Uninstall” from the wizard.
Windows Vista
Open “Control Panel” and choose “Programs and Features”
Choose “Native Instruments Audio 2 DJ Driver” from the list
Click the “Remove” button.
Choose “Uninstall” from the wizard.

4.3 Installing the AUDIO 2 DJ Driver on Mac OS X
1. Connect the AUDIO 2 DJ to a USB 2.0 port on your computer using the USB cable
provided in the AUDIO 2 DJ box.
2. Place the installation DVD-ROM in your computer’s CD/DVD-ROM drive. Its icon will
appear in the Mac OS X Finder.
3. Double-click the “AUDIO 2 DJ” DVD icon to display the content of the DVD.
4. Double-click the installer le. The installation procedure will start, and a Welcome
screen will appear.
5. Click “Continue” to proceed.
6. Select a destination volume and proceed by clicking “Continue.”

7. Click “Install” to install the driver in the default path.
8. Mac OS X will prompt you to authenticate the installation. To authenticate, enter the
name and corresponding password of a user who has administrator privileges.
9. The next screen informs you about the progress of the installation procedure.

10. Once the installation has been performed successfully, you will be prompted to restart
your Mac. Click “Restart” to restart your computer.
11. After you have restarted your computer, the AUDIO 2 DJ should be ready to use.
4.4 Uninstalling the AUDIO 2 DJ Drivers on Mac OS X
To uninstall the AUDIO 2 DJ drivers from your computer, delete the following les manually:
/Library/PreferencePanes/NIUSBAudio.prefPane
/Library/Preferences/com.caiaq.Native Instruments.MIDI.plist
/System/Library/Extensions/NIUSBAudio2DJ.kext
4.5 Installation of the Control Panel

Information on how to use the Control Panel can be found in chapter 8 “Understanding

4.5.1 Installing the Control Panel on Windows XP and Windows Vista
This section describes the installation and the uninstall process of the Control Panel on
a Windows PC.
Installing the Control Panel
The Control Panel will be installed along with the driver of the AUDIO 2 DJ. Please fol-
low the instructions on installing the AUDIO 2 DJ driver given in chapter 4.1 “Installing
the AUDIO 2 DJ Driver on Windows XP and Windows Vista.” There is no interaction re-
quired.
Uninstalling the Control Panel on Windows XP and Windows Vista
The Control Panel can be uninstalled along with the driver of the AUDIO 2 DJ. Please follow
the instructions on uninstalling the AUDIO 2 DJ driver given in chapter 4.2 “Uninstalling the
AUDIO 2 DJ Drivers on Windows XP and Windows Vista.” There is no interaction required.
4.5.2 Installing the Control Panel on Mac OS X
This section describes the installation and the uninstall process of the Control Panel on
Mac OS X.
Installing the Control Panel
The Control Panel will be installed along with the driver of the AUDIO 2 DJ. Please follow
the instructions on installing the AUDIO 2 DJ driver given in chapter 4.3 “Installing the
AUDIO 2 DJ Driver on Mac OS X.” There is no interaction required.
Uninstalling the Control Panel on Mac OS X
There is no option to uninstall the Control Panel automatically. Simply follow the instruc-
tions in chapter 4.4 “Uninstalling the AUDIO 2 DJ Drivers on Mac OS X” to uninstall the
Control Panel.

5 Registration and Product Authorization
Registering the AUDIO 2 DJ is not mandatory. Nevertheless, registration is recommended,
as it can be helpful in case of a support inquiry or a theft. To register your AUDIO 2 DJ on
the Native Instruments website, use the serial number from the product activation sticker
inside your AUDIO 2 DJ product package.
To register your AUDIO 2 DJ:
1. Open your standard internet browser.
2. Open the Native Instruments website: www.native-instruments.com.
3. In the navigation at the top of the page, click on “Support.”
4. On the next page, click on “Product Activation.”
5. Since you only need to register the serial number, please read further in section B) Serial
Number Registration and click on the link labeled “Register the serial number here.”
6. If you have never registered a Native Instruments product, choose “Create User
Account.” Choose Additional Product Registration if you already are a registered user
of a Native Instruments product.
7. In any case, the subsequent web pages will provide a step-by-step guide through the
registration.

6 AUDIO 2 DJ Hardware
In this chapter you will learn about the AUDIO 2 DJ’s controls and connectors. We will refer
to some of the terms introduced here later on, so please use the information provided in
the following sections as a reference.
The AUDIO 2 DJ provides the following features:

6.1 Overview
The AUDIO 2 DJ hardware device is the external connector between your computer and
any peripheral equipment used for audio playback, such as headphones, a DJ mixer,
an amplier or active speakers. Here is an overview of the AUDIO 2 DJ’s connectors
and controls:

6.2 Outputs
Front Panel: Output Sockets
1 and 2 - Outputs (Line and Headphone)
Use these ¼" stereo output sockets to connect the AUDIO 2 DJ to your headphones,
your DJ-mixer or your amplier. Specications are identical for both outputs, so you can
connect your headphones, amplier or DJ mixer to either output. If you want to connect
the AUDIO 2 DJ to a device that does not offer ¼" input sockets, e.g. a DJ-mixer or hi-
amplier, use the cable (¼" jack to RCA) provided in the AUDIO 2 DJ box. Please note:
Connecting the AUDIO 2 DJ to powered speakers may require additional cables and ¼"
stereo jack to 2 x ¼" mono socket adapters (not included).
