360°IPcamerabasics
OncamGlobal’sIPseriescamerasarebasedonaninnovativetechnologythatusesafisheyelenstocreatea360°view
withanextremelylargeareaofcoverage.Withproperplacement,theOncam360°IPcameracanreplacetwoormore
conventionalfixedcamerasforseamlesscoverageofanentirescenewithnogapsorblindspots.Theabilityto‘see’inall
directionsatoncemakesOncam360°IPcamerasideallysuitedfortotalsituationalawareness.
The5‐megapixelsensorproducesenoughdetailtoallowdigitalpan/tilt/zoom(PTZ)operationsovertheentirefieldof
view.ButunlikeconventionalPTZcameras,Oncam360°IPcamerasaresilent.Therearenomechanicalmotorsandgears
whicharepronetowearandeventualfailure.Thecameraproducesthreetypesofviews,eachsuitedtoaparticularset
ofrequirements.
Fisheyeview
Thehighqualityfisheyelensproducesasphericalimagefromwhichallotherviewsarederived.Therawimageappears
warpedaroundacentralaxis.Specialdewarpingsoftwareisbuiltintothecameratoconvertthesphericalimageintoa
viewwhichismorefamiliartohumanviewers.Whenusingvideomanagementsoftware(VMS)torecordafisheyevideo
stream,theentireimageispreserved,allowingyoutolookatalldirections,regardlessoftheareabeingviewedwhen
theincidentoccurred.
VirtualPTZcameras(VCam)
Whenyouzoomintoafisheyeimage,thecamerabecomesavirtualPTZ,whichcanbemovedthroughouttheentire360°
scene.Infact,therearefour(4)VCamsavailablefromthecamera,soyoucanmonitordifferentareasinthescene
simultaneously,eachwithindependentPTZ,imagecontrols,andmotion‐detectionsettings.MultipleVCamresolutions
areavailable.Acompositeviewshowingall4VCamsatonceisalsoavailable.
Panoramaviews
Thepanoramaviewmapstheentire360°imageontoalong,widestripthatspreadsthesceneoutformorenatural
viewing.Thereisalsoamodethatcreatestwo180°panoramas,whichrepresentthetopandbottom(wallmount)or
forwardandrear(ceilingortablemount)viewsofthecamera.Panningthroughapanoramaissimilartorotatingyour
entirebodytocenteronadifferentpartoftheview.
Multi‐streaming/Multi‐user
AllOncamcamerasarecapableofsupplyingupto20videostreamsofdifferentformatsandresolutionsatthesame
time.Thisallowsmultipleuserstosimultaneouslyaccessthecamera,andcanbeusedbyVMSsoftwaretodisplaymore
thanonevideostreamatatime.
WhatisIPZoom?
TheOncamIPZoom360°cameraisabletosynchroniseviewswithaco‐locatedIPPTZcameraviaacomputerwith
IPZoomsoftware.SimplyclickanywhereinthepanoramaorfisheyeviewfromtheIPZoom360°camera,andthe
associatedIPPTZcamerawilljumptothatlocationforaclose‐upview.Availableintwomodels,theconceal‐mounting
modelisforindooruse,andtheIP67‐ratedminidomemodelcanbeusedforeitheroutdoororindoorapplications.

Ceiling,table,orwallmounted?
Ifyourgoalistoprovidecomprehensivecoverageofaverywidearea,thenlookforamountingpositionwithan
unobstructedview.Ceilingmountingispreferredifmostoftheactionisoccurringbelowyouonahorizontalplane.A
goodexampleisanindoorshoppingmallorhotellobby.
Smalltomid‐sizedroomscanbeveryeffectivelycoveredwithasinglecameraplacedinthemiddleoftheceiling.Use
oneormoreVCamviewstomonitordoorways,customerservicecounters,orotherareasofspecialinterest.Atop‐of‐
headshotiscapturedwhensomeonestandsdirectlybelowthecamera,butmuchmoreoftheirfaceandbodywill
becomevisibleastheymoveawayinanydirection.
Ifyouwanttogetclosertoasubjecttoseeundertheirhatsandhair,thenawall‐mountedpositionisbest.Wall
mountingsbelow1.8metres(6feet)canbeobstructedbypeoplewalkingbyand,ifthecameraismountedtoohigh,the
upperportionoftheviewiswasted.
Verticallyorientedscenes,suchasescalatorsandcityscapes,areverywellsuitedtowallmounting.Theidealshotwillbe
foundsomewherenearthemiddleheightandfarenoughawayfromtheobjecttogetafullview.Thispositionplacesan
equalamountoftheviewaboveandbelowthemid‐line.
Transportationapplicationsshoulduseawall‐mountconfigurationforviewsoutsideofthevehicle.Ceilingmountingis
oftennotpracticalbecauseitisdifficulttogetthecamerahighenoughabovetheground.Forviewsinsidethevehicle,a
ceiling‐mountedcameraisquiteacceptable.
Tablemountingisamodeforupward‐pointingplacementsandiswellsuitedtoconferencerooms,whereacentrally
mountedcameracanviewallparticipantsseatedaroundatable.

licenseplatereadingislimitedtoclose‐upviews,howeverthereisaverybroadsectionoftheviewwheredetectionand
identificationcanoccur.

Ceiling‐mountedcameraswillcaptureatop‐of‐headshotwhenthepersonunderthecamera.Hatswillextendthattop‐
of‐headzonebyafewfeet.Toensureafull‐faceshotinagivenarea,usethechartbelowtoestimatewheretheface
zoneisrelativetotheheightofthecamera.
Forexample,inthepicturebelowaneight‐footceiling‐mountedcamerashouldbelocated1.5metres(5feet)behindthe
counter.Ifthisamountofspaceisnotavailable,considerwallmountingthecamerainstead.
Theusablehorizonisdeterminedbycameraheightandanyobstructionsthatgetintheway.Forexample,youcannot
seeanythinghigherthanaceiling‐mountedcamera,andbuildingsandlandmarksmaygetintheway.However,the
horizoncanbeseveralmetresawayforahigh‐mountedcamerawithnoobstructions.ThismakestheOncamIP360°
camerasanidealchoiceforurbanstreetsurveillanceandtrafficmonitoring.

Lightingrecommendations
Autosensoradjustmentworksbestfornearlyallenvironments.Thecameracontinuouslyadjuststheexposureto
optimisetheimage.Nightmodedropstheframerateinhalfanddoublestheexposuretime.Theimageisrenderedin
blackandwhiteforbettercontrast.Motion‐sensinglightsmaybeusedtoilluminatethescene:Automodewillquickly
adjustwhenlightsturnon.
Indoortips:
Olderfluorescentlightsintroduceaflickerthatcausesrollbarstoappearinthevideo.Toeliminatethiseffect,selectthe
NoFlickeroptionfromtheimagecontrols.Ifyoudonotseearollbar,donotenablethisfeature.
Minimalemergencylightingisusuallysufficientfornighttimeshots,butmotionblurmayoccurunderverylowlight
conditions.TheNoMotionBlursettingrestrictsthemaximumexposuretimeto1/20thofasecond.Iftheimageisgrainy,
usetheDenoisesettinginimagecontrolstosoftenthegrainyeffect.
Outdoortips:
InAutomode,thecamerasensorwillautomaticallyadjusttochanginglightconditions.Thecameraaveragestheamount
oflightavailableandsetstheshutterspeedaccordingly.Ideally,thecamerashouldbeprotectedfromdirectsunlightto
avoidoversaturationandlensflares.Low‐anglesunlightmaybeaproblemduringpartofthedaysoitispreferableto
mountundereavesorfacingnorthifpossible.
Inareasofhighcontrastorstippledsunlightitmaybenecessarytoexcludeaverybrightspotfromtheexposure
calculation.Createanexposure‐exclusionregiontoeliminateabright,sunnyarea.Fornighttime,typicalparkinglot
lightingisusuallysufficient.

AllOncam360°IPcamerascanbeeitherwallmountedorceiling/tablemounted.Thesecamerashaveanexceptionally
wideviewingangle,sosomeconsiderationshouldbegiventocameralocation.Forexample,ifonesideofasceneis
brightlylitandanotherisindarkshadows,youmayhavetochoosewhichportionofthepicturetooptimise.Hereare
somegeneraltipsforcameraplacement:
Indoorplacements:
Ceilingmounted:Camerasshouldbehighenoughtogetanoverviewoftheroom,butnotsohighastobeaway
fromtheaction.Aheightof2.7to4.6metres(9to15feet)abovethegroundisidealformostcommercial
buildings.Gohigherforlargeauditoriums,lobbiesandmalls.
Wallmounted:Camerasshouldbelowenoughtofilltheimage,butnotsolowastobeobstructed.Trytoavoid
capturingtoomuchceilinginyourshot.
Outdoorplacements:
Ceilingorpendantmounted:Thehigheryoucanmountthecamera,themoreareaitwillcover.Watchoutfor

fourscrewsholdingthebrackettothe
camera.
Removethecamerabracketandstore
thecamerawiththescrewsinasafe
place.
Ifwallmountingthecamera,usea
leveltomarkahorizontalline.
Usethecamerabracketasatemplate
tomarkthedrillingholes.
Drillholesappropriately‐sizedforthe
suppliedwallplugsandmounting
screws.
Tofurthertamper‐proofthecamera,
cablingcanbeconcealedinachannel
orholepassedthroughawallor
ceiling.
Thecorrectpositionfortheconcealed
cablingtoemergefromthewallis
approximately85mm(3.25”)fromthe
bracket.
Followstandardinstallation
proceduresforcablingthroughasolid
surface.
Passthecablethroughthehole.
Fitthecameraintotherearcoverand
