1.1. General Guidelines
1. IMPORTANTSAFETYNOTICE
Therearespecial components usedinthisequipmentwhichare
importantforsafety. These parts aremarkedbyinthe
SchematicDiagrams, CircuitBoardLayout, ExplodedViewsand
ReplacementParts List. Itisessential that these critical parts
shouldbereplacedwithmanufacturer’sspecifiedparts toprevent
shock, fire, orotherhazards. Donotmodifytheoriginal design
withoutpermission ofmanufacturer.
2. AnIsolation Transformershouldalwaysbeusedduring the
servicing ofACAdaptorwhose chassisisnotisolatedfromtheAC
powerline. Use atransformerofadequate powerrating as this
protects thetechnicianfromaccidents resulting inpersonal injury
fromelectrical shocks. Itwill alsoprotect ACAdaptorfrombeing
damagedbyaccidental shorting that mayoccurduring servicing.
3. Whenservicing, observetheoriginal leaddress. Ifashortcircuit
isfound, replace all parts whichhavebeenoverheatedor
damagedbytheshortcircuit.
4. Afterservicing, see toitthat all theprotectivedevices suchas
insulation barriers, insulation papersshieldsareproperlyinstalled.
5. Afterservicing, make thefollowing leakagecurrentchecks to
preventthecustomerfrombeing exposedtoshock hazards.
2. Warning
2.1. Prevention ofElectroStaticDischarge(ESD)toElectrostatically
Sensitive(ES)Devices
Somesemiconductor (solidstate)devices canbedamagedeasilybystaticelectricity. Such
componentscommonlyarecalledElectrostaticallySensitive (ES)Devices. Examples oftypical
ES devices areintegratedcircuitsand somefield-effecttransistorsand semiconductor "chip"

components. Thefollowing techniques shouldbeusedtohelpreduce theincidence of
componentdamagecausedbyelectro staticdischarge(ESD).
1. Immediatelybeforehandling anysemiconductorcomponentor
semiconductor-equippedassembly, drainoff anyESDon your
bodybytouching aknownearthground. Alternatively, obtainand
wearacommerciallyavailabledischarging ESDwrist strap, which
shouldberemovedforpotential shock reasonspriortoapplying
powertotheunitundertest.
2. Afterremoving anelectrical assemblyequippedwithES devices,
place theassemblyon aconductivesurface suchas aluminum
foil, topreventelectrostaticchargebuildup orexposureofthe
assembly.
3. Use onlyagrounded-tipsoldering iron tosolderorunsolderES
devices.
4. Use onlyanantistaticsolderremoval device. Somesolderremoval
devices notclassifiedas "antistatic(ESDprotected)"cangenerate
electrical chargesufficienttodamageES devices.
5. Donotuse freon-propelledchemicals. These cangenerate
electrical charges sufficienttodamageES devices.
6. DonotremoveareplacementES device fromits protective
packageuntil immediatelybeforeyou arereadytoinstall it. (Most
replacementES devices arepackagedwithleadselectrically
shortedtogetherbyconductivefoam, aluminumfoil orcomparable
conductivematerial).
7. Immediatelybeforeremoving theprotectivematerial fromthe
leadsofareplacementES device, touchtheprotectivematerial to
thechassisorcircuitassemblyintowhichthedevice will be
installed.
CAUTION:
Besureno powerisappliedtothechassisorcircuit, and observe
all othersafetyprecautions.
8. Minimizebodilymotionswhenhandling unpackagedreplacement
ES devices. (Otherwise harmless motion suchas thebrushing
togetherofyourclothes fabricorthelifting ofyourfootfroma
carpetedfloorcangenerate staticelectricity(ESD)sufficientto

damageanES device).

A5-amperefuse isfittedinthisplug.
Shouldthefuse needtobereplacedplease ensurethatthereplacementfuse has arating of5
amperes and itisapprovedbyASTAor BSItoBS1362.
Check for theASRAmarkor theBSImarkon thebodyofthefuse.
Iftheplug containsaremovablefuse coveryou mustensurethatitisrefittedwhenthefuse is
replaced.
Ifyou lose thefuse cover, theplug mustnotbeuseduntil areplacementcoverisobtained.
Areplacementfuse covercanbepurchasedfrom your local PanasonicDealer.
Ifthefittedmouldedplug isunsuitablefor thesocketoutletinyour homethenthefuse shouldbe
removedand theplug cutoff and disposedofsafety.
Thereisadangerofsevereelectrical shock ifthecutoff plug isinsertedintoany13-ampere
socket.
Ifanewplug istobefittedplease observe thewiring codeas shownbelow.
Ifinanydoubt, please consultaqualifiedelectrician.

Thewires inthismainsleadarecolouredinaccordance withthefollowing code:
Asthecoloursofthewires inthemainsleadofthisappliance may notcorrespond withthe
colouredmarkingsidentifying theterminalsinyour plug, proceedas follows:
ThewirewhichiscolouredBLUE mustbeconnectedtotheterminal intheplug whichismarked
withtheletterNor colouredBLACK.
ThewirewhichiscolouredBROWNmustbeconnectedtotheterminal intheplug whichis
markedwiththeletterLor colouredRED.
Underno circumstances shouldeitherofthese wires beconnectedtotheearthterminal ofthe
three pinplug, markedwiththeletterE or theEarthSymbol.

Thelithium battery(ML-621S/F9D) isnotsuppliedas aservice partand mustbereplacedas part
oftheCassetteCoverUnit. (Referto"Disassembly and Assembly Instructions.")

Itmust neverbesubjectedtoexcessiveheat ordischarge.
Itmust thereforeonlybefittedinequipmentdesignedspecifically

forits use.
Replacementbatteries must beofthesametypeand manufacture.
Theymust befittedinthesamemannerand location as theoriginal
battery, withthecorrect polaritycontacts observed.
Donotattempttore-chargetheoldbatteryorre-use itforanyother
purpose.
Itshouldbedisposedofinwaste products destinedforburial rather
thanincineration.

3.2. AboutLeadFree Solder(PbF)
Distinction ofPbF PCB:
PCBs(manufactured)using leadfree solderwill have aPbF stampon thePCB.
Caution:
-Pbfree solderhas ahighermelting pointthanstandardsolder;
Typicallythemelting pointis50-70°F(30-40°C)higher.
Please use ahigh temperaturesoldering iron. Incase ofthe
soldering iron withtemperaturecontrol, please set itto700±20°F
(370±10°C).
-Pbfree solderwill tend tosplashwhenheatedtoo high (about
1100°F/600°C).

Whensoldering or unsoldering, please completelyremove all ofthesolderon thepinsor solder
area, and besuretoheatthesoldering pointswiththePbfree solderuntil itmeltsenough.
