Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier
This hearing device is an electronic wearable instrument
classified as a personal sound amplification products
(PSAPs) intended for the non-hearing impaired individuals
to amplify environmental sounds.
The device is subject to applicable provisions of the
Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act of 1968,
under which FDA regulates electronic products that emit
sonic vibrations, such as sound amplification equipment
described in 21 CFR 1000.15. Manufacturers of PSAPs must
report defects and adverse events and take other measures
described in 21 CFR Part 1003. Manufacturers of PSAPs must
also comply with the requirements to repurchase, repair, or
replace electronic products required under 21 CFR Part 1004.
You should contact the manufacturer or the reseller to
report any defects and adverse events; and to repurchase,
repair and replace.

It is important for you to go thru carefully the user’s manual
before using your Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound
Amplifier. Observe the operating instructions in this user’s
manual when using the device. Please read and take notice
the warning statements. Keep this user’s manual for future
reference.
Introductions
This user’s manual is for the instructions of operating the
Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier.
To get acquainted with the Okara Rechargeable BTE
Personal Sound Amplifier you may want to wear the device
and try listening to the radio or watching television, and
start conversations with others. This will let you adjusting
to the environment and help identify the sounds and voices
surrounding you. When you first start wearing the device
you should concentrate particularly on those sounds and
voices you want to hear, practice with the device to pick up
different sounds and voices. It is important to recognize
your own voice thru using your Okara Rechargeable BTE
Personal Sound Amplifier, that way you will learn how to
keep from speaking loudly while wearing the device.

The Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier
you purchased consists of: one personal sound amplifier
unit, three silicone ear tips, a Dual-charger/Travel Container,
one AC power adapter and a copy of the user’s manual, but
without the 1.5V AAA alkaline battery.

GETTING STARTED:
1. With the plastic container holding in the palm of your left
hand, use the thumb of your right hand pushing the side of
the lid to flip open, see illustrations below.
Note: The container may slip in your hands when excessive
force applied for lifting the lid.

2. Use your thumb and index finger to lift the device casing,
take the device out of the plastic container. Do not pull the
device casing away from the charging dock by holding the
audio wire, as the wire bonded to the connection point is
very delicate, it may cause unrepairable damage. Diagram
below shows the proper way of taking the device out of the
charging dock.
HOW TO TURN ON/OFF AND ADJUSTING VOLUME:
1. Refer to the diagram on page 5, locate the ON/OFF switch
and volume controller. To turn on the device, slide the ON/
OFF switch of the device case to its“ON”position.

2. Simply slide same switch to its“OFF”position to turn the
device off.
3.The volume controller is located above the ON/OFF switch
on the back of the device casing. To adjust sound volume,
turning the knob slowly towards the direction of the
microphone to decrease, vise versa to increase.
4. For best results, try starting with volume on low, gradually
tune to your desired level. Do not set the volume too high,
because high volume may cause excessive feedback and
pose health risk to your hearing.
CHARGING UP THE DEVICE :
Your Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier is
operated by a rechargeable Ni-MH battery that built-in the
device casing. The device is to be charged up by the Dual-
charger/Travel Container. You may charge up the device
by using one AAA alkaline battery. Alternatively, you may
choose to use the AC wall outlet; when connected to the AC
wall outlet but installed with an AAA alkaline battery in the
battery compartment, alternating current will be used. This
is a rechargeable device, there are no needs replacing the Ni-
MH battery with new ones. - 9 -

On the outer-front panel of the Dual-charger/Travel
Container, it has a set of the LED indicator lamps/switch for
monitoring the device while charging, see details in the
diagram below.
CHARGING UP FROM A WALL OUTLET:
1. Before charging make sure the device is turned off.
Please follow Step #2 of HOW TO TURN ON/OFF AND
ADJUSTING VOLUME on the previous page to power off the
device.
2. Place the device onto the charging dock of the
Dual-charger/Travel Container. The device may be installed
with an ear tip on the ear mold while docking, this will help
secure the device to the charging dock.

3. Your device should come with an AC power adapter. To
avoid possible risk of electric shock or damage, connect the
AC power adapter to the socket first, as shown below.
4. Once the AC power adapter is connected to the wall out-
let, the green LED charge indicator lamp on the outer-front
panel of the Dual-charger/Travel Container will blink three
times indicates the device is ready for charging.
5. In two seconds same green LED lamp will start blinking
indicates the device is being charged. If not, check electric
connection to the wall outlet is correct and ensure the
device is switched to its“OFF”position, then start over. After
an hour or so the green LED lamp will continue lit without
blinking till the device is charged up.

6. Close the lid of the Dual-charger/Travel Container to let
the device get charged up without interruption.
7. The green LED charge indicator lamp on the outer-front
panel of the Dual-charger/Travel Container will stop blinking
and will stay light until the AC power adapter is unplugged
from the wall outlet.
To fully charge up the device may take 8 hours to complete.
Each charge should provide twelve continuous hours of use
before the next recharge is needed. When not using your
Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier turn off
the device, this will help save battery.
CHARGING UP BY A 1.5V AAA BATTERY:
1. Before charging the device by the 1.5V AAA battery
make sure the device is turned off. Follow Step#2 of Page#9
this manual to power off the device. Disconnect from the
wall outlet if the device is plugged into it. Remove from the
charging dock of the Dual-charger/Travel Container if the
device is docked.

2. Locate the battery compartment of the device, slide open
the compartment door, follow battery polarity to install an
AAA alkaline battery into it. The green LED charge indicator
lamp on the outer-front panel of the Dual-charger/Travel
Container will blink 3 times indicates the device is ready for
charging. If not,you have a“dead”battery required to replace.
3. Test the battery you have just installed by pressing the
AAA Battery Indicator switch on outer-front panel of the
Dual-charger/Travel Container. If the battery is at its full
capacity the AAA Battery Indicator lamp will light in green,
otherwise, in red indicates you have a“low”battery should
be replaced with new ones. - 13 -

5. When done, slide close the compartment door.
6. Place the device to the charging dock of the
Dual-charger/Travel Container to begin charge, as illustrated
the diagram below. Be sure an ear tip is installed with the
device to help secure the device to the charging dock.
7. In two seconds the green LED charge indicator lamp on
the outer-front panel of the Dual-charger/Travel Container
will start blinking indicates the device is being charged. If
not, check the device is switched to its“OFF” position, then
start over. After an hour or so the green LED lamp should
continue lit without blinking till the device is charged up.

8. Close the lid of the Dual-charger/Travel Container to let
the device get charged up without interruption.
9. The green LED charge indicator lamp on the outer-front
panel of the Dual-charger/Travel Container will stop
blinking and will stay light until the device is removed from
the charging port.
To fully charge up the device may take 8 hours to complete.
Each charge should provide twelve continuous hours of
use before the next charge is needed. When not using your
Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier turn off
the device, this will help save battery.
INSTALLING SILICONE EAR TIP :
1.The Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier
you have comes with three “angled”silicone ear tips each
has its different head diameter to accommodate different
size of ear canal. Using ear tip of the original manufacturer
will ensure your Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound
Amplifier the quality sounds.

INSTALLING SILICONE EAR TIP (cont’d):
2.To effectively use the device, an ear tip should be installed
to the ear mold. Adjusting the ear mold will help fit the ear
tip snugly to your ear canal, and ensure it states securely in
your ear. Repeat same process with different size of the ear
tips until the desired fit is achieved. See diagram below.
WEARING THE DEVICE:
The Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier
is designed for wearing in either ear. Adjusting the device
casing together with the flex“audio wire”can let the device
rest comfortably on and behind your ear to freely amplify
multiple environmental sounds.

WEARING THE DEVICE (cont’d):
1.Wearing the Okara Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound
Amplifier in your LEFT ear, hold securely the device casing
between the thumb, index and middle fingers of your LEFT
hand, use the thumb and index finger of your RIGHT hand to
fit and adjust the ear mold into your LEFT ear. Wiggling the
ear mold a bit will help secure better. See illustrations below
for proper fitting.
2. Follow the same procedures stated above for wearing the
device in your RIGHT ear. You may want to use your RIGHT
hand to hold the device and your LEFT hand to fit and adjust
the ear mold in your RIGHT ear.

The diagram below shows a properly worn Okara
Rechargeable BTE Personal Sound Amplifier in the left ear.
IN CASE OF FEEDBACK OCCURRED:
Feedback is created by the noise produced from the device
speaker travelling to the back of the amplifier unit . To
remove feedback, you should fit the device properly into
your ear by adjusting its ear tip to leave no gaps for feedback
travelling between your ear and the device. Try changing
to the ear tip that can provide you comfort fit for hearing
better. Correctly setting sound volume appropriate to your
hearing requirement is primary important for eliminating
