1.0 Introduct on
MRXBOX95B-WM1 wall mounted un t s des gned to prov de
mechan cal supply and extract vent lat on w th heat recovery
& ncorporates ntegral frost protect on and summer bypass.
T e unit is fitted wit two independent fans. Eac fan as full
speed control for background and boost ventilation rates.
To recover eat from t e extract air t e eat exc anger block
is utilised. T e eat exc anger can recover up to 95% of t e
normally wasted eat.
T e bypass damper opens w en a 230V signal is applied to
t e unit (via a manual switc , supplied). T is opens t e damper
via an actuator. W en t e switc signal is de-activated
t e unit returns to its original state (air t roug t e eat
exc anger).
Outside air supplied t roug t e bypass is still filtered, so t e
air quality is optimal, irrespective of t e bypass setting (Open
or closed).
2.0 Installat on
Installation must be carried out by competent personnel in
accordance wit t e appropriate aut ority and conforming
to all statutory governing regulations. All mains wiring must
be in accordance wit t e current I.E.E. Regulations, or t e
appropriate standards. Ensure t at t e mains supply
(Voltage, Frequency and P ase) complies wit t e rating label.
Please note a clear working space is required around t e
installed unit to allow t e cover to be removed and provide
sufficient access for maintenance suc as filter c ange.
Please allow a minimum of 350mm in front of t e unit.
T e fan must be installed indoors, on a suitable wall away
from direct sources of frost, eat, water spray or moisture
generation. For a vibration-free result t e unit must be
mounted to a solid wall.
The un t s des gned for wall mount ng only v a a patress.
1. One part of t e mounting bracket s ould be offered up to
t e wall, ensuring it’s located orizontally. Mark t e fixing
points t roug t e pre drilled oles in t e bracket and
install wit screws (by ot ers), ensuring t e interlock side
is at t e top, fig. 2.
2. Fix t e remaining part of t e bracket to t e unit using t e
M5 screws ensuring t e interlock side is at t e bottom, fig.3a.
3. Install t e unit on t e wall by ensuring t e bracket on t e
unit interlocks over t e wall mounted bracket (fig. 3b).
Note: Care must be taken to ensure the un t s nstalled true
n all 3 d mens ons. Fa lure to do so may result n overflow
from the nternal condensat on dr p tray.

2.1 Condensate Dra n
1. T e condensate must be disc arged under a water
level in a U-trap drainpipe or an alternative drain met od
w ic acts as an airlock.
2. T is condensate disc arge connection is suitable for 21.5mm
dia. overflow pipe.
Solvent cement s ould be used to make t e joint.
3. If using a U-trap please ensure t e U-trap as been filled to
a suitable level of water to avoid any air locks.
4. If t e condensation pipe is fitted in an un eated space t e
pipe s ould be in insulated to prevent freezing.
Nua re recommend MVHR-DRAIN be used as the pr mary
condensate take-off. (see f gure 5b/7a/7b).
2.2 Extract/ nput areas
T e unit is designed to extract air from all wet rooms
e.g. bat room, kitc en, en-suite, utility room (wit sink).
WC’s do not need to be ventilated if openable windows
are fitted.
Supply air s ould be to all abitable rooms e.g. bedrooms and
lounge. Extract / input grilles s ould be adjustable valve types
(not supplied).
External grilles to ave a minimum free area of 12,250 sq mm.
2.3 Duct ng
Before commencing ducting installation reference s ould be
made to building regulations document “Domestic ventilation
compliance guide”. T is document supports ADF2010 and
details installation, testing and commissioning of all ventilation
systems.
It is recommended t at rigid ducting be used it all times.
Flexible ducting as a very ig resistance and it is impossible
to calculate ow muc resistance will be on a system if used.
If used t e flexible ducting must be kept to a minimum and
s ould always be pulled taut. A maximum of 500mm s ould
be used on eac leg.
To prevent condensation on t e outside of t e outside air inlet
duct and t e air outlet duct from t e MRXBOX95B-WM1, t ese
ducts s ould be insulated.
Ducting must be installed in suc a way t at resistance to
airflow is minimised. Bends s ould be kept to a minimum.
A minimum distance of 200mm between t e appliance and
any bends in ductwork is recommended.
Ideally 125mm diameter or 204 x 60mm rectangular ducting
s ould be used. (Refer to dwelling design drawing, figure 7a
and 7b on page 4 for furt er information).
Ducting joints must be sealed wit silicone type sealant and
s all be adequately and reliably fixed to t e appliance.

deals w th th s ssue and currently states that an a r
ntake must be at a m n mum d stance of 300mm from a
gas bo ler balanced flue.
Installers are adv sed to be aware of the requ rements of
th s standard when nstall ng ‘through the wall’ supply
a r duct ng. S m larly, supply and extract a r gr lles
should be at least 300mm apart.

2.5 A r permeab l ty and nf ltrat on
Is t e uncontrolled exc ange of air between inside and outside
t roug cracks, porosity and ot er unintentional openings in
t e building. ADF2006 gives an allowance for t is in bot multi
and single storey buildings, owever ADF2010 as an
allowance for multi storey only. Additionally ADF2010 only
applies t is allowance for dwellings leaker t an 5 m3/( .m2) at
50Pa. (See below).
2.6 ADF 2006 Vent lat on calculat ons
Cont nuous supply and extract
Step 1: Determine t e w ole building ventilation rate from Table
2. Allow for infiltration by subtracting from t is value:
nfor multi-storey dwellings: 0.04 x gross internal volume of
t e dwelling eated space (m3);
nfor single-storey dwellings: 0.06 x gross internal volume of
t e dwelling eated space (m3).
Step 2: Calculate t e w ole dwelling air extract rate at
maximum operation by summing t e individual room rates for
‘minimum ig rate’ from Table 1.
(For sanitary accommmodation only, as an alternative, t e
purge ventilation provisions given in ADF 2006 can be used
w ere security is not an issue. In t is case ‘minimum ig
extract rate’ for t e sanitary accommodation s ould be omitted
from t e step 2 calculation).
Step 3: T e required airflow rates are as follows:

2.7 ADF 2010 Vent lat on calculat ons
Des gn of MVHR systems
T e MVHR system as been sized for t e winter period.
Additional ventilation may be required during t e warmer
mont s and it as been assumed t at t e provisions for purge
ventilation (e.g. openable windows) could be used.
Step 1: For any design air permeability, determine t e w ole
dwelling ventilation supply rate from Table 2.
As an alternative w ere t e design air permeability is intended
to be leakier t an (>) 5m3/( .m2) 50 Pa, allow for infiltration
for all dwelling types by subtracting from t e w ole dwelling
ventilation supply rate from Table 2; 0.04 x gross internal
volume of t e dwelling eated space (m3).
Step 2: Calculate t e w ole dwelling extract ventilation rate by
summing t e individual room rates for ‘minimum ig rate’ from
Table 1.

7.0 Comm ss on ng
1. For t e required air flow rates please refer to t e design
specification for t e property, follow 2.4, or refer to building
regulations ADF 2006/2010.
2. T e unit is supplied wit independent control for bot normal
and boost airflows. (see fig. 11).
3. Correct commissioning is essential to ensure t e ventilation
air flowrates are met. It also ensures t e unit is not over
ventilating and causing excessive power consumption.
4. Commissioning s ould be carried out in accordance wit
building regulations document “Domestic ventilation
compliance guide”. A calibrated moving vane anemometer
and ood will be required to carry out commissioning.
5. Adjustment valves s ould be locked in place to prevent
furt er adjustment.
6. Once commissioned t e ome owner / tenant s ould be
informed t at t e unit s ould not be adjusted as it will ave
a detrimental effect on t e indoor air quality and could result
in condensation and mould growt . T e label covering t e
control as an ad esive panel w ic s ould be removed post
commissioning to prevent tampering.
7.1 Opt onal summer bypass
T e bypass damper opens w en a 230V signal is applied to t e
unit (via a manual switc , supplied). T is opens t e damper via
an actuator. W en t e switc signal is de-activated t e unit
returns to its original state (air t roug t e eat exc anger).
Outside air supplied t roug t e bypass is still filtered, so t e
air quality is optimal, irrespective of t e bypass setting (Open or
closed).
8.0 Status Ind cat on
T e status of t e unit is indicated by a series of LED’s on t e
front cover. T e varients are listed below.
9.0 Ma ntenance/Clean ng
We recommend t at t e two G3 fiters are inspected after
6 mont s, and replaced every 12 to 18 mont s.
T e filters can be removed from t e unit by removing t e two
filter covers on t e front panel of t e unit. Take old of t e two
circular tabs eit er end of t e filter covers and pull out.
T e filter can now be extracted by pulling t e removal loop on
t e front edge of t e filter. Once t e filters ave been inspected
return or replace t em as necessary.
Inspect t e eat exc anger every 5 years. Generally c eck
for damage and security of components. Refit cover.
10.0 Replacement of Parts
S ould any component need replacing Nuaire keep extensive
stocks for quick delivery. Ensure t at t e unit is electrically
isolated, before carrying out any work.
Note: T e supply cable must be replaced by an electrically
competent person.
W en ordering spare parts, please quote t e serial number
of t e unit and t e ARC number of t e purc ase if possible.
(Th s nformat on w ll be ava lable on the fan label).
11.0 Warranty
T e 5 year warranty starts from t e day of delivery and
includes parts and labour for t e first year and parts only for
t e remaining 4 years. T is warranty is conditional on planned
maintenance being undertaken.

1.0 GENERAL
1.1 T e equipment referred to in t is Declarat on of Incorporat on is supplied by
Nuaire to be assembled into a ventilation system w ic may or may not include
additional components.
T e entire system must be considered for safety purposes and it is t e
responsibility of t e installer to ensure t at all of t e equipment is installed in
compliance wit t e manufacturers recommendations and wit due regard to
current legislation and codes of practice.
2.0 INFORMATION SUPPLIED WITH THE EQUIPMENT
2.1 Eac item of equipment is supplied wit a set of documentation w ic provides
t e information required for t e safe installation and maintenance of t e
equipment. T is may be in t e form of a Data s eet and/or Installation and
Maintenance instruction.
2.2 Eac unit as a rating plate attac ed to its outer casing. T e rating plate
provides essential data relating to t e equipment suc as serial number, unit
code and electrical data. Any furt er data t at may be required will be found
in t e documentation. If any item is unclear or more information is required,
contact Nuaire.
2.3 W ere warning labels or notices are attac ed to t e unit t e instructions given
must be ad ered to.
3.0 TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE
3.1 Care must be taken at all times to prevent damage to t e equipment. Note t at
s ock to t e unit may result in t e balance of t e impeller being affected.
3.2 W en andling t e equipment, care s ould be taken wit corners and edges and
t at t e weig t distribution wit in t e unit is considered. Lifting gear suc as
slings or ropes must be arranged so as not to bear on t e casing.
3.3 Equipment stored on site prior to installation s ould be protected from t e
weat er and steps taken to prevent ingress of contaminants.
4.0 OPERATIONAL LIMITS
4.1 It is important t at t e specified operational limits for t e equipment are
ad ered to e.g. operational air temperature, air borne contaminants and unit
orientation.
4.2 W ere installation accessories are supplied wit t e specified equipment eg.
wall mounting brackets. T ey are to be used to support t e equipment only.
Ot er system components must ave separate provision for support.
4.3 Flanges and connection spigots are provided for t e purpose of joining to
duct work systems. T ey must not be used to support t e ductwork.
4.4 In t e event of RF interference t e fan may c ange speed. T is is normal and will
ave no adverse effect on t e fan. T e speed will return to normal once t e
interference as subsided.
5.0 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to t e particular requirements given for t e individual product, t e
following general requirements s ould be noted.
5.1 W ere access to any part of equipment w ic moves, or can become electr cally
l ve are not prevented by t e equipment panels or by fixed installation detail
(eg ducting), t en guarding to t e appropriate standard must be fitted.
5.2 T e electrical installation of t e equipment must comply wit t e requirements
of t e relevant local electrical safety regulations.
5.3 For EMC all control and sensor cables s ould not be placed wit in 50mm or on
t e same metal cable tray as 230V switc ed live, lig ting or power cables and
any cables not intended for use wit t is product.
6.0 COMMISSIONING REQUIREMENTS
6.1 General pre-commissioning c ecks relevant to safe operation consist of t e
following:
Ensure t at no foreign bodies are present wit in t e fan or casing.
C eck electrical safety. e.g. Insulation and eart ing.
C eck guarding of system.
C eck operation of Isolators/Controls.
C eck fastenings for security.
6.2 Ot er commissioning requirements are given in t e relevant product documentation.
7.0 OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
7.1 Equipment access panels must be in place at all times during operation of t e
unit, and must be secured wit t e original fastenings.
7.2 If failure of t e equipment occurs or is suspected t en it s ould be taken out of
service until a competent person can effect repair or examination. (Note t at
certain ranges of equipment are designed to detect and compensate for fan failure).
8.0 MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
8.1 Specific maintenance requirements are given in t e relevant product documentation.
8.2 It is important t at t e correct tools are used for t e various tasks required.
8.3 If t e access panels are to be removed for any reason t e electrical supply to t e
unit must be isolated.
8.4 A minimum period of two minutes s ould be allowed after electrical disconnection
before access panels are removed. T is will allow t e impeller to come to rest.
NB: Care should st ll be taken however s nce a rflow generated at some
other po nt n the system can cause the mpeller to “w ndm ll” even when
power s not present.
8.5 Care s ould be taken w en removing and storing access panels in windy
conditions.

The Electric Heating and Ventilation Association have developed this guidance and
checklist document in partnership with the Residential Ventilation Association
(a HEVAC association), BRE and EST.
NOTE: This guide and checklist has been superseded for dwellings assessed under
‘The Building Regulations 2010’, specifically SAP 2009 and Approved Documents L and
F. Completion of this document is therefore only required for dwellings assessed by
SAP 2005.

manufacturer installation instructions; it is a generic addition which defines good
practice. Installers are advised to complete this form for each installation and

Introduction
This document is to be used in support of the SAP Appendix Q scheme which provides
tested performance values for MVHR products.
Note that all checklist items must be answered YES in order for the SAP Appendix Q
test figures to be used in ‘As built’ SAP calculations. If any checklist items are answered
NO then SAP default figures must be used. Systems must be designed by a
manufacturer designer and sized correctly to qualify for SAP Appendix Q figures.
SECTION 1: INSTALLATION GUIDANCE
1. Ductwork Installation

Have the ducts been installed with as little air resistance and
leakages as possible (flexible ducts should be avoided)?
Note: Refer to HVCA DW/143 document ‘A Practical Guide to Ductwork Leakage
Testing’ for detailed guidance on air tightness. Rigid plastic ducting is
recommended and flexible duct should only be used in very short lengths and
mainly just to connect the ductwork to the units/diffusers or to overcome particular
obstructions.
If flexible ducting has been used, has it been pulled taut to minimise
system resistance?
Has the number of duct bends been minimised to ensure adequate
air flow and least resistance? Bends should have a minimum radius
at least the same as the diameter of the ducting used?
Refer to Figure 1 if using flexible ducting
Have the fans and ducting placed in unheated voids been insulated
to reduce the possibility of condensation forming (see notes below)?
Note: Ducts should be insulated with the equivalent of at least 25mm of insulating
material with a thermal conductivity of 0.04W/mK. Where a duct rises vertically it
may be necessary to fit a condensation trap in order to prevent backflow of any
moisture in the product. Insulation should be applied to both warm and cold air
ducts. Cold air ducts should be wrapped additionally with a vapour barrier outside
the insulation. Ducts with cold air running in warm environments will condense on
the outside of the duct.
Have recommended duct jointing collars and components been
used to ensure appropriate duct performance (duct runs should be
as air tight as possible)?
Note: All the joints should be sealed correctly either using duct tape or silicon.
