Socket in a Car
The use of the Car Battety Charger (VW-KBDZE;
optional) makesit possible to supply power to the Movie
Camera in a car for recordingandplayback.
It aiso allows charging the Movie Camera's Battery.
.After use, be sureto disconnectthe Car Battery
Chargerfromthe cigarettelighter socket.
Ifthe Car Battery Charger is aiready connectedto the
cigarette lighter socket when you star! the engine. the
fuse in the Car Battery Chargersplug may blow out.
*Also read the operating instructions of the Car Battery
Charger.

Supplying Power with the Battery
Beforeuse.fully charge the Battery.

Placethe Battery onthe AC Adaptor as
shown above and slide ithorizontally until
itstops.
Ifthe DC Input Lead is connected to theAC Adaptor.
disconnect it as charging is not possibleothewise.
2 Securely connect the AC Mains Leadto the
AC Adaptor and anAC Mains Socket.
*The [POWER]Lamp O lights and then the
[CHARGE] Lamp
@ flashes for a few seconds
before it remains lit and charging starts.
*If the [CHARGE] Lamp does not flash even though
the Banery is atiached, remove the Battery and
then re-attach it.
*When the [CHARGE] Lamp goes out,charging is
finished.
3 Rernovethe Battery by sliding it inthe
opposite directionof Step
1 above.
*Also disconnect the AC Mains Lead.
4 Slide the Finder backwardto itsfully
extended position andthen tilt itupward.
5 lnsert the Batteryintothe Battery Holder
onthe MovieCarnera and slide it
downward until
it lockswith a click.
Removingthe Battery from theMovieCamera
While pressing the [BATTERY EJECT] Button, slide the
Battery upward to remove it.
*Be carefulnot to drop the Battery by accident.
Beforeremoving the Battery, set the
[OFFION] Switch
to
[OFF].

The limes listed above for your information indicate the
duration of recording periormed at an ambient
temperature of 20 C and 6040 relativehumidity.The
charging time may be longer when you charge the
Batteryat higher or lower temperature.
*During use andcharging, the Batterybecomes warm.
The Movie Camera, too. becomes warm during use.
*When you repeatedlystop and restait recording,the
recordingtime per Battery is shotter than listed above.

Ifthe temperature of the Batteryisextremely low or
extremely high. the [CHARGE] Lamp on the AC Adaptor

some maifunctionhas occurred inthe Battery or the AC
Adaptor

Inserting the Cassette
1 Siide the [C EJECT] Lever upwardto
open the Cassette Compartment.
2 lnserithecassettewith its window in
position Q.
3 Ciosethe Cassette Compariment and
press the
[A LOCK] Buttontolockthe
Cassette Compartment.
*If the AC Adaptor or Batteryis used to supply power, it
is possible to insert or eject the cassette without turning
on the Movie Camera.
*When openingor closingthe CassetteCompartment,
push downthe Grip Belt so that it does not obstructthe
opening and closing of the Cassette Compartment.
Otherwisethe Grip Belt rnay prevent the Cassene
Compartmentfrom openingcompletely, or it may get
caught under the CassetteCornpartmentCover and
prevent it fromclosing properly.
*When insertingthe cassette, makesure it taces in the
right direction and then push it in until it stops.
eWhenyou insert a cassene ontowhichyou have
recorded before, use the CameraSearchFunction
(+ 56) to searchfor the position from which you want to
continue recording.
*When you inserta new cassene, rewindthe tape to the
beginning beforestartingto record.

Using the Finder
Before using the Finder. adjust it to your eyesight so that
the indications
in the Finder are clear and easy to read.

Set the [OFFION] Switch to [ON].
2 Slide the Finder backward completely and
then tilt it upward.
The angle of the Findercan be adjusted upward
However be sure to slide the Finder backwardunlll
it stops before turning il upward

Adjust by sliding the EyepieceCorrector
Knob

Note:
DOnot leave the Finder exposedto direct sunlight.as its
magnifying glass could bundlethe light beams and
seriouslyheat-damage the Flnder.
Using the LCD Monitor
It is also possible to recordwhile viewing the picture on
the opened
LCD Monitor.
Set the [OFFION] Switch to [ON].

Adjusting the Angle

Adjust the angle of the LCD Monitor
according tothe recordingangle.
*The LCD blonitor rotates upwarda maximum of
180 O and downward by a maximum of 90 @
from its normal vertical position. Trying to forcefully
rotateit beyondthis range could seriouslydarnage
the Mowe Camera.
Closing the LCD Monitor
Push the LCD klonitor chose uniil the IPUSH OPEN]
Butlon locks with a click

Handling the Lens Cap
Beforeyou start recording. rernove the Lens Cap
1 You can hookthe removed Lens Cap onto
the Grip Belt.
When not actually recording.always attachthe Lens
Cap to the Lensto protect it.
Note:
Do not leavethe Lens exposed to direct sunlight, as $t
could bundle the light beams and seriously heat-damage
the CCD-Sensor.
Adjusting the Grip Belt
You can adjust the Grip Belt to the size of your hand
2 Openthe Grip Belt Cover and adjust the
lengthof the Grip Belt.
Attaching the Shoulder Strap
Beforeyou go recording outside. we recornmendthat you
anach the Shoulder Strap to prevent the MovieCamera
fromdropping accidentally.

Camera.
4 Foldthe end of the Shoulder Strap back,
pull
it first throughthe loop andthen the
Shoulder Strap LengthAdjuster.

Recording Yourself
(Recordingwith the LCD Monitor Facing Forward)
This makes it possibleto record yourself while viewing
the picture on the LCD Monitor or to show the personsin
frontof the MovieCamera the picture being recorded.

Open the LCD Monitor and turn it so that it
facesforward (lens side).
.Opening the LCD Monitor automaticailyturns off
the Finder. However. when you turn the LCD
Monitor forward, the picture also appears ,n the
Finder.
*This lets you alm the MovieCamera and view the
picture inthe Finder. while the persons in front of
the Movie Carnera can check the picture on the
LCD Monitor during recording.
Mirror Modefor the Pictureon the LCD Monitor
You are usedto looking at yourself in the mirror.
Therefore. when recordingyourself with the LCD Monitor
facing forward. the picture (asit isbeing recorded) might
look unusuai and distracting. Ifyou prefer to see younelf
on the LCD Monitor inthe same way as you see yourself
in a mirror. ie.with the sides reversed. set
[SELFSHOOT] on the [DISPLAY SETUP] Sub-Menuto
[MIRROR]. However.the picture will still be recordedin
the normal, non-reversedway.
This mirror modefor the picture on the LCD Monitor
works only during recording and inthe Recording Pause
Mode with the LCD Monitorfacingforward. Also. itis
compietely different from the Mirror Mode of the Digital
Effects 1 (+ 72).
