1.0 Introduction
The Nuaire Short Cased Axial Fan range is produced
in a range of sizes from 250mm to 1600mm diameter.
Cases are manufactured from var ous mater als such
as pre-galvan sed steel, sta nless steel or hot d pped
galvan sed steel. Impellers are selected to meet the spec f c
performance and are ava lable n a var ety of mater als to
ensure su tab l ty for the appl cat on.
Un ts are ava lable for s ngle and three phase supply.
2.0 Handling and Storage
The fan impeller is carefully balanced prior to despatch
and great care must be exercised when handling the unit.
Th s w ll ensure that the case s not damaged or d storted,
caus ng the mpeller to foul aga nst the cas ng. The fan
should be stored on a flat surface and the mpeller rotated
at regular ntervals.
3.0 Installation
Installation must be carried out by competent
personnel in accordance with good industry practice,
the appropriate authority and in conformance with all
statutory and governing regulations.
,
Pr or to nstallat on the mpeller should be rotated by hand
to ensure free and smooth rotat on and that no trans t or
handl ng damage has occurred.
General advice
Ensure that mpeller and motor are free from obstruct on
and that all opt onal accessor es such as guards and bell
mouths are securely fastened before commenc ng un t
start up.
When operat ng at low temperatures, ce format on can
occur, and su table prevent on should be adopted to avo d
ce bu ld up.
Motors
In general motors are totally enclosed, protected to IP55
(Dust and low pressure water jets) and have an ntegral
term nal box. Motors may ncorporate dra n holes to allow
any condensat on to escape from the motor cas ng. It is
essential that drain hole plugs positioned at the lowest
point of the motor are removed to allow condensate to
drain out of the motor. For vertical applications an
optional capillary drain plug is advised.
All bear ngs are pre-packed w th grease and sealed for l fe
requ r ng no further lubr cat on.
Connection Details
Electr cal connect ons are made d rectly to the motor
term nal box as standard. Check that the voltage on the fan
rat ng label s su table for your supply. Full load and
start ng currents are also nd cated.
Motors below 4kW are des gned for D rect On L ne start ng
wh lst 4kW and above are su table for D rect On L ne or
Star/Delta start ng.
Start Up Procedure
On start up ensure the mpeller rotat on follows the arrow
nd cator on the fan cas ng. Should the d rect on be
ncorrect on a three phase un t reverse any two of the
supply leads.
S ngle phase rotat onal d rect on s set at the factory and
should not be altered. Equ pment should be run for
approx mately 30 m nutes to ensure correct operatIon.
If any fault occurs the equ pment should be sw tched off
and not re-started unt l the fault has been rect f ed.
Reversing Fans
If the un t s spec f ed as ‘revers ng fan’ care must be taken
when des gn ng the control gear to ensure that enough t me
s allowed for the fan mpeller to come to a standst ll before
sw tch ng to the oppos te rotat on.
Any damages or deviations should be immediately
reported to Nuaire quoting the order/Arc number and
product details, detailed on the product rating label.

4.0 Electrical Installation
Un ts are not suppl ed w th electr cal solators, the r
select on and prov s on s the respons b l ty of the nstaller.
Ensure the electr cal supply s su table for the fan and that
all w r ng, fuse and overload protect on etc s appropr ately
s zed by compar ng w th the rat ng plate.
Electr cal connect on s made d rect to the motor term nal box.
For DOL starting of 4kW and above, 3ph, the final
connection must be in DELTA. If a STAR/DELTA starter
is to be used connect all six motor terminals to the

6.0 Maintenance
Due to the d fferent per ods of operat on from the t me of
nstallat on and vary ng use, no r g d nspect on and
ma ntenance per ods can be recommended. We suggest
therefore that the nspect on, and f necessary clean ng/
bear ng check should be carr ed out at regular ntervals of a
max mum of s x months.
For rout ne nspect on check the t ghtness of all nuts, keys,
grubscrews and endbolts etc. Remove any bu ld up of d rt or
dust w th a soft brush and ensure that the clearance
between the mpeller and fan cas ng has not been
comprom sed.
When using a high pressure jet washer, you must maintain a
minimum of 3 meters from the area being washed, with the
nozzle at 45° angle to the surface. Operate in a slow
sweeping motion so as not to spray too long on one spot.
7.0 Spares
The only components of the fan that could requ re replac ng
are the motor or the fan mpeller.
When order ng spares please quote the ser al number,
Order/Arc number, together w th a full descr pt on of
the part.
8.0 Extended Storage
General advice is as follows:
Fan products des gned for env ronmental vent lat on of
a completed structure must not be used dur ng s te
construct on or the ‘clean-up’ per od. Cement and plaster
dust s extremely abras ve and can advance bear ng wear.
Where fans are to be put n to serv ce for comm ss on ng
they must be protected from the a rborne contam nants
prevalent under construct on s te cond t ons.
Where fans are to be put n to ‘normal’ serv ce n a completed
or part completed bu ld ng the end user, tenant, occup er etc.
must be nformed of the ma ntenance requ rements deta led
n the relevant product nstallat on and
ma ntenance documents.
Where fans are to be stored or bonded for extens ve
per ods e ther n warehouse, under s te cond t ons or
n the nstalled state we make the follow ng add t onal
recommendat ons;
n Motors should be stored at ambient temperatures
between - 16oC and +50oC and at relative humidity
(RH) below 90% RH.
n Turn fan and motor shafts at three monthly intervals
to prevent the brinelling effect on the bearings. Brinelling
is a flattening or settlement of the shaft in the bearing
housing.
For extens ve storage per ods and part cularly where the
motors may be exposed to h gh RH levels, spec al
precaut ons and restart requ rements may be requ red.
For further adv ce contact the Nua re techn cal help l ne
below.
