INTRODUCTION
Thank you forselecting theOregon Scientific™TP329 asyourproduct
ofchoice.Thisproductisaportable,easy-to-usetwo-wayradiotransceiver.
Youcanuseit tocontactyourfamilyand friendsatshopping malls,amusement
parks,orevensportsevents!
Thetransceiverhas8channelsand 38 CTCSS (ContinuousToneCoded
SquelchSystem)codes.If someoneelseisusing thesamechannelasyours,
and you do notwanttohearthatperson,you canselectanotherchannelor
usetheCTCSS feature.You cantalkwithaperson who hasthesame
transceiverifbotharetunedtothesamechanneland/orCTCSS code.

Connectoptionalmicrophones,speakers,orearphonesintothisjack.

IfNi-MHrechargeablebatteriesareinstalled,resttheunit on the
optional2-bayCradleChargertorecharge.

Pleaseobservethefollowing safetyprecautionswhensetting up and using
thisproduct.
·LCDpanel–TheLCDpanelismadeofglass,and maybreakiftheunit
isdroppedorimpacted.
·Heatsources–Keeptheproductawayfromheatsourcessuchas
radiators,stoves,heaters,and otherheat-generating products.
·Waterand moisture–Donotusetheproductinornearwaterorin
high moistureareassuchasabathroom.
Caringforthisproduct
Toensureyou receivethemaximumbenefit fromusing thisproduct,please
observethefollowing guidelines.
·Cleaning –Useadampcloth.Donotuseliquidcleaning agents,ben
zene,thinner,oraerosols.
·Repair–Donotattempttorepairtheproductormodifythecircuitry
by yourself.Dangerouslyhigh voltagesarecontainedinsidetheunit.
Contacttheretaileroraqualifiedrepairmaniftheproductrequires
servicing.Onlyusereplacementpartsthatarerecommendedby the
manufacturer.
·DonotscratchhardobjectsagainsttheLCDdisplayasthismaycause
damage.
Caution
·Toavoidriskoffireorinjury,do notattempttochargenon-recharge
ablebatteries.
·Replace onlybatterieswiththesameorequivalenttyperecommended
by themanufacturer.
·Pleasedisposeofold,defectivebatteriesinanenvironmentallyfriendly
mannerinaccordance withtherelevantlegislation.
·Nonakedflames,suchaslightedcandles,shouldbeplacednearthe
apparatus.
BASICFUNCTIONS
OperatingtheTransceiver
1.Tostartusing yourradio,insertthree AAAbatteriesorNi-MHre
chargeablebatteries(previouslycharged)intothebattery
compartment,noting thepolarities
2.Press PowerOn/Off button toturnon theradio.Adjustthevolumeto
adesiredlevel.
3.Selectachanneland /orCTCSS code.
4.Press and holddownthePTT (Push-To-Talk)button and speakinto
theMICtotransmit.Theicon will thenappear.Whenyou have
finishedyourtransmission,releasethePTT button.
5.Thetransceiverwill automaticallyplayreceivedtransmissionsifthe
PTT button isnotheld.
NOTE:You canonlycommunicatewithanotherradiothatisusing thesame
channeland/orthesameCTCSS codeasyourradio.
Call Function
You cansend aringersound toall radiostunedtothesamechanneland/or
theCTCSS codeasyourradio.Tosend acall,quicklypress PTT keytwice.
UsingtheKeyLock
You canlockthebuttonson thetransceivertoavoidaccidentallyenabling
thedevice.Press and holdthePOWERand MENU buttonstoenableor
disabletheKeyLock.
Auto-SquelchFunction
YourPMRtransceiverhasanAuto-Squelchfunction,whichmeansyou will
nothearanything on achannelunless someoneistransmitting nearby on the
samechannel.You canturnoff theAuto-Squelchtohearweaker,distant
transmissionsby pressing and holding MENU for2seconds.Theenablethe
function again,press and holdMENU for2seconds.

NOTE:Whenyou arefinishedconfiguring thecurrentsetting,press MENU

quit theMenu Options,press PTT.
SelectingaChannel
Selectbetweenthe8channelsofthetransceivertousetocommunicatewith
others.Totransmit,thetransmitterand thereceivermustbeon thesame
channel.
Scanning
Whenyou areselecting achannel,you canalsoactivatethechannelscan
function by pressing and holding or.will beshownon the
display.If avalidsignalispresent,thetransceiverwill pauseon thecurrent
activechannel.Press abutton tosetthisasyourchannel.Otherwise,thescan
modewill thenimmediatelysearchforthenextchannelifno button ispressed
after5seconds.During scan,pressing PTT orMENU keywillstop thescan
modeand exit themenu.Or,pressing MENU keywill stop scanning and go
tothenextsetting.
SelectingaCTCSS code
TheCTCSS islikehaving asub-channelwithinachannel,giving you greater
communication flexibility.Itletsyou talkand listentoothertransmittersset
toBOTHthesamechanneland CTCSS code.Thereare38 CTCSS codesto
choosefrom(see Appendix).
ScanningtheCTCSS
You canalsoactivatetheCTCSS scanfunction bypressing and holding or
.will beshownon thedisplay.If avalidsignalispresent,the
transceiverwill pauseon thecurrentactiveCTCSS channel.Press abutton
tosetthisasyourCTCSS channel.Otherwise,thescanmodewill thenim-
mediatelysearchforthenextCTCSS channelifno button ispressedafter5
seconds.During scan,pressing PTT orMENU keywill stop thescanmode
and exit themenu.Or,pressing MENU keywill stop scanning and go tothe
nextsetting.
SettingVOX
Thissetting automaticallydetectsand transmitsyourvoice through these-
lectedchannel,withoutneeding topushand holdPTT.Selectbetween3
levelsofVOX by pressing orkey.Theicon isdisplayedwhen
thisfunction isenabled.

Roger BeepMode
IftheRogerBeepmodeisenabled,thereceiving partywill hearabeeptone
whenyou finishtransmitting amessage.Thisavoidssituationswheremes-
sagesareinterruptedbecausetheotherpartyisnotawarethatthetransmis-
sion isnotfinished.Press ortoactivateordeactivatetheRogerBeepp
function.Icon will beshownifactivated.
KeyTone
TheKeyTonefunction,ifenabled,causestheunit tobeepwheneverabut-
ton ispressed.Press ortoactivateordeactivatetheKeyTonefunction.
Icon ‘ ’will beshownifactivated.
APOFunction(AutomaticPower Off)
Thisfunction enablesyourtransceivertoautomaticallyshutitselfoff ifleft
idlefor2hours.Press orkeytoactivateordeactivatetheAPOfunction.
Icon will beshownifactivated.
NOTE:Tore-enablethetransceiverafterautomaticshut-off,simplypress
PWRbutton.
CHARGINGCONTACTS(OPTIONAL)
You candirectlychargeNi-MHrechargeablebatterieswithouttaking bat-
teriesoutfromthebatterycompartmentby using anoptional2-baycradle
charger(soldseparately).You canrechargeup totworadiosatthesame
time.TheLEDon thecradlechargerwill lightgreenwhenthetransceivers
arecharging.Completecharging takesabout14 to16 hours.
Locatedinsidethetransceiver’sbatterycompartmentisacharging switch,
whichenablestherecharging ofbatteries.Whenplacedon thecradle.The
switchmustbesetto‘ON’whenrechargeablebatteriesareusedand re-
chargedusing thecradle.If alkalinebatteriesareused,theswitchshouldbe
setto‘OFF’.
WARNING:Donotputtransceiversintothechargerwhenusing alkaline
batteries.
CAUTION:Thecradlechargerdoesnotautomaticallyswitchoff afterthe
batterieshavebeenfullyrecharged.Assuch,thereisadangerofovercharg-
ing,whichmayshortenthebatteries’lifespanheavily.
