Email Configuration for the BlackBerry 6510™
The intention of this document is to explain how to set the preferences on your email settings for the
BlackBerry 6510. Configuration settings can be managed either from the Desktop Manager on your PC or
from the handheld itself.
Desktop Manager Email Configuration
Folder Content Synchronization
To change the email configuration settings you need to
access the Desktop Manager.
1. Go to the Desktop Manager on your PC
2. Double click the Intellisync Application
3. Click Configure Email
In the Email Configuration window, there are two primary
synchronization settings.
•Import moves and deletes to handheld only
•Synchronizes moves and deletes (this is the default
setting for the Desktop Manager
If you choose Import moves and deletes to handheld only you are requesting the following:
Messages moved or deleted are only reflected on the handheld. If a message is moved or deleted from
the handheld it will NOT be moved or deleted on the desktop unless that action was initiated from the
desktop.
Choosing Synchronize moves and deletes will allow changes made on the handheld and/or desktop to
be reflected on the desktop and handheld respectively.
Messages moved on your handheld will be moved on your desktop once you have synchronized.
If you choose to have information synchronized between your BlackBerry and the desktop, there may be
situations where the information on the handheld is not the same as on your desktop because you’ve made
conflicting changes in both locations. For example, you make changes on your PC before you synchronize
your BlackBerry.
By setting the preferences in the Desktop Manager, you set the preferences for how to resolve these
discrepancies. You have two options for handling these discrepancies:
•Desktop wins (this is the default setting for the Desktop Manager)
•Handheld wins

If you choose Desktop Wins:
If you make a change on the handheld and make a change on the desktop before you synchronize, the
change made on the desktop will override the change made on the handheld.
If you choose Handheld Wins:
If you make a change on the handheld and make a change on the desktop before you synchronize, the
change made on the handheld will override the change made on the desktop.
Handheld Email Configuration
Message Options for Synchronization
In addition to configuration settings on the Desktop Manager, you should also be aware of the configuration
settings on the handheld. There is a feature on the handheld that allows you to determine how you want
messages deleted from the handheld to be handled during synchronization. By default, the handheld is set
to only delete messages from the handheld, not from the desktop. The synchronization, however, will be
affected by how the Desktop Manager has been configured.
The two handheld settings are:
•Delete On: Handheld (this is the default setting on the handheld)
•Delete On: Handheld and Desktop
Below is a list of all possible configuration settings for the Desktop Manager and the handheld. The table
illustrates the end result for the deleted message during synchronization.
Note: The application and device default combination has been bolded below.

Filtering Email Messages
The Desktop Manager also allows you to filter the messages being sent to your handheld. This enables you
to only receive those messages that you have set.
By default, you will not receive messages unless they have been either sent TO you, or you have been
BCC’d or CC’d on the address line of the email. So by default, you will not receive any distribution list
emails on your BlackBerry 6510. To change this setting, follow the steps below.
From the Desktop Manager
1. Go to the Desktop Manager on your PC
2. Double click the Redirector Settings Application
3. Click the Filters tab
4. Click the radio button labeled Forward messages to the
handheld
5. Click Apply
6. Click OK
Personal Folder Synchronization
By default, the BlackBerry 6510 will NOT allow you to file emails to your personal folders. By changing the
default, you can file messages from your handheld to be placed into the personal folders on your PC the
next time you synchronize. This requires you to set the preference from your desktop.
