1. Dimensions and mechanical assembly
The SC143-C1 board can be installed directly to the bottom of electrical cabinet, or on a metal
panel with 4 x M4 screws. We recommend using metal 8-12mm spacers, taking care to fix the
screws. On board there are some components for EMI noise suppression thatrequiring careful
mounting on the metal structure, particularly for the two lower screws (on both ends of
connections).
However the SC143-C1 board can also be used in non-metallic structures, connecting the ground
terminal with a cable, high section, if such connection is present.
In addition the board is available, with SC143-C1-B code, in the closed version with a robust
metal/plexiglas case that can be fixed by one or more M4 screws.
The main mechanical dimensions and the positions of the holes, for the open and closed version,
are as follows:

2. CPU overview
OnSC143-C1board are available all electrical connections andsome specific pointsof intervention
and setting. The following figure shows these parts:
A typical connectionto the machine is touse only the 6-pin connectorfor power supply and the
RS485 fieldbus. For programming a Personal Computer must be connected to the Ethernet port,
USB or RS232. The USB port can be used, as an alternative to programming, to handle an auxiliary
disk inserting a USB memory stick. A dedicated connector can also add an additional disk on an SD
memory card.
3. Points of intervention and signalling
For service operations and intervention, there are some points of particular interest to the user as

The reset push button allows the CPU to restartwithout turning off the power. In this case there
will be a momentary loss of communication on all available ports.
The jumper for forcing the STOP state of the PLC program can be inserted either during the
execution of the program both before providing power. In the last case you can block the
automatic execution of any wrong program to allow its removal, for example, via the FTP
connection.
The USB +5V power jumper connect the power supply on the USB port to use the USB memory
stick (Host mode). When using the USB portfor PC programming (Device mode), disconnect the
jumper to avoid conflicts between the power supplied through the cable from the PC and the
power supplied from the CPU.
The signaling leds, as a couple green/yellow, indicating the connection/activity status of the
Ethernetport and the RUN/STOP of the PLC program.
4. Electrical connections
The SC143-C1 power supply requires a 24Vac/dc and a ground wire connecting the terminal block
provided also for the RS485 fieldbus.
Take care to make a good ground connection, either through the terminal, either through the
screws, making sure that there is an extensive contact with any metal structure which is attached
with the M4 screws.
For the RS485 fieldbus connection must be used appropriate cables (shielded and twisted pair)
taking care toconnect the shield to the ground, on the SC143-C1 side, directly on the possible
metallic frame of the cabinet. The RS485 interface, galvanically isolated, also has an additional 0V
wire to be connected to the reference terminal of the expansion interfaces in order to constrain
the references of the respective hardware drivers.

The SC143-C1 board already has the termination resistor on the RS485 port and then must be
connected to one end of the RS485 line. All expansion interfaces are connected to the RS485
network through a linear path of the cable avoiding branches and star connections.
The RS485 signal lines are indicated with 485+ and485- where the polarity refers to the active
state ofline driving (transmission of bit 0). In other systems the signals are indicated by the letters
A and B, and normally A=485-/ B=485+ is the corresponding connection.
Theconnection to the CAN fieldbus is madeusing a9-pole male connectorpin-compliant to this
standard. Even for the CAN interface is already provided a termination resistor on the board.
The Ethernet network connection uses an RJ-45 with the same pinout of a Personal Computer
interface. To connect the CPU directly to a Personal Computer must use a crossover Ethernet cable
(cross cable) so that the transmission signals are crossed with those of reception. If you connect
the CPU to the local network via a router or a switch must use a direct cable as routers and
switches provide internally the crossing.
The connection of the USB port for programming and communication requires a cable with both
ends of the male type A.
NOTE: Toconnect the USB port directly to a PC it is recommended to remove the power jumper to
disconnectthe +5V power supply of the CPU from the USB connector.
