Description
The DH air heater heats the pattern air for hot melt adhesive application
systems that typically include a DM adhesive melter and DF adhesive
applicators. Figure 2 shows the key parts of a DH air heater. Refer to
Technical Data at the end of this manual for dimensions and specifications.
Operation of the air heater begins when an air supply is connected to the air
input fitting. The air is forced through a series of holes that surround the
heater housing, heated to a specified temperature, and delivered to the
applicator through the air output fitting. Figure 3 shows the flow of air
through the air heater.
Temperature sensing is accomplished via an integral temperature sensor.
The sensor supplies temperature information to the temperature controller,
which then activates the heater as needed to maintain the specified
temperature.

Installation
Installation involves mounting the air heater, connecting the electrical
connector, and making the pneumatic connections.
Air Heater Mounting 1. Before mounting the air heater:
SConsider the location of the applicator and the lengths of the hoses,
cordsets, and cables that will be connected to the applicator. Hoses
have a minimum bending radius.
SConsider the length of air tubing that will be required.
SKeep plant traffic patterns in mind. Avoid running cables or hoses
where they may be stepped on—this is a personnel safety hazard
and can also compromise the service life of the air heater.
2. Mount the air heater in the desired location. Typically, the air heater is
mounted directly on an applicator using a 1/4NPT, no. 6 MC swivel
fitting, as shown in Figure 4.
NOTE: If the air heater is to be mounted remotely at a distance of 1 m
(3 ft) or more from the applicator, Nordson Corporation recommends
that a heated hose be used to connect the two units. Doing so will
prevent heat loss.
