1. INTRODUCTION
Please read this instruction manual First before starting using this product.
The SMART-20 model incubator has been developed to be easy in use and to give the best
incubation results. The transparent PVC lid allows you to take a good look inside of the
device. A proportional band thermostat with a decimal sensor assures an automatic regulation
and constant keeping of the temperature inside of the machine. The warmth is dispersed by a
silicone heating cable and can easily be measured precisely by a thermometer in degrees
Fahrenheit. The SMART-20 incubator is completely made of synthetic material, wears
therefore less and is easily to be cleaned.
2. DESCRIPTION
1 - Analogical thermostat in proport.band
2 - Trimmer for calibration
3 - Mercury thermometer (°F)
4 - Egg turning wire tray
5 - Bottom wire net
6 - Ventilation holes
7 - Heating and ventilation parts
8 - Manual egg turning rod
3. UNPACKING
Take the incubator and the inside component, which are anchored with adhesive tape, out of
the box.
The packing should contain the following:
-1 Instructions manual
-1 Thermometer
-1 Egg wire tray
-1 Egg turning grid
-1 Automatic egg turner (if the machine is equipped)
The incubator has a cable of approximately 1,5m length and is suitable for AC power with
220V/230V, 50-60 Hz.
This information can also be found on a label on the backside of the incubator.
ATTENTION: check the mercury thermometer for cracks and correct working.
4. USAGE
Place the incubator on a even, horizontal surface in a dry, well ventilated room with a constant
temperature of - C.
Make sure the incubator is placed near to a suitable, earthed socket.
Fasten the thermometer with the plastic clip above the egg turning wire tray. Make sure that
the middle of it is aligned with the middle egg row.
Before first usage we advise to clean carefully the whole incubator as described in section 12.

3
5. TEMPERATURE SETTING AND CALIBRATION
In the upper part of the incubator there is an electronic thermostat mounted. When you connect
the incubator to the main power the two LED indicators on the upper part of the case will
lighten up.
The green light indicates that the incubator is on. The red light indicates that the heating is on.
As soon as the good temperature has been reached, the red light will start to blink slowly. The
heating element is being automatically pulsed, switched on and off, to keep the temperature
steady.
We advise to keep an eye on the analogue thermometer: this has to indicate precisely the
temperature of 100°F(37.7°C). In case that the thermometer does NOT indicate the correct
temperature, you have to adjust the temperature settings of the thermostat as follows:
-Adjust the temperature by turning the temperature screw with a screw driver. Turn the
screw to the right side accordingly if you want to increase or reduce the temperature.
TIP: if a power loss or a power cut occurs during the incubation period, you can keep the
temperature steady by laying a hot water jug into the incubator and by opening the ventilator
wholes totally.
6. HUMIDITY &VENTILATION
It is important to know that there are no fixed rules for getting the right relative humidity in
incubators, because it depends on several different factors:
The air humidity in the room where the incubator is placed
The egg species (chicken, turkey, etc.)
The porosity of the egg shell
The season
A good way to check if the relative humidity in the incubator is good is weighing the eggs on
a regular basis. An egg should lose 13-15% of its initial weight during the incubation period.
You can also candle the eggs. The air chamber should then be, on the moment of hatching,
approximately 1/3 of the whole egg.

To ensure the right humidity level in the incubator, fill only 2 reservoir of the base with a layer
water of 1-2cm height. Refill only when the base is empty again.
During the hatching period fill all 4 reservoirs of the base with water to obtain maximum
humidity.
Based on the experience with your first incubation in the Smart 20, you may (in case of doubt)
increase or reduce the humidity level during the subsequent incubation.
It is better to add less water than too much during the incubation period. A too high
humidity level may cause greater losses of eggs.
To ensure that eggs are ventilated well and continuously in the incubator, we recommend to
switch the eggs of place amongst themselves on a regular basis.

7. PLACING EGGS
For better results we recommend to collect fresh laid eggs every day to avoid they get
damaged.
Very dirty eggs can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth.
After collecting, cleaning and placing of the eggs into the incubator, we advise to wash your
hands thoroughly.
In case you mark the eggs use a pencil and not a marker as it may contain toxic substances that
may penetrate the egg through its shell.
Before you place the eggs into the incubator, verify that it has reached the correct temperature
(100°F / 37.7°C)). Lay the eggs carefully in the egg tray.
Don’t use eggs that are younger than 3 and older than 7-8 days. Keep eggs at a
temperature of 14 –16°C in a humid environment.

8. EGG TURNING
The automatic egg turning system ensures that the eggs are being turned with a slow
horizontal motion of the turning grid over the egg grid. Place the turning engine and cover it
with the appurtenant case lid. Plug the power supply of the turning engine in a socket and look
if it starts turning. The movement that the turning system makes is 360°/1RPM per hour.
period. Just remove the plug from the socket.
ATTENTION: the turning engine is under tension. If you ever want to inspect it, please
don’t forget to unplug it from the main power.
If egg turning is done manually, turn the eggs twice a day (on the morning and in the evening)
by using the turning rod.
9. HATCHING
As soon as the hatching period has expired (max.2 days), you can leave the young chicks for
one more day in the incubator to dry. After this you can move the younglings to another
breeding facility or place them under a heat lamp. Make sure that the temperature is C
during the first week.

5
10. EGG CANDLING
Bad breeding results are frustrating and may be caused by several different factors. The most
common causes are illustrated below.
Gather for this purpose as much information as you can about the incubation in order to be
able to analyze the problem thoroughly. Register all relevant information regarding the placing
of the eggs, de incubator settings, the hatching dates, the weight losses, the number of
younglings and their condition.
After 8-10 days from the start of the incubation period it is advisable to candle the eggs in
order to be able to remove the unfertilized eggs. Candling should be done preferably in a dark
room. You can get good candling lamps at your suppli
1) Clear when candled - probably infertile (or very early death)
when candled at 8 days
2) Fertile with red blood vessels - after 8 days
3) Red or black staining - early death when candled at 8 days
- early death when candled at 8 days
5) Dark outline with ill defined detail - late death (10-16 days)
6) Live embryo with bill in air sack - due to hatch in 24-48 hours
7) Normal development of the air pocket according to number of days
11. MAINTENANCE
To ensure a good functioning of this machine, please take the following into account:

12. CLEANING
To ensure that your device is hygienically clean, we advice to clean it before as well as after
every breeding.
To do so, you may use a soft damp cloth and a bland disinfectant like alcohol.
Make sure that also the bottom of the base of the incubator is cleaned properly. For this
purpose you may use a common all purpose cleaner.
NEVER USE AGRESSIVE CLEANSERS OR SOLVENTS.
Make sure that the main power supply is unplugged before starting with cleaning the
incubator.
After cleaning/disinfecting switch the incubator on and let it work for at least 2 hours without
adding water in order to let it dry. Remains of water or disinfectant solution will evaporate and
in this way you will also be able to verify if your incubator is working properly.
