NEWTON TITANNP400 – INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Thepumpissupplied withaone-wayvalve(check valve).Thispreventswaterwithinthe discharge
pipe fallingback intothe chamber.Thecheckvalveisthe interfaceforconnectingthe wastepipe.
Thecheck valvessupplied aredesigned tobe usedwith40mmPVCsolventweldwastepipe.This
isthe standardpipefound inall plumbingsuppliesand DIYstores.Thecheck valveshavearubber
couplingabovetheone-wayvalve.Check the direction offlowtoensurethe valveisfacingthe
correctway.Thisrubbercouplinghasan internaldiameterof48mmandhasajubilee clipfor
tighteningtothe wastepipe.
You needa40mmwastepipe straightconnectortofitintotherubbercoupling.Thesehavean
externaldiameterof48mmand fitintothe rubbercoupling.40mmwastepipethen fitsintothe
straight connector.
Use oftwoNP400’sinatwo-pump installation
Inatwo-pumpinstallation, it isbeneficialtohaveone pumpset tostart beforetheothersothat the
alarmhasspacetooperateintheeventoffailureofpumpone. Itisverysimpletosetone switch
abovetheothersothatoneNP400pumptocomesonbeforethe other.
ELECTRICALCONNECTION
Theunit shouldbe wired toeitherasocket viaaplug, orhardwired. Inbothinstances, a5ampfuse
shouldbeused.It isadvised thatan independentfeed beusedfromthe consumerboxsothatthe
unit isnotaffectedbythe trippingoutofotherelectricaldevices.
WARRANTY
Thepumphasa1-yearwarrantyfromthe dateofproven firstinstallation orthedateofsaleifthis
cannotbe proven.Ifthe pumpfailswithinthisperiod wewill replacethe pumpand investigatethe
failure.If the failureisdue tonegligenceormiss-use,all warrantiesarevoided.Ifthepumpisfound
tobe infull workingorder,itwill be returned,and anyreplacementpumpsenttoyou willbe billed
for.

line checkvalvescan be used
forthis.

Switch Mounting
Thepumpissuppliedwithaversatileswitchingsystemthatallowsfortheswitchingofthe pumpto
be almostasflexibleasyou require,asnotonlycan theswitching rangebeadjusted,butalsothe
heightofpositioningofthe floatisalsoveryadjustable.The switchisdesigned tobe located tothe
pumpdischargeline asshowninthefigurebelow. Thehoseclamporjubilee clipissupplied.
Inmost casesthe switchhead should
be mountedsoit isjustabovethe top
ofthemetalhandleasshowninthe
figureadjacent.
Thisensuresthat the pumpoperates
at thecorrectheight.
Toshorten the pumpoperation,
simplypushup the ‘float stop’sothat
it ishigherup the‘liftrod’and lower
the wholeswitchsothat thepump
switchesoff soonerthanit would
ordinarily.
Thisisparticularlyusefulfortwin
pumpoperationswheretheswitching
ofone pumpbeforetheotheris
required. Ifthisisdone, you must
ensurebytestingthat the switchturns
the pumpoffbeforethepump
reachesitsminimumpumpdepth,
otherwisethe pumpmaynot beable
toturnoff, resultingindryrunning
and damagetothe pump.

INSTALLATIONINPERMEABLE FREE DRAINING SOILS
When the SumpBasinistobeinstalled withinfree drainingsoil, theBasinmustnot beperforatedso
thatthesystemisnotdraininglargevolumesofwaterfromthesurroundingsoil.TheBasinmust
alsobesitedwithinconcrete,andtiesmust beusedtoanchorthe SumpBasinintothesurrounding
concretetopreventfloatation.

Digaround holereadytoreceivetheSumpBasin.Thehole
shouldbe 680mmdeeperthan the height youwouldwant the
lidtobeat oncethe installationiscomplete.Thebottomof
the holeshouldbeasflat aspossibleandbeat least 510mm
across.Theholeshouldget widerat thetop as650mmof
widthisrequired at lidheight.
Finishedfloor level
Lay50-60mmof concretelean mixtothebottomofthe hole.
Placethe basinintheholeand adjust theheight bybeddinginto
drop basinorpullinguptoraiseit. Ensurethechamberislevel.

Drill holesandpunchabout6to8coachboltsorrodsthrough
the small holesinthechamberintothe sub soil asanchors.
Makeall pumpand drainageconnectionsthroughtheside of
the Titanat thisstage.
Check height andlevelonceagain. Fitthelid.
Concretearound the SumpBasinensuringthat thechamberremains
level.
Keeponthelid. Screedaround theSumpBasinusingthe
lidasadatum.

INSTALLATIONINCLAY
When the SumpBasinistobeinstalled withinclayit ispossibletoinstall theSumpBasinwithin
concreteorwithstonesurroundingthe Basin.Ifwithstonesurrounding, the Basinmust beperforated
topreventflotation ofthe SumpBasinbythewaterwithinthe stone.BeforetheSumpBasinisplaced
intothe ground,drill the basinasshownwith32 holesof 8mmdiameter. If withconcreteonly
surroundingpleaseseetheattached sheet ‘Titan Installationimpermeablesoils’.

Fill around the Basinwith20mmstonetothebottomofthe slab.
EnsuretheBasinislevel.
Makeall pumpand drainageconnectionsthroughtheside ofthe
SumpBasinat thisstage.
Fit the Basinlid. Checkleveloncemore.Concreteinthe Sump
Basinfromthe topofthe stonetothetopof the slab.
Keeponthelid. Screedaround thetopof the SumpBasin.
