1. Introduction
This document contains very important information about the safe operation of your
Option GlobeSurfer. We recommend you read this entire document before using the
product.
Ignoring these guidelines may be dangerous or illegal.
1.1 Your GlobeSurfer is using the same type of technology as mobile
phones
Your GlobeSurfer uses the same technology as a mobile phone. It is important that you
always obey all safety regulations related to mobile phone use. If you have any doubt
about the safe operation of your GlobeSurfer you should power off the GlobeSurfer and
seek advice from authorized personnel.
2. Safety Measures
Please read the following guidelines carefully. Not following these guidelines can cause
harm to the card, yourself or other persons.
This Class B digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003.

2.1 General recommendations for use
Always treat your product with care and keep in a clean and dust-free place. Do not
expose your product to open flames or lit tobacco products.
Do not expose to liquid, moisture or humidity. Do not expose the GlobeSurfer to rain,
or other liquids.
Do not drop, throw or try to bend your product.
Do not paint your product.
Do not attempt to disassemble your product. Doing so may be dangerous and it will
void the warranty.
Do not touch the antenna unnecessarily.
•The GlobeSurfer is intended for use only when powered by external power supply
shipped together with equipment or other available from Option. The use of any other
power supplies may invalidate regulatory approval of this product. For servicing, contact
your vendor or OPTION for a suitable power supply!

•Do not connect the POTS (phone) line to telecommunication network socket outlets! The
equipment could be damaged! There is a risk of electrical shock!
•Use the GlobeSurfer II only indoor and in dry location. Do not use this product near water
for example, near a bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub, in a wet basement,
or near a swimming pool, and the like. Refer to table for each interconnection point found
in this user instruction.
•This device is suitable for use on TN power systems and IT-power systems connection
(max 230V phase-phase). If you are not sure of the type of power system to your home,
consult your appliance dealer or local power company.
•Do not install this product in direct sunlight. Slots and openings in the enclosure are
provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the device and to protect it
from overheating these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should
never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This
product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This product
should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper
ventilation is provided or the manufacturer's instructions have been followed.
•Unplug the product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or
aerosol cleaners. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning.
CAUTION! There is risk of fire and electrical shock!
•If the damage done on the device requires service, unplug this product from the wall
outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
• When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.
• If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
• If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
• If the product does not operate normally by following the
operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are
covered by the operating instructions as an improper adjustment
of other controls may result in damage and will often require
extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to
its normal operation.
• If the product has been dropped or the enclosure has been
damaged.
• When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance –
this indicates a need for service.
•This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and with RSS-210 of
Industry Canada.
•Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and
(2) this device must accept any interference received, including
interference that may cause undesired operation.
•Changes or modifications made to this equipment not expressly approved
by Option NV may void the FCC authorization to operate this equipment.

•This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a
Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits
are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio
communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not
occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful
interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by
turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct
the interference by one or more of the following measures:
(1) Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
(2) Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
(3) Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that
to which the receiver is connected.
(4) Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
FCC Radiation Exposure Statement:
This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an
uncontrolled environment. This equipment should be installed and operated with
minimum distance of 20cm between the radiator and your body.
This transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other
antenna or transmitter.
2.2 Ambient temperatures
Do not expose the GlobeSurfer or the antenna to ambient temperatures beyond the range
of -25 and +50 degrees Celsius.
2.3 Explosive atmosphere
Do not operate your GlobeSurfer in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It
is rare, but a radio frequency device could generate sparks, which could cause an
explosion or fire. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are not always clearly
marked. They include fuelling areas (petrol filling stations), below deck on boats, fuel or
chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas where the air contains chemicals or
particles, such as grain, dust, or metal powders.
2.4 Blasting areas – construction sites
Turn off your GlobeSurfer when in a blasting area in order to avoid interfering with two-
way radios used in blasting operations.

2.5 Do not use on aircraft
Using a wireless devices on aircraft can cause interference and is illegal.
Do not use it when the plane is on the ground without permission from the aircraft crew.
2.6 Do not use in hospitals
Please ensure you follow any local regulations or rules. People are often asked to switch
off all electronic devices in some areas of a hospital; this is a recommendation that
Option fully supports. Using a GlobeSurfer close to sensitive electronic devices could
possibly result in interference.
2.7 Immunity to interference
Electromagnetic interference is the disturbance of the normal operation of a device due to
its undesired response to radio signals from an external source. Occasionally in some
situations you may hear short sounds coming from audio equipment such as radio or
multimedia PC. However, these audible signals do not interfere with the operation of the
equipment.
The 1989 Directive from the European Commission (89/336/ECC)13 governing all forms
of electronic equipment concerns interference that such equipment produces and its
immunity to interference from outside. Any equipment compliant with that directive is
unlikely to suffer interference. All wireless devices may get interference, which could
affect performance.
2.8 Cardiac pacemakers, implanted defibrillators & other medical
implant devices
It is possible that GlobeSurfer may interfere with some types of pacemakers or implanted
defibrillators when operated close to the implanted device. You should seek advice from
your doctor that is specific to the implant before using the GlobeSurfer. Health authorities
in many countries have set up advisory services for medical devices and implants
including providing advice about maintaining separation distance between radio
frequency equipment and the implant. Option operating companies reflect the advice
given by their relevant health authority or national advisory service and/or as a minimum
indicate a separation distance of at least 20cm between radio frequency terminal
equipment and the embedded device.
2.9 Hearing devices
People with hearing aids or other cochlear implants may experience interfering noises
when using mobile devices or when one is nearby. The level of interference will depend
on the type of hearing device and the distance between the GlobeSurfer and the hearing
device. Increasing the distance between the GlobeSurfer and hearing device may reduce
interference.
2.10 Children
Do not allow children to play with your GlobeSurfer. They could hurt themselves or
others, or could accidentally damage the GlobeSurfer. Your GlobeSurfer contains small

parts with sharp edges that may cause an injury or which could become detached and
create a choking hazard.
2.11 Accessories
Only use Option approved accessories. Do not connect with incompatible products.
When used with accessories such as external antennas Option can only guarantee safe
and correct operation of our products if the accessories are tested and approved by us.
To comply with international safety requirements; when using an Option approved
external antenna you must ensure that it is kept from the body at a distance greater than
20 cm.

SELV interconnections must only be connected to other equipment that complies
with requirements of SELV-circuits as defined in EN60950-1:2001 directive.
TNV2 interconnections must only be connected to other equipment that complies
with requirements of TNV2-circuits as defined in EN60950-1:2001 directive.
