1 ABOUT LEAD REE SOLDER (Pb : Pb free)
Note:
In the in ormation below, Pb, the symbol or lead in the periodic table o elements, will re er to standard solder or solder that
contains lead.
We will use PbF solder when discussing the lead ree solder used in our manu acturing process which is made rom Tin (Sn),
Silver (Ag), and Copper (Cu).
This model, and others like it, manu actured using lead ree solder will have PbF stamped on the PCB. For service and repair
work we suggest using the same type o solder although, with some precautions, standard Pb solder can also be used.
Caution
• • •
• PbF solder has a melting point that is 50°F ~ 70°F (30°C ~ 40°C) higher than Pb solder. Please use a soldering iron with
temperature control and adjust it to 700°F ± 20°F (370°C ± 10°C). In case o using high temperature soldering iron, please
be care ul not to heat too long.
• • •
• PbF solder will tend to splash i it is heated much higher than its melting point, approximately 1100°F (600°C).
• • •
• I you must use Pb solder on a PCB manu actured using PbF solder, remove as much o the original PbF solder as possible
and be sure that any remaining is melted prior to applying the Pb solder.
• • •
• When applying PbF solder to double layered boards, please check the component side or excess which may low onto the
opposite side (See the igure below).
1.1. Suggested Pb Solder
There are several types o PbF solder available commercially. While this product is manu actured using Tin, Silver, and Copper
(Sn+Ag+Cu), you can also use Tin and Copper (Sn+Cu) or Tin, Zinc, and Bismuth (Sn+Zn+Bi). Please check the
manu acturer’s speci ic instructions or the melting points o their products and any precautions or using their product with other
materials.
The ollowing lead ree (PbF) solder wire sizes are recommended or service o this product: 0.3mm, 0.6mm and 1.0mm.

When repairing, the following precautions will help prevent recurring malfunctions.
1. Cover the plastic parts boxes with aluminum oil and ground them.
2. Ground the soldering irons.
3. Use a conductive mat on the worktable.
4. Do not touch IC or LSI pins with bare ingers.

1. Danger o explosion i battery is incorrectly replaced.
2. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manu acturer.
3. Dispose o used batteries according to the manu acture’s Instructions.

4 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1. Battery
4.1.1. Battery Installation
1. Insert the batteries negative ( ) terminal irst.
2. Close the handset cover.
Note:

• Use only rechargeable Ni-MH batteries HHR-4EPT.
4.1.2. Battery Charge
Place the handset on the base unit for about 7 hours before initial use.
When charging, the battery icon is shown as ollows. When the batteries are ully charged, remains on the display.

• It is normal or the handset to eel warm during charging.
• • •
• It takes 7 hours to ully charge the batteries, however, you can use the handset be ore the batteries are ully charged.
• • •
• Clean the charge contacts o the handset and base unit with a so t, dry cloth, otherwise the batteries may not charge
properly. Clean i the unit is exposed to grease, dust or high humidity.
• • •
• When lashes, recharge the handset batteries. will continue to lash until the batteries have been charged or at
least 15 minutes.
• • •
• I the handset is turned o , it will be turned on automatically when it is placed on the base unit.

4.1.3. Battery Life
A ter your Panasonic batteries are ully charged, you can expect the ollowing per ormance:
Ni-MH batteries (700 mAh)

While not in use (standby) 170 hours max.

• Actual battery per ormance depends on a combination o how o ten the handset is in use (talking) and how o ten it is not
in use (standby).

• Battery operating time may be shortened over time depending on usage conditions and ambient temperature.
4.1.4. Battery Replacement
I lashes even a ter the handset batteries have been charged or 7 hours, the batteries must be replaced.

• We recommend the use o Panasonic rechargeable Ni-MH batteries HHR-4EPT. I you install non-rechargeable batteries
and start charging, the batteries may leak electrolyte.
• • •
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
1. Press the notch on the handset cover irmly and slide it in the direction o the arrow.
2. Remove the old batteries positive ( ) terminal irst and install the new ones.

4.3. Connections
4.3.1. Base Unit
When the AC adaptor is connected, a short beep will be heard. I it is not heard, check the connections.

• Use only the AC adaptor PQLV19ALX and telephone line cord supplied with this unit.

• A ter connection, you must charge the batteries to make or answer calls with the handset.

• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
• • •
• The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal or the adaptor to eel warm during use.)

• The AC adaptor should be connected to a vertically oriented or loor-mounted AC outlet. Do not connect the AC adaptor to
a ceiling-mounted AC outlet, as the weight o the adaptor may cause it to become disconnected.
• • •
• The unit will not work during a power ailure. We recommend connecting a standard telephone to the same telephone line
or to the same telephone socket using a telephone double adaptor.
• • •
• This unit is not designed to be used with rotary (pulse dialling) services.
4.3.2. Charger Unit
