12. You should now only have the HyperTerminal window open and all settings should be complete. The device you intend to control should
now respond to ASCII commands as typed into the main HyperTerminal service. You will find a list of available device independent and
device dependent commands in the laboratory instrument manual.
Depending on the equipement being controlled, you have to press ENTER key to execute a command. If the controlled device provides
feedback in ASCII text, and if you are using a three wire interconnect (Transmit/Receive in both directions), you may also see responses
from the device you are controlling in the main hypertext window.
Example Syntax when Using HyperTerminal
Please see below for example commands in HyperTerminal when using the NPC1USB Amplifier paired with the NPX400 Motion Stage
from Newport Corporation.
Once all parts instruments are connected and HyperTerminal setup is complete. You should have a SOLID ORANGE light on the LED
Display. This indicates the device is in NOT REFERENCED.
To move the device from NOT REFERENCE to READY State you will type in the command: 1OR and press ENTER. This should now give you
a SOLID GREEN light on the LED Display.
To move the NPX400 an absolute amount type in the command 1PA# example: 1PA45 will move the stage the absolute value to the left. If
you want to move the stage the opposite way, you would simply type the command 1PA-45.
If you want to see the the absolute or relative postion of the stage you can do this at anytime. Simply type in the follwing commands:
1PA? = Give absolute position
1PR?= Give relative position
Finally, If you need to REST the controller for any reason and go back to the NOT REFERENCE state, simply type command RS and press
ENTER. This will give you a SOLID ORANGE light on the LED Display.
