Achtung:
Wenn Sie den Riindelring des Baionetts zum Lesen drehen, beide
Teile,
also Pistolengriff und Obiektivkopf beim Obiektivwechsel
bzw . Pistolengriff und Kamera beim Kamerawechsel festhalten.
Dies geht ganz leicht, wenn Sie einen Teil am Kerper abstatzen,
wie es die Abb. 2 zeigt .
Beim Obiektiv-Wechsel: Linke Hand halt den Obiektivkopf!
Beim Fotografieren: Linke Hand am Griff, rechte Hand am Kamera-
Ausloser!
Caution:
When you turn the knurled bayonet lock ring to separate the
camponents, hold both parts tightly, the pistol-grip and lens head
when changing lenses - or the pistol-grip and camera when chang-
ing camera. This is easily done by resting one part against your
body, as illustrated in picture No.2.
Attention:

NOVOFLEX-SchnellschuBobjektive
Obiektiv- und Kamerawechsel sind bei den neuen NOVOFLEX-
SchnellschuBabiektiven durch Schraubbaionett in Sekundenschnelle
moglich. Dieses Schraubbaionett gewahrleistet auch
im hartesten
Dauergebrauch eine sichere und spielfreie Verbindung der einzel-
nen Teile und
1st praktisch keiner AbnOtzung unterworfen.
Das NOVOFLEX-Schnellschu8objektiv und sein System:
Das Grundgerat ist der (SchnellschuB-) Griff, an dem vorne mittels
Baionett wechselweise die Brennweiten
5,6 /2 80, 5,6 / 400 und 8/ 600 mm
angeschlossen werden k6nnen. Hinten k6nnen mittels Baionett die
AnschluBstOcke
oder das Balgengerat "U" fOr die auf Seite 7 auf-
gefOhrten Kameras angesetzt werden.
In Abb. 1 ist der Aufbau des NOVOFLEX-SchnellschuBobiektiv-
systems
fOr das Kameraformat 24 x 36 mm graphisch dargestellt.
Der NOVOFLEX-Schnelleinstellgriff 6X6
Zum Novoflex-SchnellschuBgriff 6 x 6 gehort das Noflexar
5,6 / 500 mm . Mit Hilfe eines Spezial-Adapters ist die Verwendung
des Novoflex-SchnellschuBgriffes 6 x 6 an Kleinbildkomeras mog-
lich.

Das NOVOFLEX-SchnellschuBobiektiv wird mit AnpassungsstOck-
wie ein gewohnliches Obiektiv - in die Kamera eingesetzt. Wel-
ches AnpassungsstOck Sie

groBere Entfernungen fotografrert wird, kann es gelegentlich nutz-
lich sein, auch
auf kurzere Entfernungen einstellen zu konnen.
Das kann
auf sehr einfache Weise erreicht werden, wenn statt
des betr. AnschluBstUckes (COBA,
LEBA usw.) ein kopfstehendes
Balgengeriit

KameraanschluB bei Filmkameras
Zur Verwendung des Novoflex-Schnellschuf3objektivs mit den Film -
kameras Bolex H
16 Reflex, Beaulieu und Pathe Webo sollte ein
Novoflex-Verbindungsbugel benutzt werden
(PIBOLEX fOr Bolex
H
16 Reflex, PIBEA fOr Beaulieu und PIWEBO fOr Pathe Webo).
Beim Anschluf3 des 400 mm und 600 mm Noflexars ist seine Ver-
wendung unbedingt notwendig.
Bei der Montage wird zuerst der Objektivrevolver der Kamera
durch die von den Kamerawerken hierfOr gelieferte Feststell-
schraube blockiert und donn das
fOr Ihre Kamera vorgesehene
AnpassungsstOck
in die Kamera eingeschraubt. Hierauf setzen Sie
das komplette Schnellschuf3abjektiv
in das Anpassungsstock und
verbinden Kamera und Objektiv durch den Verbindungsbugel
(Abbildung
4) .
Bei Verwendung eines NOVOFLEX-Schnellschuf3objektives on der
Arriflex wird der Verbindungsbugel nicht ben6tigt.
Nachdem der Verlongerungstubus
PITUB-B zwischen Pistolengriff
und Objektivkopf befestigt ist, ist das Objektiv aufnahmebereit.

Justierung des Kameraanschlusses
Die AnschluBstUcke werden Yom We rk so geliefert, daB die an-
geschlossene Kamera gerade steht. Sallte dies (etwa durch
ge waltsames Verdrehen od er ein ab weichendes Kameragewinde)
einmal nicht der Fall sein, so ist ein Nachstellen, wie folgt,
moglich :
Bei abgenommener Kamera werden die drei
Schrauben
(s . Abb. 5) am AnschluBstUck ge-
lost (nicht ausgeschraubt) und der Gewinde-
ring, falls die Kamera nach rechts hongt,
um
den fehlenden Betrag nach links gedreht.
Nach Anziehen
der drei Schrauben wird die
Kamera aufgeschraubt und die Stellung ge-
prOft. Hongt jetzt die Kamera nach links, ist
der Gewindering nach rechts zu drehen. Dies
wird wiederholt, bis die Kamera richtig steht.

Wie bereits geschildert, erlaubt das NOVOFLEX-SchnellschuB-
System
auf Grund seines fortschrittlichen Konstruktionsprinzips
den Objektivwechsel innerhalb
des Bildformates.
Die Objektivkopfe NOFLEXAR 280 , 400 und 600 mm fUr den Schnell-
schuBgriff 24 x 36 haben Bajonette und werden einfach in den
SchnellschuBgriff B eingesetzt. Beim Austausch des NOFLEXAR
400 mm gegen den 600 mm Objektivkopf wird die Linsenfassung E
aus dem
400 mm Objektivkopf geschraubt und dafOr der Objektiv-
kopf
600 mm einge sc hraubt.
Aufnahme
Bei Fernaufnahmen wirkt sich einfallendes Licht besonders storend
aus. Machen Sie es si
ch deshalb zur Gewohnheit, die Sonnenblende
vor jeder Aufnahme abzunehmen und in Gebrauchsstellung auf
das Objektiv aufzusetzen.

Die Autnahmehaltung ist bei Gebrauch des Navoflex-SchnellschuB-
obiektivs genau die gleiche, 015 wenn Ihre Kamera mit einem
Normalobiektiv ausgestattet ware: Sie halten das SchnellschuB-
obiektiv mit angesetzter Kamera mit einer Hand am Pistolengriff,
wah rend die andere wie gewohnt schuBbereit am Ausloser liegt.
Die
Arme sind dabei leicht am Korper angelegt - das schutzt vor
Verwackeln . Wahrend Sie durch den Sucher blicken, drucken Sie
den Pistol eng riff zusammen, bis das Bild scharf auf der Matt-
scheibe erscheint und losen aus. Da durch den Pistolengriff die
Einstellbewegung in Richtung der optischen Achse verlauft, "steht"
das Obiekt immer ruhig auf der Mattscheibe.
Die Einstellung der Scharfe mit dem Pistolengriff macht sich be-
sonders vorteilhaft bei Schnappschussen von bewegten Motiven
bemerkbar . Durch lockern oder Verstarken des Drucks auf den
Pistolengriff folgen Sie blitzschnell ieder Bewegung Ihres Obiekts.
Dabei bleiben Sie immer schuBbereit, do ia die andere Hand am
Ausloser liegt. Nach kurzer Zeit schon regulieren Sie den Druck
Ihrer Hand auf den Pistolengriff ganz instinktiv, so daB Ihnen die
gefUrchteten Tele-Schnappschusse auf bewegte Motive mit der
Novoflex-Ausrustung so leicht fallen wie die Aufnahmen mit einem
gewohnlichen Obiektiv kurzer Brennweite.
Sollte nach langerem Gebrauch die Einstellung nicht mehr so leicht
gehen, so ist nach Abschrauben der vorderen (4) und hinteren Ge-
windekappe (4 a) ieweils ein Tropfen Nahmaschinenol in die FOh -
rungshulse einzutraufeln.
Dos Novoflex-SchnellschuBobiektiv ist fOr Schnappschusse aus
freier Hand konstruiert. Aufnahmen mit dem 400 mm Noflexar bei
einer Belichtungszeit von 'hoo Sekunde machen keine Schwierig-
keiten; bei langeren Belichtungszeiten und beim Gebrauch des
600 mm Noflexars empfehlen wir die Verwendung des Novoflex-
Brust- oder Schullerslalivs. Sie bieten besonders Sicherheit gegen
das Verwackeln der Aufnahmen und konnen selbstverstandlich mit
allen Novoflex-SchnellschuBobiektiven verwendet werden .

Unten
im Pistolengriff befindet sich das Gewinde 3, das zum Be ·
festigen des Brust- und Schulterstativs PISTOCK dient. Zur Befesti·
gung des Obiektivs auf einem normalen Stativ ist dieses Gewinde
3 n i c h t geeignet!
Fur Zeitaufnahmen kann die Einstellung des Pistolengriffs durch
die Feststellkniipfe 2 auf beiden Seiten arretiert werden.
Fur Stativaufnahmen mit dem NOFLEXAR 600 ist wegen der extrem
langen Brennweite die NOVOFLEX-Stativschelle PISTAR erforder-
lich . Diese wird einfach auf das NOVOFLEX-SchnelischuBobiektiv
aufgeschoben (s. Abb. 6). Sie kann ouch mit dem NOVOFLEX-
SchnelischuBabiektiv 400 mm verw endet werden.

Justierung auf unendlich
Novoflex-SchnellschuBobiektive werden im Werk so iustiert, daB
bei ganz zusammengedrucktem Pistolengriff Unendlicheinstellung
erreicht wird.
Da aber die Obiektive mit vielen Kameras und ver-
schiedenen Zwischenringen verwendet werden, kann es
in dem
einen
oder anderen Fall erforderlich sein, cine nachtrdgliche Fein-
ius tierung vorzunehmen. Diese Feiniustierung konncn Sie selbst
ausfUhren.
Es ist dabei gleichgultig, mit welchem Obiektivkopf Sie
iustieren: aile Noflexare sind auf r.;in gleiches MoB gebracht, so
daB eine Einstellung fUr aile Brennweiten stimmt.
Zur Feiniustierung drucken Sie den Pistolengriff ganz zusammen
und visieren einen Unendlichpunkt an, der uber
500 m entfernt ist.
1st dieser nicht scharf, dann schrauben Sie die Rdndelkappe 4 a ab,
so daB die darunter liegendc Schraube frei wird und drehen sie
etwas nach links
oder rcchts. Dann wird die Rdndelkappe wieder
aufgesetzt und die Justierung durch
das Anvisieren des Unendlich-
punktes uberprufj.
Je nach dem, ob er schdrfer oder unschdrfer
geworden ist, drehen Sie die Schraube
in gleicher oder entgegen-
gesetzter Richtung weiter, bis die Unendlicheinstellung stimmt.
Vergessen Sie nicht, bei ieder Oberprufung die Rdndelkappe
wieder
ganz aufzuschrauben.
Das ist wichtig,
da die Rdndelkappe als Anschlag fUr die Justier·
schraube dient. Beachten Sie auch, daB die Justierschraube nichl
vollig herausgedreht wird. Sie sleht unter dem Druck einer Feder,
damit sich die Justierung nicht selbst verstellen kann.

The new Novoflex Follow Focus lenses permit split-second inter-
changeability of lens heads and camera adapters. A bayonet lock
guarantees safe
and easy connection of the individual parts,
and
wear is practically non-existent even after constant use.
The Novoflex Follow Focus lens and its System
The basic unit is the follow focus grip; by means of a bayonet
at the front, you can connect and interchangeably use the follow-
ing focal lengths: 5.6/ 280, 5.6 / 400, and 8/ 600 mm. A second bayonet
at the rear accepts ar::apter rings or the bellows extension "U",
which enable you to use the cameras listed on Page 7.
Illustration No.1 shows the components of the Novoflex Follow
Focus Lens System for the 35 mm camera, with 24 x 36 mm format.

The Noflexar 5.6 / 500 mm is used with the Novoflex Follow Focus
Grip 6 x 6. The rear mount is permanently affixed preventing 6 x 6
camera interchangeability. A special adapter for the Novoflex
Follow Focus Grip 6 x 6 will permit use with 35 mm cameras.
Camera fitting for 24 x 36
The Novoflex Follow Focus Lens, with the appropriate adapter
ring, is mounted into the camera like an ordinary lens. Proper
adapter ring for your camera can be determined from the follow-
ing table:

Close-up Setting with special Bellows Extension units

Though Novoflex Follow Focus Lenses ore used mostly for tele-
photography, you will find it useful to be able to set for close-
ups. This can be done in a very simple manner by installing an
inverted Bellows Extension
"u" (see illustration 3) in place of an
adapter ring ((OBA, EXBA, etc.)

Camera Fitting for Motion Picture Cameras
For use of the Novoflex Follow Focus lens with mot i on picture
cameras Bolex H-16 Rx, Beaulieu and Pathe Webo, a cradle should
be used (PIBOLEX for Bolex H-16 Reflex, PIBEA for Beaulieu and
PIWEBO for Pathe Webo ).
To adapt the 400 mm and 600 mm Nofle x ar, this conn e cting arm
is absolutely necessary .
To
mount the lens, it is necessary to llrst lock the lens turret of the
camera with the available lacking screw supplied by the camera
manufacturer. The adapter ring designed for your camera is then
screwed into the cam era. You now insert the complete Follow
Focus Lens into
the adapter ring and connect came ra and lens
with
the cradle (ill. 4 ). No cradle is required for Arr iflex. After the
extension tub e PITUB -B is conn ected between the pistol-grip and
lens head, the lens is ready for use.
Adjustment of Camera Fitting
The adapter rings are factory adiusted to thread-stop vertically
correct when threaded to camera . Should this not be the case,
(perhaps through forceful turning or on i rregular camera thread) ,
it
is possible to re-odiust as follo ws:
Remove
adapter ring from cam era and lo osen (DO NOT REMOVE)
the 3 screws (ill. 5) . The inner threaded ring is turned left, if camera
was found to tilt too for toward rigbt, by approximately the same
amount as degree of tilt. Tighten the 3 screws, put adapter ring
back on camera, and check position. Should it now tilt toward the
left - the threaded ring has to be turned to the right. This is
repeated until the cam era is in upright position.
Interchanging lenses
As explained earlier, it is possible to change lenses within the
same format - because of the advanced design of the Novoflex
Follow Focus system.

Focus
Grip 24 x 36, have Bayonet lock rings and can simply be

locked into the Follow Focus Grip B. When exchanging the Novoflex
400 mm with the 600 mm lens head, the lens mount (lens cell) ( E)
is unscrewed from the 400 mm lens head is then replaced by
screwing in the 600 mm le ns head.
Taking pictures
For long distance shots, where extraneous light is especially
undesirable, it is recommended you make it a habit to use the
sun s hade .
Using
Novoflex Follow Focus lenses is no different than operating
your camera equipped with any normal lens : You hold the Follow
Focus lens, with camera attached, by the pistol-grip, while the
other hand is ready to depress the camera body shutter release.
Your arms should be
slightly pressed against your body to avoid
camera movement. While loo king through the finder, you com·
press the pistol-grip until the image appears sharp on the ground
glass, then trip the release. Since the focusing movement of
the pistol-grip is parallel to the optical axis, the subject
always "stands" still on the focusing ground glass. The ability la
quickly adjust for sharpness with the pistol-grip is of special
ad v antage far candid shats of moving subjects. By decreasing or
increasing pressure on the pistol-grip, you can spontaneously
follaw every movement of your subject. Yau are always ready
to shoot because your other hand remains on the shutter release.
Your hand
will instinctively regulate proper pressure with a.
minimum amount of practice. Difficult candid tele-shots of moving
subjects become as easy with your No voflex equipment as narmal
shots with any ordinary short focal length lens.
Focusing pressure may Decome TOO firm after extensive use .
Unscrew
front (4) and rear (4a) threaded caps, and put a drop

Follow Focus lens is designed for hand-held shots: Photographs
with the 400 mm Noflexar, with an exposure of '/'00 second, are

probl em; with longer exposur es and using the 600 mm
Nofl ex ar , we recommend the No v ofl ex ch es t or shoulder pod . It
offers part icular security against shaking movement and can

naturally be used with all Navoflex Follow Focus lenses (see
special folder).
A threaded socket (3) which is located on the bottom of the pistol-
grip, fastens the chest and shoulder pod, PISTOCK, to the pistol-
grip . This thread socket (3) should not be used to attach the lens
to a tripod .
For time
exposures, the focusing adjustment of the pistol-grip
can be locked on both sides by the two locking knobs (2). For
tripad shots with the 600 mm and the 400 mm Noflexar, because
of the extremely long focal length, the Novoflex tripod ring
PISTAR is required. This ring is simply pushed on the Novoflex
Follaw Focus lens (see ill.
6). It can also be used with the Novoflex
400 mm Follow Focus lens.
Adjusting to infinity
Novoflex Follow Focus lenses are adjusted at the factory, so thaI
with completely depressed pistol-grip, the lens is set at infinity
position. However, since these lenses are used with many cameras
and various adapter rings, it may be necessary to re-adjust for
maximum infinity sharpness. This fine adjustment can be made by
yourself. It does not matter which lens head is used for the infinity
adjustment as all Noflexars are brought to one standard measure-
ment and one focusing adjustment works for all focal lengths.
For fine adjustment, you depress the pistol-grip completely and
aim at a distant subject of more · than 1,500 ft. If this is not
sharp ... remove the knurled cap (4a) exposing the screw which
you turn slightly
to the left if image goes past infinity, or turn
right if infinity
is not reached. Replace the knurled cap and check
the adjustment by aiming at the infinity point. Repeat as neces-
sary . It is important that the knurled cap (4a) be fully tightened
after each adjustment since the adjusting screw makes contact
with the cap when the grip is fully depressed. The adjusting screw
is under spring tension in order to maintain permanent location;
never unscrew it completely. The multitude of possible lens com-
binations does not permit focusing calibrations. The following
chart gives average values:
