Introduction
Ness S2 is an advanced, waterproof (IP65 rated) proximity and PIN Access Contro er. S2 can support 2500 users
uti izing three access modes; Card on y - Card p us PIN - Card or PIN
S2 can operate in standa one mode, with its interna re ay activating when an authorized user is granted access or can
interface to 3
rd
party products via its 26 Bit Wiegand output
Installation
Dri a ho e in the wa to match the ocation of the
cab e at the rear of the S2 or mount a suitab e wa
mount junction box
Thread the cab e through cab e ho e and connect
re ated cab es. Take care to insu ate the unused
cab es to prevent shorting
Fix the back cover to the wa or distribution box
with screws and secure the contro er to the back
casing

Programming
0 - Resetting to Factory Defaults
To reset to factory defau ts, power off then press and ho d the * key whi e powering up. S2 wi beep twice and the
LED wi g ow orange. Re ease the * key and the S2 wi be ready for one of the fo owing options:
1) Presenting the “Add User Master Card” to S2’s Reader to add a new user
2) Presenting the “De ete User Master Card” to de ete a current user
3) Presenting a b ank EM card to rep ace an “Add User Master Card” or “De ete User Master Card”. In this
case the first b ank card presented wi become the new “Add User Master Card” and the second b ank
card presented wi become the new “De ete User Master Card”. The LED wi f ash Red confirming that S2
has been reset to factory defau ts and new Master Cards added. If the new Master Cards are not presented
within 10 seconds S2 wi resume User Operating Mode and the LED wi g ow steady Red
When resetting to factory defau ts the user's information is sti retained

Program Option Commands. To Exit Program Mode press *. If no keys are pressed for 60 seconds S2 wi
automatica y exit Program Mode and resume Operation Mode

empty card s ot. This makes it difficu t to de ete a card as its a ocated card s ot (ID number) wi not be known

3.2 A ing Car Users Manually (Recommen e metho )

S2 wi auto assign PIN “1234” (Factory Defau t) to programmed cards. If the system is set for ‘Card AND PIN’
for access you must go to “User Settings” and assign an individua PIN to each card
This is the recommended method of adding Card Users as the ID Number of a cards programmed wi be known
making it easy to se ect any individua card you may wish to de ete
3.3 A ing “PIN Only” Users (No car )

to be added repeat the process for each User

3.5 A ing Users with the “A User Master Car ”
User Cards can be added anytime without entering Program Mode by using the “Add User Master Card” that
comes with the unit (or card that you have programmed)

4.4 Deleting Users using the “Delete User Master Car ”
Cards may be de eted anytime without entering Programming mode using the “De ete User Master Card” that
comes with the S2 (or other programmed card)

Ness 6DA contro ers etc it may be necessary to set the address of the reader
When programmed to Address 0 (Defau t) the Wiegand Output uses standard 26 Bit Wiegand protoco .
When set to address 1, 2 or 3 the Wiegand Output appends Ness encrypted protoco s to S2’s address

Assigning a PIN to a CARD
If the system is programmed for access is to be granted with “Card and PIN” (Programming Option 32 set) a PIN
for each Card must be assigned using this option. (The Factory Defau t when cards are first programmed into
the system is PIN 1234)

If the Door Access Contro Setting (Section 6) is programmed to “Card or PIN”, access wi be granted by
presenting a va id Card to the Reader or by entering a va id PIN

If unsuccessfu , the S2 wi sound 3 Beeps and the ike y cause wi be a non va id Card (unprogrammed or
incorrect y programmed) or incorrect PIN entry (refer to Programming Section 3, “Adding Users”)
If a Card is presented and the LED g ows steady S2 is waiting for a PIN to be entered. If this is not intended refer
to Programming Section 6 “Door Access Contro Settings” and se ect the correct Access Setting

Unlocking the Door By Car AND PIN
If Door Access Contro is set to “Card” (Section 6), access wi be granted by presenting a va id Card to the Reader.
The LED wi g ow RED upon the presentation of the va id Card in readiness for a PIN entry within 5 seconds.
If the Card and PIN combination are both va id the LED wi f ash Green for the un ock time and the Re ay wi
activate for the un ock period.
If no PIN is entered within 5 seconds S2 wi time out and the LED wi return to its norma red F ashing mode.
AND
S2 wi sound 3 beeps if the entered PIN is inva id or incorrect
Resetting / Restoring an Alarm
If an A arm occurs for any reason e.g. Door Forced Open or Open Too Long it can be reset by presenting A va id
card to the Reader or by entering the Master Code
