1 Safety Precautions
1.1. General Guidelines
1. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
There re speci l components used in this equipment
which re import nt for s fety. These p rts re m rked by
^ in the Schem tic Di gr ms, Circuit Bo rd L yout,
Exploded Views nd Repl cement P rts List. It is essen
ti l th t these critic l p rts should be repl ced with m nu
f cturer's specified p rts to prevent X-RADIATION,
shock, fire, or other h z rds. Do not modify the origin l
design without permission of m nuf cturer.
2. An Isol tion Tr nsformer should lw ys be used during
the servicing of AC Ad ptor whose ch ssis is not isol ted
from the AC power line. Use tr nsformer of dequ te
power r ting s this protects the technici n from cci
dents resulting in person l injury from electric l shocks. It
will lso protect AC Ad ptor from being d m ged by cci
dent l shorting th t m y occur during servicing.
3. When servicing, observe the origin l le d dress. If short
circuit is found, repl ce ll p rts which h ve been over
he ted or d m ged by the short circuit.
4. After servicing, see to it th t ll the protective devices
such s insul tion b rriers, insul tion p pers shields re
properly inst lled.
5. After servicing, m ke the following le k ge current
checks to prevent the customer from being exposed to
shock h z rds.
1.2. Leakage Current Cold Check
1. Unplug the AC cord nd connect jumper between the
two prongs on the plug.
2. Me sure the resist nce v lue, with n ohmmeter,
between the jumpered AC plug nd e ch exposed met l
lic c binet p rt on the equipment such s screwhe ds,
connectors, control sh fts, etc. When the exposed met l
lic p rt h s return p th to the ch ssis, the re ding
should be between 1 MQ nd 5.2 MQ. When the exposed
met l does not h ve return p th to the ch ssis, the
re ding must be infinity.
1.3. Leakage Current Hot Check
(See Figure 1.)
1. Plug the AC cord directly into the AC outlet. Do not use
n isol tion tr nsformer for this check.
2. Connect 1.5 kQ, 10 W resistor, in p r llel with 0.15 |iF
c p citor, between e ch exposed met llic p rt on the set
nd good e rth ground, s shown in Figure 1.
3. Use n AC voltmeter, with 1 kQ/V or more sensitivity, to
me sure the potenti l cross the resistor.
4. Check e ch exposed met llic p rt, nd me sure the volt
ge t e ch point.
5. Reverse the AC plug in the AC outlet nd repe t e ch of
the bove me surements.
6. The potenti l t ny point should not exceed 0.75 V RMS.
A le k ge current tester (Simpson Model 229 or equiv 
lent) m y be used to m ke the hot checks, le k ge cur
rent must not exceed 1/2 mA. In c se me surement is
outside of the limits specified, there is possibility of
shock h z rd, nd the equipment should be rep ired nd
rechecked before it is returned to the customer.

2 Warning
2.1. Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) to Electrostatically
Sensitive (ES) Devices
Some semiconductor (solid st te) devices c n be d m ged e sily by st tic electricity. Such components commonly re c lled Elec
trost tic lly Sensitive (ES) Devices.
Ex mples of typic l ES devices re 1C (integr ted circuits) nd some field-effect tr nsistors nd
semiconductor “chip” components.
The following techniques should be used to help reduce the incidence of component d m ge c used by electrost tic disch rge
(ESD).
1. Immedi tely before h ndling ny semiconductor component or semiconductor-equipped ssembly, dr in off ny ESD on your
body by touching known e rth ground. Altern tively, obt in nd we r commerci lly v il ble disch rging ESD wrist str p,
which should be removed for potenti l shock re sons prior to pplying power to the unit under test.
2. After removing n electric l ssembly equipped with ES devices, pl ce the ssembly on conductive surf ce such s lumi
num foil, to prevent electrost tic ch rge buildup or exposure of the ssembly.
3. Use only grounded-tip soldering iron to solder or unsolder ES devices.
4. Use only n ntist tic solder remov l device. Some solder remov l devices not cl ssified s " ntist tic (ESD protected)" c n
gener te electric l ch rge sufficient to d m ge ES devices.
5. Do not use freon-propelled chemic ls. These c n gener te electric l ch rges sufficient to d m ge ES devices.
6. Do not remove repl cement ES device from its protective p ck ge until immedi tely before you re re dy to inst ll it. (Most
repl cement ES devices re p ck ged with le ds electric lly shorted together by conductive fo m, luminum foil or comp r 
ble conductive m teri l).
7. Immedi tely before removing the protective m teri l from the le ds of repl cement ES device, touch the protective m teri l
to the ch ssis or circuit ssembly into which the device will be inst lled.
CAUTION :
Be sure no power is pplied to the ch ssis or circuit, nd observe ll other s fety prec utions.
8. Minimize bodily motions when h ndling unp ck ged repl cement ES devices. (Otherwise h rmless motion such s the
brushing together of your clothes f bric or the lifting of your foot from c rpeted floor c n gener te st tic electricity (ESD) suf
ficient to d m ge n ES device).

To prevent electric shock, do not remove the cover. No user

personnel.
2.2.2. Caution for AC Mains Lead
For your s fety, ple se re d the following text c refully.
This ppli nce is supplied with moulded three-pin m ins plug
for your s fety nd convenience.
A 5- mpere fuse is fitted in this plug.
Should the fuse need to be repl ced ple se ensure th t the
repl cement fuse h s r ting of 5 mperes nd it is pproved
by ASTA or BSI to BS1362
Check for the ASTA m rk or the BSI m rk on the body of the
fuse.

If the plug cont ins remov ble fuse cover you must ensure
th t it is refitted when the fuse is repl ced.
If you lose the fuse cover, the plug must not be used until
repl cement cover is obt ined.
A repl cement fuse cover c n be purch sed from your loc l
P n sonic De ler.
If the fitted moulded plug is unsuit ble for the socket outlet in
your home then the fuse should be removed nd the plug cut
off nd disposed of s fety.
There is d nger of severe electric l shock if the cut off plug is
inserted into ny 13- mpere socket.
If new plug is to be fitted ple se observe the wiring code s
shown below.
If in ny doubt, ple se consult qu lified electrici n.
2.2.2.1. Important
The wires in this m ins le d re coloured in ccord nce with
the following code:

As the colours of the wires in the m ins le d of this ppli nce
m y not correspond with the coloured m rkings identifying the
termin ls in your plug, proceed s follows:
The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the ter
min l in the plug which is m rked with the letter N or coloured
BLACK.
The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the
termin l in the plug which is m rked with the letter L or coloured
RED.
Under no circumst nces should either of these wires be con
nected to the e rth termin l of the three pin plug, m rked with
the letter E or the E rth Symbol.

2.4. Service Caution Based On Legal Restrictions

2.4.1. General Description About Lead Free Solder (PbF)
The le d free solder h s been used in the mounting process of ll electric l components on the printed circuit bo rds used for this
equipment in considering the glob lly environment l conserv tion.
The norm l solder is the lloy of tin (Sn) nd le d (Pb). On the other h nd, the le d free solder is the lloy m inly consists of tin
(Sn), silver (Ag) nd Copper (Cu), nd the melting point of the le d free solder is higher pprox.30°C (86°F) more th n th t of the
norm l solder.
Distinction of P.C.B. Le d Free Solder being used
The letter of “PbF” is printed either foil side or components side P b F
on the P.C.B. using the lead free solder.(See right figure)
Service c ution for rep ir work using Le d Free Solder (PbF)
• The le d free solder h s to be used when rep iring the equipment for which the le d free solder is used.
(Definition: The letter of “PbF” is printed on the P.C.B. using the le d free solder.)
• To put le d free solder, it should be well molten nd mixed with the origin l le d free solder.
• Remove the rem ining le d free solder on the PC.B. cle nly for soldering of the new IC.
• Since the melting point of the le d free solder is higher th n th t of the norm l le d solder, it t kes the longer time to melt the
le d free solder.
• Use the soldering iron (more th n 70W) equipped with the temper ture control fter setting the temper ture t 350±30°C
(662±86°F).
Recommended Le d Free Solder (Service P rts Route.)

2.5. Static Electricity Protection Measures
• The l ser diode in the tr verse unit (optic l pick-up) m y bre k down due to potenti l difference c used by st tic electricity of
clothes or hum n body.
So, be c reful of electrost tic bre kdown during rep ir of the tr verse unit (optic l pick-up).
2. . Ground for electrostatic breakdown prevention
• As for p rts th t use optic l pick-up (l ser diode), the optic l pick-up is destroyed by the st tic electricity of the working environ
ment.
Rep ir in the working environment th t is grounded.
2. .1. Work table grounding
• Put conductive m teri l (sheet) or steel sheet on the re where the tr verse unit (optic l pick-up) is pl ced, nd ground the
sheet.
2. .2. Human body grounding
• Use the nti-st tic wrist str p to disch rge the st tic electricity from your body.
2. .3. When exchange the BDP/Digital P.C.B. Module
• Do not remove the FFC while repl cing the BDP/Digit l P.C.B.Modile.
Keep the BDP Drive nd the Digit l P.C.B. connecting with it.
After rep ired, keep the BDP/Digit l Module connected during the process of return which is repl ced.
The FFC should be returned together nd not removed.
2. .4. When exchange the BDP Drive
• Before remove the ESD prevention b g, m ke sure to use the nti-st tic wrist str p to disch rge the st tic electricity when
repl ce the BDP Drive.
Note:
The ESD prevention b g is used to repl ce the origin l short-circuit point.
It c n be removed while pl cing the BDP Drive.

Operating Instructions
.1. Taking out the Disc from BD Drive Unit when the Disc cannot be ejected
by OPEN/CLOSE button

1. Turn the unit off, then press nd hold [OK], [Yellow] nd [Blue] buttons on the remote control simult neously for 5 seconds.
- “00 RET” is displ yed on the unit's FL displ y.
2. Repe tedly press the right cursor button on the remote Control or Power button on the unit until “06 FTO” is displ yed on the
unit's FL displ y.
3. Press [OK] button on the remote control or [OPEN/CLOSE] button on the unit.

Press [POWER] button on the unit for over 4 seconds to turn off the power forcibly, nd step 1 to 3 bove.
